Proverbs 7 מִשְׁלֵי פרק ז׳

1. 1

   בְּנִיmy sonשְׁמֹרwatchאֲמָרָיmy wordsוּמִצְוֺתַיand my commandmentsתִּצְפֹּןyou shall hideאִתָּךְ׃with you

   My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.

2. 2

   שְׁמֹרwatchמִצְוֺתַיmy commandmentsוֶחְיֵהand liveוְתוֹרָתִיand my lawכְּאִישׁוֹןlike the pupil ofעֵינֶיךָ׃your eyes

   Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

   קׇשְׁרֵםbind themעַל־אֶצְבְּעֹתֶיךָupon your fingersכׇּתְבֵםwrite themעַל־לוּחַupon the tablet ofלִבֶּךָ׃your heart

   Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.

4. 4

   אֱמֹרsayלַחׇכְמָהto the wisdomאֲחֹתִיmy sisterאָתְּyouוּמֹדָעand a relativeלַבִּינָהto the understandingתִקְרָא׃call

   Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:

   לִשְׁמׇרְךָto keep youמֵאִשָּׁהfrom a womanזָרָהstrangeמִנׇּכְרִיָּהfrom a foreign womanאֲמָרֶיהָher wordsהֶחֱלִיקָה׃she makes smooth

   That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.

   כִּיforבְּחַלּוֹןat the window ofבֵּיתִיmy houseבְּעַדthroughאֶשְׁנַבִּיmy latticeנִשְׁקָפְתִּי׃I looked down

   For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,

7. 7

   וָאֵרֶאand I sawבַפְּתָאיִםamong the simpleאָבִינָהI consideredבַבָּנִיםamong the sonsנַעַרa young manחֲסַר־לֵב׃lacking sense

   And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

   עֹבֵרpassing byבַּשּׁוּקin the streetאֵצֶלnearפִּנָּהּher cornerוְדֶרֶךְand the way ofבֵּיתָהּher houseיִצְעָד׃he strode

   Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,

9. 9

   בְּנֶשֶׁף־בְּעֶרֶבat twilight in the evening ofיוֹםdayבְּאִישׁוֹןin the middle ofלַיְלָהnightוַאֲפֵלָה׃and darkness

   In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:

10. 10

    וְהִנֵּהand beholdאִשָּׁהa womanלִקְרָאתוֹto meet himשִׁיתthe attire ofזוֹנָהharlotוּנְצֻרַתand subtil ofלֵב׃heart

    And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.

11. 11

    הֹמִיָּהis boisterousהִיאit isוְסֹרָרֶתand rebelliousבְּבֵיתָהּin her houseלֹא־יִשְׁכְּנוּthey do not abideרַגְלֶיהָ׃her feet

    (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:

12. 12

    פַּעַםnowבַּחוּץabroadפַּעַםnowבָּרְחֹבוֹתin the open placesוְאֵצֶלand besideכׇּל־פִּנָּהevery cornerתֶאֱרֹב׃she lies in wait

    Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)

13. 13

    וְהֶחֱזִיקָהand she will take holdבּוֹin itוְנָשְׁקָהand she kissesלּוֹto himהֵעֵזָהshe made boldפָנֶיהָher faceוַתֹּאמַרand she saidלוֹ׃to him

    So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,

    זִבְחֵיsacrifices ofשְׁלָמִיםpeace offeringsעָלָיupon meהַיּוֹםthe dayשִׁלַּמְתִּיI have paidנְדָרָי׃my vows

    I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.

15. 15

    עַל־כֵּןthereforeיָצָאתִיI came outלִקְרָאתֶךָto meet youלְשַׁחֵרto seekפָּנֶיךָyour faceוָאֶמְצָאֶךָּ׃and I have found you

    Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.

16. 16

    מַרְבַדִּיםcoveringsרָבַדְתִּיI have spreadעַרְשִׂיmy couchחֲטֻבוֹתcolored fabricsאֵטוּןlinen ofמִצְרָיִם׃Egypt

    I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.

17. 17

    נַפְתִּיI have sprinkledמִשְׁכָּבִיmy bedמֹרmyrrhאֲהָלִיםaloesוְקִנָּמוֹן׃and cinnamon

    I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

18. 18

    לְכָהcomeנִרְוֶהlet us take our fill ofדֹדִיםloveעַד־הַבֹּקֶרuntil the morningנִתְעַלְּסָהlet us delight ourselvesבׇּאֳהָבִים׃with love

    Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.

19. 19

    כִּיforאֵיןthere is noהָאִישׁthe manבְּבֵיתוֹin his houseהָלַךְwentבְּדֶרֶךְby the way ofמֵרָחוֹק׃from far

    For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:

20. 20

    צְרוֹר־הַכֶּסֶףthe bag of the moneyלָקַחtookבְּיָדוֹin his handלְיוֹםto dayהַכֵּסֶאthe full moonיָבֹאshall comeבֵיתוֹ׃his house

    He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.

21. 21

    הִטַּתּוּshe turns himבְּרֹבmuchלִקְחָהּher persuasivenessבְּחֵלֶקin part ofשְׂפָתֶיהָher lipsתַּדִּיחֶנּוּ׃she impels him

    With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.

22. 22

    הוֹלֵךְgoingאַחֲרֶיהָher behindפִּתְאֹםsuddenlyכְּשׁוֹרlike an oxאֶל־טֶבַחto slaughterיָבֹאshall comeוּכְעֶכֶסand as fettersאֶל־מוּסַרto the chastisement ofאֱוִיל׃fool

    He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;

23. 23

    עַדuntilיְפַלַּחhe splits openחֵץthe arrowכְּבֵדוֹhis liverכְּמַהֵרas hurriesצִפּוֹרbirdאֶל־פָּחto a trapוְלֹא־יָדַעand not he knewכִּי־בְנַפְשׁוֹthat for his lifeהוּא׃he

    Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.

24. 24

    וְעַתָּהand nowבָנִיםsonsשִׁמְעוּ־לִיhear to meוְהַקְשִׁיבוּand hearkenלְאִמְרֵי־פִי׃to the words of my mouth

    Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.

25. 25

    אַל־יֵשְׂטְlet it not declineאֶל־דְּרָכֶיהָto her waysלִבֶּךָyour heartאַל־תֵּתַעdo not go astrayבִּנְתִיבוֹתֶיהָ׃in her pathways

    Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.

26. 26

    כִּי־רַבִּיםfor manyחֲלָלִיםthose slainהִפִּילָהshe has made fallוַעֲצֻמִיםand mightyכׇּל־הֲרֻגֶיהָ׃all her killed men

    For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.

27. 27

    דַּרְכֵיthe ways ofשְׁאוֹלSheolבֵּיתָהּher houseיֹרְדוֹתare going downאֶל־חַדְרֵי־מָוֶת׃to the chambers of death

    Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.
