   On that day they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people; and therein was found written, that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come into the congregation of God for ever;

   Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them, that he should curse them: howbeit our God turned the curse into a blessing.

   Now it came to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated from Israel all the mixed multitude.

   וְלִפְנֵיve/lif/NEand beforeמִזֶּהmiz/ZEthisאֶלְיָשִׁיבEl/ya/SHIVEliashibהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestנָתוּןna/TUNhaving been appointedבְּלִשְׁכַּתbe/lish/KATover the chambers ofבֵּית־אֱלֹהֵינוּbet-e/lo/HE/nuthe house of our Godקָרוֹבka/ROVrelatedלְטוֹבִיָּה׃le/To/viy/YAto Tobiah

   And before this, Eliashib the priest, having the oversight of the chamber of the house of our God, was allied unto Tobiah:

   And he had prepared for him a great chamber, where aforetime they laid the meat offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the corn, the new wine, and the oil, which was commanded to be given to the Levites, and the singers, and the porters; and the offerings of the priests.

   But in all this time was not I at Jerusalem: for in the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon came I unto the king, and after certain days obtained I leave of the king:

   וָאָבוֹאva/a/VOand I cameלִירוּשָׁלָ͏ִםlI/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalemוָאָבִינָהva/a/VI/naand I understoodבָרָעָהva/ra/Athe evilאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשָׂהa/SAhad doneאֶלְיָשִׁיבEl/ya/SHIVEliashibלְטוֹבִיָּהle/To/viy/YAfor Tobiahלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTin preparingלוֹlofor himנִשְׁכָּהnish/KAa chamberבְּחַצְרֵיbe/chats/REin the courts ofבֵּיתbetthe house ofהָאֱלֹהִים׃ha/e/lo/HIMGod

   And I came to Jerusalem, and understood of the evil that Eliashib did for Tobiah, in preparing him a chamber in the courts of the house of God.

   וַיֵּרַעvay/YE/raand it grievedלִיlimeמְאֹדme/ODgreatlyוָאַשְׁלִיכָהva/ash/LI/khatherefore I threwאֶת־כׇּל־כְּלֵיet-kol-ke/LEall the household goods ofבֵית־טוֹבִיָּהvet-To/viy/YAthe house of Tobiahהַחוּץha/CHUTSoutsideמִן־הַלִּשְׁכָּה׃min-hal/lish/KAof the chamber

   And it grieved me sore: therefore I cast forth all the household stuff of Tobiah out of the chamber.

   וָאֹמְרָהva/om/RAthen I commandedוַיְטַהֲרוּvay/ta/ha/RUand they cleansedהַלְּשָׁכוֹתhal/le/sha/KHOTthe chambersוָאָשִׁיבָהva/a/SHI/vaand I brought againשָּׁםshamthereכְּלֵיke/LEthe vessels ofבֵּיתbetthe house ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodאֶת־הַמִּנְחָהet-ham/min/CHAthe grain offeringוְהַלְּבוֹנָה׃ve/hal/le/vo/NAand the frankincense

   Then I commanded, and they cleansed the chambers: and thither brought I again the vessels of the house of God, with the meat offering and the frankincense.

    וָאֵדְעָהva/ed/Aand I learnedכִּי־מְנָיוֹתki-me/na/YOTthat the portions ofהַלְוִיִּםHal/viy/YIMthe Levitesלֹאlonotנִתָּנָהnit/TA/nahad been given themוַיִּבְרְחוּvay/yiv/re/CHUfor had fledאִישׁ־לְשָׂדֵהוּish-le/sa/DE/hueach to his fieldהַלְוִיִּםHal/viy/YIMthe Levitesוְהַמְשֹׁרְרִיםve/ham/shor/RIMand the singersעֹשֵׂיo/SEwho didהַמְּלָאכָה׃ham/me/la/KHAthe work

    And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them: for the Levites and the singers, that did the work, were fled every one to his field.

    וָאָרִיבָהva/a/RI/vaso I contended withאֶת־הַסְּגָנִיםet-has/se/ga/NIMthe officialsוָאֹמְרָהva/om/RAand I saidמַדּוּעַmad/DU/awhyנֶעֱזַבne/e/ZAVis forsakenבֵּית־הָאֱלֹהִיםbet-ha/e/lo/HIMthe house of Godוָאֶקְבְּצֵםva/ek/be/TSEMand I gathered themוָאַעֲמִדֵםva/a/a/mi/DEMand set themעַל־עׇמְדָם׃al-om/DAMin their place

    Then contended I with the rulers, and said, Why is the house of God forsaken? And I gathered them together, and set them in their place.

12. 12

    וְכׇל־יְהוּדָהve/KHOL-ye/hu/DAand all Judahהֵבִיאוּhe/VI/ubroughtמַעְשַׂרma/SARthe tithe ofהַדָּגָןhad/da/GANthe grainוְהַתִּירוֹשׁve/hat/ti/ROSHand the new wineוְהַיִּצְהָרve/hay/yits/HARand the oilלָאוֹצָרוֹת׃la/o/tsa/ROTinto the storehouses

    Then brought all Judah the tithe of the corn and the new wine and the oil unto the treasuries.

    וָאוֹצְרָהva/ots/RAand I made treasurersעַל־אוֹצָרוֹתal-o/tsa/ROTover the storehousesשֶׁלֶמְיָהShe/lem/YAShelemiahהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestוְצָדוֹקve/Tsa/DOKand Zadokהַסּוֹפֵרhas/so/FERthe scribeוּפְדָיָהu/Fe/da/YAand Pedaiahמִן־הַלְוִיִּםmin-Hal/viy/YIMof the Levitesוְעַל־יָדָםve/AL-ya/DAMand next to themחָנָןCha/NANHananבֶּן־זַכּוּרben-Zak/KURthe son of Zaccurבֶּן־מַתַּנְיָהben-Mat/tan/YAthe son of Mattaniahכִּיkiforנֶאֱמָנִיםne/e/ma/NIMfaithfulנֶחְשָׁבוּnech/SHA/vuthey were countedוַעֲלֵיהֶםva/a/le/HEMand their task wasלַחֲלֹקla/cha/LOKto distributeלַאֲחֵיהֶם׃la/a/che/HEMto their brothers

    And I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah: for they were counted faithful, and their office was to distribute unto their brethren.

    זׇכְרָה־לִּיzokh/RA-liremember meאֱלֹהַיe/lo/HAYO my Godעַל־זֹאתal-zotconcerning thisוְאַל־תֶּמַחve/AL-TE/machand do not wipe outחֲסָדַיcha/sa/DAYmy kindnessesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשִׂיתִיa/SI/tiI have doneבְּבֵיתbe/VETin the house ofאֱלֹהַיe/lo/HAYmy Godוּבְמִשְׁמָרָיו׃u/ve/mish/ma/RAYVand for its services

    Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and wipe not out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for the offices thereof.

    In those days saw I in Judah some treading wine presses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day: and I testified against them in the day wherein they sold victuals.

    וְהַצֹּרִיםve/hats/Tso/RIMand the Tyriansיָשְׁבוּya/she/VUdweltבָהּvathereמְבִיאִיםme/vi/IMwho broughtדָּאגdagfishוְכׇל־מֶכֶרve/KHOL-ME/kherand all kinds of waresוּמוֹכְרִיםu/mokh/RIMand soldבַּשַּׁבָּתbash/shab/BATon the sabbathלִבְנֵיliv/NEto the children ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוּבִירוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃u/Vi/ru/sha/LA/yimand in Jerusalem

    There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish, and all manner of ware, and sold on the sabbath unto the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem.

17. 17

    וָאָרִיבָהva/a/RI/vathen I contended withאֵת־חֹרֵיet-cho/REthe nobles ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוָאֹמְרָהva/om/RAand I saidלָהֶםla/HEMto themמָה־הַדָּבָרma-had/da/VARwhat is this thingהָרָעha/RAevilהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatאַתֶּםat/TEMyouעֹשִׂיםo/SIMare doingוּמְחַלְּלִיםu/me/chal/le/LIMand profaneאֶת־יוֹםet-yomthe day ofהַשַּׁבָּת׃hash/shab/BATthe sabbath

    Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing is this that ye do, and profane the sabbath day?

18. 18

    הֲלוֹאha/LOdid notכֹהkhothusעָשׂוּa/SUdoאֲבֹתֵיכֶםa/vo/te/KHEMyour fathersוַיָּבֵאvay/ya/VEand bringאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuour Godעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuupon usאֵת־כׇּל־הָרָעָהet-kol-ha/ra/Aall the evilהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisוְעַלve/ALand uponהָעִירha/IRthe cityהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisוְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMyet youמוֹסִיפִיםmo/si/FIMbring moreחָרוֹןcha/RONwrathעַל־יִשְׂרָאֵלal-Yis/ra/ELupon Israelלְחַלֵּלle/chal/LELby profaningאֶת־הַשַּׁבָּת׃et-hash/shab/BATthe sabbath

    Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenצָלְלוּtsa/le/LUbegan to be darkשַׁעֲרֵיsha/a/REthe gates ofיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalemלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַשַּׁבָּתhash/shab/BATthe sabbathוָאֹמְרָהva/om/RAI commandedוַיִּסָּגְרוּvay/yis/sa/ge/RUthat should be shutהַדְּלָתוֹתhad/de/la/TOTthe doorsוָאֹמְרָהva/om/RAand I commandedאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatלֹאlonotיִפְתָּחוּםyif/ta/CHUMshould they open themעַדaduntilאַחַרa/CHARafterהַשַּׁבָּתhash/shab/BATthe sabbathוּמִנְּעָרַיu/min/ne/a/RAYand some of my servantsהֶעֱמַדְתִּיhe/e/MAD/tiI setעַל־הַשְּׁעָרִיםal-hash/she/a/RIMat the gatesלֹא־יָבוֹאlo-ya/VOthat no should be brought inמַשָּׂאmas/SAburdenבְּיוֹםbe/YOMon the day ofהַשַּׁבָּת׃hash/shab/BATthe sabbath

    And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.

    וַיָּלִינוּvay/ya/LI/nuso lodgedהָרֹכְלִיםha/rokh/LIMthe merchantsוּמֹכְרֵיu/mokh/REand sellers ofכׇל־מִמְכָּרkhol-mim/KARall kinds of waresמִחוּץmi/CHUTSoutsideלִירוּשָׁלָ͏ִםLi/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalemפַּעַםPA/amonceוּשְׁתָּיִם׃ush/TA/yimor twice

    So the merchants and sellers of all kind of ware lodged without Jerusalem once or twice.

21. 21

    וָאָעִידָהva/a/I/dathen I warnedבָהֶםva/HEMthemוָאֹמְרָהva/om/RAand I saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themמַדּוּעַmad/DU/awhyאַתֶּםat/TEMdo youלֵנִיםle/NIMlodgeנֶגֶדNE/gedaroundהַחוֹמָהha/cho/MAthe wallאִם־תִּשְׁנוּim-tish/NUif you do so againיָדyadhandsאֶשְׁלַחesh/LACHI will layבָּכֶםba/KHEMon youמִן־הָעֵתmin-ha/ETfrom the timeהַהִיאha/HIthatלֹא־בָאוּlo-VA/uthey came no moreבַּשַּׁבָּת׃bash/shab/BATon the sabbath

    Then I testified against them, and said unto them, Why lodge ye about the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth came they no more on the sabbath.

    וָאֹמְרָהva/om/RAand I commandedלַלְוִיִּםLal/viy/YIMthe Levitesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיִהְיוּyih/YUthey shouldמִטַּהֲרִיםmit/ta/ha/RIMcleanse themselvesוּבָאִיםu/va/IMand comeשֹׁמְרִיםshom/RIMand keepהַשְּׁעָרִיםhash/she/a/RIMthe gatesלְקַדֵּשׁle/kad/DESHto sanctifyאֶת־יוֹםet-yomthe day ofהַשַּׁבָּתhash/shab/BATthe sabbathגַּם־זֹאתgam-zotthis alsoזׇכְרָה־לִּיzokh/RA-liremember meאֱלֹהַיe/lo/HAYO my Godוְחוּסָהve/CHU/saand spareעָלַיa/LAYmeכְּרֹבke/ROVaccording to the greatness ofחַסְדֶּךָ׃chas/DE/khaYour kindness

    And I commanded the Levites that they should cleanse themselves, and that they should come and keep the gates, to sanctify the sabbath day. Remember me, O my God, concerning this also, and spare me according to the greatness of thy mercy.

    גַּםgamalsoבַּיָּמִיםbay/ya/MIMin the daysהָהֵםha/HEMthoseרָאִיתִיra/I/tiI sawאֶת־הַיְּהוּדִיםet-Hay/ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsהֹשִׁיבוּho/SHI/vuwho had marriedנָשִׁיםna/SHIMwives(אשדודיות)shadavadayavat[אַשְׁדֳּדִיּוֹת]Ash/do/diy/YOTof Ashdod(עמוניות)mavanayavat[עַמֳּנִיּוֹת]Am/mo/niy/YOTof Ammonמוֹאֲבִיּוֹת׃Mo/a/viy/YOTof Moab

    In those days also saw I Jews that had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab:

24. 24

    וּבְנֵיהֶםu/ve/ne/HEMand their childrenחֲצִיcha/TSIhalfמְדַבֵּרme/dab/BERspokeאַשְׁדּוֹדִיתAsh/do/DITAshdoditeוְאֵינָםve/e/NAMand could notמַכִּירִיםmak/ki/RIMknow howלְדַבֵּרle/dab/BERto speakיְהוּדִיתYe/hu/DITJudeanוְכִלְשׁוֹןve/khil/SHONbut according to the language ofעַםamone peopleוָעָם׃va/AMand people

    And their children spake half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews' language, but according to the language of each people.

    וָאָרִיבva/a/RIVso I contendedעִמָּםim/MAMwith themוָאֲקַלְלֵםva/a/kal/LEMand I cursed themוָאַכֶּהva/ak/KEand struckמֵהֶםme/HEMsome ofאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenוָאֶמְרְטֵםva/em/re/TEMand plucked out their hairוָאַשְׁבִּיעֵםva/ash/bi/EMand made them swearבֵּאלֹהִיםbe/lo/HIMby Godאִם־תִּתְּנוּim-tit/te/NUif you giveבְנֹתֵיכֶםve/no/te/KHEMyour daughtersלִבְנֵיהֶםliv/ne/HEMto their sonsוְאִם־תִּשְׂאוּve/IM-tis/Uand if you takeמִבְּנֹתֵיהֶםmib/be/no/te/HEMsome of their daughtersלִבְנֵיכֶםliv/ne/KHEMfor your sonsוְלָכֶם׃ve/la/KHEMor for yourselves

    And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, saying, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for yourselves.

    Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin.

    Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in marrying strange wives?

28. 28

    וּמִבְּנֵיu/mib/be/NEand one of the sons ofיוֹיָדָעYo/ya/DAJoiadaבֶּן־אֶלְיָשִׁיבben-El/ya/SHIVthe son of Eliashibהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLhighחָתָןcha/TANwas son-in-lawלְסַנְבַלַּטle/San/val/LATto Sanballatהַחֹרֹנִיha/Cho/ro/NIthe Horoniteוָאַבְרִיחֵהוּva/av/ri/CHE/huso I chased himמֵעָלָי׃me/a/LAYfrom me

    And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son in law to Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me.

29. 29

    זׇכְרָהzokh/RArememberלָהֶםla/HEMthemאֱלֹהָיe/lo/HAYO my Godעַלalbecauseגׇּאֳלֵיgo/o/LEthey have defiledהַכְּהֻנָּהhak/ke/hun/NAthe priesthoodוּבְרִיתu/ve/RITand the covenant ofהַכְּהֻנָּהhak/ke/hun/NAthe priesthoodוְהַלְוִיִּם׃Ve/hal/viy/YIMand the Levites

    Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites.

30. 30

    וְטִהַרְתִּיםve/ti/har/TIMand I purified themמִכׇּל־נֵכָרmik/KOL-ne/KHARfrom everything foreignוָאַעֲמִידָהva/a/a/MI/daand I appointedמִשְׁמָרוֹתmish/ma/ROTduties forלַכֹּהֲנִיםlak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsוְלַלְוִיִּםve/Lal/viy/YIMand to the Levitesאִישׁisheachבִּמְלַאכְתּוֹ׃bim/lakh/TOin his work

    Thus cleansed I them from all strangers, and appointed the wards of the priests and the Levites, every one in his business;

31. 31

    וּלְקֻרְבַּןu/le/kur/BANand for the offering ofהָעֵצִיםha/e/TSIMthe woodבְּעִתִּיםbe/it/TIMat timesמְזֻמָּנוֹתme/zum/ma/NOTappointedוְלַבִּכּוּרִיםve/lab/bik/ku/RIMand for the first fruitsזׇכְרָה־לִּיzokh/RA-liremember meאֱלֹהַיe/lo/HAYO my Godלְטוֹבָה׃le/to/VAfor good

    And for the wood offering, at times appointed, and for the firstfruits. Remember me, O my God, for good.
