Nehemiah 8 נְחֶמְיָה פרק ח׳

   And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.

2. 2

   וַיָּבִיאvay/ya/VIand he broughtעֶזְרָאEz/RAEzraהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestאֶת־הַתּוֹרָהet-hat/to/RAthe lawלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַקָּהָלhak/ka/HALthe assemblyמֵאִישׁme/ISHboth menוְעַד־אִשָּׁהve/AD-ish/SHAand womenוְכֹלve/KHOLand allמֵבִיןme/VINwho could understandלִשְׁמֹעַlish/MO/ahearingבְּיוֹםbe/YOMon dayאֶחָדe/CHADoneלַחֹדֶשׁla/CHO/deshof the monthהַשְּׁבִיעִי׃hash/she/vi/Ithe seventh

   And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.

   וַיִּקְרָא־בוֹvay/yik/RA-voand he read in itלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהָרְחוֹבha/re/CHOVthe squareאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat wasלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeשַׁעַר־הַמַּיִםSHA/ar-ham/MA/yimthe gate of the waterמִן־הָאוֹרmin-ha/ORfrom the lightעַד־מַחֲצִיתad-ma/cha/TSITuntil the middle ofהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayנֶגֶדNE/gedbeforeהָאֲנָשִׁיםha/a/na/SHIMthe menוְהַנָּשִׁיםve/han/na/SHIMand the womenוְהַמְּבִינִיםve/ham/me/vi/NIMand those who could understandוְאׇזְנֵיve/oz/NEand the ears ofכׇל־הָעָםkhol-ha/AMall the peopleאֶל־סֵפֶרel-SE/ferto the book ofהַתּוֹרָה׃hat/to/RAthe law

   And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.

   And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.

   וַיִּפְתַּחvay/yif/TACHand he openedעֶזְרָאEz/RAEzraהַסֵּפֶרhas/SE/ferthe bookלְעֵינֵיle/e/NEin the sight ofכׇל־הָעָםkhol-ha/AMall the peopleכִּי־מֵעַלki-me/ALfor aboveכׇּל־הָעָםkol-ha/AMall the peopleהָיָהha/YAhe wasוּכְפִתְחוֹu/khe/fit/CHOand when he opened itעָמְדוּa/me/DUstoodכׇל־הָעָם׃khol-ha/AMall the people

   And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:

   וַיְבָרֶךְvay/VA/rekhand blessedעֶזְרָאEz/RAEzraאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLgreatוַיַּעֲנוּvay/ya/a/NUand they answeredכׇל־הָעָםkhol-ha/AMall the peopleאָמֵןa/MENamenאָמֵןa/MENamenבְּמֹעַלbe/MO/allifting upיְדֵיהֶםye/de/HEMtheir handsוַיִּקְּדוּvay/yik/ke/DUand they bowedוַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּvay/yish/ta/cha/VUand they worshipedלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito the LORDאַפַּיִםap/PA/yimtheir facesאָרְצָה׃AR/tsato the ground

   And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the LORD with their faces to the ground.

   Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place.

   וַיִּקְרְאוּvay/yik/re/Uso they readבַסֵּפֶרvas/SE/ferin the bookבְּתוֹרַתbe/to/RATin the law ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodמְפֹרָשׁme/fo/RASHdistinctlyוְשׂוֹםve/SOMand gaveשֶׂכֶלSE/khelthe senseוַיָּבִינוּvay/ya/VI/nuand they understoodבַּמִּקְרָא׃bam/mik/RAthe reading

   So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidנְחֶמְיָהNe/chem/YANehemiahהוּאhuwho wasהַתִּרְשָׁתָאhat/tir/SHA/tathe governorוְעֶזְרָאve/Ez/RAand Ezraהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestהַסֹּפֵרhas/so/FERthe scribeוְהַלְוִיִּםVe/hal/viy/YIMand the Levitesהַמְּבִינִיםham/me/vi/NIMwho taughtאֶת־הָעָםet-ha/AMthe peopleלְכׇל־הָעָםle/KHOL-ha/AMto all the peopleהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthis dayקָדֹשׁ־הוּאka/DOSH-huis holyלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito the LORDאֱלֹהֵיכֶםe/lo/he/KHEMyour Godאַל־תִּתְאַבְּלוּal-tit/ab/be/LUdo not mournוְאַל־תִּבְכּוּve/AL-tiv/KUand do not weepכִּיkiforבוֹכִיםvo/KHIMweptכׇּל־הָעָםkol-ha/AMall the peopleכְּשׇׁמְעָםke/shom/AMwhen they heardאֶת־דִּבְרֵיet-div/REthe words ofהַתּוֹרָה׃hat/to/RAthe law

   And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the LORD your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.

10. 10

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָהֶםla/HEMto themלְכוּle/KHUgoאִכְלוּikh/LUeatמַשְׁמַנִּיםmash/man/NIMthe fatוּשְׁתוּu/she/TUand drinkמַמְתַקִּיםmam/tak/KIMthe sweetוְשִׁלְחוּve/shil/CHUand sendמָנוֹתma/NOTportionsלְאֵיןle/ENto him who has nothingנָכוֹןna/KHONpreparedלוֹlofor himכִּי־קָדוֹשׁki-ka/DOSHfor holy isהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayלַאֲדֹנֵינוּla/a/do/NE/nuto our Lordוְאַל־תֵּעָצֵבוּve/AL-te/a/TSE/vuand do not be grievedכִּי־חֶדְוַתki-ched/VATfor the joy ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהִיאhiisמָעֻזְּכֶם׃ma/uz/ze/KHEMyour strength

    Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

11. 11

    וְהַלְוִיִּםVe/hal/viy/YIMand the Levitesמַחְשִׁיםmach/SHIMquietedלְכׇל־הָעָםle/KHOL-ha/AMall the peopleלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהַסּוּHAS/sube stillכִּיkiforהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe day isקָדֹשׁka/DOSHholyוְאַל־תֵּעָצֵבוּ׃ve/AL-te/a/TSE/vuand do not be grieved

    So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be ye grieved.

12. 12

    וַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentכׇל־הָעָםkhol-ha/AMall the peopleלֶאֱכֹלle/e/KHOLto eatוְלִשְׁתּוֹתve/lish/TOTand to drinkוּלְשַׁלַּחu/le/shal/LACHand to sendמָנוֹתma/NOTportionsוְלַעֲשׂוֹתve/la/a/SOTand to makeשִׂמְחָהsim/CHAjoyגְדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatכִּיkibecauseהֵבִינוּhe/VI/nuthey had understoodבַּדְּבָרִיםbad/de/va/RIMthe wordsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatהוֹדִיעוּho/DI/uwere declaredלָהֶם׃la/HEMto them

    And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them.

13. 13

    וּבַיּוֹםu/vay/YOMand on the dayהַשֵּׁנִיhash/she/NIthe secondנֶאֶסְפוּne/es/FUwere gatheredרָאשֵׁיra/SHEthe heads ofהָאָבוֹתha/a/VOTthe fathersלְכׇל־הָעָםle/KHOL-ha/AMof all the peopleהַכֹּהֲנִיםhak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsוְהַלְוִיִּםVe/hal/viy/YIMand the Levitesאֶל־עֶזְרָאel-Ez/RAto Ezraהַסֹּפֵרhas/so/FERthe scribeוּלְהַשְׂכִּילu/le/has/KILeven to understandאֶל־דִּבְרֵיel-div/REto the words ofהַתּוֹרָה׃hat/to/RAthe law

    And on the second day were gathered together the chief of the fathers of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, unto Ezra the scribe, even to understand the words of the law.

14. 14

    וַיִּמְצְאוּvay/yim/tse/Uand they foundכָּתוּבka/TUVwrittenבַּתּוֹרָהbat/to/RAin the lawאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatצִוָּהtsiv/VAcommandedיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבְּיַד־מֹשֶׁהbe/YAD-mo/SHEby the hand of Mosesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיֵשְׁבוּyesh/VUshould dwellבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelבַּסֻּכּוֹתbas/suk/KOTin the boothsבֶּחָגbe/CHAGat the feastבַּחֹדֶשׁba/CHO/deshin the monthהַשְּׁבִיעִי׃hash/she/vi/Ithe seventh

    And they found written in the law which the LORD had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month:

15. 15

    וַאֲשֶׁרva/a/SHERand thatיַשְׁמִיעוּyash/MI/uthey should proclaimוְיַעֲבִירוּve/ya/a/VI/ruand make passקוֹלkola proclamationבְּכׇל־עָרֵיהֶםbe/KHOL-a/re/HEMin all their citiesוּבִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםu/Vi/ru/sha/LA/yimand in Jerusalemלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingצְאוּtse/Ugo outהָהָרha/HARto the mountainוְהָבִיאוּve/ha/VI/uand bringעֲלֵי־זַיִתa/LE-ZA/yitolive branchesוַעֲלֵי־עֵץva/a/LE-etsand branches of tree ofשֶׁמֶןSHE/menoilוַעֲלֵיva/a/LEand branches ofהֲדַסha/DASmyrtleוַעֲלֵיva/a/LEand branches ofתְמָרִיםte/ma/RIMpalm treesוַעֲלֵיva/a/LEand branches ofעֵץetstreesעָבֹתa/VOTthickלַעֲשֹׂתla/a/SOTto makeסֻכֹּתsuk/KOTboothsכַּכָּתוּב׃kak/ka/TUVas it is written

    And that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, Go forth unto the mount, and fetch olive branches, and pine branches, and myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written.

    וַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uso went outהָעָםha/AMthe peopleוַיָּבִיאוּvay/ya/VI/uand broughtוַיַּעֲשׂוּvay/ya/a/SUand madeלָהֶםla/HEMfor themselvesסֻכּוֹתsuk/KOTboothsאִישׁisheachעַל־גַּגּוֹal-gag/GOon his roofוּבְחַצְרֹתֵיהֶםu/ve/chats/ro/te/HEMand in their courtsוּבְחַצְרוֹתu/ve/chats/ROTand in the courts ofבֵּיתbetthe house ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodוּבִרְחוֹבu/vir/CHOVand in the square ofשַׁעַרSHA/arthe gate ofהַמַּיִםham/MA/yimthe waterוּבִרְחוֹבu/vir/CHOVand in the square ofשַׁעַרSHA/arthe gate ofאֶפְרָיִם׃Ef/RA/yimEphraim

    So the people went forth, and brought them, and made themselves booths, every one upon the roof of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the street of the water gate, and in the street of the gate of Ephraim.

    וַיַּעֲשׂוּvay/ya/a/SUand madeכׇל־הַקָּהָלkhol-hak/ka/HALall the assemblyהַשָּׁבִיםhash/sha/VIMwho had returnedמִן־הַשְּׁבִיmin-hash/she/VIfrom the captivityסֻכּוֹתsuk/KOTboothsוַיֵּשְׁבוּvay/yesh/VUand dweltבַסֻּכּוֹתvas/suk/KOTin the boothsכִּיkiforלֹא־עָשׂוּlo-a/SUhad not doneמִימֵיMI/mefrom the days ofיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJeshuaבִּן־נוּןbin-Nunthe son of Nunכֵּןkensoבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelעַדaduntilהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayהַהוּאha/HUthatוַתְּהִיvat/te/HIand there wasשִׂמְחָהsim/CHAjoyגְּדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatמְאֹד׃me/ODvery

    And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the captivity made booths, and sat under the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the son of Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great gladness.

    וַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand he readבְּסֵפֶרbe/SE/ferin the book ofתּוֹרַתto/RATthe law ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodיוֹםyomdayבְּיוֹםbe/YOMby dayמִן־הַיּוֹםmin-hay/YOMfrom the dayהָרִאשׁוֹןha/ri/SHONthe firstעַדadtoהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayהָאַחֲרוֹןha/a/cha/RONthe lastוַיַּעֲשׂוּ־חָגvay/ya/a/SU-chagand they kept the feastשִׁבְעַתshiv/ATsevenיָמִיםya/MIMdaysוּבַיּוֹםu/vay/YOMand on the dayהַשְּׁמִינִיhash/she/mi/NIthe eighthעֲצֶרֶתa/TSE/reta solemn assemblyכַּמִּשְׁפָּט׃kam/mish/PATaccording to the ordinance

    Also day by day, from the first day unto the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according unto the manner.
