Nehemiah 6 נְחֶמְיָה פרק ו׳

   Now it came to pass, when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein; (though at that time I had not set up the doors upon the gates;)

   וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentסַנְבַלַּטSan/val/LATSanballatוְגֶשֶׁםve/GE/shemand Geshemאֵלַיe/LAYto meלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingלְכָהle/KHAcomeוְנִוָּעֲדָהve/niv/va/a/DAlet us meetיַחְדָּוyach/DAVtogetherבַּכְּפִירִיםbak/ke/fi/RIMin the villagesבְּבִקְעַתbe/vik/ATin the valley ofאוֹנוֹO/NOOnoוְהֵמָּהve/HEM/mabut theyחֹשְׁבִיםchosh/VIMthoughtלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doלִיlito meרָעָה׃ra/Aevil

   That Sanballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying, Come, let us meet together in some one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief.

   וָאֶשְׁלְחָהva/esh/le/CHAso I sentעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themמַלְאָכִיםmal/a/KHIMmessengersלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingמְלָאכָהme/la/KHAa workגְדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatאֲנִיa/NIIעֹשֶׂהo/SEam doingוְלֹאve/LOand notאוּכַלu/KHALcanלָרֶדֶתla/RE/detcome downלָמָּהLAM/mawhy shouldתִשְׁבַּתtish/BATceaseהַמְּלָאכָהham/me/la/KHAthe taskכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhileאַרְפֶּהָar/PE/haI leave itוְיָרַדְתִּיve/ya/rad/TIand come downאֲלֵיכֶם׃a/le/KHEMto you

   And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?

   וַיִּשְׁלְחוּvay/yish/le/CHUand sentאֵלַיe/LAYto meכַּדָּבָרkad/da/VARaccording to the wordהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאַרְבַּעar/BAfourפְּעָמִיםpe/a/MIMtimesוָאָשִׁיבva/a/SHIVand I answeredאוֹתָםo/TAMthemכַּדָּבָרkad/da/VARin the same wayהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

   Yet they sent unto me four times after this sort; and I answered them after the same manner.

   וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentאֵלַיe/LAYto meסַנְבַלַּטSan/val/LATSanballatכַּדָּבָרkad/da/VARaccording to the wordהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisפַּעַםPA/amtimeחֲמִישִׁיתcha/mi/SHITfifthאֶת־נַעֲרוֹet-na/a/ROhis servantוְאִגֶּרֶתve/ig/GE/retwith a letterפְּתוּחָהpe/tu/CHAopenבְּיָדוֹ׃be/ya/DOin his hand

   Then sent Sanballat his servant unto me in like manner the fifth time with an open letter in his hand;

   כָּתוּבka/TUVwrittenבָּהּbain itבַּגּוֹיִםbag/go/YIMamong the nationsנִשְׁמָעnish/MAit is reportedוְגַשְׁמוּve/Gash/MUand Gashmuאֹמֵרo/MERsaysאַתָּהat/TAthat youוְהַיְּהוּדִיםve/hay/Ye/hu/DIMand the Jewsחֹשְׁבִיםchosh/VIMplanלִמְרוֹדlim/RODto rebelעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeאַתָּהat/TAyouבוֹנֶהvo/NEare buildingהַחוֹמָהha/cho/MAthe wallוְאַתָּהve/at/TAand youהֹוֶהho/VEwould beלָהֶםla/HEMto themלְמֶלֶךְle/ME/lekha kingכַּדְּבָרִיםkad/de/va/RIMaccording to the wordsהָאֵלֶּה׃ha/EL/lethese

   Wherein was written, It is reported among the heathen, and Gashmu saith it, that thou and the Jews think to rebel: for which cause thou buildest the wall, that thou mayest be their king, according to these words.

   וְגַם־נְבִיאִיםve/GAM-ne/vi/IMand also prophetsהֶעֱמַדְתָּhe/e/MAD/tayou have appointedלִקְרֹאlik/ROto proclaimעָלֶיךָa/LE/khaof youבִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםVi/ru/sha/LA/yimin Jerusalemלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingמֶלֶךְME/lekhthere is a kingבִּיהוּדָהbI/hu/DAin Judahוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowיִשָּׁמַעyish/sha/MAit will be reportedלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhto the kingכַּדְּבָרִיםkad/de/va/RIMaccording to the wordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowלְכָהle/KHAcomeוְנִוָּעֲצָהve/niv/va/a/TSAand let us take counselיַחְדָּו׃yach/DAVtogether

   And thou hast also appointed prophets to preach of thee at Jerusalem, saying, There is a king in Judah: and now shall it be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let us take counsel together.

8. 8

   וָאֶשְׁלְחָהva/esh/le/CHAthen I sentאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingלֹאlonotנִהְיָהnih/YAhave been doneכַּדְּבָרִיםkad/de/va/RIMaccording to the wordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאַתָּהat/TAyouאוֹמֵרo/MERsayכִּיkibutמִלִּבְּךָmil/lib/be/KHAout of your own heartאַתָּהat/TAyouבוֹדָאם׃vo/DAMare inventing them

   Then I sent unto him, saying, There are no such things done as thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thine own heart.

9. 9

   כִּיkiforכֻלָּםkhul/LAMall of themמְיָרְאִיםme/ya/re/IMwere trying to make afraidאוֹתָנוּo/TA/nuusלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingיִרְפּוּyir/PUwill be weakenedיְדֵיהֶםye/de/HEMtheir handsמִן־הַמְּלָאכָהmin-ham/me/la/KHAfrom the taskוְלֹאve/LOand notתֵעָשֶׂהte/a/SEit will be doneוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowחַזֵּקchaz/ZEKstrengthenאֶת־יָדָי׃et-ya/DAYmy hands

   For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.

    וַאֲנִי־בָאתִיva/a/NI-VA/tiand I cameבֵּיתbetto the house ofשְׁמַעְיָהShe/ma/YAShemaiahבֶן־דְּלָיָהven-De/la/YAthe son of Delaiahבֶּן־מְהֵיטַבְאֵלben-Me/he/tav/ELthe son of Mehetabelוְהוּאve/HUand heעָצוּרa/TSURwas shut inוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidנִוָּעֵדniv/va/EDlet us meetאֶל־בֵּיתel-betat the house ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodאֶל־תּוֹךְel-tokhwithinהַהֵיכָלha/he/KHALthe templeוְנִסְגְּרָהve/nis/ge/RAand let us closeדַּלְתוֹתdal/TOTthe doors ofהַהֵיכָלha/he/KHALthe templeכִּיkiforבָּאִיםba/IMthey are comingלְהׇרְגֶךָle/hor/GE/khato kill youוְלַיְלָהve/LAY/laand by nightבָּאִיםba/IMthey are comingלְהׇרְגֶךָ׃le/hor/GE/khato kill you

    Afterward I came unto the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabeel, who was shut up; and he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple: for they will come to slay thee; yea, in the night will they come to slay thee.

11. 11

    וָאֹמְרָהva/om/RAand I saidהַאִישׁha/ISHshould a manכָּמוֹנִיka/MO/nisuch as Iיִבְרָחyiv/RACHwill he fleeוּמִיu/MIand whoכָמוֹנִיkha/MO/nilike meאֲשֶׁר־יָבֹאa/SHER-ya/VOthat would goאֶל־הַהֵיכָלel-ha/he/KHALto the templeוָחָיva/CHAYand liveלֹאlonotאָבוֹא׃a/VOwill go in

    And I said, Should such a man as I flee? and who is there, that, being as I am, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.

12. 12

    וָאַכִּירָהva/ak/KI/raand I perceivedוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdלֹא־אֱלֹהִיםlo-e/lo/HIMGod had notשְׁלָחוֹshe/la/CHOsent himכִּיkibutהַנְּבוּאָהhan/ne/vu/Athis prophecyדִּבֶּרdib/BERhe pronouncedעָלַיa/LAYagainst meוְטוֹבִיָּהve/To/viy/YAand Tobiahוְסַנְבַלַּטve/San/val/LATand Sanballatשְׂכָרוֹ׃se/kha/ROhad hired him

    And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.

13. 13

    לְמַעַןle/MA/anfor this reasonשָׂכוּרsa/KHURhiredהוּאhuwas heלְמַעַן־אִירָאle/MA/an-i/RAthat I should be afraidוְאֶעֱשֶׂה־כֵּןve/e/e/SE-kenand do soוְחָטָאתִיve/cha/TA/tiand sinוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand that they might haveלָהֶםla/HEMthemלְשֵׁםle/SHEMfor a reportרָעraevilלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיְחָרְפוּנִי׃ye/cha/re/FU/nithey may reproach me

    Therefore was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.

14. 14

    זׇכְרָהzokh/RArememberאֱלֹהַיe/lo/HAYO my GodלְטוֹבִיָּהLe/to/viy/YATobiahוּלְסַנְבַלַּטu/Le/san/val/LATand Sanballatכְּמַעֲשָׂיוke/ma/a/SAYVaccording to these works of hisאֵלֶּהEL/letheseוְגַםve/GAMand alsoלְנוֹעַדְיָהLe/no/ad/YANoadiahהַנְּבִיאָהhan/ne/vi/Athe prophetessוּלְיֶתֶרu/le/YE/terand the rest ofהַנְּבִיאִיםhan/ne/vi/IMthe prophetsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהָיוּha/YUwereמְיָרְאִיםme/ya/re/IMwould have made afraidאוֹתִי׃o/TIme

    My God, think thou upon Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and on the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear.

15. 15

    וַתִּשְׁלַםvat/tish/LAMso was finishedהַחוֹמָהha/cho/MAthe wallבְּעֶשְׂרִיםbe/es/RIMon the twentyוַחֲמִשָּׁהva/cha/mish/SHAand fiveלֶאֱלוּלLe/e/LULof the month Elulלַחֲמִשִּׁיםla/cha/mish/SHIMin fiftyוּשְׁנַיִםu/she/NA/yimand twoיוֹם׃yomdays

    So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days.

16. 16

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenשָׁמְעוּsha/me/Uthey heardכׇּל־אוֹיְבֵינוּkol-oy/VE/nuall our enemiesוַיִּרְאוּvay/yir/Uand fearedכׇּל־הַגּוֹיִםkol-hag/go/YIMall the nationsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat wereסְבִיבֹתֵינוּse/vi/vo/TE/nuaround usוַיִּפְּלוּvay/yip/pe/LUand they fellמְאֹדme/ODgreatlyבְּעֵינֵיהֶםbe/e/ne/HEMin their own eyesוַיֵּדְעוּvay/yed/Uand they knewכִּיkithatמֵאֵתme/ETbyאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuour Godנֶעֶשְׂתָהne/es/TAwas doneהַמְּלָאכָהham/me/la/KHAworkהַזֹּאת׃haz/ZOTthis

    And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard thereof, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.

17. 17

    גַּםgammoreoverבַּיָּמִיםbay/ya/MIMin the daysהָהֵםha/HEMthoseמַרְבִּיםmar/BIMsent manyחֹרֵיcho/REthe nobles ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahאִגְּרֹתֵיהֶםig/ge/ro/te/HEMtheir lettersהוֹלְכוֹתhol/KHOTgoingעַל־טוֹבִיָּהal-To/viy/YAto Tobiahוַאֲשֶׁרva/a/SHERand thoseלְטוֹבִיָּהle/To/viy/YAof Tobiahבָּאוֹתba/OTcameאֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMto them

    Moreover in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters unto Tobiah, and the letters of Tobiah came unto them.

18. 18

    כִּי־רַבִּיםki-rab/BIMfor manyבִּיהוּדָהbI/hu/DAin Judahבַּעֲלֵיba/a/LEwere bound byשְׁבוּעָהshe/vu/Aoathלוֹloto himכִּי־חָתָןki-cha/TANfor son-in-lawהוּאhuhe wasלִשְׁכַנְיָהLish/khan/YAof Shechaniahבֶן־אָרַחven-A/RACHthe son of ArahוִיהוֹחָנָןVi/ho/cha/NANand Jehohananבְּנוֹbe/NOhis sonלָקַחla/KACHhad takenאֶת־בַּת־מְשֻׁלָּםet-Bat-me/shul/LAMthe daughter of Meshullamבֶּןbenthe son ofבֶּרֶכְיָה׃Be/rekh/YABerechiah

    For there were many in Judah sworn unto him, because he was the son in law of Shechaniah the son of Arah; and his son Johanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah.

19. 19

    גַּםgamalsoטוֹבֹתָיוto/vo/TAYVhis good deedsהָיוּha/YUtheyאֹמְרִיםom/RIMreportedלְפָנַיle/fa/NAYbefore meוּדְבָרַיu/de/va/RAYand my wordsהָיוּha/YUtheyמוֹצִיאִיםmo/tsi/IMcarriedלוֹloto himאִגְּרוֹתig/ge/ROTlettersשָׁלַחsha/LACHsentטוֹבִיָּהTo/viy/YATobiahלְיָרְאֵנִי׃le/ya/re/E/nito make me afraid

    Also they reported his good deeds before me, and uttered my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear.
