Leviticus 18 וַיִּקְרָא פרק י״ח

1. 1

   וַיְדַבֵּרand spokeיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶל־מֹשֶׁהto Mosesלֵּאמֹר׃saying

   And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

2. 2

   דַּבֵּרspeakאֶל־בְּנֵיunto the sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוְאָמַרְתָּand sayאֲלֵהֶםunto themאֲנִיIיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיכֶם׃your God

   Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, I am the LORD your God.

   כְּמַעֲשֵׂהas the work ofאֶרֶץ־מִצְרַיִםland of Egyptאֲשֶׁרwhichיְשַׁבְתֶּם־בָּהּyou dwelt in itלֹאnotתַעֲשׂוּyou shall doוּכְמַעֲשֵׂהand according to the deeds ofאֶרֶץ־כְּנַעַןland of CanaanאֲשֶׁרwhichאֲנִיIמֵבִיאam bringingאֶתְכֶםyouשָׁמָּהthereלֹאnotתַעֲשׂוּyou shall doוּבְחֻקֹּתֵיהֶםand in their statutesלֹאnotתֵלֵכוּ׃you will walk

   After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances.

   אֶת־מִשְׁפָּטַיmy judgmentsתַּעֲשׂוּyou shall doוְאֶת־חֻקֹּתַיand my statutesתִּשְׁמְרוּyou shall keepלָלֶכֶתto goבָּהֶםin themאֲנִיIיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיכֶם׃your God

   Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God.

   וּשְׁמַרְתֶּםand you shall keepאֶת־חֻקֹּתַיmy statutesוְאֶת־מִשְׁפָּטַיand my judgmentsאֲשֶׁרwhichיַעֲשֶׂהhe shall doאֹתָםthemהָאָדָםthe manוָחַיand shall liveבָּהֶםin themאֲנִיIיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

   Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD.

   אִישׁanyאִישׁmanאֶל־כׇּל־שְׁאֵרto all relative ofבְּשָׂרוֹhis fleshלֹאnotתִקְרְבוּyou will draw nearלְגַלּוֹתto make bareעֶרְוָהnakednessאֲנִיIיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

   None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD.

   עֶרְוַתthe nakedness ofאָבִיךָyour fatherוְעֶרְוַתand the nakedness ofאִמְּךָyour motherלֹאnotתְגַלֵּהyou will uncoverאִמְּךָyour motherהִואsheלֹאnotתְגַלֶּהyou will uncoverעֶרְוָתָהּ׃her nakedness

   The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.

8. 8

   עֶרְוַתthe nakedness ofאֵשֶׁת־אָבִיךָthe wife of your fatherלֹאnotתְגַלֵּהyou will uncoverעֶרְוַתthe nakedness ofאָבִיךָyour fatherהִוא׃it is

   The nakedness of thy father's wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father's nakedness.

9. 9

   עֶרְוַתthe nakedness ofאֲחוֹתְךָyour sisterבַת־אָבִיךָthe daughter of your fatherאוֹorבַת־אִמֶּךָthe daughter of your motherמוֹלֶדֶתbornבַּיִתhouseאוֹorמוֹלֶדֶתbornחוּץabroadלֹאnotתְגַלֶּהyou will uncoverעֶרְוָתָן׃their nakedness

   The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or daughter of thy mother, whether she be born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover.

10. 10

    עֶרְוַתthe nakedness ofבַּת־בִּנְךָthe daughter of your sonאוֹorבַת־בִּתְּךָthe daughter of your daughterלֹאnotתְגַלֶּהyou will uncoverעֶרְוָתָןtheir nakednessכִּיforעֶרְוָתְךָyour nakednessהֵנָּה׃they are

    The nakedness of thy son's daughter, or of thy daughter's daughter, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover: for theirs is thine own nakedness.

11. 11

    עֶרְוַתthe nakedness ofבַּת־אֵשֶׁתthe daughter of the wife ofאָבִיךָyour fatherמוֹלֶדֶתbornאָבִיךָyour fatherאֲחוֹתְךָyour sisterהִואsheלֹאnotתְגַלֶּהyou will uncoverעֶרְוָתָהּ׃her nakedness

    The nakedness of thy father's wife's daughter, begotten of thy father, she is thy sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.

12. 12

    עֶרְוַתthe nakedness ofאֲחוֹת־אָבִיךָthe sister of your fatherלֹאnotתְגַלֵּהyou will uncoverשְׁאֵרrelative ofאָבִיךָyour fatherהִוא׃she

    Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's sister: she is thy father's near kinswoman.

13. 13

    עֶרְוַתthe nakedness ofאֲחוֹת־אִמְּךָthe sister of your motherלֹאnotתְגַלֵּהyou will uncoverכִּי־שְׁאֵרbecause relative ofאִמְּךָyour motherהִוא׃she

    Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother's sister: for she is thy mother's near kinswoman.

14. 14

    עֶרְוַתthe nakedness ofאֲחִי־אָבִיךָthe brother of your fatherלֹאnotתְגַלֵּהyou will uncoverאֶל־אִשְׁתּוֹto his wifeלֹאnotתִקְרָבyou will draw nearדֹּדָתְךָyour auntהִוא׃she

    Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's brother, thou shalt not approach to his wife: she is thine aunt.

15. 15

    עֶרְוַתthe nakedness ofכַּלָּתְךָyour daughter in lawלֹאnotתְגַלֵּהyou will uncoverאֵשֶׁתthe wife ofבִּנְךָyour sonהִואsheלֹאnotתְגַלֶּהyou will uncoverעֶרְוָתָהּ׃her nakedness

    Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy daughter in law: she is thy son's wife; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.

16. 16

    עֶרְוַתthe nakedness ofאֵשֶׁת־אָחִיךָthe wife of your brotherלֹאnotתְגַלֵּהyou will uncoverעֶרְוַתthe nakedness ofאָחִיךָyour brotherהִוא׃it is

    Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother's wife: it is thy brother's nakedness.

17. 17

    עֶרְוַתthe nakedness ofאִשָּׁהa womanוּבִתָּהּand her daughterלֹאnotתְגַלֵּהyou will uncoverאֶת־בַּת־בְּנָהּthe daughter of her sonוְאֶת־בַּת־בִּתָּהּand the daughter of her daughterלֹאnotתִקַּחyou will takeלְגַלּוֹתto make bareעֶרְוָתָהּher nakednessשַׁאֲרָהrelativesהֵנָּהthey areזִמָּהwickednessהִוא׃it is

    Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son's daughter, or her daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near kinswomen: it is wickedness.

18. 18

    וְאִשָּׁהand a womanאֶל־אֲחֹתָהּto her sisterלֹאnotתִקָּחyou shall takeלִצְרֹרto make her a rival wifeלְגַלּוֹתto make bareעֶרְוָתָהּher nakednessעָלֶיהָupon itבְּחַיֶּיהָ׃in her life

    Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time.

19. 19

    וְאֶל־אִשָּׁהand a womanבְּנִדַּתin the menstruous impurity ofטֻמְאָתָהּher uncleannessלֹאnotתִקְרַבyou will draw nearלְגַלּוֹתto make bareעֶרְוָתָהּ׃her nakedness

    Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness.

20. 20

    וְאֶל־אֵשֶׁתand the wife ofעֲמִיתְךָyour fellow citizenלֹא־תִתֵּןnot you shall giveשְׁכׇבְתְּךָyour lyingלְזָרַעfor seedלְטׇמְאָה־בָהּ׃to become unclean in her

    Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour's wife, to defile thyself with her.

21. 21

    וּמִזַּרְעֲךָand from your seedלֹא־תִתֵּןnot you shall giveלְהַעֲבִירcause to passלַמֹּלֶךְto the Molechוְלֹאand notתְחַלֵּלyou will profaneאֶת־שֵׁםname ofאֱלֹהֶיךָyour GodאֲנִיIיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

    And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.

22. 22

    וְאֶת־זָכָרand maleלֹאnotתִשְׁכַּבyou will lie withמִשְׁכְּבֵיthe bed ofאִשָּׁהa womanתּוֹעֵבָהabominationהִוא׃it is

    Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

23. 23

    וּבְכׇל־בְּהֵמָהand in all beastלֹא־תִתֵּןnot you shall giveשְׁכׇבְתְּךָyour lyingלְטׇמְאָה־בָהּto become unclean in herוְאִשָּׁהand a womanלֹא־תַעֲמֹדnot standsלִפְנֵיbeforeבְהֵמָהan animalלְרִבְעָהּto stretch out with itתֶּבֶלconfusionהוּא׃it

    Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.

24. 24

    אַל־תִּטַּמְּאוּdo not defile yourselvesבְּכׇל־אֵלֶּהin all theseכִּיforבְכׇל־אֵלֶּהin all theseנִטְמְאוּwere defiledהַגּוֹיִםthe nationsאֲשֶׁר־אֲנִיwhich Iמְשַׁלֵּחַam driving outמִפְּנֵיכֶם׃because of you

    Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you:

25. 25

    וַתִּטְמָאand it became uncleanהָאָרֶץthe landוָאֶפְקֹדand I visitedעֲוֺנָהּher iniquityעָלֶיהָupon itוַתָּקִאand it vomited upהָאָרֶץthe landאֶת־יֹשְׁבֶיהָ׃its inhabitants

    And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.

26. 26

    וּשְׁמַרְתֶּםand you shall keepאַתֶּםyou areאֶת־חֻקֹּתַיmy statutesוְאֶת־מִשְׁפָּטַיand my judgmentsוְלֹאand notתַעֲשׂוּyou shall doמִכֹּלof allהַתּוֹעֵבֹתthe abominationsהָאֵלֶּהtheseהָאֶזְרָחthe native bornוְהַגֵּרand the sojournerהַגָּרthe one who sojournsבְּתוֹכְכֶם׃among you

    Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:

27. 27

    כִּיforאֶת־כׇּל־הַתּוֹעֵבֹתall the abominationsהָאֵלtheseעָשׂוּthey didאַנְשֵׁי־הָאָרֶץthe men of the landאֲשֶׁרwhichלִפְנֵיכֶםbefore youוַתִּטְמָאand it became uncleanהָאָרֶץ׃the land

    (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;)

28. 28

    וְלֹא־תָקִיאand not it will vomit upהָאָרֶץthe landאֶתְכֶםyouבְּטַמַּאֲכֶםwhen you make uncleanאֹתָהּitכַּאֲשֶׁרasקָאָהit vomited upאֶת־הַגּוֹיthe nationאֲשֶׁרwhichלִפְנֵיכֶם׃before you

    That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you.

29. 29

    כִּיforכׇּל־אֲשֶׁרall thatיַעֲשֶׂהhe shall doמִכֹּלof allהַתּוֹעֵבֹתthe abominationsהָאֵלֶּהtheseוְנִכְרְתוּand shall be cut offהַנְּפָשׁוֹתthe soulsהָעֹשֹׂתthe ones who doמִקֶּרֶבfrom the midst ofעַמָּם׃their people

    For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people.

30. 30

    וּשְׁמַרְתֶּםand you shall keepאֶת־מִשְׁמַרְתִּיmy dutyלְבִלְתִּיto notעֲשׂוֹתdoמֵחֻקּוֹתany of the customs ofהַתּוֹעֵבֹתthe abominationsאֲשֶׁרwhichנַעֲשׂוּwere doneלִפְנֵיכֶםbefore youוְלֹאand notתִטַּמְּאוּyou shall make yourselves uncleanבָּהֶםin themאֲנִיIיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיכֶם׃your God

    Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God.
