Malachi 1 מַלְאָכִי פרק א׳

   מַשָּׂאthe burden ofדְבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDאֶל־יִשְׂרָאֵלto Israelבְּיַדin the hand ofמַלְאָכִי׃Malachi

2. 2

   אָהַבְתִּיI have lovedאֶתְכֶםyouאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDוַאֲמַרְתֶּםand you shall sayבַּמָּהwhereinאֲהַבְתָּנוּhave you loved usהֲלוֹא־אָחis it not a brotherעֵשָׂוEsauלְיַעֲקֹבto Jacobנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהsays the LORDוָאֹהַבand I lovedאֶת־יַעֲקֹב׃Jacob

   I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob,

   וְאֶת־עֵשָׂוand EsauשָׂנֵאתִיI hatedוָאָשִׂיםand I setאֶת־הָרָיוits mountainsשְׁמָמָהdesolateוְאֶת־נַחֲלָתוֹand his inheritanceלְתַנּוֹתfor the dragons ofמִדְבָּר׃the wilderness

   And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.

   כִּי־תֹאמַרthat you sayאֱדוֹםEdomרֻשַּׁשְׁנוּwe have been shatteredוְנָשׁוּבand we may returnוְנִבְנֶהso we may rebuildחֳרָבוֹתthe desolate placesכֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹתof Hostsהֵמָּהtheyיִבְנוּthey buildוַאֲנִיand IאֶהֱרוֹסI will tear downוְקָרְאוּand they shall callלָהֶםto themגְּבוּלborder ofרִשְׁעָהiniquityוְהָעָםand the peopleאֲשֶׁר־זָעַםagainst whom is indignantיְהֹוָהthe LORDעַד־עוֹלָם׃forever

   Whereas Edom saith, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath indignation for ever.

5. 5

   וְעֵינֵיכֶםand your eyesתִּרְאֶינָהshall seeוְאַתֶּםand youתֹּאמְרוּyou sayיִגְדַּלshall be magnifiedיְהֹוָהthe LORDמֵעַלfrom beyondלִגְבוּלto the border ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Israel

   And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say, The LORD will be magnified from the border of Israel.

   בֵּןa sonיְכַבֵּדhe honorsאָבfatherוְעֶבֶדand the servant ofאֲדֹנָיוhis masterוְאִם־אָבand if fatherאָנִיIאַיֵּהwhere isכְבוֹדִיmy honorוְאִם־אֲדוֹנִיםand if a masterאָנִיIאַיֵּהwhere isמוֹרָאִיmy fearאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹתof Hostsלָכֶםto youהַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsבּוֹזֵיdespisers ofשְׁמִיmy nameוַאֲמַרְתֶּםand you shall sayבַּמֶּהwhereinבָזִינוּhave we despisedאֶת־שְׁמֶךָ׃your name

   A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?

7. 7

   מַגִּישִׁיםyou are bringing nearעַל־מִזְבְּחִיupon my altarלֶחֶםbreadמְגֹאָלdefiledוַאֲמַרְתֶּםand you shall sayבַּמֶּהwhereinגֵאַלְנוּךָhave we defiled youבֶּאֱמׇרְכֶםwhen you saidשֻׁלְחַןthe table ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDנִבְזֶהis contemptibleהוּא׃it

   Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible.

8. 8

   וְכִי־תַגִּישׁוּןand that you bring nearעִוֵּרthe blindלִזְבֹּחַto offerאֵיןthere is noרָעevilוְכִיand thatתַגִּישׁוּyou bring nearפִּסֵּחַlameוְחֹלֶהand a sick animalאֵיןthere is noרָעevilהַקְרִיבֵהוּbring near itנָאI prayלְפֶחָתֶךָto your governorהֲיִרְצְךָwill he be pleased with youאוֹorהֲיִשָּׂאwill he lift upפָנֶיךָyour faceאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹת׃of Hosts

   And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.

9. 9

   וְעַתָּהand nowחַלּוּ־נָאentreat I prayפְנֵי־אֵלthe face of Godוִיחׇנֵּנוּso he may show favor to usמִיֶּדְכֶםfrom youהָיְתָהwasזֹּאתthisהֲיִשָּׂאwill he lift upמִכֶּםfrom youפָּנִיםpersonsאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹת׃of Hosts

   And now, I pray you, beseech God that he will be gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he regard your persons? saith the LORD of hosts.

10. 10

    מִיwhoגַם־בָּכֶםalso in youוְיִסְגֹּרso he may shutדְּלָתַיִםgatesוְלֹא־תָאִירוּand you kindle notמִזְבְּחִיmy altarחִנָּםfor noughtאֵין־לִיI have noחֵפֶץdesireבָּכֶםin youאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹתof Hostsוּמִנְחָהand a grain offeringלֹא־אֶרְצֶהnot I will acceptמִיֶּדְכֶם׃from you

    Who is there even among you that would shut the doors for nought? neither do ye kindle fire on mine altar for nought. I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.

11. 11

    כִּיbecauseמִמִּזְרַח־שֶׁמֶשׁfrom the rising of the sunוְעַד־מְבוֹאוֹand unto its settingגָּדוֹלgreatשְׁמִיmy nameבַּגּוֹיִםamong the nationsוּבְכׇל־מָקוֹםand in every placeמֻקְטָרincenseמֻגָּשׁis being brought nearלִשְׁמִיto my nameוּמִנְחָהand a grain offeringטְהוֹרָהis pureכִּי־גָדוֹלfor great isשְׁמִיmy nameבַּגּוֹיִםamong the nationsאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹת׃of Hosts

    For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts.

12. 12

    וְאַתֶּםand youמְחַלְּלִיםare profaningאוֹתוֹhimבֶּאֱמׇרְכֶםwhen you saidשֻׁלְחַןthe table ofאֲדֹנָיthe Lordמְגֹאָלdefiledהוּאitוְנִיבוֹand its fruitנִבְזֶהis contemptibleאׇכְלוֹ׃his food

    But ye have profaned it, in that ye say, The table of the LORD is polluted; and the fruit thereof, even his meat, is contemptible.

13. 13

    וַאֲמַרְתֶּםand you shall sayהִנֵּהbeholdמַתְּלָאָהwhat wearinessוְהִפַּחְתֶּםand you sniff atאוֹתוֹhimאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹתof Hostsוַהֲבֵאתֶםand you have broughtגָּזוּלthat which was tornוְאֶת־הַפִּסֵּחַand the lame animalוְאֶת־הַחוֹלֶהand the sickוַהֲבֵאתֶםand you have broughtאֶת־הַמִּנְחָהthe grain offeringהַאֶרְצֶהwill I acceptאוֹתָהּitמִיֶּדְכֶםfrom youאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

    Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.

14. 14

    וְאָרוּרand cursedנוֹכֵלone who deals deceptivelyוְיֵשׁand there wasבְּעֶדְרוֹin his flockזָכָרmaleוְנֹדֵרand one who makes a vowוְזֹבֵחַand one who sacrificesמׇשְׁחָתa corrupt thingלַאדֹנָיto the Lordכִּיforמֶלֶךְa kingגָּדוֹלgreatאָנִיIאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹתof Hostsוּשְׁמִיand my nameנוֹרָאdreadfulבַגּוֹיִם׃among the nations

    But cursed be the deceiver, which hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the Lord a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the heathen.
