Nehemiah 5 נְחֶמְיָה פרק ה׳

   וַתְּהִיvat/te/HIthen there wasצַעֲקַתtsa/a/KATthe cry ofהָעָםha/AMthe peopleוּנְשֵׁיהֶםu/ne/she/HEMand their wivesגְּדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatאֶל־אֲחֵיהֶםel-a/che/HEMagainst their brothersהַיְּהוּדִים׃hay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jews

   And there was a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews.

2. 2

   וְיֵשׁve/YESHfor there wereאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthose whoאֹמְרִיםom/RIMsaidבָּנֵינוּba/NE/nuour sonsוּבְנֹתֵינוּu/ve/no/TE/nuand our daughtersאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweרַבִּיםrab/BIMare manyוְנִקְחָהve/nik/CHAtherefore let us getדָגָןda/GANgrainוְנֹאכְלָהve/no/khe/LAthat we may eatוְנִחְיֶה׃ve/nich/YEand live

   For there were that said, We, our sons, and our daughters, are many: therefore we take up corn for them, that we may eat, and live.

   וְיֵשׁve/YESHthere were alsoאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthose whoאֹמְרִיםom/RIMsaidשְׂדֹתֵינוּse/do/TE/nuour fieldsוּכְרָמֵינוּu/khe/ra/ME/nuand our vineyardsוּבָתֵּינוּu/vat/TE/nuand our housesאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweעֹרְבִיםor/VIMare mortgagingוְנִקְחָהve/nik/CHAthat we might getדָגָןda/GANgrainבָּרָעָב׃ba/ra/AVbecause of the famine

   Some also there were that said, We have mortgaged our lands, vineyards, and houses, that we might buy corn, because of the dearth.

4. 4

   וְיֵשׁve/YESHthere were alsoאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthose whoאֹמְרִיםom/RIMsaidלָוִינוּla/VI/nuwe have borrowedכֶסֶףKHE/sefmoneyלְמִדַּתle/mid/DATfor the tribute ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingשְׂדֹתֵינוּse/do/TE/nuon our fieldsוּכְרָמֵינוּ׃u/khe/ra/ME/nuand our vineyards

   There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the king's tribute, and that upon our lands and vineyards.

   וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowכִּבְשַׂרkiv/SARas the flesh ofאַחֵינוּa/CHE/nuour brothersבְּשָׂרֵנוּbe/sa/RE/nuis our fleshכִּבְנֵיהֶםkiv/ne/HEMas their childrenבָּנֵינוּba/NE/nuour childrenוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweכֹבְשִׁיםkhov/SHIMare bringing into bondageאֶת־בָּנֵינוּet-ba/NE/nuour sonsוְאֶת־בְּנֹתֵינוּve/ET-be/no/TE/nuand our daughtersלַעֲבָדִיםla/a/va/DIMto be slavesוְיֵשׁve/YESHand there areמִבְּנֹתֵינוּmib/be/no/TE/nusome of our daughtersנִכְבָּשׁוֹתnikh/ba/SHOTin bondageוְאֵיןve/ENand it is notלְאֵלle/ELin the power ofיָדֵנוּya/DE/nuour handוּשְׂדֹתֵינוּu/se/do/TE/nufor our fieldsוּכְרָמֵינוּu/khe/ra/ME/nuand our vineyardsלַאֲחֵרִים׃la/a/che/RIMbelong to others

   Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto bondage already: neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.

   וַיִּחַרvay/YI/charand it burnedלִיliin meמְאֹדme/ODgreatlyכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasשָׁמַעְתִּיsha/MA/tiI heardאֶת־זַעֲקָתָםet-za/a/ka/TAMtheir cryוְאֵתve/ETandהַדְּבָרִיםhad/de/va/RIMthe wordsהָאֵלֶּה׃ha/EL/lethese

   And I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words.

   וַיִּמָּלֵךְvay/yim/ma/LEKHthen took counselלִבִּיlib/BImy heartעָלַיa/LAYwithin meוָאָרִיבָהva/a/RI/vaand I rebukedאֶת־הַחֹרִיםet-ha/cho/RIMthe noblesוְאֶת־הַסְּגָנִיםve/ET-has/se/ga/NIMand the officialsוָאֹמְרָהva/om/RAand I saidלָהֶםla/HEMto themמַשָּׁאmash/SHAusuryאִישׁ־בְּאָחִיוish-be/a/CHIVeach from his brotherאַתֶּםat/TEMyou(נשאים)nashyam[נֹשִׁים]no/SHIMexactוָאֶתֵּןva/et/TENand I heldעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMagainst themקְהִלָּהke/hil/LAan assemblyגְדוֹלָה׃ge/do/LAgreat

   Then I consulted with myself, and I rebuked the nobles, and the rulers, and said unto them, Ye exact usury, every one of his brother. And I set a great assembly against them.

   וָאֹמְרָהva/om/RAand I saidלָהֶםla/HEMto themאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweקָנִינוּka/NI/nuhave redeemedאֶת־אַחֵינוּet-a/CHE/nuour brothersהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsהַנִּמְכָּרִיםhan/nim/ka/RIMwho were soldלַגּוֹיִםlag/go/YIMto the nationsכְּדֵיke/DEas far asבָנוּVA/nuwas in usוְגַם־אַתֶּםve/GAM-at/TEMand will you evenתִּמְכְּרוּtim/ke/RUsellאֶת־אֲחֵיכֶםet-a/che/KHEMyour brothersוְנִמְכְּרוּ־לָנוּve/nim/ke/RU-LA/nuthat they may be sold to usוַיַּחֲרִישׁוּvay/ya/cha/RI/shuthen they were silentוְלֹאve/LOand notמָצְאוּma/tse/Ufoundדָּבָר׃da/VARa word

   And I said unto them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the heathen; and will ye even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold unto us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer.

   (ויאמר)vaymar[וָאוֹמַר]va/o/MARand I saidלֹא־טוֹבlo-tovnot good isהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe thingאֲשֶׁר־אַתֶּםa/SHER-at/TEMthat youעֹשִׂיםo/SIMare doingהֲלוֹאha/LOought you notבְּיִרְאַתbe/yir/ATin the fear ofאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuour Godתֵּלֵכוּte/LE/khuto walkמֵחֶרְפַּתme/cher/PATbecause of the reproach ofהַגּוֹיִםhag/go/YIMthe nationsאוֹיְבֵינוּ׃oy/VE/nuour enemies

   Also I said, It is not good that ye do: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies?

10. 10

    וְגַם־אֲנִיve/GAM-a/NII alsoאַחַיa/CHAYmy brothersוּנְעָרַיu/ne/a/RAYand my servantsנֹשִׁיםno/SHIMare lendingבָּהֶםba/HEMthemכֶּסֶףKE/sefmoneyוְדָגָןve/da/GANand grainנַעַזְבָה־נָּאna/az/VA-nalet us leave I prayאֶת־הַמַּשָּׁאet-ham/mash/SHAthe usuryהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    I likewise, and my brethren, and my servants, might exact of them money and corn: I pray you, let us leave off this usury.

    הָשִׁיבוּha/SHI/vurestoreנָאnaI prayלָהֶםla/HEMto themכְּהַיּוֹםke/hay/YOMthis very dayשְׂדֹתֵיהֶםse/do/te/HEMtheir fieldsכַּרְמֵיהֶםkar/me/HEMtheir vineyardsזֵיתֵיהֶםze/te/HEMtheir olive treesוּבָתֵּיהֶםu/vat/te/HEMand their housesוּמְאַתu/me/ATand the hundredth ofהַכֶּסֶףhak/KE/sefthe moneyוְהַדָּגָןve/had/da/GANand the grainהַתִּירוֹשׁhat/ti/ROSHthe new wineוְהַיִּצְהָרve/hay/yits/HARand the oilאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatאַתֶּםat/TEMyouנֹשִׁיםno/SHIMare exactingבָּהֶם׃ba/HEMfrom them

    Restore, I pray you, to them, even this day, their lands, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the corn, the wine, and the oil, that ye exact of them.

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidנָשִׁיבna/SHIVwe will restoreוּמֵהֶםu/me/HEMand from themלֹאlonotנְבַקֵּשׁne/vak/KESHwill we requireכֵּןkensoנַעֲשֶׂהna/a/SEwe will doכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasאַתָּהat/TAyouאוֹמֵרo/MERsayוָאֶקְרָאva/ek/RAand I calledאֶת־הַכֹּהֲנִיםet-hak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsוָאַשְׁבִּיעֵםva/ash/bi/EMand made them swearלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doכַּדָּבָרkad/da/VARaccording to the wordהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    Then said they, We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do as thou sayest. Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do according to this promise.

    גַּם־חׇצְנִיgam-chots/NIalso my lapנָעַרְתִּיna/AR/tiI shook outוָאֹמְרָהva/om/RAand I saidכָּכָהKA/khasoיְנַעֵרye/na/ERmay shake outהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodאֶת־כׇּל־הָאִישׁet-kol-ha/ISHevery manאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoלֹא־יָקִיםlo-ya/KIMdoes not performאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe wordהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisמִבֵּיתוֹmib/be/TOfrom his houseוּמִיגִיעוֹu/mi/gi/Oand from his laborוְכָכָהve/KHA/khaeven thusיִהְיֶהyih/YEmay he beנָעוּרna/URshaken outוָרֵקva/REKand emptyוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidכׇל־הַקָּהָלkhol-hak/ka/HALall the assemblyאָמֵןa/MENamenוַיְהַלְלוּvay/hal/LUand they praisedאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDוַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand didהָעָםha/AMthe peopleכַּדָּבָרkad/da/VARaccording to the wordהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    Also I shook my lap, and said, So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labour, that performeth not this promise, even thus be he shaken out, and emptied. And all the congregation said, Amen, and praised the LORD. And the people did according to this promise.

    גַּםgammoreoverמִיּוֹםmiy/YOMfrom the dayאֲשֶׁר־צִוָּהa/SHER-tsiv/VAthat he appointedאוֹתִיo/TImeלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beפֶּחָםpe/CHAMtheir governorבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the land ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahמִשְּׁנַתmish/she/NATfrom the yearעֶשְׂרִיםes/RIMtwentyוְעַדve/ADeven toשְׁנַתshe/NATthe yearשְׁלֹשִׁיםshe/lo/SHIMthirtyוּשְׁתַּיִםush/TA/yimand twoלְאַרְתַּחְשַׁסְתְּאle/Ar/tach/SHAS/teof Artaxerxesהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsשְׁתֵּים־עֶשְׂרֵהshtem-es/REtwelveאֲנִיa/NIIוְאַחַיve/a/CHAYnor my brothersלֶחֶםLE/chemthe food ofהַפֶּחָהhap/pe/CHAthe governorלֹאlonotאָכַלְתִּי׃a/KHAL/tihave eaten

    Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even unto the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor.

15. 15

    וְהַפַּחוֹתve/hap/pa/CHOTbut the governorsהָרִאשֹׁנִיםha/ri/sho/NIMformerאֲשֶׁר־לְפָנַיa/SHER-le/fa/NAYwho were before meהִכְבִּידוּhikh/BI/dulaid burdensעַל־הָעָםal-ha/AMon the peopleוַיִּקְחוּvay/yik/CHUand they tookמֵהֶםme/HEMof themבְּלֶחֶםbe/LE/chembreadוָיַיִןva/YA/yinand wineאַחַרa/CHARbesidesכֶּסֶף־שְׁקָלִיםKE/sef-she/ka/LIMshekels of silverאַרְבָּעִיםar/ba/IMfortyגַּםgamalsoנַעֲרֵיהֶםna/a/re/HEMtheir servantsשָׁלְטוּsha/le/TUlorded itעַל־הָעָםal-ha/AMover the peopleוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iלֹא־עָשִׂיתִיlo-a/SI/tidid not doכֵןkhensoמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofיִרְאַתyir/ATthe fear ofאֱלֹהִים׃e/lo/HIMGod

    But the former governors that had been before me were chargeable unto the people, and had taken of them bread and wine, beside forty shekels of silver; yea, even their servants bare rule over the people: but so did not I, because of the fear of God.

16. 16

    וְגַםve/GAMand alsoבִּמְלֶאכֶתbim/LE/khetin the work ofהַחוֹמָהha/cho/MAthe wallהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisהֶחֱזַקְתִּיhe/che/ZAK/tiI continuedוְשָׂדֶהve/sa/DEand any landלֹאlonotקָנִינוּka/NI/nudid we buyוְכׇל־נְעָרַיve/KHOL-ne/a/RAYand all my young menקְבוּצִיםke/vu/TSIMwere gatheredשָׁםshamthereעַל־הַמְּלָאכָה׃al-ham/me/la/KHAto the work

    Yea, also I continued in the work of this wall, neither bought we any land: and all my servants were gathered thither unto the work.

17. 17

    וְהַיְּהוּדִיםve/hay/Ye/hu/DIMand the Jewsוְהַסְּגָנִיםve/has/se/ga/NIMand the officialsמֵאָהme/Aa hundredוַחֲמִשִּׁיםva/cha/mish/SHIMand fiftyאִישׁishmenוְהַבָּאִיםve/hab/ba/IMbesides those who cameאֵלֵינוּe/LE/nuto usמִן־הַגּוֹיִםmin-hag/go/YIMof the nationsאֲשֶׁר־סְבִיבֹתֵינוּa/SHER-se/vi/vo/TE/nuthat were around usעַל־שֻׁלְחָנִי׃al-shul/cha/NIwere at my table

    Moreover there were at my table an hundred and fifty of the Jews and rulers, beside those that came unto us from among the heathen that are about us.

    וַאֲשֶׁרva/a/SHERnow whatהָיָהha/YAwasנַעֲשֶׂהna/a/SEpreparedלְיוֹםle/YOMfor dayאֶחָדe/CHADoneשׁוֹרshoran oxאֶחָדe/CHADoneצֹאןtsonsheepשֵׁשׁ־בְּרֻרוֹתshesh-be/ru/ROTsix choiceוְצִפֳּרִיםve/tsip/po/RIMand birdsנַעֲשׂוּ־לִיna/a/SU-liwere prepared for meוּבֵיןu/VENand once inעֲשֶׂרֶתa/SE/rettenיָמִיםya/MIMdaysבְּכׇל־יַיִןbe/KHOL-YA/yinall kinds of wineלְהַרְבֵּהle/har/BEin abundanceוְעִם־זֶהve/IM-zeyet for all thisלֶחֶםLE/chemthe food ofהַפֶּחָהhap/pe/CHAthe governorלֹאlonotבִקַּשְׁתִּיvik/KASH/tidid I requireכִּי־כָבְדָהki-kha/ve/DAfor was heavyהָעֲבֹדָהha/a/vo/DAthe bondageעַל־הָעָםal-ha/AMon the peopleהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    Now that which was prepared for me daily was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine: yet for all this required not I the bread of the governor, because the bondage was heavy upon this people.

    זׇכְרָה־לִּיzokh/RA-liremember meאֱלֹהַיe/lo/HAYO my Godלְטוֹבָהle/to/VAfor goodכֹּלkolallאֲשֶׁר־עָשִׂיתִיa/SHER-a/SI/tithat I have doneעַל־הָעָםal-ha/AMfor the peopleהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    Think upon me, my God, for good, according to all that I have done for this people.
