   And he said unto them, What have I done now in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abi-ezer?

   God hath delivered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison of you? Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.

   And Gideon came to Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing them.

   And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, loaves of bread unto the people that follow me; for they be faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian.

   And the princes of Succoth said, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thine army?

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidגִּדְעוֹןGid/ONGideonלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeבְּתֵתbe/TETwhen has deliveredיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶת־זֶבַחet-ZE/vachZebahוְאֶת־צַלְמֻנָּעve/ET-tsal/mun/NAand Zalmunnaבְּיָדִיbe/ya/DIinto my handוְדַשְׁתִּיve/dash/TIand I will threshאֶת־בְּשַׂרְכֶםet-be/sar/KHEMyour fleshאֶת־קוֹצֵיet-ko/TSEwith the thorns ofהַמִּדְבָּרham/mid/BARthe wildernessוְאֶת־הַבַּרְקֳנִים׃ve/ET-hab/bar/ko/NIMand with the briers

   And Gideon said, Therefore when the LORD hath delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into mine hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.

   וַיַּעַלvay/YA/aland went upמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereפְּנוּאֵלPe/nu/ELto Penuelוַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand spokeאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themכָּזֹאתka/ZOTlikewiseוַיַּעֲנוּvay/ya/a/NUand answeredאוֹתוֹo/TOhimאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe men ofפְנוּאֵלFe/nu/ELPenuelכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasעָנוּa/NUhad answeredאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe men ofסֻכּוֹת׃Suk/KOTSuccoth

   And he went up thence to Penuel, and spake unto them likewise: and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered him.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidגַּם־לְאַנְשֵׁיgam-le/an/SHEalso to the men ofפְנוּאֵלFe/nu/ELPenuelלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingבְּשׁוּבִיbe/shu/VIwhen I returnבְשָׁלוֹםve/sha/LOMin peaceאֶתֹּץet/TOTSI will break downאֶת־הַמִּגְדָּלet-ham/mig/DALthe towerהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

   And he spake also unto the men of Penuel, saying, When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower.

    וְזֶבַחve/ZE/vachand Zebahוְצַלְמֻנָּעve/Tsal/mun/NAand Zalmunnaבַּקַּרְקֹרbak/Kar/KORin Karkorוּמַחֲנֵיהֶםu/ma/cha/ne/HEMand their armiesעִמָּםim/MAMwith themכַּחֲמֵשֶׁת־עָשָׂרka/cha/ME/shet-a/SARabout fifteenאֶלֶףE/lefthousandכֹּלkolallהַנּוֹתָרִיםhan/no/ta/RIMwho were leftמִכֹּלmik/KOLof allמַחֲנֵהma/cha/NEthe camp ofבְנֵי־קֶדֶםve/NE-KE/demthe children of the eastוְהַנֹּפְלִיםve/han/nof/LIMand the fallen wereמֵאָהme/Aa hundredוְעֶשְׂרִיםve/es/RIMand twentyאֶלֶףE/lefthousandאִישׁishmenשֹׁלֵף־חָרֶב׃SHO/lef-CHA/revthat drew sword

    Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hosts with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that were left of all the hosts of the children of the east: for there fell an hundred and twenty thousand men that drew sword.

    וַיַּעַלvay/YA/aland went upגִּדְעוֹןGid/ONGideonדֶּרֶךְDE/rekhby the way ofהַשְּׁכוּנֵיhash/she/khu/NEthose who dweltבׇאֳהָלִיםvo/o/ha/LIMin tentsמִקֶּדֶםmik/KE/demon the east ofלְנֹבַחLe/NO/vachNobahוְיׇגְבְּהָהve/Yog/be/HAand Jogbehahוַיַּךְvay/YAKHand struckאֶת־הַמַּחֲנֶהet-ham/ma/cha/NEthe campוְהַמַּחֲנֶהve/ham/ma/cha/NEfor the campהָיָהha/YAwasבֶטַח׃VE/tachsecure

    And Gideon went up by the way of them that dwelt in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smote the host: for the host was secure.

    וַיָּנֻסוּvay/ya/NU/suand fledזֶבַחZE/vachZebahוְצַלְמֻנָּעve/Tsal/mun/NAand Zalmunnaוַיִּרְדֹּףvay/yir/DOFand he pursuedאַחֲרֵיהֶםa/cha/re/HEMafter themוַיִּלְכֹּדvay/yil/KODand tookאֶת־שְׁנֵיet-she/NEthe twoמַלְכֵיmal/KHEkings ofמִדְיָןMid/YANMidianאֶת־זֶבַחet-ZE/vachZebahוְאֶת־צַלְמֻנָּעve/ET-tsal/mun/NAand Zalmunnaוְכׇל־הַמַּחֲנֶהve/KHOL-ham/ma/cha/NEand all the campהֶחֱרִיד׃he/che/RIDhe routed

    And when Zebah and Zalmunna fled, he pursued after them, and took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfited all the host.

    וַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovand returnedגִּדְעוֹןGid/ONGideonבֶּן־יוֹאָשׁben-Yo/ASHthe son of Joashמִן־הַמִּלְחָמָהmin-ham/mil/cha/MAfrom the battleמִלְמַעֲלֵהmil/ma/a/LEby the ascent ofהֶחָרֶס׃He/CHA/resHeres

    And Gideon the son of Joash returned from battle before the sun was up,

14. 14

    וַיִּלְכׇּד־נַעַרvay/yil/KOD-NA/arand he caught a young manמֵאַנְשֵׁיme/an/SHEof the men ofסֻכּוֹתSuk/KOTSuccothוַיִּשְׁאָלֵהוּvay/yish/a/LE/huand questioned himוַיִּכְתֹּבvay/yikh/TOVand he wrote downאֵלָיוe/LAYVfor himאֶת־שָׂרֵיet-sa/REthe princes ofסֻכּוֹתSuk/KOTSuccothוְאֶת־זְקֵנֶיהָve/ET-ze/ke/NE/haand its eldersשִׁבְעִיםshiv/IMseventyוְשִׁבְעָהve/shiv/Aand sevenאִישׁ׃ishmen

    And caught a young man of the men of Succoth, and enquired of him: and he described unto him the princes of Succoth, and the elders thereof, even threescore and seventeen men.

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameאֶל־אַנְשֵׁיel-an/SHEto the men ofסֻכּוֹתSuk/KOTSuccothוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdזֶבַחZE/vachZebahוְצַלְמֻנָּעve/Tsal/mun/NAand Zalmunnaאֲשֶׁרa/SHERabout whomחֵרַפְתֶּםche/raf/TEMyou tauntedאוֹתִיo/TImeלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהֲכַףha/KHAFis the hand ofזֶבַחZE/vachZebahוְצַלְמֻנָּעve/Tsal/mun/NAand Zalmunnaעַתָּהat/TAnowבְּיָדֶךָbe/ya/DE/khain your handכִּיkithatנִתֵּןnit/TENwe should giveלַאֲנָשֶׁיךָla/a/na/SHE/khato your menהַיְּעֵפִיםhay/ye/e/FIMwho are wearyלָחֶם׃LA/chembread

    And he came unto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, with whom ye did upbraid me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thy men that are weary?

    וַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand tookאֶת־זִקְנֵיet-zik/NEthe elders ofהָעִירha/IRthe cityוְאֶת־קוֹצֵיve/ET-ko/TSEand the thorns ofהַמִּדְבָּרham/mid/BARthe wildernessוְאֶת־הַבַּרְקֳנִיםve/ET-hab/bar/ko/NIMand the briersוַיֹּדַעvay/YO/daand he taughtבָּהֶםba/HEMwith themאֵת־אַנְשֵׁיet-an/SHEthe men ofסֻכּוֹת׃Suk/KOTSuccoth

    And he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth.

17. 17

    וְאֶת־מִגְדַּלve/ET-mig/DALand the tower ofפְּנוּאֵלPe/nu/ELPenuelנָתָץna/TATShe broke downוַיַּהֲרֹגvay/ya/ha/ROGand slewאֶת־אַנְשֵׁיet-an/SHEthe men ofהָעִיר׃ha/IRthe city

    And he beat down the tower of Penuel, and slew the men of the city.

18. 18

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־זֶבַחel-ZE/vachto Zebahוְאֶל־צַלְמֻנָּעve/EL-tsal/mun/NAand Zalmunnaאֵיפֹהe/FOwhat manner ofהָאֲנָשִׁיםha/a/na/SHIMthe menאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomהֲרַגְתֶּםha/rag/TEMyou slewבְּתָבוֹרbe/Ta/VORat Taborוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidכָּמוֹךָka/MO/khaas you areכְמוֹהֶםkhe/mo/HEMso were theyאֶחָדe/CHADeach oneכְּתֹאַרke/TO/arlike the form ofבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    Then said he unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were they whom ye slew at Tabor? And they answered, As thou art, so were they; each one resembled the children of a king.

19. 19

    וַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand he saidאַחַיa/CHAYmy brothersבְּנֵי־אִמִּיbe/NE-im/MIthe sons of my motherהֵםhemthey wereחַי־יְהֹוָהchay-Adonaias the LORD livesלוּluifהַחֲיִתֶםha/cha/yi/TEMyou had saved aliveאוֹתָםo/TAMthemלֹאlonotהָרַגְתִּיha/RAG/tiI would slayאֶתְכֶם׃et/KHEMyou

    And he said, They were my brethren, even the sons of my mother: as the LORD liveth, if ye had saved them alive, I would not slay you.

20. 20

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלְיֶתֶרle/YE/terto Jetherבְּכוֹרוֹbe/kho/ROhis firstbornקוּםkumrise upהֲרֹגha/ROGslayאוֹתָםo/TAMthemוְלֹא־שָׁלַףve/LO-sha/LAFbut did not drawהַנַּעַרhan/NA/arthe youthחַרְבּוֹchar/BOhis swordכִּיkiforיָרֵאya/REhe fearedכִּיkibecauseעוֹדֶנּוּo/DEN/nuhe was stillנָעַר׃NA/ara youth

    And he said unto Jether his firstborn, Up, and slay them. But the youth drew not his sword: for he feared, because he was yet a youth.

21. 21

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidזֶבַחZE/vachZebahוְצַלְמֻנָּעve/Tsal/mun/NAand Zalmunnaקוּםkumriseאַתָּהat/TAyouוּפְגַע־בָּנוּu/fe/GA-BA/nuand fall upon usכִּיkiforכָאִישׁkha/ISHas the man isגְּבוּרָתוֹge/vu/ra/TOso is his strengthוַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand aroseגִּדְעוֹןGid/ONGideonוַיַּהֲרֹגvay/ya/ha/ROGand slewאֶת־זֶבַחet-ZE/vachZebahוְאֶת־צַלְמֻנָּעve/ET-tsal/mun/NAand Zalmunnaוַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand tookאֶת־הַשַּׂהֲרֹנִיםet-has/sa/ha/ro/NIMthe crescentsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat wereבְּצַוְּארֵיbe/tsav/ve/REon the necks ofגְמַלֵּיהֶם׃ge/mal/le/HEMtheir camels

    Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, Rise thou, and fall upon us: for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gideon arose, and slew Zebah and Zalmunna, and took away the ornaments that were on their camels' necks.

22. 22

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאִישׁ־יִשְׂרָאֵלish-Yis/ra/ELthe men of Israelאֶל־גִּדְעוֹןel-Gid/ONto Gideonמְשָׁל־בָּנוּme/SHAL-BA/nurule over usגַּם־אַתָּהgam-at/TAboth youגַּם־בִּנְךָgam-bin/KHAand your sonגַּםgamand alsoבֶּן־בְּנֶךָben-be/NE/khayour son’s sonכִּיkiforהוֹשַׁעְתָּנוּho/sha/TA/nuyou have saved usמִיַּדmiy/YADfrom the hand ofמִדְיָן׃Mid/YANMidian

    Then the men of Israel said unto Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son's son also: for thou hast delivered us from the hand of Midian.

23. 23

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵהֶםa/le/HEMto themגִּדְעוֹןGid/ONGideonלֹא־אֶמְשֹׁלlo-em/SHOLwill not ruleאֲנִיa/NIIבָּכֶםba/KHEMover youוְלֹא־יִמְשֹׁלve/LO-yim/SHOLnor shall ruleבְּנִיbe/NImy sonבָּכֶםba/KHEMover youיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDיִמְשֹׁלyim/SHOLshall ruleבָּכֶם׃ba/KHEMover you

    And Gideon said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the LORD shall rule over you.

24. 24

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵהֶםa/le/HEMto themגִּדְעוֹןGid/ONGideonאֶשְׁאֲלָהesh/a/LAlet me askמִכֶּםmik/KEMof youשְׁאֵלָהshe/e/LAa requestוּתְנוּ־לִיu/te/NU-liand give meאִישׁishevery manנֶזֶםNE/zemthe ring ofשְׁלָלוֹshe/la/LOhis spoilכִּי־נִזְמֵיki-niz/MEfor rings ofזָהָבza/HAVgoldלָהֶםla/HEMthey hadכִּיkibecauseיִשְׁמְעֵאלִיםYish/me/e/LIMIshmaelitesהֵם׃hemthey were

    And Gideon said unto them, I would desire a request of you, that ye would give me every man the earrings of his prey. (For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)

25. 25

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidנָתוֹןna/TONgiveנִתֵּןnit/TENwe will giveוַיִּפְרְשׂוּvay/yif/re/SUand they spread outאֶת־הַשִּׂמְלָהet-has/sim/LAthe garmentוַיַּשְׁלִיכוּvay/yash/LI/khuand threwשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathereאִישׁishevery manנֶזֶםNE/zemthe ring ofשְׁלָלוֹ׃she/la/LOhis spoil

    And they answered, We will willingly give them. And they spread a garment, and did cast therein every man the earrings of his prey.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand wasמִשְׁקַלmish/KALthe weight ofנִזְמֵיniz/MEthe rings ofהַזָּהָבhaz/za/HAVthe goldאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatשָׁאָלsha/ALhe requestedאֶלֶףE/lefa thousandוּשְׁבַע־מֵאוֹתu/she/VA-me/OTand seven hundredזָהָבza/HAVof goldלְבַדle/VADbesidesמִן־הַשַּׂהֲרֹנִיםmin-has/sa/ha/ro/NIMthe crescentsוְהַנְּטִיפוֹתve/han/ne/ti/FOTand the pendantsוּבִגְדֵיu/vig/DEand garments ofהָאַרְגָּמָןha/ar/ga/MANthe purpleשֶׁעַלshe/ALthat were onמַלְכֵיmal/KHEthe kings ofמִדְיָןMid/YANMidianוּלְבַדu/le/VADand besidesמִן־הָעֲנָקוֹתmin-ha/a/na/KOTfrom the necklacesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat wereבְּצַוְּארֵיbe/tsav/ve/REon the necks ofגְמַלֵּיהֶם׃ge/mal/le/HEMtheir camels

    And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; beside ornaments, and collars, and purple raiment that was on the kings of Midian, and beside the chains that were about their camels' necks.

    וַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he madeאוֹתוֹo/TOitגִדְעוֹןGid/ONGideonלְאֵפוֹדle/e/FODinto an ephodוַיַּצֵּגvay/yats/TSEGand putאוֹתוֹo/TOitבְעִירוֹve/i/ROin his cityבְּעׇפְרָהbe/Of/RAin Ophrahוַיִּזְנוּvay/yiz/NUand played the harlotכׇל־יִשְׂרָאֵלkhol-Yis/ra/ELall Israelאַחֲרָיוa/cha/RAYVafter itשָׁםshamthereוַיְהִיvay/HIand it becameלְגִדְעוֹןle/Gid/ONto Gideonוּלְבֵיתוֹu/le/ve/TOand to his houseלְמוֹקֵשׁ׃le/mo/KESHa snare

    And Gideon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel went thither a whoring after it: which thing became a snare unto Gideon, and to his house.

    וַיִּכָּנַעvay/yik/ka/NAand was subduedמִדְיָןMid/YANMidianלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוְלֹאve/LOand notיָסְפוּya/se/FUdid they againלָשֵׂאתla/SETto lift upרֹאשָׁםro/SHAMtheir headוַתִּשְׁקֹטvat/tish/KOTand restedהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landאַרְבָּעִיםar/ba/IMfortyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsבִּימֵיbi/MEin the days ofגִדְעוֹן׃Gid/ONGideon

    Thus was Midian subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted up their heads no more. And the country was in quietness forty years in the days of Gideon.

29. 29

    וַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentיְרֻבַּעַלYe/rub/BA/alJerubbaalבֶּן־יוֹאָשׁben-Yo/ASHthe son of Joashוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevand dweltבְּבֵיתוֹ׃be/ve/TOin his house

    And Jerubbaal the son of Joash went and dwelt in his own house.

30. 30

    וּלְגִדְעוֹןu/Le/gid/ONand to Gideonהָיוּha/YUwereשִׁבְעִיםshiv/IMseventyבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsיֹצְאֵיyots/Ewho came out ofיְרֵכוֹye/re/KHOhis loinsכִּי־נָשִׁיםki-na/SHIMfor wivesרַבּוֹתrab/BOTmanyהָיוּha/YUwereלוֹ׃loto him

    And Gideon had threescore and ten sons of his body begotten: for he had many wives.

31. 31

    וּפִילַגְשׁוֹu/fi/lag/SHOand his concubineאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wasבִּשְׁכֶםBish/KHEMat Shechemיָלְדָה־לּוֹya/le/DA-lobore himגַם־הִיאgam-hishe alsoבֵּןbena sonוַיָּשֶׂםvay/YA/semand he setאֶת־שְׁמוֹet-she/MOhis nameאֲבִימֶלֶךְ׃A/vi/ME/lekhAbimelech

    And his concubine that was in Shechem, she also bare him a son, whose name he called Abimelech.

32. 32

    וַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand diedגִּדְעוֹןGid/ONGideonבֶּן־יוֹאָשׁben-Yo/ASHthe son of Joashבְּשֵׂיבָהbe/se/VAin an old ageטוֹבָהto/VAgoodוַיִּקָּבֵרvay/yik/ka/VERand was buriedבְּקֶבֶרbe/KE/verin the tomb ofיוֹאָשׁYo/ASHJoashאָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherבְּעׇפְרָהbe/Of/RAin OphrahאֲבִיA/VIthe Abi-הָעֶזְרִי׃ha/ez/RIezrite

    And Gideon the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the sepulchre of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abi-ezrites.

33. 33

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERas soon asמֵתmetwas deadגִּדְעוֹןGid/ONGideonוַיָּשׁוּבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuthat turned againבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיִּזְנוּvay/yiz/NUand played the harlotאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterהַבְּעָלִיםhab/Be/a/LIMthe Baalimוַיָּשִׂימוּvay/ya/SI/muand madeלָהֶםla/HEMfor themselvesבַּעַלBA/alBaal-בְּרִיתbe/RITberithלֵאלֹהִים׃le/lo/HIMas god

    And it came to pass, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and went a whoring after Baalim, and made Baal-berith their god.

34. 34

    וְלֹאve/LOand notזָכְרוּza/khe/RUrememberedבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיהֶםe/lo/he/HEMtheir Godהַמַּצִּילham/mats/TSILwho had deliveredאוֹתָםo/TAMthemמִיַּדmiy/YADfrom the hand ofכׇּל־אֹיְבֵיהֶםkol-oy/ve/HEMall their enemiesמִסָּבִיב׃mis/sa/VIVon every side

    And the children of Israel remembered not the LORD their God, who had delivered them out of the hands of all their enemies on every side:

35. 35

    וְלֹא־עָשׂוּve/LO-a/SUnor did they showחֶסֶדCHE/sedkindnessעִם־בֵּיתim-betto the house ofיְרֻבַּעַלYe/rub/BA/alJerubbaalגִּדְעוֹןGid/ONGideonכְּכׇל־הַטּוֹבָהke/KHOL-hat/to/VAaccording to all the goodאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשָׂהa/SAhe had doneעִם־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃im-Yis/ra/ELto Israel

    Neither shewed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, namely, Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shewed unto Israel.
