   And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

   Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.

   And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.

   And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.

   Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

    These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua.

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentאֹתָםo/TAMthemמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesלָתוּרla/TURto spy outאֶת־אֶרֶץet-E/retsthe land ofכְּנָעַןKe/NA/anCanaanוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵהֶםa/le/HEMto themעֲלוּa/LUgo upזֶהzethis wayבַּנֶּגֶבban/NE/gevinto the Negevוַעֲלִיתֶםva/a/li/TEMand go upאֶת־הָהָר׃et-ha/HARinto the hill country

    And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:

    וּרְאִיתֶםu/re/i/TEMand seeאֶת־הָאָרֶץet-ha/A/retsthe landמַה־הִואma-hivwhat it isוְאֶת־הָעָםve/ET-ha/AMand the peopleהַיֹּשֵׁבhay/yo/SHEVthat dwellsעָלֶיהָa/LE/haupon itהֶחָזָקhe/cha/ZAKwhether strongהוּאhuit isהֲרָפֶהha/ra/FEor weakהַמְעַטham/ATwhether fewהוּאhuthey areאִם־רָב׃im-ravor many

    And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many;

    וּמָהu/MAand whatהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landאֲשֶׁר־הוּאa/SHER-huthat theyיֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVdwellבָּהּbain itהֲטוֹבָהha/to/VAwhether goodהִואhivit isאִם־רָעָהim-ra/Aor badוּמָהu/MAand whatהֶעָרִיםhe/a/RIMthe citiesאֲשֶׁר־הוּאa/SHER-huthat theyיוֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVdwellבָּהֵנָּהba/HEN/nain themהַבְּמַחֲנִיםhab/be/ma/cha/NIMwhether in campsאִםimorבְּמִבְצָרִים׃be/miv/tsa/RIMin strongholds

    And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;

    וּמָהu/MAand whatהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landהַשְּׁמֵנָהhash/she/me/NAwhether fatהִואhivit isאִם־רָזָהim-ra/ZAor leanהֲיֵשׁ־בָּהּha/YESH-bawhether there are in itעֵץetstreesאִם־אַיִןim-A/yinor notוְהִתְחַזַּקְתֶּםve/hit/chaz/zak/TEMand be of good courageוּלְקַחְתֶּםu/le/kach/TEMand bringמִפְּרִיmip/pe/RIof the fruit ofהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landוְהַיָּמִיםve/hay/ya/MIMnow the days wereיְמֵיye/MEthe days ofבִּכּוּרֵיbik/ku/REthe first ripeעֲנָבִים׃a/na/VIMgrapes

    And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes.

    וַיַּעֲלוּvay/ya/a/LUso they went upוַיָּתֻרוּvay/ya/TU/ruand they spied outאֶת־הָאָרֶץet-ha/A/retsthe landמִמִּדְבַּר־צִןmim/Mid/BAR-tsinfrom the wilderness of Zinעַד־רְחֹבad-Re/CHOVto RehobלְבֹאLe/VOLeboחֲמָת׃Cha/MATHamath

    So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.

22. 22

    וַיַּעֲלוּvay/ya/a/LUand they went upבַנֶּגֶבVan/NE/gevinto the Negevוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameעַד־חֶבְרוֹןad-Chev/RONto Hebronוְשָׁםve/SHAMand thereאֲחִימַןA/chi/MANAhimanשֵׁשַׁיShe/SHAYSheshaiוְתַלְמַיve/Tal/MAYand Talmaiיְלִידֵיye/li/DEthe children ofהָעֲנָקHa/a/NAKAnakוְחֶבְרוֹןve/Chev/RONand HebronשֶׁבַעSHE/vasevenשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsנִבְנְתָהniv/ne/TAwas builtלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeצֹעַןTSO/anZoanמִצְרָיִם׃Mits/RA/yimof Egypt

    And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

    וַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameעַד־נַחַלad-NA/chalto the valley ofאֶשְׁכֹּלEsh/KOLEshcolוַיִּכְרְתוּvay/yikh/re/TUand cut downמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereזְמוֹרָהze/mo/RAa branchוְאֶשְׁכּוֹלve/esh/KOLand a cluster ofעֲנָבִיםa/na/VIMgrapesאֶחָדe/CHADoneוַיִּשָּׂאֻהוּvay/yis/sa/U/huand they carried itבַמּוֹטvam/MOTon a poleבִּשְׁנָיִםbish/NA/yimbetween twoוּמִן־הָרִמֹּנִיםu/MIN-ha/rim/mo/NIMand some of the pomegranatesוּמִן־הַתְּאֵנִים׃u/MIN-hat/te/e/NIMand of the figs

    And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.

    לַמָּקוֹםlam/ma/KOMthe placeהַהוּאha/HUthatקָרָאka/RAwas calledנַחַלNA/chalthe valley ofאֶשְׁכּוֹלEsh/KOLEshcolעַלalbecauseאֹדוֹתo/DOTofהָאֶשְׁכּוֹלha/esh/KOLthe clusterאֲשֶׁר־כָּרְתוּa/SHER-ka/re/TUwhich cut downמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence.

25. 25

    וַיָּשֻׁבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand they returnedמִתּוּרmit/TURfrom spying outהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landמִקֵּץmik/KETSat the end ofאַרְבָּעִיםar/ba/IMfortyיוֹם׃yomdays

    And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.

26. 26

    וַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameאֶל־מֹשֶׁהel-Mo/SHEto Mosesוְאֶל־אַהֲרֹןve/EL-a/ha/RONand to Aaronוְאֶל־כׇּל־עֲדַתve/EL-kol-a/DATand to all the congregation ofבְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלbe/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelאֶל־מִדְבַּרel-mid/BARto the wilderness ofפָּארָןPa/RANParanקָדֵשָׁהKa/DE/shato Kadeshוַיָּשִׁיבוּvay/ya/SHI/vuand brought backאֹתָםo/TAMthemדָּבָרda/VARwordוְאֶת־כׇּל־הָעֵדָהve/ET-kol-ha/e/DAand to all the congregationוַיַּרְאוּםvay/yar/UMand showed themאֶת־פְּרִיet-pe/RIthe fruit ofהָאָרֶץ׃ha/A/retsthe land

    And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.

27. 27

    וַיְסַפְּרוּ־לוֹvay/SAP/pe/ru-loand they told himוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidבָּאנוּBA/nuwe cameאֶל־הָאָרֶץel-ha/A/retsto the landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERto whichשְׁלַחְתָּנוּshe/lach/TA/nuyou sent usוְגַםve/GAMand surelyזָבַתza/VATflowing withחָלָבcha/LAVmilkוּדְבַשׁu/de/VASHand honeyהִואhivit isוְזֶה־פִּרְיָהּ׃ve/ZE-pir/YAand this is its fruit

    And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.

28. 28

    אֶפֶסE/fesneverthelessכִּי־עַזki-azstrong areהָעָםha/AMthe peopleהַיֹּשֵׁבhay/yo/SHEVthat dwellבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landוְהֶעָרִיםve/he/a/RIMand the citiesבְּצֻרוֹתbe/tsu/ROTfortifiedגְּדֹלֹתge/do/LOTgreatמְאֹדme/ODveryוְגַם־יְלִדֵיve/GAM-ye/li/DEand also the children ofהָעֲנָקHa/a/NAKAnakרָאִינוּra/I/nuwe sawשָׁם׃shamthere

    Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.

    עֲמָלֵקA/ma/LEKAmalekיוֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVdwellבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the land ofהַנֶּגֶבhan/NE/gevthe Negevוְהַחִתִּיve/ha/Chit/TIand the HittiteוְהַיְבוּסִיVe/hay/vu/SIand the Jebusiteוְהָאֱמֹרִיve/Ha/e/mo/RIand the Amoriteיוֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVdwellבָּהָרba/HARin the hill countryוְהַכְּנַעֲנִיve/hak/Ke/na/a/NIand the Canaaniteיוֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVdwellעַל־הַיָּםal-hay/YAMby the seaוְעַלve/ALand byיַדyadthe side ofהַיַּרְדֵּן׃hay/Yar/DENthe Jordan

    The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.

    וַיַּהַסvay/YA/hasand quietedכָּלֵבKa/LEVCalebאֶת־הָעָםet-ha/AMthe peopleאֶל־מֹשֶׁהel-Mo/SHEbefore Mosesוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidעָלֹהa/LOgo upנַעֲלֶהna/a/LElet us go upוְיָרַשְׁנוּve/ya/RASH/nuand possessאֹתָהּo/TAitכִּי־יָכוֹלki-ya/KHOLfor ableנוּכַלnu/KHALwe are ableלָהּ׃lato overcome it

    And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

31. 31

    וְהָאֲנָשִׁיםve/ha/a/na/SHIMand the menאֲשֶׁר־עָלוּa/SHER-a/LUwho went upעִמּוֹim/MOwith himאָמְרוּa/me/RUthey saidלֹאlonotנוּכַלnu/KHALcan weלַעֲלוֹתla/a/LOTto go upאֶל־הָעָםel-ha/AMto the peopleכִּי־חָזָקki-cha/ZAKfor strongerהוּאhuthey areמִמֶּנּוּ׃mim/MEN/nuthan we

    But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.

32. 32

    וַיֹּצִיאוּvay/yo/TSI/uand they spreadדִּבַּתdib/BATan evil report ofהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichתָּרוּta/RUthey had spied outאֹתָהּo/TAitאֶל־בְּנֵיel-be/NEto the children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichעָבַרְנוּa/VAR/nuwe have goneבָהּvathroughלָתוּרla/TURto spy outאֹתָהּo/TAitאֶרֶץE/retsa landאֹכֶלֶתo/KHE/letthat eats upיוֹשְׁבֶיהָyosh/VE/haits inhabitantsהִואhivit isוְכׇל־הָעָםve/KHOL-ha/AMand all the peopleאֲשֶׁר־רָאִינוּa/SHER-ra/I/nuthat we sawבְתוֹכָהּve/to/KHAin the midst of itאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEare men ofמִדּוֹת׃mid/DOTgreat stature

    And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

    וְשָׁםve/SHAMand thereרָאִינוּra/I/nuwe sawאֶת־הַנְּפִילִיםet-Han/ne/fi/LIMthe Nephilimבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofעֲנָקA/NAKAnakמִן־הַנְּפִלִיםmin-Han/ne/fi/LIMof the Nephilimוַנְּהִיvan/ne/HIand we wereבְעֵינֵינוּve/e/NE/nuin our own eyesכַּחֲגָבִיםka/cha/ga/VIMlike grasshoppersוְכֵןve/KHENand soהָיִינוּha/YI/nuwe wereבְּעֵינֵיהֶם׃be/e/ne/HEMin their eyes

    And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
