1. 1

   הֹדוּO give thanksלַיהֹוָהto the LORDכִּי־טוֹבfor He is goodכִּיbecauseלְעוֹלָםforeverחַסְדּוֹ׃His mercy

   O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

2. 2

   יֹאמְרוּlet say soגְּאוּלֵיthe redeemed ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֲשֶׁרwhichגְּאָלָםHe has redeemedמִיַּד־צָר׃from the hand of the enemy

   Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;

   וּמֵאֲרָצוֹתand out of the landsקִבְּצָםHe gathered themמִמִּזְרָחfrom eastוּמִמַּעֲרָבand from westמִצָּפוֹןfrom the northוּמִיָּם׃and from the sea

   And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.

   תָּעוּthey wanderedבַמִּדְבָּרin the wildernessבִּישִׁימוֹןin a desertדָּרֶךְwayעִירa city ofמוֹשָׁבhabitationלֹאnotמָצָאוּ׃did they find

   They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.

   רְעֵבִיםhungryגַּם־צְמֵאִיםalso thirstyנַפְשָׁםtheir soulבָּהֶםin themתִּתְעַטָּף׃fainted

   Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.

6. 6

   וַיִּצְעֲקוּthen they criedאֶל־יְהֹוָהto the LORDבַּצַּרin their troubleלָהֶםof theirsמִמְּצוּקוֹתֵיהֶםout of their distressesיַצִּילֵם׃He delivered them

   Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.

7. 7

   וַיַּדְרִיכֵםand He led them forthבְּדֶרֶךְin the wayיְשָׁרָהstraightלָלֶכֶתto goאֶל־עִירto a city ofמוֹשָׁב׃habitation

   And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.

8. 8

   יוֹדוּO that men would praiseלַיהֹוָהto the LORDחַסְדּוֹfor His mercyוְנִפְלְאוֹתָיוand for His wonderful worksלִבְנֵיto the children ofאָדָם׃man

   Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

9. 9

   כִּי־הִשְׂבִּיעַfor He satisfiesנֶפֶשׁthe soulשֹׁקֵקָהlongingוְנֶפֶשׁand the soulרְעֵבָהhungryמִלֵּא־טוֹב׃He fills with goodness

   For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.

10. 10

    יֹשְׁבֵיsuch as sit inחֹשֶׁךְdarknessוְצַלְמָוֶתand in the shadow of deathאֲסִירֵיbeing bound inעֳנִיafflictionוּבַרְזֶל׃and iron

    Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;

11. 11

    כִּי־הִמְרוּbecause they rebelled againstאִמְרֵי־אֵלthe words of Godוַעֲצַתand the counsel ofעֶלְיוֹןthe Most Highנָאָצוּ׃they spurned

    Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:

12. 12

    וַיַּכְנַעtherefore He brought downבֶּעָמָלwith laborלִבָּםtheir heartכָּשְׁלוּthey fell downוְאֵיןand there was noneעֹזֵר׃to help

    Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.

13. 13

    וַיִּזְעֲקוּthen they criedאֶל־יְהֹוָהto the LORDבַּצַּרin their troubleלָהֶםof theirsמִמְּצֻקוֹתֵיהֶםout of their distressesיוֹשִׁיעֵם׃He saved them

    Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.

14. 14

    יוֹצִיאֵםHe brought them outמֵחֹשֶׁךְout of darknessוְצַלְמָוֶתand the shadow of deathוּמוֹסְרוֹתֵיהֶםand their fettersיְנַתֵּק׃He broke

    He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.

15. 15

    יוֹדוּO that men would praiseלַיהֹוָהto the LORDחַסְדּוֹfor His mercyוְנִפְלְאוֹתָיוand for His wonderful worksלִבְנֵיto the children ofאָדָם׃man

    Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

16. 16

    כִּי־שִׁבַּרfor He has brokenדַּלְתוֹתthe gates ofנְחֹשֶׁתbrassוּבְרִיחֵיand the bars ofבַרְזֶלironגִּדֵּעַ׃He cut in sunder

    For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.

17. 17

    אֱוִלִיםfoolsמִדֶּרֶךְbecause of the way ofפִּשְׁעָםtheir transgressionוּמֵעֲוֺנֹתֵיהֶםand because of their iniquitiesיִתְעַנּוּ׃are afflicted

    Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.

18. 18

    כׇּל־אֹכֶלall manner of foodתְּתַעֵבabhorsנַפְשָׁםtheir soulוַיַּגִּיעוּand they draw nearעַד־שַׁעֲרֵיto the gates ofמָוֶת׃death

    Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.

19. 19

    וַיִּזְעֲקוּthen they criedאֶל־יְהֹוָהto the LORDבַּצַּרin their troubleלָהֶםof theirsמִמְּצֻקוֹתֵיהֶםout of their distressesיוֹשִׁיעֵם׃He saved them

    Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.

20. 20

    יִשְׁלַחHe sentדְּבָרוֹHis wordוְיִרְפָּאֵםand healed themוִימַלֵּטand delivered themמִשְּׁחִיתוֹתָם׃from their destructions

    He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

21. 21

    יוֹדוּO that men would praiseלַיהֹוָהto the LORDחַסְדּוֹfor His mercyוְנִפְלְאוֹתָיוand for His wonderful worksלִבְנֵיto the children ofאָדָם׃man

    Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

22. 22

    וְיִזְבְּחוּand let them sacrificeזִבְחֵיthe sacrifices ofתוֹדָהthanksgivingוִיסַפְּרוּand declareמַעֲשָׂיוHis worksבְּרִנָּה׃with singing

    And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.

23. 23

    יוֹרְדֵיthose who go down toהַיָּםthe seaבׇּאֳנִיּוֹתin the shipsעֹשֵׂיwho doמְלָאכָהbusinessבְּמַיִםin the watersרַבִּים׃many

    They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;

24. 24

    הֵמָּהtheyרָאוּthese seeמַעֲשֵׂיthe works ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDוְנִפְלְאוֹתָיוand His wondersבִּמְצוּלָה׃in the deep

    These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.

25. 25

    וַיֹּאמֶרfor He commandsוַיַּעֲמֵדand raisesרוּחַthe windסְעָרָהstormyוַתְּרוֹמֵםwhich lifts upגַּלָּיו׃its waves

    For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.

26. 26

    יַעֲלוּthey mount up toשָׁמַיִםthe heavenיֵרְדוּthey go down again toתְהוֹמוֹתthe deepsנַפְשָׁםtheir soulבְּרָעָהbecause of troubleתִתְמוֹגָג׃melts away

    They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.

27. 27

    יָחוֹגּוּthey reel to and froוְיָנוּעוּand staggerכַּשִּׁכּוֹרlike a drunken manוְכׇל־חׇכְמָתָםand all their skillתִּתְבַּלָּע׃is swallowed up

    They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end.

28. 28

    וַיִּצְעֲקוּthen they cryאֶל־יְהֹוָהto the LORDבַּצַּרin their troubleלָהֶםof theirsוּמִמְּצוּקֹתֵיהֶםand out of their distressesיוֹצִיאֵם׃He brings them out

    Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.

29. 29

    יָקֵםHe makesסְעָרָהthe stormלִדְמָמָהa calmוַיֶּחֱשׁוּso that are stillגַּלֵּיהֶם׃its waves

    He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.

30. 30

    וַיִּשְׂמְחוּthen are they gladכִי־יִשְׁתֹּקוּbecause they are quietוַיַּנְחֵםso He brings themאֶל־מְחוֹזto the haven ofחֶפְצָם׃their desire

    Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.

31. 31

    יוֹדוּO that men would praiseלַיהֹוָהto the LORDחַסְדּוֹfor His mercyוְנִפְלְאוֹתָיוand for His wonderful worksלִבְנֵיto the children ofאָדָם׃man

    Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

32. 32

    וִירוֹמְמוּהוּlet them exalt Him alsoבִּקְהַל־עָםin the congregation of the peopleוּבְמוֹשַׁבand in the assembly ofזְקֵנִיםthe eldersיְהַלְלוּהוּ׃praise Him

    Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.

33. 33

    יָשֵׂםHe turnsנְהָרוֹתriversלְמִדְבָּרinto a wildernessוּמֹצָאֵיand the water springsמַיִםof waterלְצִמָּאוֹן׃into thirsty ground

    He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;

34. 34

    אֶרֶץa land ofפְּרִיfruitלִמְלֵחָהinto a salt wasteמֵרָעַתfor the wickedness ofיוֹשְׁבֵיthose who dwellבָהּ׃therein

    A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.

35. 35

    יָשֵׂםHe turnsמִדְבָּרa wildernessלַאֲגַם־מַיִםinto a pool of waterוְאֶרֶץand a land ofצִיָּהdroughtלְמֹצָאֵיinto water springsמָיִם׃of water

    He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.

36. 36

    וַיּוֹשֶׁבand there He makes to dwellשָׁםthereרְעֵבִיםthe hungryוַיְכוֹנְנוּand they establishעִירa city forמוֹשָׁב׃habitation

    And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation;

37. 37

    וַיִּזְרְעוּand sowשָׂדוֹתfieldsוַיִּטְּעוּand plantכְרָמִיםvineyardsוַיַּעֲשׂוּwhich yieldפְּרִיa fruitfulתְבוּאָה׃increase

    And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.

38. 38

    וַיְבָרְכֵםHe blesses them alsoוַיִּרְבּוּso that they are multipliedמְאֹדgreatlyוּבְהֶמְתָּםand their cattleלֹאnotיַמְעִיט׃does He diminish

    He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.

39. 39

    וַיִּמְעֲטוּagain they are diminishedוַיָּשֹׁחוּand brought lowמֵעֹצֶרthrough oppressionרָעָהafflictionוְיָגוֹן׃and sorrow

    Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.

40. 40

    שֹׁפֵךְHe poursבּוּזcontemptעַל־נְדִיבִיםupon princesוַיַּתְעֵםand causes them to wanderבְּתֹהוּin the wasteלֹא־דָרֶךְ׃where there is no way

    He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.

41. 41

    וַיְשַׂגֵּבyet He sets on highאֶבְיוֹןthe needyמֵעוֹנִיfrom afflictionוַיָּשֶׂםand makes himכַּצֹּאןlike a flockמִשְׁפָּחוֹת׃families

    Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, and maketh him families like a flock.

42. 42

    יִרְאוּshall see itיְשָׁרִיםthe uprightוְיִשְׂמָחוּand rejoiceוְכׇל־עַוְלָהand all iniquityקָפְצָהshall stopפִּיהָ׃her mouth

    The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.

43. 43

    מִי־חָכָםwhoever is wiseוְיִשְׁמׇר־אֵלֶּהand will observe these thingsוְיִתְבּוֹנְנוּthey shall understandחַסְדֵיthe mercies ofיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

    Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.
