    וַיְדַבֵּרand spokeיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶל־מֹשֶׁהto Mosesלֵּאמֹר׃saying

    And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

    דַּבֵּרspeakאֶל־אַהֲרֹןto Aaronוְאֶל־בָּנָיוand his sonsוְאֶלandכׇּל־בְּנֵיall sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוְאָמַרְתָּand sayאֲלֵיהֶםto themזֶהthisהַדָּבָרthe wordאֲשֶׁר־צִוָּהwhich commandedיְהֹוָהthe LORDלֵאמֹר׃saying

    Speak unto Aaron, and unto his sons, and unto all the children of Israel, and say unto them; This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, saying,

    אִישׁanyאִישׁmanמִבֵּיתfrom the house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelאֲשֶׁרwhichיִשְׁחַטhe slaughtersשׁוֹרan oxאוֹ־כֶשֶׂבor a lambאוֹ־עֵזor a goatבַּמַּחֲנֶהin the campאוֹorאֲשֶׁרwhichיִשְׁחַטhe slaughtersמִחוּץwithoutלַמַּחֲנֶה׃the camp

    What man soever there be of the house of Israel, that killeth an ox, or lamb, or goat, in the camp, or that killeth it out of the camp,

    וְאֶל־פֶּתַחand door ofאֹהֶלthe tent ofמוֹעֵדthe congregationלֹאnotהֱבִיאוֹhe has brought itלְהַקְרִיבto offerקׇרְבָּןofferingלַיהֹוָהto the LORDלִפְנֵיbeforeמִשְׁכַּןthe tabernacle ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDדָּםbloodיֵחָשֵׁבit is reckonedלָאִישׁto the manהַהוּאthatדָּםbloodשָׁפָךְhe has shedוְנִכְרַתand shall be cut offהָאִישׁthe manהַהוּאthatמִקֶּרֶבfrom the midst ofעַמּוֹ׃his people

    And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer an offering unto the LORD before the tabernacle of the LORD; blood shall be imputed unto that man; he hath shed blood; and that man shall be cut off from among his people:

    לְמַעַןin order thatאֲשֶׁרwhichיָבִיאוּthey shall bringבְּנֵיthe sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelאֶת־זִבְחֵיהֶםtheir sacrificesאֲשֶׁרwhichהֵםtheyזֹבְחִיםare sacrificingעַל־פְּנֵיupon the face ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe fieldוֶהֱבִיאֻםand they will bring themלַיהֹוָהto the LORDאֶל־פֶּתַחto the door ofאֹהֶלthe tent ofמוֹעֵדthe congregationאֶל־הַכֹּהֵןto the priestוְזָבְחוּand they will sacrificeזִבְחֵיsacrifices ofשְׁלָמִיםpeace offeringsלַיהֹוָהto the LORDאוֹתָם׃them

    To the end that the children of Israel may bring their sacrifices, which they offer in the open field, even that they may bring them unto the LORD, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest, and offer them for peace offerings unto the LORD.

    וְזָרַקand he will sprinkleהַכֹּהֵןthe priestאֶת־הַדָּםthe bloodעַל־מִזְבַּחupon the altar ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDפֶּתַחthe door ofאֹהֶלthe tent ofמוֹעֵדthe congregationוְהִקְטִירand shall burnהַחֵלֶבthe fatלְרֵיחַto an aroma ofנִיחֹחַsoothingלַיהֹוָה׃to the LORD

    And the priest shall sprinkle the blood upon the altar of the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and burn the fat for a sweet savour unto the LORD.

    וְלֹא־יִזְבְּחוּand not they shall sacrificeעוֹדany moreאֶת־זִבְחֵיהֶםtheir sacrificesלַשְּׂעִירִםto the goat idolsאֲשֶׁרwhichהֵםtheyזֹנִיםare prostituting themselvesאַחֲרֵיהֶםafter themחֻקַּתa statute ofעוֹלָםeternalתִּהְיֶה־זֹּאתshall be thisלָהֶםto themלְדֹרֹתָם׃for their generations

    And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they have gone a whoring. This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generations.

    וַאֲלֵהֶםand to themתֹּאמַרyou shall sayאִישׁanyאִישׁmanמִבֵּיתfrom the house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוּמִן־הַגֵּרand from the sojournerאֲשֶׁר־יָגוּרwhich shall dwellבְּתוֹכָםamong themאֲשֶׁר־יַעֲלֶהwho offers upעֹלָהa burnt offeringאוֹ־זָבַח׃or a sacrifice

    And thou shalt say unto them, Whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers which sojourn among you, that offereth a burnt offering or sacrifice,

    וְאֶל־פֶּתַחand door ofאֹהֶלthe tent ofמוֹעֵדthe congregationלֹאnotיְבִיאֶנּוּhe will bring itלַעֲשׂוֹתto offerאֹתוֹitלַיהֹוָהto the LORDוְנִכְרַתand shall be cut offהָאִישׁthe manהַהוּאthatמֵעַמָּיו׃from his people

    And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer it unto the LORD; even that man shall be cut off from among his people.

    וְאִישׁand anyאִישׁmanמִבֵּיתfrom the house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוּמִן־הַגֵּרand from the sojournerהַגָּרthe one who sojournsבְּתוֹכָםamong themאֲשֶׁרwhichיֹאכַלhe shall eatכׇּל־דָּםall bloodוְנָתַתִּיand I will setפָנַיmy faceבַּנֶּפֶשׁon the personהָאֹכֶלֶתthe one who eatsאֶת־הַדָּםthe bloodוְהִכְרַתִּיand I will cut offאֹתָהּitמִקֶּרֶבfrom the midst ofעַמָּהּ׃its people

    And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people.

    כִּיbecauseנֶפֶשׁthe life ofהַבָּשָׂרthe fleshבַּדָּםin the bloodהִואit isוַאֲנִיand IנְתַתִּיוI have given itלָכֶםto youעַל־הַמִּזְבֵּחַupon the altarלְכַפֵּרto make atonementעַל־נַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶםupon your soulsכִּי־הַדָּםbecause the bloodהוּאitבַּנֶּפֶשׁby the lifeיְכַפֵּר׃shall make atonement

    For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

    עַל־כֵּןthereforeאָמַרְתִּיI saidלִבְנֵיunto the sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelכׇּל־נֶפֶשׁall soulמִכֶּםfrom youלֹא־תֹאכַלnot you shall eatדָּםbloodוְהַגֵּרand the sojournerהַגָּרthe one who sojournsבְּתוֹכְכֶםamong youלֹא־יֹאכַלnot he shall eatדָּם׃blood

    Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood.

    וְאִישׁand anyאִישׁmanמִבְּנֵיfrom the sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוּמִן־הַגֵּרand from the sojournerהַגָּרthe one who sojournsבְּתוֹכָםamong themאֲשֶׁרwhichיָצוּדhe will huntצֵידhunted game ofחַיָּהa wild animalאוֹ־עוֹףor birdsאֲשֶׁרwhichיֵאָכֵלis eatenוְשָׁפַךְand he will pour outאֶת־דָּמוֹhis bloodוְכִסָּהוּand he will cover itבֶּעָפָר׃in the dust

    And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust.

  14. 14

    כִּי־נֶפֶשׁbecause the life ofכׇּל־בָּשָׂרall the fleshדָּמוֹhis bloodבְנַפְשׁוֹwith his lifeהוּאitוָאֹמַרand I saidלִבְנֵיunto the sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelדַּםthe blood ofכׇּל־בָּשָׂרall the fleshלֹאnotתֹאכֵלוּyou shall eatכִּיbecauseנֶפֶשׁthe life ofכׇּל־בָּשָׂרall the fleshדָּמוֹhis bloodהִואit isכׇּל־אֹכְלָיוall those who eat itיִכָּרֵת׃he shall be cut off

    For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.

  15. 15

    וְכׇל־נֶפֶשׁand all soulאֲשֶׁרwhichתֹּאכַלeatsנְבֵלָהa carcassוּטְרֵפָהand a torn animalבָּאֶזְרָחamong the native bornוּבַגֵּרand among the sojournerוְכִבֶּסand he will washבְּגָדָיוhis garmentsוְרָחַץand he will washבַּמַּיִםin the waterוְטָמֵאand he shall be uncleanעַד־הָעֶרֶבuntil the eveningוְטָהֵר׃and he shall be clean

    And every soul that eateth that which died of itself, or that which was torn with beasts, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger, he shall both wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even: then shall he be clean.

  16. 16

    וְאִםand ifלֹאnotיְכַבֵּסhe shall washוּבְשָׂרוֹand his fleshלֹאnotיִרְחָץhe shall washוְנָשָׂאand shall bearעֲוֺנוֹ׃his iniquity

    But if he wash them not, nor bathe his flesh; then he shall bear his iniquity.
