1. 1

   וַיְדַבֵּרand spokeיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶל־מֹשֶׁהto Mosesוְאֶל־אַהֲרֹןand Aaronלֵאמֹרsayingאֲלֵהֶם׃unto them

   And the LORD spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying unto them,

2. 2

   דַּבְּרוּspeakאֶל־בְּנֵיunto the sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelלֵאמֹרsayingזֹאתthisהַחַיָּהthe livingאֲשֶׁרwhichתֹּאכְלוּyou shall eatמִכׇּל־הַבְּהֵמָהfrom all the livestockאֲשֶׁרwhichעַל־הָאָרֶץ׃upon the land

   Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, These are the beasts which ye shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth.

   כֹּלallמַפְרֶסֶתone which divides in twoפַּרְסָהa hoofוְשֹׁסַעַתand which cleavesשֶׁסַעa cleft ofפְּרָסֹתhoovesמַעֲלַתwhich brings upגֵּרָהcudבַּבְּהֵמָהamong the livestockאֹתָהּitתֹּאכֵלוּ׃you will eat

   Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, and cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that shall ye eat.

   אַךְbutאֶת־זֶהthisלֹאnotתֹאכְלוּyou shall eatמִמַּעֲלֵיfrom those which bring upהַגֵּרָהthe cudוּמִמַּפְרִסֵיand of those that divideהַפַּרְסָהthe hoofאֶת־הַגָּמָלthe camelכִּי־מַעֲלֵהbecause is bringing upגֵרָהcudהוּאitוּפַרְסָהand a hoofאֵינֶנּוּis notמַפְרִיסis dividing in twoטָמֵאuncleanהוּאitלָכֶם׃to you

   Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the hoof: as the camel, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.

   וְאֶת־הַשָּׁפָןand the rock badgerכִּי־מַעֲלֵהbecause is bringing upגֵרָהcudהוּאitוּפַרְסָהand a hoofלֹאnotיַפְרִיסit divides in twoטָמֵאuncleanהוּאitלָכֶם׃to you

   And the coney, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.

   וְאֶת־הָאַרְנֶבֶתand the hareכִּי־מַעֲלַתbecause which brings upגֵּרָהcudהִואit isוּפַרְסָהand a hoofלֹאnotהִפְרִיסָהit divides in twoטְמֵאָהuncleanהִואit isלָכֶם׃to you

   And the hare, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.

   וְאֶת־הַחֲזִירand the pigכִּי־מַפְרִיסbecause is dividing in twoפַּרְסָהa hoofהוּאitוְשֹׁסַעand is cleavingשֶׁסַעa cleft ofפַּרְסָהa hoofוְהוּאand itגֵּרָהcudלֹא־יִגָּרnot it ruminatesטָמֵאuncleanהוּאitלָכֶם׃to you

   And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you.

8. 8

   מִבְּשָׂרָםtheir fleshלֹאnotתֹאכֵלוּyou shall eatוּבְנִבְלָתָםand their carcassלֹאnotתִגָּעוּyou shall touchטְמֵאִיםuncleanהֵםtheyלָכֶם׃to you

   Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you.

9. 9

   אֶת־זֶהthisתֹּאכְלוּyou shall eatמִכֹּלof allאֲשֶׁרwhichבַּמָּיִםin the waterכֹּלallאֲשֶׁר־לוֹwhich he hasסְנַפִּירfinוְקַשְׂקֶשֶׂתand scaleבַּמַּיִםin the waterבַּיַּמִּיםin the seasוּבַנְּחָלִיםand in the wadisאֹתָםthemתֹּאכֵלוּ׃you will eat

   These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.

    וְכֹלand allאֲשֶׁרwhichאֵין־לוֹthere is not to itסְנַפִּירfinוְקַשְׂקֶשֶׂתand scaleבַּיַּמִּיםin the seasוּבַנְּחָלִיםand in the wadisמִכֹּלof allשֶׁרֶץthe swarming things ofהַמַּיִםthe watersוּמִכֹּלand of allנֶפֶשׁsoulהַחַיָּהthe livingאֲשֶׁרwhichבַּמָּיִםin the waterשֶׁקֶץdetestable thingהֵםtheyלָכֶם׃to you

    And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:

11. 11

    וְשֶׁקֶץand detestable thingsיִהְיוּshall beלָכֶםto youמִבְּשָׂרָםtheir fleshלֹאnotתֹאכֵלוּyou shall eatוְאֶת־נִבְלָתָםand their carcassesתְּשַׁקֵּצוּ׃you will consider detestable

    They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.

12. 12

    כֹּלallאֲשֶׁרwhichאֵין־לוֹthere is not to itסְנַפִּירfinוְקַשְׂקֶשֶׂתand scaleבַּמָּיִםin the waterשֶׁקֶץdetestable thingהוּאitלָכֶם׃to you

    Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

13. 13

    וְאֶת־אֵלֶּהand theseתְּשַׁקְּצוּyou will consider detestableמִן־הָעוֹףfrom the birdsלֹאnotיֵאָכְלוּthey will be eatenשֶׁקֶץdetestable thingהֵםtheyאֶת־הַנֶּשֶׁרthe eagleוְאֶת־הַפֶּרֶסand the bearded vultureוְאֵתandהָעׇזְנִיָּה׃the sea eagle

    And these are they which ye shall have in abomination among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray,

14. 14

    וְאֶת־הַדָּאָהand the black kiteוְאֶת־הָאַיָּהand the hawkלְמִינָהּ׃after its kind

    And the vulture, and the kite after his kind;

15. 15

    אֵת־כׇּל־עֹרֵבall ravenלְמִינוֹ׃after its kind

    Every raven after his kind;

16. 16

    וְאֵתandבַּתthe daughter ofהַיַּעֲנָהthe ostrichוְאֶת־הַתַּחְמָסand the screech owlוְאֶת־הַשָּׁחַףand the gullוְאֶת־הַנֵּץand the falconלְמִינֵהוּ׃after its kind

    And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk after his kind,

17. 17

    וְאֶת־הַכּוֹסand the little owlוְאֶת־הַשָּׁלָךְand the cormorantוְאֶת־הַיַּנְשׁוּף׃and the great owl

    And the little owl, and the cormorant, and the great owl,

18. 18

    וְאֶת־הַתִּנְשֶׁמֶתand the barn owlוְאֶת־הַקָּאָתand the desert owlוְאֶת־הָרָחָם׃and the Egyptian vulture

    And the swan, and the pelican, and the gier eagle,

19. 19

    וְאֵתandהַחֲסִידָהthe storkהָאֲנָפָהthe heronלְמִינָהּafter its kindוְאֶת־הַדּוּכִיפַתand the hoopoeוְאֶת־הָעֲטַלֵּף׃and the bat

    And the stork, the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.

20. 20

    כֹּלallשֶׁרֶץthe swarming things ofהָעוֹףthe birdsהַהֹלֵךְthat goesעַל־אַרְבַּעupon fourשֶׁקֶץdetestable thingהוּאitלָכֶם׃to you

    All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you.

21. 21

    אַךְbutאֶת־זֶהthisתֹּאכְלוּyou shall eatמִכֹּלof allשֶׁרֶץthe swarming things ofהָעוֹףthe birdsהַהֹלֵךְthat goesעַל־אַרְבַּעupon fourאֲשֶׁר־[לוֹ]which is to it(לא)כְרָעַיִםlegsמִמַּעַלaboveלְרַגְלָיוat his feetלְנַתֵּרto hopבָּהֵןin themעַל־הָאָרֶץ׃upon the land

    Yet these may ye eat of every flying creeping thing that goeth upon all four, which have legs above their feet, to leap withal upon the earth;

22. 22

    אֶת־אֵלֶּהtheseמֵהֶםof themתֹּאכֵלוּyou will eatאֶת־הָאַרְבֶּהthe locustsלְמִינוֹafter its kindוְאֶת־הַסׇּלְעָםand the locustלְמִינֵהוּafter its kindוְאֶת־הַחַרְגֹּלand the locustלְמִינֵהוּafter its kindוְאֶת־הֶחָגָבand the grasshopperלְמִינֵהוּ׃after its kind

    Even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the grasshopper after his kind.

23. 23

    וְכֹלand allשֶׁרֶץthe swarming things ofהָעוֹףthe birdsאֲשֶׁר־לוֹwhich he hasאַרְבַּעfourרַגְלָיִםfeetשֶׁקֶץdetestable thingהוּאitלָכֶם׃to you

    But all other flying creeping things, which have four feet, shall be an abomination unto you.

24. 24

    וּלְאֵלֶּהand to theseתִּטַּמָּאוּyou shall become uncleanכׇּל־הַנֹּגֵעַall the one who touchesבְּנִבְלָתָםtheir carcassיִטְמָאhe shall be uncleanעַד־הָעָרֶב׃until the evening

    And for these ye shall be unclean: whosoever toucheth the carcase of them shall be unclean until the even.

25. 25

    וְכׇל־הַנֹּשֵׂאand all the one who carriesמִנִּבְלָתָםany of their carcassיְכַבֵּסhe shall washבְּגָדָיוhis garmentsוְטָמֵאand he shall be uncleanעַד־הָעָרֶב׃until the evening

    And whosoever beareth ought of the carcase of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even.

26. 26

    לְכׇל־הַבְּהֵמָהto all the livestockאֲשֶׁרwhichהִואit isמַפְרֶסֶתone which divides in twoפַּרְסָהa hoofוְשֶׁסַעand a cleftאֵינֶנָּהis notשֹׁסַעַתis cleavingוְגֵרָהand cudאֵינֶנָּהis notמַעֲלָהis bringing upטְמֵאִיםuncleanהֵםtheyלָכֶםto youכׇּל־הַנֹּגֵעַall the one who touchesבָּהֶםin themיִטְמָא׃he shall be unclean

    The carcases of every beast which divideth the hoof, and is not clovenfooted, nor cheweth the cud, are unclean unto you: every one that toucheth them shall be unclean.

27. 27

    וְכֹלand allהוֹלֵךְgoingעַל־כַּפָּיוupon its pawsבְּכׇל־הַחַיָּהin all the livingהַהֹלֶכֶתthat ledעַל־אַרְבַּעupon fourטְמֵאִיםuncleanהֵםtheyלָכֶםto youכׇּל־הַנֹּגֵעַall the one who touchesבְּנִבְלָתָםtheir carcassיִטְמָאhe shall be uncleanעַד־הָעָרֶב׃until the evening

    And whatsoever goeth upon his paws, among all manner of beasts that go on all four, those are unclean unto you: whoso toucheth their carcase shall be unclean until the even.

28. 28

    וְהַנֹּשֵׂאand the one who carriesאֶת־נִבְלָתָםtheir carcassesיְכַבֵּסhe shall washבְּגָדָיוhis garmentsוְטָמֵאand he shall be uncleanעַד־הָעָרֶבuntil the eveningטְמֵאִיםuncleanהֵמָּהtheyלָכֶם׃to you

    And he that beareth the carcase of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: they are unclean unto you.

29. 29

    וְזֶהand thisלָכֶםto youהַטָּמֵאthe uncleanבַּשֶּׁרֶץamong the swarming thingsהַשֹּׁרֵץthe one which swarmsעַל־הָאָרֶץupon the landהַחֹלֶדthe weaselוְהָעַכְבָּרand the mouseוְהַצָּבand the great lizardלְמִינֵהוּ׃after its kind

    These also shall be unclean unto you among the creeping things that creep upon the earth; the weasel, and the mouse, and the tortoise after his kind,

30. 30

    וְהָאֲנָקָהand the geckoוְהַכֹּחַand the monitor lizardוְהַלְּטָאָהand the wall lizardוְהַחֹמֶטand the skinkוְהַתִּנְשָׁמֶת׃and the chameleon

    And the ferret, and the chameleon, and the lizard, and the snail, and the mole.

31. 31

    אֵלֶּהtheseהַטְּמֵאִיםthose who are uncleanלָכֶםto youבְּכׇל־הַשָּׁרֶץin all the swarming thingכׇּל־הַנֹּגֵעַall the one who touchesבָּהֶםin themבְּמֹתָםin their deathיִטְמָאhe shall be uncleanעַד־הָעָרֶב׃until the evening

    These are unclean to you among all that creep: whosoever doth touch them, when they be dead, shall be unclean until the even.

32. 32

    וְכֹלand allאֲשֶׁר־יִפֹּל־עָלָיוwhich shall fall upon himמֵהֶםof themבְּמֹתָםin their deathיִטְמָאit shall be uncleanמִכׇּל־כְּלִי־עֵץfrom any vessel of woodאוֹorבֶגֶדa garmentאוֹ־עוֹרor a skin ofאוֹorשָׂקsackclothכׇּל־כְּלִיany vesselאֲשֶׁר־יֵעָשֶׂהwhich shall be doneמְלָאכָהa workבָּהֶםin themבַּמַּיִםin the waterיוּבָאit shall be broughtוְטָמֵאand it shall be uncleanעַד־הָעֶרֶבuntil the eveningוְטָהֵר׃and it shall be clean

    And upon whatsoever any of them, when they are dead, doth fall, it shall be unclean; whether it be any vessel of wood, or raiment, or skin, or sack, whatsoever vessel it be, wherein any work is done, it must be put into water, and it shall be unclean until the even; so it shall be cleansed.

33. 33

    וְכׇל־כְּלִי־חֶרֶשׂand any vessel of earthenwareאֲשֶׁר־יִפֹּלwhich shall fallמֵהֶםof themאֶל־תּוֹכוֹto the middle of itכֹּלallאֲשֶׁרwhichבְּתוֹכוֹin the midst thereofיִטְמָאit shall be uncleanוְאֹתוֹand itתִשְׁבֹּרוּ׃you will break

    And every earthen vessel, whereinto any of them falleth, whatsoever is in it shall be unclean; and ye shall break it.

34. 34

    מִכׇּל־הָאֹכֶלfrom all the foodאֲשֶׁרwhichיֵאָכֵלis eatenאֲשֶׁרwhichיָבוֹאshall comeעָלָיוupon himמַיִםwaterיִטְמָאit shall be uncleanוְכׇל־מַשְׁקֶהand any drinkאֲשֶׁרwhichיִשָּׁתֶהit is drunkבְּכׇל־כְּלִיin any vesselיִטְמָא׃it shall be unclean

    Of all meat which may be eaten, that on which such water cometh shall be unclean: and all drink that may be drunk in every such vessel shall be unclean.

35. 35

    וְכֹלand allאֲשֶׁר־יִפֹּלwhich shall fallמִנִּבְלָתָםany of their carcassעָלָיוupon himיִטְמָאit shall be uncleanתַּנּוּרan ovenוְכִירַיִםand a stoveיֻתָּץit will be broken upטְמֵאִיםuncleanהֵםtheyוּטְמֵאִיםand uncleanיִהְיוּshall beלָכֶם׃to you

    And every thing whereupon any part of their carcase falleth shall be unclean; whether it be oven, or ranges for pots, they shall be broken down: for they are unclean, and shall be unclean unto you.

36. 36

    אַךְbutמַעְיָןa springוּבוֹרand a cisternמִקְוֵה־מַיִםreservoir of waterיִהְיֶהshall beטָהוֹרcleanוְנֹגֵעַand one who touchesבְּנִבְלָתָםtheir carcassיִטְמָא׃he shall be unclean

    Nevertheless a fountain or pit, wherein there is plenty of water, shall be clean: but that which toucheth their carcase shall be unclean.

37. 37

    וְכִיand ifיִפֹּלshall fallמִנִּבְלָתָםany of their carcassעַל־כׇּל־זֶרַעupon all seedזֵרוּעַsowingאֲשֶׁרwhichיִזָּרֵעַit will be sownטָהוֹרcleanהוּא׃it

    And if any part of their carcase fall upon any sowing seed which is to be sown, it shall be clean.

38. 38

    וְכִיand ifיֻתַּן־מַיִםwater is putעַל־זֶרַעupon the seed ofוְנָפַלand fellמִנִּבְלָתָםany of their carcassעָלָיוupon himטָמֵאuncleanהוּאitלָכֶם׃to you

    But if any water be put upon the seed, and any part of their carcase fall thereon, it shall be unclean unto you.

39. 39

    וְכִיand ifיָמוּתhe shall dieמִן־הַבְּהֵמָהfrom the livestockאֲשֶׁר־הִיאwhich it isלָכֶםto youלְאׇכְלָהfor foodהַנֹּגֵעַthe one who touchesבְּנִבְלָתָהּits carcassיִטְמָאhe shall be uncleanעַד־הָעָרֶב׃until the evening

    And if any beast, of which ye may eat, die; he that toucheth the carcase thereof shall be unclean until the even.

40. 40

    וְהָאֹכֵלand the one who eatsמִנִּבְלָתָהּany of its carcassיְכַבֵּסhe shall washבְּגָדָיוhis garmentsוְטָמֵאand he shall be uncleanעַד־הָעָרֶבuntil the eveningוְהַנֹּשֵׂאand the one who carriesאֶת־נִבְלָתָהּits carcassיְכַבֵּסhe shall washבְּגָדָיוhis garmentsוְטָמֵאand he shall be uncleanעַד־הָעָרֶב׃until the evening

    And he that eateth of the carcase of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: he also that beareth the carcase of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even.

41. 41

    וְכׇל־הַשֶּׁרֶץand all the swarming thingהַשֹּׁרֵץthe one which swarmsעַל־הָאָרֶץupon the landשֶׁקֶץdetestable thingהוּאitלֹאnotיֵאָכֵל׃is eaten

    And every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth shall be an abomination; it shall not be eaten.

42. 42

    כֹּלallהוֹלֵךְgoingעַל־גָּחוֹןupon bellyוְכֹלand allהוֹלֵךְgoingעַל־אַרְבַּעupon fourעַדuntilכׇּל־מַרְבֵּהall one which multipliesרַגְלַיִםfeetלְכׇל־הַשֶּׁרֶץto all the swarming thingהַשֹּׁרֵץthe one which swarmsעַל־הָאָרֶץupon the landלֹאnotתֹאכְלוּםyou shall eat themכִּי־שֶׁקֶץbecause detestable thingהֵם׃they

    Whatsoever goeth upon the belly, and whatsoever goeth upon all four, or whatsoever hath more feet among all creeping things that creep upon the earth, them ye shall not eat; for they are an abomination.

43. 43

    אַל־תְּשַׁקְּצוּdo not make detestableאֶת־נַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶםyour soulsבְּכׇל־הַשֶּׁרֶץin all the swarming thingהַשֹּׁרֵץthe one which swarmsוְלֹאand notתִטַּמְּאוּyou shall make yourselves uncleanבָּהֶםin themוְנִטְמֵתֶםand you become uncleanבָּם׃in them

    Ye shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creepeth, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should be defiled thereby.

44. 44

    כִּיbecauseאֲנִיIיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיכֶםyour Godוְהִתְקַדִּשְׁתֶּםand you shall sanctify yourselvesוִהְיִיתֶםand you becomeקְדֹשִיםholyכִּיbecauseקָדוֹשׁholyאָנִיIוְלֹאand notתְטַמְּאוּyou shall make uncleanאֶת־נַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶםyour soulsבְּכׇל־הַשֶּׁרֶץin all the swarming thingהָרֹמֵשׂthe one which creepsעַל־הָאָרֶץ׃upon the land

    For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

45. 45

    כִּיbecauseאֲנִיIיְהֹוָהthe LORDהַמַּעֲלֶהthe one who brought upאֶתְכֶםyouמֵאֶרֶץfrom the land ofמִצְרַיִםEgyptלִהְיֹתto beלָכֶםto youלֵאלֹהִיםGodוִהְיִיתֶםand you becomeקְדֹשִׁיםholyכִּיbecauseקָדוֹשׁholyאָנִי׃I

    For I am the LORD that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.

46. 46

    זֹאתthisתּוֹרַתthe law ofהַבְּהֵמָהthe livestockוְהָעוֹףand the birdsוְכֹלand allנֶפֶשׁsoulהַחַיָּהthe livingהָרֹמֶשֶׂתthe one which creepsבַּמָּיִםin the waterוּלְכׇל־נֶפֶשׁand to all soulהַשֹּׁרֶצֶתthe one which swarmsעַל־הָאָרֶץ׃upon the land

    This is the law of the beasts, and of the fowl, and of every living creature that moveth in the waters, and of every creature that creepeth upon the earth:

47. 47

    לְהַבְדִּילto separateבֵּיןbetweenהַטָּמֵאthe uncleanוּבֵיןand betweenהַטָּהֹרthe cleanוּבֵיןand betweenהַחַיָּהthe livingהַנֶּאֱכֶלֶתthe one which is eatenוּבֵיןand betweenהַחַיָּהthe livingאֲשֶׁרwhichלֹאnotתֵאָכֵל׃it will be eaten

    To make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the beast that may be eaten and the beast that may not be eaten.
