   Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.

   And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.

   Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand.

   And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say unto thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go.

   So he brought down the people unto the water: and the LORD said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand wasמִסְפַּרmis/PARthe number ofהַמְלַקְקִיםham/lak/KIMthose who lappedבְּיָדָםbe/ya/DAMwith their handאֶל־פִּיהֶםel-pi/HEMto their mouthשְׁלֹשׁshe/LOSHthreeמֵאוֹתme/OThundredאִישׁishmenוְכֹלve/KHOLand allיֶתֶרYE/terthe rest ofהָעָםha/AMthe peopleכָּרְעוּka/re/Ukneltעַל־בִּרְכֵיהֶםal-bir/khe/HEMon their kneesלִשְׁתּוֹתlish/TOTto drinkמָיִם׃MA/yimwater

   And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.

   And the LORD said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.

   וַיִּקְחוּvay/yik/CHUand they tookאֶת־צֵדָהet-tse/DAprovisionsהָעָםha/AMthe peopleבְּיָדָםbe/ya/DAMin their handוְאֵתve/ETandשׁוֹפְרֹתֵיהֶםshof/ro/te/HEMtheir trumpetsוְאֵתve/ETandכׇּל־אִישׁkol-ishall the men ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelשִׁלַּחshil/LACHhe sentאִישׁishevery manלְאֹהָלָיוle/o/ha/LAYVto his tentsוּבִשְׁלֹשׁ־מֵאוֹתu/vish/LOSH-me/OTbut the three hundredהָאִישׁha/ISHmenהֶחֱזִיקhe/che/ZIKhe retainedוּמַחֲנֵהu/ma/cha/NEand the camp ofמִדְיָןMid/YANMidianהָיָהha/YAwasלוֹloto himמִתַּחַתmit/TA/chatbelowבָּעֵמֶק׃ba/E/mekin the valley

   So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men: and the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבַּלַּיְלָהbal/LAY/lain the nightהַהוּאha/HUthatוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDקוּםkumariseרֵדredgo downבַּמַּחֲנֶהbam/ma/cha/NEagainst the campכִּיkiforנְתַתִּיוne/tat/TIVI have given itבְּיָדֶךָ׃be/ya/DE/khainto your hand

   And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Arise, get thee down unto the host; for I have delivered it into thine hand.

10. 10

    וְאִם־יָרֵאve/IM-ya/REbut if afraidאַתָּהat/TAyou areלָרֶדֶתla/RE/detto go downרֵדredgo downאַתָּהat/TAyouוּפֻרָהu/Fu/RAwith Purahנַעַרְךָna/ar/KHAyour servantאֶל־הַמַּחֲנֶה׃el-ham/ma/cha/NEto the camp

    But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant down to the host:

11. 11

    וְשָׁמַעְתָּve/sha/ma/TAand you shall hearמַה־יְדַבֵּרוּma-ye/dab/BE/ruwhat they sayוְאַחַרve/a/CHARand afterwardתֶּחֱזַקְנָהte/che/ZAK/nashall be strengthenedיָדֶיךָya/DE/khayour handsוְיָרַדְתָּve/ya/rad/TAand you shall go downבַּמַּחֲנֶהbam/ma/cha/NEagainst the campוַיֵּרֶדvay/YE/redthen went downהוּאhuheוּפֻרָהu/Fu/RAwith Purahנַעֲרוֹna/a/ROhis servantאֶל־קְצֵהel-ke/TSEto the outer edge ofהַחֲמֻשִׁיםha/cha/mu/SHIMthe armed menאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereבַּמַּחֲנֶה׃bam/ma/cha/NEin the camp

    And thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thine hands be strengthened to go down unto the host. Then went he down with Phurah his servant unto the outside of the armed men that were in the host.

    וּמִדְיָןu/Mid/YANand Midianוַעֲמָלֵקva/A/ma/LEKand Amalekוְכׇל־בְּנֵי־קֶדֶםve/KHOL-be/NE-KE/demand all the children of the eastנֹפְלִיםnof/LIMwere lyingבָּעֵמֶקba/E/mekin the valleyכָּאַרְבֶּהka/ar/BElike locustsלָרֹבla/ROVfor multitudeוְלִגְמַלֵּיהֶםve/lig/mal/le/HEMand their camelsאֵיןenthere was noמִסְפָּרmis/PARnumberכַּחוֹלka/CHOLlike the sandשֶׁעַל־שְׂפַתshe/AL-se/FATthat is on the shore ofהַיָּםhay/YAMthe seaלָרֹב׃la/ROVfor multitude

    And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameגִדְעוֹןGid/ONGideonוְהִנֵּה־אִישׁve/hin/NE-ishand behold a manמְסַפֵּרme/sap/PERwas tellingלְרֵעֵהוּle/re/E/huto his fellowחֲלוֹםcha/LOMa dreamוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdחֲלוֹםcha/LOMa dreamחָלַמְתִּיcha/LAM/tiI dreamedוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdצְלִילtse/LILa cake ofלֶחֶםLE/chembreadשְׂעֹרִיםse/o/RIMbarleyמִתְהַפֵּךְmit/hap/PEKHwas tumblingבְּמַחֲנֵהbe/ma/cha/NEin the camp ofמִדְיָןMid/YANMidianוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameעַד־הָאֹהֶלad-ha/O/helto the tentוַיַּכֵּהוּvay/yak/KE/huand struck itוַיִּפֹּלvay/yip/POLand it fellוַיַּהַפְכֵהוּvay/ya/haf/KHE/huand overturned itלְמַעְלָהle/MA/laupwardוְנָפַלve/na/FALand fellהָאֹהֶל׃ha/O/helthe tent

    And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredרֵעֵהוּre/E/huhis fellowוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵיןenis nothingזֹאתzotthisבִּלְתִּיbil/TIelseאִם־חֶרֶבim-CHE/revbut the sword ofגִּדְעוֹןGid/ONGideonבֶּן־יוֹאָשׁben-Yo/ASHthe son of Joashאִישׁisha manיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELof Israelנָתַןna/TANhas givenהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodבְּיָדוֹbe/ya/DOinto his handאֶת־מִדְיָןet-Mid/YANMidianוְאֶת־כׇּל־הַמַּחֲנֶה׃ve/ET-kol-ham/ma/cha/NEand all the camp

    And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִשְׁמֹעַkhish/MO/awhen heardגִּדְעוֹןGid/ONGideonאֶת־מִסְפַּרet-mis/PARthe telling ofהַחֲלוֹםha/cha/LOMthe dreamוְאֶת־שִׁבְרוֹve/ET-shiv/ROand its interpretationוַיִּשְׁתָּחוּvay/yish/TA/chuand he worshipedוַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovand he returnedאֶל־מַחֲנֵהel-ma/cha/NEto the camp ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidקוּמוּKU/muariseכִּי־נָתַןki-na/TANfor has givenיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבְּיֶדְכֶםbe/yed/KHEMinto your handאֶת־מַחֲנֵהet-ma/cha/NEthe camp ofמִדְיָן׃Mid/YANMidian

    And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.

16. 16

    וַיַּחַץvay/YA/chatsand he dividedאֶת־שְׁלֹשׁ־מֵאוֹתet-she/LOSH-me/OTthree hundredהָאִישׁha/ISHmenשְׁלֹשָׁהshe/lo/SHAthreeרָאשִׁיםra/SHIMcompaniesוַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand gaveשׁוֹפָרוֹתsho/fa/ROTtrumpetsבְּיַד־כֻּלָּםbe/YAD-kul/LAMinto the hands of all of themוְכַדִּיםve/khad/DIMand jarsרֵיקִיםre/KIMemptyוְלַפִּדִיםve/lap/pi/DIMand torchesבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHinsideהַכַּדִּים׃hak/kad/DIMthe jars

    And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man's hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.

17. 17

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themמִמֶּנִּיmim/MEN/nifrom meתִרְאוּtir/Ulookוְכֵןve/KHENand soתַּעֲשׂוּta/a/SUdoוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIבָאvaam comingבִּקְצֵהbik/TSEto the edge ofהַמַּחֲנֶהham/ma/cha/NEthe campוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beכַאֲשֶׁר־אֶעֱשֶׂהkha/a/SHER-e/e/SEas I doכֵּןkensoתַּעֲשׂוּן׃ta/a/SUNyou shall do

    And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so shall ye do.

18. 18

    וְתָקַעְתִּיve/ta/ka/TIwhen I blowבַּשּׁוֹפָרbash/sho/FARthe trumpetאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIוְכׇל־אֲשֶׁרve/KHOL-a/SHERand all who areאִתִּיit/TIwith meוּתְקַעְתֶּםu/te/ka/TEMthen you shall blowבַּשּׁוֹפָרוֹתbash/sho/fa/ROTthe trumpetsגַּם־אַתֶּםgam-at/TEMyou alsoסְבִיבוֹתse/vi/VOTon every side ofכׇּל־הַמַּחֲנֶהkol-ham/ma/cha/NEall the campוַאֲמַרְתֶּםva/a/mar/TEMand you shall sayלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaifor the LORDוּלְגִדְעוֹן׃u/Le/gid/ONand for Gideon

    When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameגִדְעוֹןGid/ONGideonוּמֵאָה־אִישׁu/me/A-ishand the hundred menאֲשֶׁר־אִתּוֹa/SHER-it/TOwho were with himבִּקְצֵהbik/TSEto the edge ofהַמַּחֲנֶהham/ma/cha/NEthe campרֹאשׁroshat the beginning ofהָאַשְׁמֹרֶתha/ash/MO/retthe watchהַתִּיכוֹנָהhat/ti/kho/NAthe middleאַךְakhonlyהָקֵםha/KEMsetהֵקִימוּhe/KI/muthey had setאֶת־הַשֹּׁמְרִיםet-hash/shom/RIMthe watchmenוַיִּתְקְעוּvay/yit/ke/Uand they blewבַּשּׁוֹפָרוֹתbash/sho/fa/ROTthe trumpetsוְנָפוֹץve/na/FOTSand smashedהַכַּדִּיםhak/kad/DIMthe jarsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat wereבְּיָדָם׃be/ya/DAMin their hand

    So Gideon, and the hundred men that were with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that were in their hands.

    וַיַּעַמְדוּvay/ya/am/DUand they stoodאִישׁishevery manתַּחְתָּיוtach/TAYVin his placeסָבִיבsa/VIVround aboutלַמַּחֲנֶהlam/ma/cha/NEthe campוַיָּרׇץvay/YA/rotsand ranכׇּל־הַמַּחֲנֶהkol-ham/ma/cha/NEall the campוַיָּרִיעוּvay/ya/RI/uand cried out[וַיָּנוּסוּ]׃vay/ya/NU/suand fled

    And they stood every man in his place round about the camp: and all the host ran, and cried, and fled.

    וַיִּתְקְעוּvay/yit/ke/Uand blewשְׁלֹשׁ־מֵאוֹתshe/LOSH-me/OTthree hundredהַשּׁוֹפָרוֹתhash/sho/fa/ROTthe trumpetsוַיָּשֶׂםvay/YA/semand setיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֵת־חֶרֶבet-CHE/revthe sword ofאִישׁishevery manבְּרֵעֵהוּbe/re/E/huagainst his fellowוּבְכׇל־הַמַּחֲנֶהu/ve/KHOL-ham/ma/cha/NEand through all the campוַיָּנׇסvay/YA/nosand fledהַמַּחֲנֶהham/ma/cha/NEthe campעַד־בֵּיתad-Betas far as Beth-הַשִּׁטָּהhash/shit/TAshittahצְרֵרָתָהTse/re/RA/tatoward Zererahעַדadas far asשְׂפַת־אָבֵלse/FAT-A/VELthe border of Abel-מְחוֹלָהme/cho/LAmeholahעַל־טַבָּת׃al-Tab/BATby Tabbath

    And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the LORD set every man's sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host: and the host fled to Beth-shittah in Zererath, and to the border of Abel-meholah, unto Tabbath.

23. 23

    וַיִּצָּעֵקvay/yits/tsa/EKand were gatheredאִישׁ־יִשְׂרָאֵלish-Yis/ra/ELthe men of Israelמִנַּפְתָּלִיmin/Naf/ta/LIfrom Naphtaliוּמִן־אָשֵׁרu/MIN-a/SHERand from Asherוּמִן־כׇּל־מְנַשֶּׁהu/MIN-kol-me/nash/SHEand from all Manassehוַיִּרְדְּפוּvay/yir/de/FUand pursuedאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterמִדְיָן׃Mid/YANMidian

    And the men of Israel gathered themselves together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after the Midianites.

    And Gideon sent messengers throughout all mount Ephraim, saying, Come down against the Midianites, and take before them the waters unto Beth-barah and Jordan. Then all the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and took the waters unto Beth-barah and Jordan.

    וַיִּלְכְּדוּvay/yil/ke/DUand they tookשְׁנֵי־שָׂרֵיshe/NE-sa/REthe two princes ofמִדְיָןMid/YANMidianאֶת־עֹרֵבet-O/REVOrebוְאֶת־זְאֵבve/ET-ze/EVand Zeebוַיַּהַרְגוּvay/ya/har/GUand slewאֶת־עוֹרֵבet-O/REVOrebבְּצוּר־עוֹרֵבbe/TSUR-o/REVat the rock of Orebוְאֶת־זְאֵבve/ET-ze/EVand Zeebהָרְגוּha/re/GUthey slewבְיֶקֶב־זְאֵבve/YE/kev-ze/EVat the winepress of Zeebוַיִּרְדְּפוּvay/yir/de/FUand pursuedאֶל־מִדְיָןel-Mid/YANMidianוְרֹאשׁ־עֹרֵבve/ROSH-o/REVand the head of Orebוּזְאֵבu/Ze/EVand Zeebהֵבִיאוּhe/VI/uthey broughtאֶל־גִּדְעוֹןel-Gid/ONto Gideonמֵעֵבֶרme/E/verfrom beyondלַיַרְדֵּן׃la/Yar/DENthe Jordan

    And they took two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side Jordan.
