   Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had not known all the wars of Canaan;

   רַקrakonlyלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatדַּעַתDA/atmight knowדֹּרוֹתdo/ROTthe generations ofבְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלbe/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelלְלַמְּדָםle/lam/me/DAMto teach themמִלְחָמָהmil/cha/MAwarרַקrakat leastאֲשֶׁר־לְפָנִיםa/SHER-le/fa/NIMthose who beforeלֹאlonotיְדָעוּם׃ye/da/UMhad known it

   Only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing thereof;

   חֲמֵשֶׁתcha/ME/shetfiveסַרְנֵיsar/NEthe lords ofפְלִשְׁתִּיםFe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesוְכׇל־הַכְּנַעֲנִיve/KHOL-hak/ke/na/a/NIand all the Canaanitesוְהַצִּידֹנִיve/hats/Tsi/do/NIand the Zidoniansוְהַחִוִּיve/ha/Chiv/VIand the Hivitesיֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVwho dwelt inהַרHarMountהַלְּבָנוֹןHal/le/va/NONLebanonמֵהַרme/HARfrom MountבַּעַלBA/alBaal-חֶרְמוֹןcher/MONhermonעַדadtoלְבוֹאLe/VOLeboחֲמָת׃Cha/MATHamath

   Namely, five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that dwelt in mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-hermon unto the entering in of Hamath.

   וַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand they wereלְנַסּוֹתle/nas/SOTfor testingבָּםbamby themאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Yis/ra/ELIsraelלָדַעַתla/DA/atto knowהֲיִשְׁמְעוּha/yish/me/Uwhether they would hearken toאֶת־מִצְוֺתet-mits/VOTthe commandments ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֲשֶׁר־צִוָּהa/SHER-tsiv/VAwhich He commandedאֶת־אֲבוֹתָםet-a/vo/TAMtheir fathersבְּיַד־מֹשֶׁה׃be/YAD-mo/SHEby the hand of Moses

   And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the LORD, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

   וּבְנֵיu/ve/NEand the children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelיָשְׁבוּya/she/VUdweltבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revamongהַכְּנַעֲנִיhak/Ke/na/a/NIthe Canaanitesהַחִתִּיha/Chit/TIthe Hittiteוְהָאֱמֹרִיve/Ha/e/mo/RIand the Amoriteוְהַפְּרִזִּיve/hap/Pe/riz/ZIand the Perizziteוְהַחִוִּיve/ha/Chiv/VIand the Hiviteוְהַיְבוּסִי׃Ve/hay/vu/SIand the Jebusite

   And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, Hittites, and Amorites, and Perizzites, and Hivites, and Jebusites:

   וַיִּקְחוּvay/yik/CHUand they tookאֶת־בְּנוֹתֵיהֶםet-be/no/te/HEMtheir daughtersלָהֶםla/HEMfor themselvesלְנָשִׁיםle/na/SHIMas wivesוְאֶת־בְּנוֹתֵיהֶםve/ET-be/no/te/HEMand their daughtersנָתְנוּna/te/NUthey gaveלִבְנֵיהֶםliv/ne/HEMto their sonsוַיַּעַבְדוּvay/ya/av/DUand they servedאֶת־אֱלֹהֵיהֶם׃et-e/lo/he/HEMtheir gods

   And they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons, and served their gods.

   וַיַּעֲשׂוּvay/ya/a/SUand they didבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelאֶת־הָרַעet-ha/RAevilבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַיִּשְׁכְּחוּvay/yish/ke/CHUand forgotאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיהֶםe/lo/he/HEMtheir Godוַיַּעַבְדוּvay/ya/av/DUand servedאֶת־הַבְּעָלִיםet-Hab/be/a/LIMthe Baalimוְאֶת־הָאֲשֵׁרוֹת׃ve/ET-ha/a/she/ROTand the Asheroth

   And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgat the LORD their God, and served Baalim and the groves.

   וַיִּחַר־אַףvay/YI/char-afand was kindled the anger ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלbe/Yis/ra/ELagainst Israelוַיִּמְכְּרֵםvay/yim/ke/REMand He sold themבְּיַדbe/YADinto the hand ofכּוּשַׁןKu/SHANCushan-רִשְׁעָתַיִםrish/a/TA/yimrishathaimמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofאֲרַםA/RAMAram-נַהֲרָיִםna/ha/RA/yimnaharaimוַיַּעַבְדוּvay/ya/av/DUand servedבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelאֶת־כּוּשַׁןet-Ku/SHANCushan-רִשְׁעָתַיִםrish/a/TA/yimrishathaimשְׁמֹנֶהshe/mo/NEeightשָׁנִים׃sha/NIMyears

   Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushan-rishathaim eight years.

   וַיִּזְעֲקוּvay/yiz/a/KUand when cried outבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelאֶל־יְהֹוָהel-Adonaito the LORDוַיָּקֶםvay/YA/kemraised upיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDמוֹשִׁיעַmo/SHI/aa delivererלִבְנֵיliv/NEfor the children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיֹּשִׁיעֵםvay/yo/shi/EMwho delivered themאֵת־עׇתְנִיאֵלet-Ot/ni/ELOthnielבֶּן־קְנַזben-Ke/NAZthe son of Kenazאֲחִיa/CHIthe brother ofכָלֵבKha/LEVCalebהַקָּטֹןhak/ka/TONyoungerמִמֶּנּוּ׃mim/MEN/nuthan he

   And when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.

    וַתְּהִיvat/te/HIand cameעָלָיוa/LAYVupon himרוּחַ־יְהֹוָהRU/ach-Adonaithe Spirit of the LORDוַיִּשְׁפֹּטvay/yish/POTand he judgedאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Yis/ra/ELIsraelוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outלַמִּלְחָמָהlam/mil/cha/MAto warוַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand gaveיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבְּיָדוֹbe/ya/DOinto his handאֶת־כּוּשַׁןet-Ku/SHANCushan-רִשְׁעָתַיִםrish/a/TA/yimrishathaimמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofאֲרָםA/RAMAramוַתָּעׇזvat/TA/ozand prevailedיָדוֹya/DOhis handעַלaloverכּוּשַׁןKu/SHANCushan-רִשְׁעָתָיִם׃rish/a/TA/yimrishathaim

    And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the LORD delivered Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushan-rishathaim.

    וַתִּשְׁקֹטvat/tish/KOTand restedהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landאַרְבָּעִיםar/ba/IMfortyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand he diedעׇתְנִיאֵלOt/ni/ELOthnielבֶּן־קְנַז׃ben-Ke/NAZthe son of Kenaz

    And the land had rest forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died.

12. 12

    וַיֹּסִפוּvay/yo/SI/fuand againבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTdidהָרַעha/RAevilבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַיְחַזֵּקvay/chaz/ZEKstrengthenedיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶת־עֶגְלוֹןet-Eg/LONEglonמֶלֶךְ־מוֹאָבME/lekh-Mo/AVthe king of Moabעַל־יִשְׂרָאֵלal-Yis/ra/ELagainst Israelעַלalbecauseכִּי־עָשׂוּki-a/SUthat they had doneאֶת־הָרַעet-ha/RAevilבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the LORD.

13. 13

    וַיֶּאֱסֹףvay/ye/e/SOFand gatheredאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאֶת־בְּנֵיet-be/NEthe children ofעַמּוֹןAm/MONAmmonוַעֲמָלֵקva/A/ma/LEKand Amalekוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand he wentוַיַּךְvay/YAKHand struckאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Yis/ra/ELIsraelוַיִּירְשׁוּvay/yi/re/SHUand they possessedאֶת־עִירet-irthe city ofהַתְּמָרִים׃hat/te/ma/RIMthe palm trees

    And he gathered unto him the children of Ammon and Amalek, and went and smote Israel, and possessed the city of palm trees.

14. 14

    וַיַּעַבְדוּvay/ya/av/DUand servedבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelאֶת־עֶגְלוֹןet-Eg/LONEglonמֶלֶךְ־מוֹאָבME/lekh-Mo/AVthe king of Moabשְׁמוֹנֶה־עֶשְׂרֵהshe/mo/NE-es/REeighteenשָׁנָה׃sha/NAyears

    So the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.

15. 15

    וַיִּזְעֲקוּvay/yiz/a/KUbut when cried outבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelאֶל־יְהֹוָהel-Adonaito the LORDוַיָּקֶםvay/YA/kemraised upיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלָהֶםla/HEMfor themמוֹשִׁיעַmo/SHI/aa delivererאֶת־אֵהוּדet-E/HUDEhudבֶּן־גֵּרָאben-Ge/RAthe son of Geraבֶּן־הַיְמִינִיben-Hay/mi/NIthe Benjamiteאִישׁisha manאִטֵּרit/TERrestricted inיַד־יְמִינוֹyad-ye/mi/NOhis right handוַיִּשְׁלְחוּvay/yish/le/CHUand sentבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelבְּיָדוֹbe/ya/DOby himמִנְחָהmin/CHAtributeלְעֶגְלוֹןle/Eg/LONto EglonמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofמוֹאָב׃Mo/AVMoab

    But when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised them up a deliverer, Ehud the son of Gera, a Benjamite, a man lefthanded: and by him the children of Israel sent a present unto Eglon the king of Moab.

    וַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he madeלוֹlofor himselfאֵהוּדE/HUDEhudחֶרֶבCHE/reva swordוְלָהּve/LAwhich hadשְׁנֵיshe/NEtwoפֵיוֹתfe/VOTedgesגֹּמֶדGO/meda cubitאׇרְכָּהּor/KAits lengthוַיַּחְגֹּרvay/yach/GORand he girdedאוֹתָהּo/TAitמִתַּחַתmit/TA/chatunderלְמַדָּיוle/mad/DAYVhis clothesעַלalonיֶרֶךְYE/rekhthighיְמִינוֹ׃ye/mi/NOhis right

    But Ehud made him a dagger which had two edges, of a cubit length; and he did gird it under his raiment upon his right thigh.

17. 17

    וַיַּקְרֵבvay/yak/REVand he broughtאֶת־הַמִּנְחָהet-ham/min/CHAthe tributeלְעֶגְלוֹןle/Eg/LONto EglonמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofמוֹאָבMo/AVMoabוְעֶגְלוֹןve/Eg/LONand Eglonאִישׁisha manבָּרִיאba/RIfatמְאֹד׃me/ODvery

    And he brought the present unto Eglon king of Moab: and Eglon was a very fat man.

18. 18

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasכִּלָּהkil/LAhe had finishedלְהַקְרִיבle/hak/RIVpresentingאֶת־הַמִּנְחָהet-ham/min/CHAthe tributeוַיְשַׁלַּחvay/shal/LACHhe sent awayאֶת־הָעָםet-ha/AMthe peopleנֹשְׂאֵיnos/Ewho carriedהַמִּנְחָה׃ham/min/CHAthe tribute

    And when he had made an end to offer the present, he sent away the people that bare the present.

    וְהוּאve/HUbut heשָׁבshavturned backמִן־הַפְּסִילִיםmin-hap/pe/si/LIMfrom the carved imagesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat wereאֶת־הַגִּלְגָּלet-Hag/gil/GALby Gilgalוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidדְּבַר־סֵתֶרde/VAR-SE/tera secret wordלִיliI haveאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khafor youהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhO kingוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהָסhassilenceוַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uand they went outמֵעָלָיוme/a/LAYVfrom himכׇּל־הָעֹמְדִיםkol-ha/om/DIMall who stoodעָלָיו׃a/LAYVby him

    But he himself turned again from the quarries that were by Gilgal, and said, I have a secret errand unto thee, O king: who said, Keep silence. And all that stood by him went out from him.

    וְאֵהוּדve/E/HUDand Ehudבָּאbacameאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himוְהוּא־יֹשֵׁבve/HU-yo/SHEVnow he was sittingבַּעֲלִיַּתba/a/liy/YATin the upper room ofהַמְּקֵרָהham/me/ke/RAcoolnessאֲשֶׁר־לוֹa/SHER-lowhich was hisלְבַדּוֹle/vad/DOaloneוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵהוּדE/HUDEhudדְּבַר־אֱלֹהִיםde/VAR-e/lo/HIMa word from GodלִיliI haveאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khafor youוַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand he aroseמֵעַלme/ALfromהַכִּסֵּא׃hak/kis/SEhis seat

    And Ehud came unto him; and he was sitting in a summer parlour, which he had for himself alone. And Ehud said, I have a message from God unto thee. And he arose out of his seat.

21. 21

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand put outאֵהוּדE/HUDEhudאֶת־יַדet-yadhandשְׂמֹאלוֹse/mo/LOhis leftוַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand tookאֶת־הַחֶרֶבet-ha/CHE/revthe swordמֵעַלme/ALfromיֶרֶךְYE/rekhthe thigh ofיְמִינוֹye/mi/NOhis rightוַיִּתְקָעֶהָvay/yit/ka/E/haand thrust itבְּבִטְנוֹ׃be/vit/NOinto his belly

    And Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly:

22. 22

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand went inגַם־הַנִּצָּבgam-han/nits/TSAVeven the hiltאַחַרa/CHARafterהַלַּהַבhal/LA/havthe bladeוַיִּסְגֹּרvay/yis/GORand closedהַחֵלֶבha/CHE/levthe fatבְּעַדbe/ADoverהַלַּהַבhal/LA/havthe bladeכִּיkiforלֹאlonotשָׁלַףsha/LAFhe drewהַחֶרֶבha/CHE/revthe swordמִבִּטְנוֹmib/bit/NOout of his bellyוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand came outהַפַּרְשְׁדֹנָה׃hap/par/she/DO/nathe dung

    And the haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed upon the blade, so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly; and the dirt came out.

    וַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEthen went outאֵהוּדE/HUDEhudהַמִּסְדְּרוֹנָהham/mis/de/RO/nathrough the porchוַיִּסְגֹּרvay/yis/GORand shutדַּלְתוֹתdal/TOTthe doors ofהָעֲלִיָּהha/a/liy/YAthe upper roomבַּעֲדוֹba/a/DObehind himוְנָעָל׃ve/na/ALand he locked them

    Then Ehud went forth through the porch, and shut the doors of the parlour upon him, and locked them.

    וְהוּאve/HUwhen heיָצָאya/TSAhad gone outוַעֲבָדָיוva/a/va/DAYVhis servantsבָּאוּBA/ucameוַיִּרְאוּvay/yir/Uand they sawוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdדַּלְתוֹתdal/TOTthe doors ofהָעֲלִיָּהha/a/liy/YAthe upper roomנְעֻלוֹתne/u/LOTwere lockedוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאַךְakhsurelyמֵסִיךְme/SIKHcoveringהוּאhuhe isאֶת־רַגְלָיוet-rag/LAYVhis feetבַּחֲדַרba/cha/DARin the room ofהַמְּקֵרָה׃ham/me/ke/RAcoolness

    When he was gone out, his servants came; and when they saw that, behold, the doors of the parlour were locked, they said, Surely he covereth his feet in his summer chamber.

    וַיָּחִילוּvay/ya/CHI/luand they waitedעַד־בּוֹשׁad-boshuntil embarrassedוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdאֵינֶנּוּe/NEN/nuhe was notפֹתֵחַfo/TE/achopeningדַּלְתוֹתdal/TOTthe doors ofהָעֲלִיָּהha/a/liy/YAthe upper roomוַיִּקְחוּvay/yik/CHUand they tookאֶת־הַמַּפְתֵּחַet-ham/maf/TE/achthe keyוַיִּפְתָּחוּvay/yif/TA/chuand openedוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdאֲדֹנֵיהֶםa/do/ne/HEMtheir lordנֹפֵלno/FELhad fallenאַרְצָהAR/tsato the groundמֵת׃metdead

    And they tarried till they were ashamed: and, behold, he opened not the doors of the parlour; therefore they took a key, and opened them: and, behold, their lord was fallen down dead on the earth.

    וְאֵהוּדve/E/HUDand Ehudנִמְלַטnim/LATescapedעַדadwhileהִתְמַהְמְהָםhit/mah/me/HAMthey delayedוְהוּאve/HUand heעָבַרa/VARpassedאֶת־הַפְּסִילִיםet-hap/pe/si/LIMthe carved imagesוַיִּמָּלֵטvay/yim/ma/LETand escapedהַשְּׂעִירָתָה׃has/Se/i/RA/tato Seirah

    And Ehud escaped while they tarried, and passed beyond the quarries, and escaped unto Seirath.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבְּבוֹאוֹbe/vo/Owhen he had comeוַיִּתְקַעvay/yit/KAthat he blewבַּשּׁוֹפָרbash/sho/FARa trumpetבְּהַרbe/HARin the hill country ofאֶפְרָיִםEf/RA/yimEphraimוַיֵּרְדוּvay/yer/DUand went downעִמּוֹim/MOwith himבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelמִן־הָהָרmin-ha/HARfrom the hill countryוְהוּאve/HUand heלִפְנֵיהֶם׃lif/ne/HEMbefore them

    And it came to pass, when he was come, that he blew a trumpet in the mountain of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the mount, and he before them.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵהֶםa/le/HEMto themרִדְפוּrid/FUfollowאַחֲרַיa/cha/RAYafter meכִּי־נָתַןki-na/TANfor has deliveredיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶת־אֹיְבֵיכֶםet-oy/ve/KHEMyour enemiesאֶת־מוֹאָבet-Mo/AVMoabבְּיֶדְכֶםbe/yed/KHEMinto your handsוַיֵּרְדוּvay/yer/DUand they went downאַחֲרָיוa/cha/RAYVafter himוַיִּלְכְּדוּvay/yil/ke/DUand seizedאֶת־מַעְבְּרוֹתet-ma/be/ROTthe fords ofהַיַּרְדֵּןhay/Yar/DENthe Jordanלְמוֹאָבle/Mo/AVtoward Moabוְלֹא־נָתְנוּve/LO-na/te/NUand did not allowאִישׁisha manלַעֲבֹר׃la/a/VORto cross over

    And he said unto them, Follow after me: for the LORD hath delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. And they went down after him, and took the fords of Jordan toward Moab, and suffered not a man to pass over.

    וַיַּכּוּvay/yak/KUand they struckאֶת־מוֹאָבet-Mo/AVMoabבָּעֵתba/ETat the timeהַהִיאha/HIthatכַּעֲשֶׂרֶתka/a/SE/retabout tenאֲלָפִיםa/la/FIMthousandאִישׁishmenכׇּל־שָׁמֵןkol-sha/MENall robustוְכׇל־אִישׁve/KHOL-ishand all men ofחָיִלCHA/yilvalorוְלֹאve/LOand notנִמְלַטnim/LATescapedאִישׁ׃isha man

    And they slew of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, all lusty, and all men of valour; and there escaped not a man.

    So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest fourscore years.

    וְאַחֲרָיוve/a/cha/RAYVand after himהָיָהha/YAwasשַׁמְגַּרSham/GARShamgarבֶּן־עֲנָתben-A/NATthe son of Anathוַיַּךְvay/YAKHwho struckאֶת־פְּלִשְׁתִּיםet-Pe/lish/TIMPhilistinesשֵׁשׁ־מֵאוֹתshesh-me/OTsix hundredאִישׁishmenבְּמַלְמַדbe/mal/MADwith a goad ofהַבָּקָרhab/ba/KARthe oxenוַיּוֹשַׁעvay/YO/shaand he deliveredגַּם־הוּאgam-huhe alsoאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃et-Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, which slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox goad: and he also delivered Israel.
