Nehemiah 4 נְחֶמְיָה פרק ד׳

   But it came to pass, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth,

   וַיִּקְשְׁרוּvay/yik/she/RUand they conspiredכֻלָּםkhul/LAMall of themיַחְדָּוyach/DAVtogetherלָבוֹאla/VOto comeלְהִלָּחֵםle/hil/la/CHEMto fightבִּירוּשָׁלָ͏ִםbI/ru/sha/LA/yimagainst Jerusalemוְלַעֲשׂוֹתve/la/a/SOTand to causeלוֹloin itתּוֹעָה׃to/Aconfusion

   And conspired all of them together to come and to fight against Jerusalem, and to hinder it.

   וַנִּתְפַּלֵּלvan/nit/pal/LELand we prayedאֶל־אֱלֹהֵינוּel-e/lo/HE/nuto our Godוַנַּעֲמִידvan/na/a/MIDand setמִשְׁמָרmish/MARa watchעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMagainst themיוֹמָםyo/MAMby dayוָלַיְלָהva/LAY/laand nightמִפְּנֵיהֶם׃mip/pe/ne/HEMbecause of them

   Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahכָּשַׁלka/SHALis failingכֹּחַKO/achthe strength ofהַסַּבָּלhas/sab/BALthe burden bearersוְהֶעָפָרve/he/a/FARand the rubbishהַרְבֵּהhar/BEis muchוַאֲנַחְנוּva/a/NACH/nuand we areלֹאlonotנוּכַלnu/KHALwe are ableלִבְנוֹתliv/NOTto buildבַּחוֹמָה׃ba/cho/MAthe wall

   And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.

   וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidצָרֵינוּtsa/RE/nuour adversariesלֹאlonotיֵדְעוּyed/Ushall they knowוְלֹאve/LOand notיִרְאוּyir/Useeעַדaduntilאֲשֶׁר־נָבוֹאa/SHER-na/VOwe comeאֶל־תּוֹכָםel-to/KHAMinto their midstוַהֲרַגְנוּםva/ha/rag/NUMand we will kill themוְהִשְׁבַּתְנוּve/hish/BAT/nuand stopאֶת־הַמְּלָאכָה׃et-ham/me/la/KHAthe work

   And our adversaries said, They shall not know, neither see, till we come in the midst among them, and slay them, and cause the work to cease.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁר־בָּאוּka/a/SHER-BA/uwhen cameהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsהַיֹּשְׁבִיםhay/yosh/VIMwho dweltאֶצְלָםets/LAMnear themוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidלָנוּLA/nuto usעֶשֶׂרE/sertenפְּעָמִיםpe/a/MIMtimesמִכׇּל־הַמְּקֹמוֹתmik/KOL-ham/me/ko/MOTfrom all the placesאֲשֶׁר־תָּשׁוּבוּa/SHER-ta/SHU/vuyou turnעָלֵינוּ׃a/LE/nuto us

   And it came to pass, that when the Jews which dwelt by them came, they said unto us ten times, From all places whence ye shall return unto us they will be upon you.

   וָאַעֲמִידva/a/a/MIDso I stationedמִתַּחְתְּיוֹתmit/tach/te/YOTin the lowest partsלַמָּקוֹםlam/ma/KOMof the placeמֵאַחֲרֵיme/a/cha/REbehindלַחוֹמָהla/cho/MAthe wall(בצחחיים)vatsachachayayam[בַּצְּחִיחִים]bats/tse/chi/CHIMin the open placesוָאַעֲמִידva/a/a/MIDand I stationedאֶת־הָעָםet-ha/AMthe peopleלְמִשְׁפָּחוֹתle/mish/pa/CHOTby familiesעִם־חַרְבֹתֵיהֶםim-char/vo/te/HEMwith their swordsרׇמְחֵיהֶםrom/che/HEMtheir spearsוְקַשְּׁתֹתֵיהֶם׃ve/kash/she/to/te/HEMand their bows

   Therefore set I in the lower places behind the wall, and on the higher places, I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows.

   וָאֵרֶאva/E/reand I lookedוָאָקוּםva/a/KUMand rose upוָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidאֶל־הַחֹרִיםel-ha/cho/RIMto the noblesוְאֶל־הַסְּגָנִיםve/EL-has/se/ga/NIMand to the officialsוְאֶל־יֶתֶרve/EL-YE/terand to the rest ofהָעָםha/AMthe peopleאַל־תִּירְאוּal-ti/re/Udo not be afraidמִפְּנֵיהֶםmip/pe/ne/HEMof themאֶת־אֲדֹנָיet-a/do/NAYthe Lordהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLgreatוְהַנּוֹרָאve/han/no/RAand awesomeזְכֹרוּze/KHO/rurememberוְהִלָּחֲמוּve/hil/la/cha/MUand fightעַל־אֲחֵיכֶםal-a/che/KHEMfor your brothersבְּנֵיכֶםbe/ne/KHEMyour sonsוּבְנֹתֵיכֶםu/ve/no/te/KHEMand your daughtersנְשֵׁיכֶםne/she/KHEMyour wivesוּבָתֵּיכֶם׃u/vat/te/KHEMand your houses

   And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁר־שָׁמְעוּka/a/SHER-sha/me/Uwhen heardאוֹיְבֵינוּoy/VE/nuour enemiesכִּי־נוֹדַעki-NO/dathat it was knownלָנוּLA/nuto usוַיָּפֶרvay/YA/ferand that had brought to nothingהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodאֶת־עֲצָתָםet-a/tsa/TAMtheir counsel(ונשוב)vanashavav[וַנָּשׇׁב]van/NA/shovand we returnedכֻּלָּנוּkul/LA/nuall of usאֶל־הַחוֹמָהel-ha/cho/MAto the wallאִישׁisheachאֶל־מְלַאכְתּוֹ׃el-me/lakh/TOto his work

   And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that it was known unto us, and God had brought their counsel to nought, that we returned all of us to the wall, every one unto his work.

10. 10

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passמִן־הַיּוֹםmin-hay/YOMfrom the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatחֲצִיcha/TSIhalf ofנְעָרַיne/a/RAYmy young menעֹשִׂיםo/SIMworkedבַּמְּלָאכָהbam/me/la/KHAat the workוְחֶצְיָםve/chets/YAMand half of themמַחֲזִיקִיםma/cha/zi/KIMheldוְהָרְמָחִיםve/ha/re/ma/CHIMand the spearsהַמָּגִנִּיםham/ma/gin/NIMthe shieldsוְהַקְּשָׁתוֹתve/hak/ke/sha/TOTand the bowsוְהַשִּׁרְיֹנִיםve/hash/shir/yo/NIMand the coats of mailוְהַשָּׂרִיםve/has/sa/RIMand the leaders wereאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterכׇּל־בֵּיתkol-betall the house ofיְהוּדָה׃Ye/hu/DAJudah

    And it came to pass from that time forth, that the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the habergeons; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah.

11. 11

    הַבּוֹנִיםhab/bo/NIMthe buildersבַּחוֹמָהba/cho/MAon the wallוְהַנֹּשְׂאִיםve/han/nos/IMand those who carriedבַּסֶּבֶלbas/SE/velburdensעֹמְשִׂיםom/SIMloadingבְּאַחַתbe/a/CHATwith one ofיָדוֹya/DOhis handעֹשֶׂהo/SEdidבַמְּלָאכָהvam/me/la/KHAthe workוְאַחַתve/a/CHATand with the otherמַחֲזֶקֶתma/cha/ZE/ketwas holdingהַשָּׁלַח׃hash/SHA/lacha weapon

    They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon.

12. 12

    וְהַבּוֹנִיםve/hab/bo/NIMand the buildersאִישׁisheachחַרְבּוֹchar/BOhis swordאֲסוּרִיםa/su/RIMgirdedעַל־מׇתְנָיוal-mot/NAYVat his sideוּבוֹנִיםu/vo/NIMand so builtוְהַתּוֹקֵעַve/hat/to/KE/aand he who soundedבַּשּׁוֹפָרbash/sho/FARthe trumpetאֶצְלִי׃ets/LIwas beside me

    For the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and so builded. And he that sounded the trumpet was by me.

13. 13

    וָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidאֶל־הַחֹרִיםel-ha/cho/RIMto the noblesוְאֶל־הַסְּגָנִיםve/EL-has/se/ga/NIMand to the officialsוְאֶל־יֶתֶרve/EL-YE/terand to the rest ofהָעָםha/AMthe peopleהַמְּלָאכָהham/me/la/KHAthe work isהַרְבֵּהhar/BEgreatוּרְחָבָהu/re/cha/VAand wideוַאֲנַחְנוּva/a/NACH/nuand we areנִפְרָדִיםnif/ra/DIMare separatedעַל־הַחוֹמָהal-ha/cho/MAupon the wallרְחוֹקִיםre/cho/KIMfarאִישׁishoneמֵאָחִיו׃me/a/CHIVfrom another

    And I said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The work is great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another.

14. 14

    בִּמְקוֹםbim/KOMin the placeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereתִּשְׁמְעוּtish/me/Uyou hearאֶת־קוֹלet-kolthe sound ofהַשּׁוֹפָרhash/sho/FARthe trumpetשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathereתִּקָּבְצוּtik/ka/ve/TSUrallyאֵלֵינוּe/LE/nuto usאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuour Godיִלָּחֶםyil/LA/chemwill fightלָנוּ׃LA/nufor us

    In what place therefore ye hear the sound of the trumpet, resort ye thither unto us: our God shall fight for us.

15. 15

    וַאֲנַחְנוּva/a/NACH/nuand we areעֹשִׂיםo/SIMworkedבַּמְּלָאכָהbam/me/la/KHAthe workוְחֶצְיָםve/chets/YAMand half of themמַחֲזִיקִיםma/cha/zi/KIMheldבָּרְמָחִיםba/re/ma/CHIMthe spearsמֵעֲלוֹתme/a/LOTfrom the rising ofהַשַּׁחַרhash/SHA/charthe dawnעַדaduntilצֵאתtsetcame outהַכּוֹכָבִים׃hak/ko/kha/VIMthe stars

    So we laboured in the work: and half of them held the spears from the rising of the morning till the stars appeared.

16. 16

    גַּםgamalsoבָּעֵתba/ETat the timeהַהִיאha/HIthatאָמַרְתִּיa/MAR/tiI saidלָעָםla/AMto the peopleאִישׁishlet eachוְנַעֲרוֹve/na/a/ROwith his servantיָלִינוּya/LI/nulodgeבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHwithinיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalemוְהָיוּ־לָנוּve/ha/YU-LA/nuthat they may be for usהַלַּיְלָהhal/LAY/laby nightמִשְׁמָרmish/MARa guardוְהַיּוֹםve/hay/YOMand by dayמְלָאכָה׃me/la/KHAwork

    Likewise at the same time said I unto the people, Let every one with his servant lodge within Jerusalem, that in the night they may be a guard to us, and labour on the day.

17. 17

    וְאֵיןve/ENso neitherאֲנִיa/NIIוְאַחַיve/a/CHAYand my brothersוּנְעָרַיu/ne/a/RAYand my servantsוְאַנְשֵׁיve/an/SHEnor the men ofהַמִּשְׁמָרham/mish/MARthe guardאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho followedאַחֲרַיa/cha/RAYmeאֵין־אֲנַחְנוּen-a/NACH/nunone of usפֹשְׁטִיםfosh/TIMtook offבְּגָדֵינוּbe/ga/DE/nuour garmentsאִישׁisheachשִׁלְחוֹshil/CHOhis weaponהַמָּיִם׃ham/MA/yimthe water

    So neither I, nor my brethren, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard which followed me, none of us put off our clothes, saving that every one put them off for washing.
