    וַתִּשָּׂאand lifted upכׇּל־הָעֵדָהall the congregationוַיִּתְּנוּand they gaveאֶת־קוֹלָםtheir voicesוַיִּבְכּוּand weptהָעָםthe peopleבַּלַּיְלָהin the nightהַהוּא׃that

    And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.

    וַיִּלֹּנוּand they murmuredעַל־מֹשֶׁהupon Mosesוְעַל־אַהֲרֹןand upon Aaronכֹּלallבְּנֵיthe sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוַיֹּאמְרוּand they saidאֲלֵהֶםunto themכׇּל־הָעֵדָהall the congregationלוּ־מַתְנוּif we had diedבְּאֶרֶץin the land ofמִצְרַיִםEgyptאוֹorבַּמִּדְבָּרin the wildernessהַזֶּהthisלוּ־מָתְנוּ׃if we had died

    And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!

    וְלָמָהand whyיְהֹוָהthe LORDמֵבִיאbringsאֹתָנוּusאֶל־הָאָרֶץunto the landהַזֹּאתthisלִנְפֹּלto fall uponבַּחֶרֶבwith the swordנָשֵׁינוּour womenוְטַפֵּנוּand our childrenיִהְיוּshall beלָבַזplunderהֲלוֹאis it notטוֹבbetterלָנוּfor usשׁוּבto returnמִצְרָיְמָה׃to Egypt

    And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?

    וַיֹּאמְרוּand they saidאִישׁeachאֶל־אָחִיוto his brotherנִתְּנָהlet us appointרֹאשׁa headוְנָשׁוּבָהand we will returnמִצְרָיְמָה׃to Egypt

    And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.

    וַיִּפֹּלand fellמֹשֶׁהMosesוְאַהֲרֹןand Aaronעַל־פְּנֵיהֶםupon their facesלִפְנֵיbeforeכׇּל־קְהַלall assembly ofעֲדַתcongregation ofבְּנֵיthe sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Israel

    Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

    וִיהוֹשֻׁעַand Joshuaבִּן־נוּןson of Nunוְכָלֵבand Calebבֶּן־יְפֻנֶּהson of Jephunnehמִן־הַתָּרִיםfrom the ones who spied outאֶת־הָאָרֶץthe landקָרְעוּthey toreבִּגְדֵיהֶם׃their garments

    And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:

    וַיֹּאמְרוּand they saidאֶל־כׇּל־עֲדַתto all congregation ofבְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלsons of Israelלֵאמֹרsayingהָאָרֶץthe earthאֲשֶׁרwhichעָבַרְנוּwe passedבָהּin itלָתוּרto seek outאֹתָהּitטוֹבָהgoodהָאָרֶץthe earthמְאֹדexceedinglyמְאֹד׃exceedingly

    And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.

    אִם־חָפֵץif desireבָּנוּin usיְהֹוָהthe LORDוְהֵבִיאand he will bringאֹתָנוּusאֶל־הָאָרֶץunto the landהַזֹּאתthisוּנְתָנָהּand he will give itלָנוּto usאֶרֶץthe land ofאֲשֶׁר־הִואwhich sheזָבַתflowingחָלָבmilkוּדְבָשׁ׃and honey

    If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.

    אַךְbutבַּיהֹוָהin the LORDאַל־תִּמְרֹדוּdo not rebelוְאַתֶּםand youאַל־תִּירְאוּfear notאֶת־עַםpeople ofהָאָרֶץthe earthכִּיbecauseלַחְמֵנוּour own breadהֵםtheyסָרdepartedצִלָּםtheir shadeמֵעֲלֵיהֶםfrom off themוַיהֹוָהand the LORDאִתָּנוּwith usאַל־תִּירָאֻם׃do not fear them

    Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.

    וַיֹּאמְרוּand they saidכׇּל־הָעֵדָהall the congregationלִרְגּוֹםto stoneאֹתָםthemבָּאֲבָנִיםthe stonesוּכְבוֹדand glory ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDנִרְאָהappearedבְּאֹהֶלin the tent ofמוֹעֵדthe congregationאֶל־כׇּל־בְּנֵיto all sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Israel

    But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶל־מֹשֶׁהto Mosesעַד־אָנָהuntil whitherיְנַאֲצֻנִיwill they spurn meהָעָםthe peopleהַזֶּהthisוְעַד־אָנָהand unto whitherלֹא־יַאֲמִינוּdo not believeבִיin Meבְּכֹלin allהָאֹתוֹתthe signsאֲשֶׁרwhichעָשִׂיתִיI madeבְּקִרְבּוֹ׃in the midst of him

    And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?

  12. 12

    אַכֶּנּוּI will strike itבַדֶּבֶרwith the pestilenceוְאוֹרִשֶׁנּוּand I will dispossess itוְאֶעֱשֶׂהand doאֹתְךָyouלְגוֹי־גָּדוֹלunto one nation greatוְעָצוּםand mightyמִמֶּנּוּ׃than they

    I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidמֹשֶׁהMosesאֶל־יְהֹוָהto the LORDוְשָׁמְעוּand they heardמִצְרַיִםEgyptכִּי־הֶעֱלִיתָbecause you have brought upבְכֹחֲךָby your strengthאֶת־הָעָםthe peopleהַזֶּהthisמִקִּרְבּוֹ׃from its midst

    And Moses said unto the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;)

  14. 14

    וְאָמְרוּshall sayאֶל־יוֹשֵׁבto the inhabitant ofהָאָרֶץthe earthהַזֹּאתthisשָׁמְעוּthey heardכִּי־אַתָּהthat youיְהֹוָהthe LORDבְּקֶרֶבamongהָעָםthe peopleהַזֶּהthisאֲשֶׁר־עַיִןthat eyeבְּעַיִןto eyeנִרְאָהappearedאַתָּהyouיְהֹוָהthe LORDוַעֲנָנְךָand your cloudעֹמֵדstandingעֲלֵהֶםon themוּבְעַמֻּדand in a pillar ofעָנָןa cloudאַתָּהyouהֹלֵךְgoingלִפְנֵיהֶםbefore themיוֹמָםby dayוּבְעַמּוּדand in a pillar ofאֵשׁfireלָיְלָה׃night

    And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou LORD art among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.

    וְהֵמַתָּהand you will put to deathאֶת־הָעָםthe peopleהַזֶּהthisכְּאִישׁas a manאֶחָדoneוְאָמְרוּshall sayהַגּוֹיִםthe nationsאֲשֶׁר־שָׁמְעוּwhich they heardאֶת־שִׁמְעֲךָyour reportלֵאמֹר׃saying

    Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,

    מִבִּלְתִּיbecause was notיְכֹלֶתthe ability ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDלְהָבִיאto bring aboutאֶת־הָעָםthe peopleהַזֶּהthisאֶל־הָאָרֶץunto the landאֲשֶׁר־נִשְׁבַּעwhich sworeלָהֶםto themוַיִּשְׁחָטֵםand he has slaughtered themבַּמִּדְבָּר׃in the wilderness

    Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.

  17. 17

    וְעַתָּהand nowיִגְדַּל־נָאlet be great I prayכֹּחַpowerאֲדֹנָיLordכַּאֲשֶׁרasדִּבַּרְתָּyou have spokenלֵאמֹר׃saying

    And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,

  18. 18

    יְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶרֶךְlong ofאַפַּיִםof nostrilsוְרַב־חֶסֶדand great mercyנֹשֵׂאbearingעָוֺןiniquityוָפָשַׁעand transgressionוְנַקֵּהand surelyלֹאnotיְנַקֶּהhold him guiltlessפֹּקֵדvisitingעֲוֺןthe iniquity ofאָבוֹתthe fathersעַל־בָּנִיםupon sonsעַל־שִׁלֵּשִׁיםupon the thirdוְעַל־רִבֵּעִים׃and fourth generation

    The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.

    סְלַח־נָאforgive I prayלַעֲוֺןto the iniquity ofהָעָםthe peopleהַזֶּהthisכְּגֹדֶלaccording to the greatness ofחַסְדֶּךָyour lovingkindnessוְכַאֲשֶׁרand asנָשָׂאתָהyou have forgivenלָעָםto the peopleהַזֶּהthisמִמִּצְרַיִםout of Egyptוְעַד־הֵנָּה׃and unto hither

    Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.

  20. 20

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidיְהֹוָהthe LORDסָלַחְתִּיI have forgivenכִּדְבָרֶךָ׃according to your word

    And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word:

  21. 21

    וְאוּלָםneverthelessחַי־אָנִיas I liveוְיִמָּלֵאand shall be filledכְבוֹד־יְהֹוָהthe glory of the LORDאֶת־כׇּל־הָאָרֶץ׃all the earth

    But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.

  22. 22

    כִּיbecauseכׇל־הָאֲנָשִׁיםall the menהָרֹאִיםthose who sawאֶת־כְּבֹדִיmy honorוְאֶת־אֹתֹתַיand my signsאֲשֶׁר־עָשִׂיתִיwhich I madeבְמִצְרַיִםin Egyptוּבַמִּדְבָּרand in the wildernessוַיְנַסּוּand they have put to the testאֹתִיmeזֶהthisעֶשֶׂרtenפְּעָמִיםtimesוְלֹאand notשָׁמְעוּthey heardבְּקוֹלִי׃My voice

    Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

  23. 23

    אִם־יִרְאוּif shall seeאֶת־הָאָרֶץthe landאֲשֶׁרwhichנִשְׁבַּעְתִּיI sworeלַאֲבֹתָםto their ancestorsוְכׇל־מְנַאֲצַיand all those who have spurned meלֹאnotיִרְאוּהָ׃they will see it

    Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:

  24. 24

    וְעַבְדִּיand my servantכָלֵבCalebעֵקֶבbecauseהָיְתָהwasרוּחַthe spirit ofאַחֶרֶתanotherעִמּוֹwith himוַיְמַלֵּאand he fully followedאַחֲרָיafter meוַהֲבִיאֹתִיוand I will bring himאֶל־הָאָרֶץunto the landאֲשֶׁר־בָּאwhich cameשָׁמָּהthereוְזַרְעוֹand his seedיוֹרִשֶׁנָּה׃it will take possession of it

    But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

  25. 25

    וְהָעֲמָלֵקִיand the Amalekiteוְהַכְּנַעֲנִיand the Canaaniteיוֹשֵׁבdwellingבָּעֵמֶקin the valleyמָחָרon the morrowפְּנוּturnוּסְעוּand set outלָכֶםto youהַמִּדְבָּרthe wildernessדֶּרֶךְthe way ofיַם־סוּף׃the Red Sea

    (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) To morrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

  26. 26

    וַיְדַבֵּרand spokeיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶל־מֹשֶׁהto Mosesוְאֶל־אַהֲרֹןand Aaronלֵאמֹר׃saying

    And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

  27. 27

    עַד־מָתַיuntil whenלָעֵדָהto the congregationהָרָעָהthe evilהַזֹּאתthisאֲשֶׁרwhichהֵמָּהtheyמַלִּינִיםmurmurעָלָיagainst meאֶת־תְּלֻנּוֹתcomplaintsבְּנֵיthe sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelאֲשֶׁרwhichהֵמָּהtheyמַלִּינִיםmurmurעָלַיagainst meשָׁמָעְתִּי׃I have heard

    How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.

  28. 28

    אֱמֹרsayאֲלֵהֶםunto themחַי־אָנִיas I liveנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהsays the LORDאִם־לֹאif notכַּאֲשֶׁרasדִּבַּרְתֶּםyou have spokenבְּאׇזְנָיin my earsכֵּןthusאֶעֱשֶׂהI doלָכֶם׃to you

    Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:

  29. 29

    בַּמִּדְבָּרin the wildernessהַזֶּהthisיִפְּלוּshall fallפִגְרֵיכֶםyour corpsesוְכׇל־פְּקֻדֵיכֶםand all your enrolled menלְכׇל־מִסְפַּרְכֶםto all your numberמִבֶּןfrom a son ofעֶשְׂרִיםtwentyשָׁנָהyearsוָמָעְלָהand upwardsאֲשֶׁרwhichהֲלִינֹתֶםyou have grumbledעָלָי׃against me

    Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me,

  30. 30

    אִם־אַתֶּםif you areתָּבֹאוּshould enterאֶל־הָאָרֶץunto the landאֲשֶׁרwhichנָשָׂאתִיI lifted upאֶת־יָדִיmy handלְשַׁכֵּןto cause to dwellאֶתְכֶםyouבָּהּin itכִּיbutאִם־כָּלֵבif Calebבֶּן־יְפֻנֶּהson of Jephunnehוִיהוֹשֻׁעַand Joshuaבִּן־נוּן׃son of Nun

    Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

    וְטַפְּכֶםand your little childrenאֲשֶׁרwhichאֲמַרְתֶּםyou have saidלָבַזplunderיִהְיֶהshall beוְהֵבֵיאתִיand I will bringאֹתָםthemוְיָדְעוּand they shall knowאֶת־הָאָרֶץthe landאֲשֶׁרwhichמְאַסְתֶּםyou rejectedבָּהּ׃in it

    But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.

  32. 32

    וּפִגְרֵיכֶםand your corpsesאַתֶּםyou areיִפְּלוּshall fallבַּמִּדְבָּרin the wildernessהַזֶּה׃this

    But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.

  33. 33

    וּבְנֵיכֶםand your sonsיִהְיוּshall beרֹעִיםpasturingבַּמִּדְבָּרin the wildernessאַרְבָּעִיםfortyשָׁנָהyearsוְנָשְׂאוּand they will bearאֶת־זְנוּתֵיכֶםyour prostitutionעַד־תֹּםuntil the endפִּגְרֵיכֶםyour corpsesבַּמִּדְבָּר׃in the wilderness

    And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.

    בְּמִסְפַּרin the number ofהַיָּמִיםthe daysאֲשֶׁר־תַּרְתֶּםwhich you spied outאֶת־הָאָרֶץthe landאַרְבָּעִיםfortyיוֹםdayיוֹםdayלַשָּׁנָהfor the yearיוֹםdayלַשָּׁנָהfor the yearתִּשְׂאוּyou shall bearאֶת־עֲוֺנֹתֵיכֶםyour iniquitiesאַרְבָּעִיםfortyשָׁנָהyearsוִידַעְתֶּםand you shall knowאֶת־תְּנוּאָתִי׃my opposition

    After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.

    אֲנִיIיְהֹוָהthe LORDדִּבַּרְתִּיI have spokenאִם־לֹאif notזֹאתthisאֶעֱשֶׂהI doלְכׇל־הָעֵדָהto all the congregationהָרָעָהthe evilהַזֹּאתthisהַנּוֹעָדִיםthe ones who have gatheredעָלָיagainst meבַּמִּדְבָּרin the wildernessהַזֶּהthisיִתַּמּוּthey shall be consumedוְשָׁםand thereיָמֻתוּ׃they will die

    I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

  36. 36

    וְהָאֲנָשִׁיםand the menאֲשֶׁר־שָׁלַחwhich sentמֹשֶׁהMosesלָתוּרto seek outאֶת־הָאָרֶץthe landוַיָּשֻׁבוּand they returned(וילונו)[וַיַּלִּינוּ]and they made to murmurעָלָיוupon himאֶת־כׇּל־הָעֵדָהall the congregationלְהוֹצִיאto bring outדִבָּהa bad reportעַל־הָאָרֶץ׃upon the land

    And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,

  37. 37

    וַיָּמֻתוּand diedהָאֲנָשִׁיםthe menמוֹצִאֵיwho brought outדִבַּת־הָאָרֶץthe unfavorable report of the earthרָעָהevilבַּמַּגֵּפָהby the plagueלִפְנֵיbeforeיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

    Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.

  38. 38

    וִיהוֹשֻׁעַand Joshuaבִּן־נוּןson of Nunוְכָלֵבand Calebבֶּן־יְפֻנֶּהson of Jephunnehחָיוּlivedמִן־הָאֲנָשִׁיםfrom the menהָהֵםthoseהַהֹלְכִיםthe ones walkingלָתוּרto seek outאֶת־הָאָרֶץ׃the land

    But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.

  39. 39

    וַיְדַבֵּרand spokeמֹשֶׁהMosesאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהtheseאֶל־כׇּל־בְּנֵיto all sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוַיִּתְאַבְּלוּand mournedהָעָםthe peopleמְאֹד׃exceedingly

    And Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.

  40. 40

    וַיַּשְׁכִּמוּand they rose earlyבַבֹּקֶרin the morningוַיַּעֲלוּand they ascendedאֶל־רֹאשׁ־הָהָרto the head of the mountainלֵאמֹרsayingהִנֶּנּוּhere weוְעָלִינוּand we will go upאֶל־הַמָּקוֹםunto the placeאֲשֶׁר־אָמַרwhich saidיְהֹוָהthe LORDכִּיforחָטָאנוּ׃we have sinned

    And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have sinned.

  41. 41

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidמֹשֶׁהMosesלָמָּהwhyזֶּהthisאַתֶּםyou areעֹבְרִיםpassingאֶת־פִּיthe commandment ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDוְהִואand itלֹאnotתִצְלָח׃it will succeed

    And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the LORD? but it shall not prosper.

  42. 42

    אַל־תַּעֲלוּdo not go upכִּיforאֵיןthere is noיְהֹוָהthe LORDבְּקִרְבְּכֶםamong youוְלֹאand notתִּנָּגְפוּyou will be defeatedלִפְנֵיbeforeאֹיְבֵיכֶם׃your enemies

    Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies.

  43. 43

    כִּיbecauseהָעֲמָלֵקִיthe Amalekiteוְהַכְּנַעֲנִיand the Canaaniteשָׁםthereלִפְנֵיכֶםbefore youוּנְפַלְתֶּםand you will fallבֶּחָרֶבby the swordכִּי־עַל־כֵּןbecause thereforeשַׁבְתֶּםyou returnedמֵאַחֲרֵיfrom afterיְהֹוָהthe LORDוְלֹא־יִהְיֶהand shall have no moreיְהֹוָהthe LORDעִמָּכֶם׃with you

    For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.

  44. 44

    וַיַּעְפִּלוּand they presumedלַעֲלוֹתto ascendאֶל־רֹאשׁto the head ofהָהָרthe mountainוַאֲרוֹןand the ark ofבְּרִית־יְהֹוָהcovenant of the LORDוּמֹשֶׁהand Mosesלֹא־מָשׁוּnot they departedמִקֶּרֶבfrom the midst ofהַמַּחֲנֶה׃the camp

    But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.

  45. 45

    וַיֵּרֶדand he descendedהָעֲמָלֵקִיthe Amalekiteוְהַכְּנַעֲנִיand the Canaaniteהַיֹּשֵׁבthe one dwellingבָּהָרin the mountainהַהוּאthatוַיַּכּוּםand they smote themוַיַּכְּתוּםand they beat them downעַד־הַחׇרְמָה׃until Hormah

    Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah.
