   Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.

   And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.

   וַיָּרֶבvay/YA/revand contendedהָעָםha/AMthe peopleעִם־מֹשֶׁהim-Mo/SHEwith Mosesוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingוְלוּve/LUwould thatגָוַעְנוּga/VA/nuwe had diedבִּגְוַעbig/VAwhen diedאַחֵינוּa/CHE/nuour brothersלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

   And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!

   וְלָמָהve/la/MAand whyהֲבֵאתֶםha/ve/TEMhave you broughtאֶת־קְהַלet-ke/HALthe assembly ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־הַמִּדְבָּרel-ham/mid/BARinto the wildernessהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisלָמוּתla/MUTthat should dieשָׁםshamthereאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweוּבְעִירֵנוּ׃u/ve/i/RE/nuand our livestock

   And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?

   וְלָמָהve/la/MAand whyהֶעֱלִיתֻנוּhe/e/li/TU/nuhave you brought us upמִמִּצְרַיִםmim/Mits/RA/yimout of Egyptלְהָבִיאle/ha/VIto bringאֹתָנוּo/TA/nuusאֶל־הַמָּקוֹםel-ham/ma/KOMto the placeהָרָעha/RAevilהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisלֹאloit is notמְקוֹםme/KOMa place ofזֶרַעZE/raseedוּתְאֵנָהu/te/e/NAor figsוְגֶפֶןve/GE/fenor vinesוְרִמּוֹןve/rim/MONor pomegranatesוּמַיִםu/MA/yimand waterאַיִןA/yinthere is noלִשְׁתּוֹת׃lish/TOTto drink

   And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.

   And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.

   And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

   קַחkachtakeאֶת־הַמַּטֶּהet-ham/mat/TEthe staffוְהַקְהֵלve/hak/HELand gatherאֶת־הָעֵדָהet-ha/e/DAthe congregationאַתָּהat/TAyouוְאַהֲרֹןve/A/ha/RONand Aaronאָחִיךָa/CHI/khayour brotherוְדִבַּרְתֶּםve/dib/bar/TEMand speakאֶל־הַסֶּלַעel-has/SE/lato the rockלְעֵינֵיהֶםle/e/ne/HEMbefore their eyesוְנָתַןve/na/TANthat it giveמֵימָיוme/MAYVits waterוְהוֹצֵאתָve/ho/tse/TAand you shall bring forthלָהֶםla/HEMfor themמַיִםMA/yimwaterמִן־הַסֶּלַעmin-has/SE/lafrom the rockוְהִשְׁקִיתָve/hish/ki/TAand give drink toאֶת־הָעֵדָהet-ha/e/DAthe congregationוְאֶת־בְּעִירָם׃ve/ET-be/i/RAMand their livestock

   Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.

   And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.

    וַיַּקְהִלוּvay/yak/HI/luand gatheredמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesוְאַהֲרֹןve/A/ha/RONand Aaronאֶת־הַקָּהָלet-hak/ka/HALthe assemblyאֶל־פְּנֵיel-pe/NEbeforeהַסָּלַעhas/SA/lathe rockוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָהֶםla/HEMto themשִׁמְעוּ־נָאshim/U-nahear nowהַמֹּרִיםham/mo/RIMyou rebelsהֲמִן־הַסֶּלַעha/MIN-has/SE/laout of the rockהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisנוֹצִיאno/TSImust we bringלָכֶםla/KHEMfor youמָיִם׃MA/yimwater

    And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?

    וַיָּרֶםvay/YA/remand raisedמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesאֶת־יָדוֹet-ya/DOhis handוַיַּךְvay/YAKHand struckאֶת־הַסֶּלַעet-has/SE/lathe rockבְּמַטֵּהוּbe/mat/TE/huwith his staffפַּעֲמָיִםpa/a/MA/yimtwiceוַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uand came outמַיִםMA/yimwaterרַבִּיםrab/BIMabundantlyוַתֵּשְׁתְּvat/TESHTand drankהָעֵדָהha/e/DAthe congregationוּבְעִירָם׃u/ve/i/RAMand their livestock

    And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־מֹשֶׁהel-Mo/SHEto Mosesוְאֶל־אַהֲרֹןve/EL-a/ha/RONand to AaronיַעַןYA/anbecauseלֹא־הֶאֱמַנְתֶּםlo-he/e/man/TEMyou did not believeבִּיbiin meלְהַקְדִּישֵׁנִיle/hak/di/SHE/nito sanctify meלְעֵינֵיle/e/NEin the eyes ofבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeלֹאlonotתָבִיאוּta/VI/ushall you bringאֶת־הַקָּהָלet-hak/ka/HALthe assemblyהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאֶל־הָאָרֶץel-ha/A/retsinto the landאֲשֶׁר־נָתַתִּיa/SHER-na/TAT/tiwhich I have givenלָהֶם׃la/HEMto them

    And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

    הֵמָּהHEM/mathese areמֵיmethe waters ofמְרִיבָהMe/ri/VAMeribahאֲשֶׁר־רָבוּa/SHER-ra/VUwhere stroveבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDוַיִּקָּדֵשׁvay/yik/ka/DESHand He was sanctifiedבָּם׃bamin them

    This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesמַלְאָכִיםmal/a/KHIMmessengersמִקָּדֵשׁmik/Ka/DESHfrom Kadeshאֶל־מֶלֶךְel-ME/lekhto the king ofאֱדוֹםE/DOMEdomכֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysאָחִיךָa/CHI/khayour brotherיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאַתָּהat/TAyouיָדַעְתָּya/DA/taknowאֵת־כׇּל־הַתְּלָאָהet-kol-hat/te/la/Aall the travailאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichמְצָאָתְנוּ׃me/tsa/AT/nuhas befallen us

    And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us:

15. 15

    וַיֵּרְדוּvay/yer/DUhow went downאֲבֹתֵינוּa/vo/TE/nuour fathersמִצְרַיְמָהMits/RAY/mato Egyptוַנֵּשֶׁבvan/NE/shevand we dweltבְּמִצְרַיִםbe/Mits/RA/yimin Egyptיָמִיםya/MIMdaysרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyוַיָּרֵעוּvay/ya/RE/uand dealt illלָנוּLA/nuto usמִצְרַיִםMits/RA/yimEgyptוְלַאֲבֹתֵינוּ׃ve/la/a/vo/TE/nuand with our fathers

    How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers:

16. 16

    וַנִּצְעַקvan/nits/AKand when we criedאֶל־יְהֹוָהel-Adonaito the LORDוַיִּשְׁמַעvay/yish/MAHe heardקֹלֵנוּko/LE/nuour voiceוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentמַלְאָךְmal/AKHan angelוַיֹּצִאֵנוּvay/yo/tsi/E/nuand brought us outמִמִּצְרָיִםmim/Mits/RA/yimout of Egyptוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuwe areבְקָדֵשׁve/Ka/DESHin Kadeshעִירira cityקְצֵהke/TSEon the edge ofגְבוּלֶךָ׃ge/vu/LE/khayour border

    And when we cried unto the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border:

17. 17

    נַעְבְּרָה־נָּאna/be/RA-nalet us pass pleaseבְאַרְצֶךָve/ar/TSE/khathrough your landלֹאlonotנַעֲבֹרna/a/VORwe will passבְּשָׂדֶהbe/sa/DEthrough fieldוּבְכֶרֶםu/ve/KHE/remor through vineyardוְלֹאve/LOand notנִשְׁתֶּהnish/TEwill we drinkמֵיmethe water ofבְאֵרve/ERa wellדֶּרֶךְDE/rekhby the way ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingנֵלֵךְne/LEKHwe will goלֹאlonotנִטֶּהnit/TEwill we turnיָמִיןya/MINto the rightוּשְׂמֹאולus/MOLor to the leftעַדaduntilאֲשֶׁר־נַעֲבֹרa/SHER-na/a/VORwe have passedגְּבֻלֶךָ׃ge/vu/LE/khayour border

    Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king's high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.

18. 18

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאֱדוֹםE/DOMEdomלֹאlonotתַעֲבֹרta/a/VORyou shall passבִּיbithrough meפֶּן־בַּחֶרֶבpen-ba/CHE/revlest with the swordאֵצֵאe/TSEI come outלִקְרָאתֶךָ׃lik/ra/TE/khato meet you

    And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out against thee with the sword.

19. 19

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himבְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלbe/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelבַּמְסִלָּהbam/sil/LAby the highwayנַעֲלֶהna/a/LEwe will go upוְאִם־מֵימֶיךָve/IM-me/ME/khaand if your waterנִשְׁתֶּהnish/TEwe drinkאֲנִיa/NIIוּמִקְנַיu/mik/NAYand my livestockוְנָתַתִּיve/na/tat/TIthen I will payמִכְרָםmikh/RAMits priceרַקrakonlyאֵין־דָּבָרen-da/VARit is nothingבְּרַגְלַיbe/rag/LAYon my feetאֶעֱבֹרָה׃e/e/VO/ralet me pass through

    And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing any thing else, go through on my feet.

20. 20

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלֹאlonotתַעֲבֹרta/a/VORyou shall passוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outאֱדוֹםE/DOMEdomלִקְרָאתוֹlik/ra/TOto meet himבְּעַםbe/AMwith peopleכָּבֵדka/VEDmanyוּבְיָדu/ve/YADand with a handחֲזָקָה׃cha/za/KAstrong

    And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.

21. 21

    וַיְמָאֵןvay/ma/ENand he refusedאֱדוֹםE/DOMEdomנְתֹןne/TONto giveאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Yis/ra/ELIsraelעֲבֹרa/VORpassageבִּגְבֻלוֹbig/vu/LOthrough his borderוַיֵּטvay/YETso turnedיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelמֵעָלָיו׃me/a/LAYVaway from him

    Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.

22. 22

    וַיִּסְעוּvay/yis/Uand they set outמִקָּדֵשׁmik/Ka/DESHfrom Kadeshוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand cameבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelכׇּל־הָעֵדָהkol-ha/e/DAall the congregationהֹרHorto Horהָהָר׃ha/HARthe mountain

    And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto mount Hor.

23. 23

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־מֹשֶׁהel-Mo/SHEto Mosesוְאֶל־אַהֲרֹןve/EL-a/ha/RONand to Aaronבְּהֹרbe/HORat Horהָהָרha/HARthe mountainעַל־גְּבוּלal-ge/VULby the border ofאֶרֶץ־אֱדוֹםE/rets-E/DOMthe land of Edomלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom, saying,

24. 24

    יֵאָסֵףye/a/SEFshall be gatheredאַהֲרֹןA/ha/RONAaronאֶל־עַמָּיוel-am/MAYVto his peopleכִּיkiforלֹאlonotיָבֹאya/VOshall he enterאֶל־הָאָרֶץel-ha/A/retsinto the landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנָתַתִּיna/TAT/tiI have givenלִבְנֵיliv/NEto the children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelעַלalbecauseאֲשֶׁר־מְרִיתֶםa/SHER-me/ri/TEMyou rebelled againstאֶת־פִּיet-pimy wordלְמֵיle/MEat the waters ofמְרִיבָה׃Me/ri/VAMeribah

    Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah.

    קַחkachtakeאֶת־אַהֲרֹןet-A/ha/RONAaronוְאֶת־אֶלְעָזָרve/ET-el/a/ZARand Eleazarבְּנוֹbe/NOhis sonוְהַעַלve/HA/aland bring upאֹתָםo/TAMthemהֹרHorto Horהָהָר׃ha/HARthe mountain

    Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor:

26. 26

    וְהַפְשֵׁטve/haf/SHETand stripאֶת־אַהֲרֹןet-A/ha/RONAaronאֶת־בְּגָדָיוet-be/ga/DAYVhis garmentsוְהִלְבַּשְׁתָּםve/hil/bash/TAMand put them onאֶת־אֶלְעָזָרet-El/a/ZAREleazarבְּנוֹbe/NOhis sonוְאַהֲרֹןve/A/ha/RONand Aaronיֵאָסֵףye/a/SEFshall be gatheredוּמֵתu/METand shall dieשָׁם׃shamthere

    And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there.

27. 27

    וַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand didמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasצִוָּהtsiv/VAcommandedיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַיַּעֲלוּvay/ya/a/LUand they went upאֶל־הֹרel-Horto Horהָהָרha/HARthe mountainלְעֵינֵיle/e/NEin the sight ofכׇּל־הָעֵדָה׃kol-ha/e/DAall the congregation

    And Moses did as the LORD commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.

28. 28

    וַיַּפְשֵׁטvay/yaf/SHETand strippedמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesאֶת־אַהֲרֹןet-A/ha/RONAaronאֶת־בְּגָדָיוet-be/ga/DAYVhis garmentsוַיַּלְבֵּשׁvay/yal/BESHand putאֹתָםo/TAMthem onאֶת־אֶלְעָזָרet-El/a/ZAREleazarבְּנוֹbe/NOhis sonוַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand diedאַהֲרֹןA/ha/RONAaronשָׁםshamthereבְּרֹאשׁbe/ROSHon the top ofהָהָרha/HARthe mountainוַיֵּרֶדvay/YE/redand came downמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesוְאֶלְעָזָרve/El/a/ZARand Eleazarמִן־הָהָר׃min-ha/HARfrom the mountain

    And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.

    וַיִּרְאוּvay/yir/Uand they sawכׇּל־הָעֵדָהkol-ha/e/DAall the congregationכִּיkithatגָוַעga/VAhad diedאַהֲרֹןA/ha/RONAaronוַיִּבְכּוּvay/yiv/KUand they weptאֶת־אַהֲרֹןet-A/ha/RONAaronשְׁלֹשִׁיםshe/lo/SHIMthirtyיוֹםyomdaysכֹּלkolallבֵּיתbetthe house ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
