   And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,

   צַוtsavcommandאֶת־בְּנֵיet-be/NEthe children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוְנָתְנוּve/na/te/NUthat they giveלַלְוִיִּםLal/viy/YIMto the Levitesמִנַּחֲלַתmin/na/cha/LATof the inheritance ofאֲחֻזָּתָםa/chuz/za/TAMtheir possessionעָרִיםa/RIMcitiesלָשָׁבֶתla/SHA/vetto dwell inוּמִגְרָשׁu/mig/RASHand pasture landלֶעָרִיםle/a/RIMfor the citiesסְבִיבֹתֵיהֶםse/vi/vo/te/HEMround about themתִּתְּנוּtit/te/NUyou shall giveלַלְוִיִּם׃Lal/viy/YIMto the Levites

   Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them.

   וְהָיוּve/ha/YUand shall beהֶעָרִיםhe/a/RIMthe citiesלָהֶםla/HEMtheirsלָשָׁבֶתla/SHA/vetto dwell inוּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶםu/mig/re/she/HEMand their pasture landsיִהְיוּyih/YUshall beלִבְהֶמְתָּםliv/hem/TAMfor their cattleוְלִרְכֻשָׁםve/lir/khu/SHAMand for their goodsוּלְכֹלu/le/KHOLand for allחַיָּתָם׃chay/ya/TAMtheir beasts

   And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.

   וּמִגְרְשֵׁיu/mig/re/SHEand the pasture lands ofהֶעָרִיםhe/a/RIMthe citiesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichתִּתְּנוּtit/te/NUyou shall giveלַלְוִיִּםLal/viy/YIMto the Levitesמִקִּירmik/KIRfrom the wall ofהָעִירha/IRthe cityוָחוּצָהva/CHU/tsaand outwardאֶלֶףE/lefa thousandאַמָּהam/MAcubitsסָבִיב׃sa/VIVround about

   And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.

   And ye shall measure from without the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits; and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.

   וְאֵתve/ETandהֶעָרִיםhe/a/RIMthe citiesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichתִּתְּנוּtit/te/NUyou shall giveלַלְוִיִּםLal/viy/YIMto the Levitesאֵת־שֵׁשׁ־עָרֵיet-shesh-a/REthe six cities ofהַמִּקְלָטham/mik/LATrefugeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichתִּתְּנוּtit/te/NUyou shall giveלָנֻסla/NUSthat may fleeשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathereהָרֹצֵחַha/ro/TSE/achthe manslayerוַעֲלֵיהֶםva/a/le/HEMand to themתִּתְּנוּtit/te/NUyou shall giveאַרְבָּעִיםar/ba/IMfortyוּשְׁתַּיִםush/TA/yimand twoעִיר׃ircities

   And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.

   כׇּל־הֶעָרִיםkol-he/a/RIMall the citiesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichתִּתְּנוּtit/te/NUyou shall giveלַלְוִיִּםLal/viy/YIMto the Levitesאַרְבָּעִיםar/ba/IMfortyוּשְׁמֹנֶהu/she/mo/NEand eightעִירircitiesאֶתְהֶןet/HENthemוְאֶת־מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶן׃ve/ET-mig/re/she/HENand their pasture lands

   So all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give with their suburbs.

   וְהֶעָרִיםve/he/a/RIMand the citiesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichתִּתְּנוּtit/te/NUyou shall giveמֵאֲחֻזַּתme/a/chuz/ZATof the possession ofבְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלbe/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelמֵאֵתme/ETfromהָרַבha/RAVthe manyתַּרְבּוּtar/BUyou shall give moreוּמֵאֵתu/me/ETand fromהַמְעַטham/ATthe fewתַּמְעִיטוּtam/I/tuyou shall give fewerאִישׁishevery oneכְּפִיke/FIaccording toנַחֲלָתוֹna/cha/la/TOhis inheritanceאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichיִנְחָלוּyin/CHA/luhe inheritsיִתֵּןyit/TENshall giveמֵעָרָיוme/a/RAYVof his citiesלַלְוִיִּם׃Lal/viy/YIMto the Levites

   And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have many ye shall give many; but from them that have few ye shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inheriteth.

   And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

10. 10

    דַּבֵּרdab/BERspeakאֶל־בְּנֵיel-be/NEto the children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוְאָמַרְתָּve/a/mar/TAand sayאֲלֵהֶםa/le/HEMto themכִּיkiwhenאַתֶּםat/TEMyouעֹבְרִיםov/RIMpass overאֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּןet-Hay/yar/DENthe JordanאַרְצָהAR/tsainto the land ofכְּנָעַן׃Ke/NA/anCanaan

    Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan;

11. 11

    וְהִקְרִיתֶםve/hik/ri/TEMthen you shall appointלָכֶםla/KHEMfor yourselvesעָרִיםa/RIMcitiesעָרֵיa/REcities ofמִקְלָטmik/LATrefugeתִּהְיֶינָהtih/YE/nathey shall beלָכֶםla/KHEMfor yourselvesוְנָסve/NASthat may fleeשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathereרֹצֵחַro/TSE/achthe manslayerמַכֵּה־נֶפֶשׁmak/KE-NE/feshwho kills any personבִּשְׁגָגָה׃bish/ga/GAby inadvertence

    Then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at unawares.

    וְהָיוּve/ha/YUand shall beלָכֶםla/KHEMfor youהֶעָרִיםhe/a/RIMthe citiesלְמִקְלָטle/mik/LATfor refugeמִגֹּאֵלmig/go/ELfrom the avengerוְלֹאve/LOthat notיָמוּתya/MUTshall dieהָרֹצֵחַha/ro/TSE/achthe manslayerעַד־עׇמְדוֹad-om/DOuntil he standsלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהָעֵדָהha/e/DAthe congregationלַמִּשְׁפָּט׃lam/mish/PATfor judgment

    And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment.

13. 13

    וְהֶעָרִיםve/he/a/RIMand the citiesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichתִּתֵּנוּtit/TE/nuyou shall giveשֵׁשׁ־עָרֵיshesh-a/REsix cities ofמִקְלָטmik/LATrefugeתִּהְיֶינָהtih/YE/nathey shall beלָכֶם׃la/KHEMfor you

    And of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge.

14. 14

    אֵת־שְׁלֹשׁet-she/LOSHthree ofהֶעָרִיםhe/a/RIMthe citiesתִּתְּנוּtit/te/NUyou shall giveמֵעֵבֶרme/E/verbeyondלַיַּרְדֵּןlay/Yar/DENthe Jordanוְאֵתve/ETandשְׁלֹשׁshe/LOSHthree ofהֶעָרִיםhe/a/RIMthe citiesתִּתְּנוּtit/te/NUyou shall giveבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the land ofכְּנָעַןKe/NA/anCanaanעָרֵיa/REcities ofמִקְלָטmik/LATrefugeתִּהְיֶינָה׃tih/YE/nathey shall be

    Ye shall give three cities on this side Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan, which shall be cities of refuge.

15. 15

    לִבְנֵיliv/NEfor the children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוְלַגֵּרve/lag/GERand for the strangerוְלַתּוֹשָׁבve/lat/to/SHAVand for the sojournerבְּתוֹכָםbe/to/KHAMamong themתִּהְיֶינָהtih/YE/nathey shall beשֵׁשׁ־הֶעָרִיםshesh-he/a/RIMsix citiesהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseלְמִקְלָטle/mik/LATfor refugeלָנוּסla/NUSthat may fleeשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathereכׇּל־מַכֵּה־נֶפֶשׁkol-mak/KE-NE/feshwhoever kills any personבִּשְׁגָגָה׃bish/ga/GAby inadvertence

    These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither.

16. 16

    וְאִם־בִּכְלִיve/IM-bikh/LIand if with an instrument ofבַרְזֶלvar/ZELironהִכָּהוּhik/KA/huhe struck himוַיָּמֹתvay/ya/MOTso that he diedרֹצֵחַro/TSE/acha murdererהוּאhuhe isמוֹתmotdieיוּמַתyu/MATshall be put to deathהָרֹצֵחַ׃ha/ro/TSE/achthe murderer

    And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

17. 17

    וְאִםve/IMand ifבְּאֶבֶןbe/E/venwith a stoneיָדyadin the handאֲשֶׁר־יָמוּתa/SHER-ya/MUTthat may dieבָּהּbaby itהִכָּהוּhik/KA/huhe struck himוַיָּמֹתvay/ya/MOTso that he diedרֹצֵחַro/TSE/acha murdererהוּאhuhe isמוֹתmotdieיוּמַתyu/MATshall be put to deathהָרֹצֵחַ׃ha/ro/TSE/achthe murderer

    And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

18. 18

    אוֹoorבִּכְלִיbikh/LIwith an instrument ofעֵץ־יָדets-yadwood in the handאֲשֶׁר־יָמוּתa/SHER-ya/MUTthat may dieבּוֹboby itהִכָּהוּhik/KA/huhe struck himוַיָּמֹתvay/ya/MOTso that he diedרֹצֵחַro/TSE/acha murdererהוּאhuhe isמוֹתmotdieיוּמַתyu/MATshall be put to deathהָרֹצֵחַ׃ha/ro/TSE/achthe murderer

    Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

19. 19

    גֹּאֵלgo/ELthe avenger ofהַדָּםhad/DAMthe bloodהוּאhuhimselfיָמִיתya/MITshall slayאֶת־הָרֹצֵחַet-ha/ro/TSE/achthe murdererבְּפִגְעוֹ־בוֹbe/fig/O-vowhen he meets himהוּאhuheיְמִתֶנּוּ׃ye/mi/ten/NUshall slay him

    The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.

20. 20

    וְאִם־בְּשִׂנְאָהve/IM-be/sin/Abut if out of hatredיֶהְדֳּפֶנּוּyeh/do/FEN/nuhe thrusts himאוֹ־הִשְׁלִיךְo-hish/LIKHor hurlsעָלָיוa/LAYVat himבִּצְדִיָּהbits/diy/YAby lying in waitוַיָּמֹת׃vay/ya/MOTso that he died

    But if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die;

21. 21

    אוֹoorבְאֵיבָהve/e/VAin enmityהִכָּהוּhik/KA/huhe struck himבְיָדוֹve/ya/DOwith his handוַיָּמֹתvay/ya/MOTso that he diedמוֹת־יוּמַתmot-yu/MATdie he shall be put to deathהַמַּכֶּהham/mak/KEhe who struckרֹצֵחַro/TSE/acha murdererהוּאhuhe isגֹּאֵלgo/ELthe avenger ofהַדָּםhad/DAMthe bloodיָמִיתya/MITshall slayאֶת־הָרֹצֵחַet-ha/ro/TSE/achthe murdererבְּפִגְעוֹ־בוֹ׃be/fig/O-vowhen he meets him

    Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.

22. 22

    וְאִם־בְּפֶתַעve/IM-be/FE/tabut if suddenlyבְּלֹא־אֵיבָהbe/LO-e/VAwithout enmityהֲדָפוֹha/da/FOhe thrust himאוֹ־הִשְׁלִיךְo-hish/LIKHor hurledעָלָיוa/LAYVat himכׇּל־כְּלִיkol-ke/LIany thingבְּלֹאbe/LOwithoutצְדִיָּה׃tse/diy/YAlying in wait

    But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait,

23. 23

    אוֹoorבְכׇל־אֶבֶןve/KHOL-E/venwith any stoneאֲשֶׁר־יָמוּתa/SHER-ya/MUTthat may dieבָּהּbaby itבְּלֹאbe/LOwithoutרְאוֹתre/OTseeingוַיַּפֵּלvay/yap/PELand cast itעָלָיוa/LAYVupon himוַיָּמֹתvay/ya/MOTso that he diedוְהוּאve/HUand heלֹא־אוֹיֵבlo-o/YEVwas not an enemyלוֹlohisוְלֹאve/LOnorמְבַקֵּשׁme/vak/KESHsoughtרָעָתוֹ׃ra/a/TOhis harm

    Or with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not his enemy, neither sought his harm:

24. 24

    וְשָׁפְטוּve/sha/fe/TUthen shall judgeהָעֵדָהha/e/DAthe congregationבֵּיןbenbetweenהַמַּכֶּהham/mak/KEthe slayerוּבֵיןu/VENand betweenגֹּאֵלgo/ELthe avenger ofהַדָּםhad/DAMthe bloodעַלalaccording toהַמִּשְׁפָּטִיםham/mish/pa/TIMthe judgmentsהָאֵלֶּה׃ha/EL/lethese

    Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments:

25. 25

    וְהִצִּילוּve/hits/TSI/luand shall deliverהָעֵדָהha/e/DAthe congregationאֶת־הָרֹצֵחַet-ha/ro/TSE/achthe manslayerמִיַּדmiy/YADfrom the hand ofגֹּאֵלgo/ELthe avenger ofהַדָּםhad/DAMthe bloodוְהֵשִׁיבוּve/he/SHI/vuand shall restoreאֹתוֹo/TOhimהָעֵדָהha/e/DAthe congregationאֶל־עִירel-irto the city ofמִקְלָטוֹmik/la/TOhis refugeאֲשֶׁר־נָסa/SHER-nasto which he had fledשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathereוְיָשַׁבve/ya/SHAVand he shall dwellבָּהּbain itעַד־מוֹתad-motuntil the death ofהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestהַגָּדֹלhag/ga/DOLhighאֲשֶׁר־מָשַׁחa/SHER-ma/SHACHwhom one anointedאֹתוֹo/TOhimבְּשֶׁמֶןbe/SHE/menwith oilהַקֹּדֶשׁ׃hak/KO/deshholy

    And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.

26. 26

    וְאִם־יָצֹאve/IM-ya/TSObut if go outיֵצֵאye/TSEgoes outהָרֹצֵחַha/ro/TSE/achthe manslayerאֶת־גְּבוּלet-ge/VULbeyond the border ofעִירirthe city ofמִקְלָטוֹmik/la/TOhis refugeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERto whichיָנוּסya/NUShe fledשָׁמָּה׃SHAM/mathere

    But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled;

27. 27

    וּמָצָאu/ma/TSAand findsאֹתוֹo/TOhimגֹּאֵלgo/ELthe avenger ofהַדָּםhad/DAMthe bloodמִחוּץmi/CHUTSoutsideלִגְבוּלlig/VULthe border ofעִירirthe city ofמִקְלָטוֹmik/la/TOhis refugeוְרָצַחve/ra/TSACHand killsגֹּאֵלgo/ELthe avenger ofהַדָּםhad/DAMthe bloodאֶת־הָרֹצֵחַet-ha/ro/TSE/achthe manslayerאֵיןenthere is noלוֹlofor himדָּם׃dambloodguilt

    And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:

28. 28

    כִּיkibecauseבְעִירve/IRin the city ofמִקְלָטוֹmik/la/TOhis refugeיֵשֵׁבye/SHEVhe should have remainedעַד־מוֹתad-motuntil the death ofהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestהַגָּדֹלhag/ga/DOLhighוְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand afterמוֹתmotthe death ofהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestהַגָּדֹלhag/ga/DOLhighיָשׁוּבya/SHUVshall returnהָרֹצֵחַha/ro/TSE/achthe manslayerאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsto the land ofאֲחֻזָּתוֹ׃a/chuz/za/TOhis possession

    Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.

29. 29

    וְהָיוּve/ha/YUand shall beאֵלֶּהEL/letheseלָכֶםla/KHEMfor youלְחֻקַּתle/chuk/KATfor a statute ofמִשְׁפָּטmish/PATjudgmentלְדֹרֹתֵיכֶםle/do/ro/te/KHEMfor your generationsבְּכֹלbe/KHOLin allמוֹשְׁבֹתֵיכֶם׃mosh/vo/te/KHEMyour dwellings

    So these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

30. 30

    כׇּל־מַכֵּה־נֶפֶשׁkol-mak/KE-NE/feshwhoever kills any personלְפִיle/FIby the mouth ofעֵדִיםe/DIMwitnessesיִרְצַחyir/TSACHone shall slayאֶת־הָרֹצֵחַet-ha/ro/TSE/achthe murdererוְעֵדve/EDbut witnessאֶחָדe/CHADoneלֹא־יַעֲנֶהlo-ya/a/NEshall not testifyבְנֶפֶשׁve/NE/feshagainst any personלָמוּת׃la/MUTto die

    Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die.

31. 31

    וְלֹא־תִקְחוּve/LO-tik/CHUand you shall take noכֹפֶרKHO/fera ransomלְנֶפֶשׁle/NE/feshfor the life ofרֹצֵחַro/TSE/acha murdererאֲשֶׁר־הוּאa/SHER-huwho isרָשָׁעra/SHAguiltyלָמוּתla/MUTof deathכִּי־מוֹתki-motbut dieיוּמָת׃yu/MATshall he be put to death

    Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.

32. 32

    וְלֹא־תִקְחוּve/LO-tik/CHUand you shall take noכֹפֶרKHO/fera ransomלָנוּסla/NUSfor him who fledאֶל־עִירel-irto the city ofמִקְלָטוֹmik/la/TOhis refugeלָשׁוּבla/SHUVthat he should come againלָשֶׁבֶתla/SHE/vetto dwellבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landעַד־מוֹתad-motuntil the death ofהַכֹּהֵן׃hak/ko/HENthe priest

    And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.

33. 33

    וְלֹא־תַחֲנִיפוּve/LO-ta/cha/NI/fuso you shall not polluteאֶת־הָאָרֶץet-ha/A/retsthe landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERin whichאַתֶּםat/TEMyou areבָּהּbain itכִּיkiforהַדָּםhad/DAMthe bloodהוּאhuitיַחֲנִיףya/cha/NIFpollutesאֶת־הָאָרֶץet-ha/A/retsthe landוְלָאָרֶץve/la/A/retsand for the landלֹא־יְכֻפַּרlo-ye/khup/PARno atonement can be madeלַדָּםlad/DAMfor the bloodאֲשֶׁרa/SHERin whichשֻׁפַּךְ־בָּהּshup/PAKH-bais shed in itכִּי־אִםki-imexceptבְּדַםbe/DAMby the blood ofשֹׁפְכוֹ׃shof/KHOhim who shed it

    So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.

34. 34
