   הֲלֹא־חׇכְמָהis it not wisdomתִקְרָאdoes she cryוּתְבוּנָהand understandingתִּתֵּןdoes she put forthקוֹלָהּ׃her voice

   Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

2. 2

   בְּרֹאשׁ־מְרֹמִיםon the top of high placesעֲלֵי־דָרֶךְon a pathבֵּיתthe house ofנְתִיבוֹתpathsנִצָּבָה׃she stands

   She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.

   לְיַד־שְׁעָרִיםbeside the gatesלְפִי־קָרֶתaccording to the townמְבוֹאthe entrance ofפְתָחִיםthe doorwaysתָּרֹנָּה׃she cries aloud

   She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.

   אֲלֵיכֶםunto youאִישִׁיםO menאֶקְרָאI callוְקוֹלִיand my voiceאֶל־בְּנֵיunto the sons ofאָדָם׃man

   Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.

   הָבִינוּunderstandפְתָאיִםO simple onesעׇרְמָהprudenceוּכְסִילִיםand foolsהָבִינוּunderstandלֵב׃heart

   O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

6. 6

   שִׁמְעוּhearכִּי־נְגִידִיםfor excellent thingsאֲדַבֵּרI speakוּמִפְתַּחand the utterance ofשְׂפָתַיmy lipsמֵישָׁרִים׃right things

   Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.

   כִּי־אֱמֶתbecause truthיֶהְגֶּהit will utterחִכִּיmy palateוְתוֹעֲבַתand an abomination ofשְׂפָתַיmy lipsרֶשַׁע׃wickedness

   For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

   בְּצֶדֶקwith righteousnessכׇּל־אִמְרֵי־פִיall the words of my mouthאֵיןthere is noבָּהֶםin themנִפְתָּלis a twisted thingוְעִקֵּשׁ׃and perverse

   All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.

   כֻּלָּםall of themנְכֹחִיםare rightלַמֵּבִיןto the discerning personוִישָׁרִיםand uprightלְמֹצְאֵיto those who findדָעַת׃knowledge

   They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.

10. 10

    קְחוּ־מוּסָרִיreceive my instructionוְאַל־כָּסֶףand not silverוְדַעַתand knowledgeמֵחָרוּץmore than goldנִבְחָר׃choice

    Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.

11. 11

    כִּי־טוֹבָהbecause goodחׇכְמָהwisdomמִפְּנִינִיםis more than pearlsוְכׇל־חֲפָצִיםand all precious thingsלֹאnotיִשְׁווּ־בָהּ׃they compare in her

    For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

    אֲנִי־חׇכְמָהI wisdomשָׁכַנְתִּיI have dweltעׇרְמָהprudenceוְדַעַתand knowledgeמְזִמּוֹתdiscretionאֶמְצָא׃I might find

    I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.

13. 13

    יִרְאַתthe fear ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDשְׂנֹאת־רָעis to hate evilגֵּאָהprideוְגָאוֹןand arroganceוְדֶרֶךְand the way ofרָעevilוּפִיand the mouth ofתַהְפֻּכוֹתperversitiesשָׂנֵאתִי׃I hate

    The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

14. 14

    לִי־עֵצָהto me counselוְתוּשִׁיָּהand sound wisdomאֲנִיIבִינָהunderstandingלִיto meגְבוּרָה׃strength

    Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.

15. 15

    בִּיby meמְלָכִיםkingsיִמְלֹכוּthey reignוְרֹזְנִיםand princesיְחֹקְקוּthey enactצֶדֶק׃righteousness

    By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.

16. 16

    בִּיby meשָׂרִיםprincesיָשֹׂרוּthey ruleוּנְדִיבִיםand noblesכׇּל־שֹׁפְטֵיall judges ofצֶדֶק׃righteousness

    By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.

17. 17

    אֲנִיI(אהביה)[אֹהֲבַי]those who love meאֵהָבI loveוּמְשַׁחֲרַיand those who earnestly seek meיִמְצָאֻנְנִי׃they will find me

    I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

18. 18

    עֹשֶׁר־וְכָבוֹדriches and gloryאִתִּיwith meהוֹןwealthעָתֵקdurableוּצְדָקָה׃and righteousness

    Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.

19. 19

    טוֹבgoodפִּרְיִיmy fruitמֵחָרוּץmore than goldוּמִפָּזand more than pure goldוּתְבוּאָתִיand my revenueמִכֶּסֶףthan silverנִבְחָר׃choice

    My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.

20. 20

    בְּאֹרַח־צְדָקָהin the path of righteousnessאֲהַלֵּךְI will walkבְּתוֹךְamongנְתִיבוֹתpathsמִשְׁפָּט׃judgment

    I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:

21. 21

    לְהַנְחִילto cause to inheritאֹהֲבַיthose who love meיֵשׁsubstanceוְאֹצְרֹתֵיהֶםand their treasuriesאֲמַלֵּא׃I shall fulfill

    That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.

22. 22

    יְהֹוָהthe LORDקָנָנִיpossessed meרֵאשִׁיתthe beginning ofדַּרְכּוֹhis wayקֶדֶםbeforeמִפְעָלָיוhis worksמֵאָז׃of old

    The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.

23. 23

    מֵעוֹלָםfrom everlastingנִסַּכְתִּיI was installedמֵרֹאשׁfrom the beginningמִקַּדְמֵי־אָרֶץ׃from the beginnings of the earth

    I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

24. 24

    בְּאֵין־תְּהֹמוֹתwhen there were no depthsחוֹלָלְתִּיI was brought forthבְּאֵיןwhen there were noמַעְיָנוֹתwere springsנִכְבַּדֵּי־מָיִם׃abounding of water

    When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.

25. 25

    בְּטֶרֶםbeforeהָרִיםmountainsהׇטְבָּעוּwere settledלִפְנֵיbeforeגְבָעוֹתthe hillsחוֹלָלְתִּי׃I was brought forth

    Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:

26. 26

    עַד־לֹאuntil notעָשָׂהhe didאֶרֶץthe land ofוְחוּצוֹתand fieldsוְרֹאשׁand the head ofעַפְרוֹתthe dust ofתֵּבֵל׃the world

    While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.

27. 27

    בַּהֲכִינוֹwhen he preparedשָׁמַיִםthe heavensשָׁםthereאָנִיIבְּחֻקוֹwhen he setחוּגa circleעַל־פְּנֵיupon the face ofתְהוֹם׃the great deep

    When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:

28. 28

    בְּאַמְּצוֹwhen he made firmשְׁחָקִיםcloudsמִמָּעַלfrom aboveבַּעֲזוֹזwhen became strongעִינוֹתthe springs ofתְּהוֹם׃the deep

    When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:

29. 29

    בְּשׂוּמוֹwhen he gaveלַיָּםthe seaחֻקּוֹhis decreeוּמַיִםand waterלֹאnotיַעַבְרוּ־פִיוthey should pass his commandmentבְּחוּקוֹwhen he marked outמוֹסְדֵיthe foundations ofאָרֶץ׃the earth

    When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:

30. 30

    וָאֶהְיֶהand I have beenאֶצְלוֹbeside itאָמוֹןas one brought upוָאֶהְיֶהand I have beenשַׁעֲשׁוּעִיםdelightיוֹםdayיוֹםdayמְשַׂחֶקֶתplayingלְפָנָיוbefore himבְּכׇל־עֵת׃in all time

    Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;

31. 31

    מְשַׂחֶקֶתplayingבְּתֵבֵלin the habitable part ofאַרְצוֹhis landוְשַׁעֲשֻׁעַיand my delightאֶת־בְּנֵיthe sons ofאָדָם׃man

    Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.

32. 32

    וְעַתָּהand nowבָנִיםsonsשִׁמְעוּ־לִיhear to meוְאַשְׁרֵיand blessed areדְּרָכַיmy waysיִשְׁמֹרוּ׃they keep

    Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.

33. 33

    שִׁמְעוּhearמוּסָרdisciplineוַחֲכָמוּand act wiselyוְאַל־תִּפְרָעוּ׃and do not refuse

    Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.

34. 34

    אַשְׁרֵי־אָדָםblessed is the manשֹׁמֵעַwho hearsלִיto meלִשְׁקֹדwatchingעַל־דַּלְתֹתַיupon my doorsיוֹםdayיוֹםdayלִשְׁמֹרto keepמְזוּזֹתthe doorposts ofפְּתָחָי׃my doorways

    Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

35. 35

    כִּיforמֹצְאִיone who finds me(מצאי)[מָצָא]findsחַיִּיםlifeוַיָּפֶקand shall obtainרָצוֹןfavorמֵיְהֹוָה׃from the LORD

    For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.

36. 36

    וְחֹטְאִיand he who sins against meחֹמֵסis doing wrong toנַפְשׁוֹhis soulכׇּל־מְשַׂנְאַיall those who hate meאָהֲבוּthey lovedמָוֶת׃death

    But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.
