חׇכְמוֹתwisdomבָּנְתָהshe has builtבֵיתָהּher houseחָצְבָהshe has hewnעַמּוּדֶיהָher pillarsשִׁבְעָה׃seven
Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:
2
טָבְחָהshe has slaughteredטִבְחָהּher slaughteringמָסְכָהshe has mixedיֵינָהּher wineאַףmoreoverעָרְכָהshe has arrangedשֻׁלְחָנָהּ׃her table
She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.

שָׁלְחָהshe sentנַעֲרֹתֶיהָher maidsתִקְרָאshe criesעַל־גַּפֵּיupon the elevations ofמְרֹמֵיthe heights ofקָרֶת׃the town
She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,

מִי־פֶתִיwhoso is simpleיָסֻרhe turned asideהֵנָּהhitherחֲסַר־לֵבlacking senseאָמְרָהsaidלּוֹ׃to him
Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

לְכוּgoלַחֲמוּeatבְלַחֲמִיin my foodוּשְׁתוּand drinkבְּיַיִןin the wineמָסָכְתִּי׃I have mixed
Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

עִזְבוּforsakeפְתָאיִםthe foolishוִחְיוּand liveוְאִשְׁרוּand goבְּדֶרֶךְby the way ofבִּינָה׃understanding
Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

יֹסֵרone who admonishesלֵץscornerלֹקֵחַis takingלוֹto himקָלוֹןshameוּמוֹכִיחַand he who rebukesלְרָשָׁעwickedמוּמוֹ׃his blot
He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.

אַל־תּוֹכַחdo not reproveלֵץscornerפֶּן־יִשְׂנָאֶךָּlest he should hate youהוֹכַחreproveלְחָכָםa wise personוְיֶאֱהָבֶךָּ׃and he will love you
Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

תֵּןgive instructionלְחָכָםa wise personוְיֶחְכַּם־עוֹדand he will be yet wiserהוֹדַעgive instructionלְצַדִּיקto a righteous personוְיוֹסֶףand let him increaseלֶקַח׃in learning
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

תְּחִלַּתbeginning ofחׇכְמָהwisdomיִרְאַתthe fear ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDוְדַעַתand knowledgeקְדֹשִׁיםholyבִּינָה׃understanding
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

כִּי־בִיfor by meיִרְבּוּthey may increaseיָמֶיךָyour daysוְיוֹסִיפוּso they may addלְּךָto youשְׁנוֹתthe years ofחַיִּים׃life
For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
12
אִם־חָכַמְתָּif you are wiseחָכַמְתָּyou are wiseלָּךְto youוְלַצְתָּand if you scornלְבַדְּךָyou aloneתִשָּׂא׃shall bear it
If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

אֵשֶׁתa woman ofכְּסִילוּתfollyהֹמִיָּהis boisterousפְּתַיּוּתshe is simpleוּבַל־יָדְעָהand not she had knownמָּה׃nothing
A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.
14
וְיָשְׁבָהand she will dwellלְפֶתַחfor the entrance ofבֵּיתָהּher houseעַל־כִּסֵּאupon throneמְרֹמֵיthe heights ofקָרֶת׃the town
For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,

לִקְרֹאto callלְעֹבְרֵי־דָרֶךְto those who pass by the wayהַמְיַשְּׁרִיםthose who make straightאֹרְחוֹתָם׃their paths
To call passengers who go right on their ways:

מִי־פֶתִיwhoso is simpleיָסֻרhe turned asideהֵנָּהhitherוַחֲסַר־לֵבand he who lacks senseוְאָמְרָהand she will sayלּוֹ׃to him
Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

מַיִם־גְּנוּבִיםwater stolenיִמְתָּקוּthey are sweetוְלֶחֶםand breadסְתָרִיםsecret placesיִנְעָם׃it will be pleasant
Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
18
וְלֹא־יָדַעand not he knewכִּי־רְפָאִיםthat the deadשָׁםthereבְּעִמְקֵיin the depths ofשְׁאוֹלSheolקְרֻאֶיהָ׃her invited ones
But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.
