1. 1

   בֵּןa sonחָכָםwiseמוּסַרthe discipline ofאָבfatherוְלֵץand a mockerלֹא־שָׁמַעhears notגְּעָרָה׃a rebuke

   A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

2. 2

   מִפְּרִיof fruit ofפִי־אִישׁthe mouth of a manיֹאכַלhe shall eatטוֹבgoodוְנֶפֶשׁand soulבֹּגְדִיםtreacherous peopleחָמָס׃violence

   A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

3. 3

   נֹצֵרhe who keepsפִּיוhis mouthשֹׁמֵרwho keepsנַפְשׁוֹhis soulפֹּשֵׂקone who opensשְׂפָתָיוhis lipsמְחִתָּה־לוֹ׃destruction to him

   He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

4. 4

   מִתְאַוָּהdesiresוָאַיִןand has nothingנַפְשׁוֹhis soulעָצֵלthe sluggardוְנֶפֶשׁand soulחָרֻצִיםdiligent peopleתְּדֻשָּׁן׃it will be made fat

   The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

   דְּבַר־שֶׁקֶרword of falseיִשְׂנָאhe will hateצַדִּיקrighteousוְרָשָׁעand the wickedיַבְאִישׁis loathsomeוְיַחְפִּיר׃and he may act shamefully

   A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

   צְדָקָהrighteousnessתִּצֹּרkeepsתׇּם־דָּרֶךְthe upright in the wayוְרִשְׁעָהand wickednessתְּסַלֵּףoverthrowsחַטָּאת׃sin

   Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

7. 7

   יֵשׁthere isמִתְעַשֵּׁרis one who enriches himselfוְאֵיןand there is noכֹּלanythingמִתְרוֹשֵׁשׁone who impoverishes himselfוְהוֹןand the wealth ofרָב׃much

   There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

8. 8

   כֹּפֶרa ransomנֶפֶשׁ־אִישׁsoul man ofעׇשְׁרוֹhis richesוְרָשׁand a poor personלֹא־שָׁמַעhears notגְּעָרָה׃a rebuke

   The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.

9. 9

   אוֹר־צַדִּיקִיםthe light of the righteousיִשְׂמָחhe will rejoiceוְנֵרand the lamp ofרְשָׁעִיםwicked menיִדְעָךְ׃it is extinguished

   The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

10. 10

    רַק־בְּזָדוֹןonly by prideיִתֵּןcomesמַצָּהcontentionוְאֶת־נוֹעָצִיםand with the well advisedחׇכְמָה׃wisdom

    Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

11. 11

    הוֹןwealthמֵהֶבֶלgotten by vanityיִמְעָטit will become smallוְקֹבֵץand one who gathersעַל־יָדby laborיַרְבֶּה׃shall multiply

    Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

12. 12

    תּוֹחֶלֶתthe hope ofמְמֻשָּׁכָהdeferredמַחֲלָה־לֵבmakes the heart sickוְעֵץand tree ofחַיִּיםlifeתַּאֲוָהdesireבָאָה׃when it comes

    Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

13. 13

    בָּזone who despisesלְדָבָרthe wordיֵחָבֶלshall be destroyedלוֹto himוִירֵאand fearingמִצְוָהcommandmentהוּאheיְשֻׁלָּם׃he is rewarded

    Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

14. 14

    תּוֹרַתthe law ofחָכָםwiseמְקוֹרfountain ofחַיִּיםlifeלָסוּרto departמִמֹּקְשֵׁיfrom snares ofמָוֶת׃death

    The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

15. 15

    שֵׂכֶל־טוֹבinsight goodיִתֶּן־חֵןhe will give favorוְדֶרֶךְand the way ofבֹּגְדִיםtreacherous peopleאֵיתָן׃is hard

    Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

16. 16

    כׇּל־עָרוּםall cunningיַעֲשֶׂהhe shall doבְדָעַתwith knowledgeוּכְסִילand a foolיִפְרֹשׂit spreads outאִוֶּלֶת׃foolishness

    Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.

17. 17

    מַלְאָךְa messengerרָשָׁעwickedיִפֹּלfallsבְּרָעin troubleוְצִירand an envoy ofאֱמוּנִיםfaithful peopleמַרְפֵּא׃health

    A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.

18. 18

    רֵישׁpovertyוְקָלוֹןand shameפּוֹרֵעַone who ignoresמוּסָרdisciplineוְשֹׁמֵרand he who regardsתּוֹכַחַתrebukeיְכֻבָּד׃he is honored

    Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

19. 19

    תַּאֲוָהdesireנִהְיָהaccomplishedתֶּעֱרַבis sweetלְנָפֶשׁto a personוְתוֹעֲבַתand the abominations ofכְּסִילִיםfoolsסוּרdepartמֵרָע׃from evil

    The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

20. 20

    (הלוך)[הוֹלֵךְ]he who walksאֶת־חֲכָמִיםwise(וחכם)[יֶחְכָּם]shall be wiseוְרֹעֶהand a companion ofכְסִילִיםfoolsיֵרוֹעַ׃shall be destroyed

    He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

21. 21

    חַטָּאִיםsinnersתְּרַדֵּףit pursuesרָעָהevilוְאֶת־צַדִּיקִיםand to the righteousיְשַׁלֶּם־טוֹב׃he repays good

    Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

22. 22

    טוֹבgoodיַנְחִילhe will give as an inheritanceבְּנֵי־בָנִיםsons of sonsוְצָפוּןand is stored upלַצַּדִּיקunto the righteousחֵילthe wealth ofחוֹטֵא׃a sinner

    A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

23. 23

    רׇב־אֹכֶלmuch foodנִירthe tillage ofרָאשִׁיםthe poorוְיֵשׁand there isנִסְפֶּהthat is destroyedבְּלֹאwithoutמִשְׁפָּט׃judgment

    Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.

24. 24

    חוֹשֵׂךְone who restrainsשִׁבְטוֹhis rodשׂוֹנֵאone who hatesבְנוֹhis sonוְאֹהֲבוֹand one who loves himשִׁחֲרוֹchastens him betimesמוּסָר׃discipline

    He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

25. 25

    צַדִּיקrighteousאֹכֵלateלְשֹׂבַעto the satiety ofנַפְשׁוֹhis soulוּבֶטֶןand the belly ofרְשָׁעִיםwicked menתֶּחְסָר׃it is lacking

    The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
