1. 1

   And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.

   וְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMand youלֹא־תִכְרְתוּlo-tikh/re/TUyou shall make noבְרִיתve/RITcovenantלְיוֹשְׁבֵיle/yosh/VEwith the inhabitants ofהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisמִזְבְּחוֹתֵיהֶםmiz/be/cho/te/HEMtheir altarsתִּתֹּצוּןtit/to/TSUNyou shall break downוְלֹא־שְׁמַעְתֶּםve/LO-she/ma/TEMbut you have not hearkenedבְּקוֹלִיbe/ko/LIto My voiceמַה־זֹּאתma-zotwhy thisעֲשִׂיתֶם׃a/si/TEMhave you done

   And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?

3. 3

   וְגַםve/GAMtherefore alsoאָמַרְתִּיa/MAR/tiI saidלֹא־אֲגָרֵשׁlo-a/ga/RESHI will not drive outאוֹתָםo/TAMthemמִפְּנֵיכֶםmip/pe/ne/KHEMfrom before youוְהָיוּve/ha/YUbut they shall beלָכֶםla/KHEMto youלְצִדִּיםle/tsid/DIMas thorns in your sidesוֵאלֹהֵיהֶםve/lo/he/HEMand their godsיִהְיוּyih/YUshall beלָכֶםla/KHEMto youלְמוֹקֵשׁ׃le/mo/KESHa snare

   Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכְּדַבֵּרke/dab/BERwhen spokeמַלְאַךְmal/AKHthe angel ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseאֶל־כׇּל־בְּנֵיel-kol-be/NEto all the children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיִּשְׂאוּvay/yis/Ulifted upהָעָםha/AMthe peopleאֶת־קוֹלָםet-ko/LAMtheir voiceוַיִּבְכּוּ׃vay/yiv/KUand they wept

   And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.

   וַיִּקְרְאוּvay/yik/re/Uand they calledשֵׁם־הַמָּקוֹםshem-ham/ma/KOMthe name of the placeהַהוּאha/HUthatבֹּכִיםBo/KHIMBochimוַיִּזְבְּחוּ־שָׁםvay/yiz/be/CHU-shamand they sacrificed thereלַיהֹוָה׃la-Adonaito the LORD

   And they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there unto the LORD.

6. 6

   וַיְשַׁלַּחvay/shal/LACHand sent awayיְהוֹשֻׁעַYe/ho/SHU/aJoshuaאֶת־הָעָםet-ha/AMthe peopleוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelאִישׁisheachלְנַחֲלָתוֹle/na/cha/la/TOto his inheritanceלָרֶשֶׁתla/RE/shetto possessאֶת־הָאָרֶץ׃et-ha/A/retsthe land

   And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land.

   וַיַּעַבְדוּvay/ya/av/DUand they servedהָעָםha/AMthe peopleאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDכֹּלkolallיְמֵיye/MEthe days ofיְהוֹשֻׁעַYe/ho/SHU/aJoshuaוְכֹלve/KHOLand allיְמֵיye/MEthe days ofהַזְּקֵנִיםhaz/ze/ke/NIMthe eldersאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהֶאֱרִיכוּhe/e/RI/khuprolongedיָמִיםya/MIMdaysאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterיְהוֹשׁוּעַYe/ho/SHU/aJoshuaאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoרָאוּra/Uhad seenאֵת־כׇּל־מַעֲשֵׂהet-kol-ma/a/SEall the work ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLgreatאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשָׂהa/SAHe didלְיִשְׂרָאֵל׃le/Yis/ra/ELfor Israel

   And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel.

8. 8

   וַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand diedיְהוֹשֻׁעַYe/ho/SHU/aJoshuaבִּן־נוּןbin-Nunthe son of NunעֶבֶדE/vedthe servant ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבֶּן־מֵאָהben-me/Aa hundredוָעֶשֶׂרva/E/serand tenשָׁנִים׃sha/NIMyears

   And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.

9. 9

   וַיִּקְבְּרוּvay/yik/be/RUand they buriedאוֹתוֹo/TOhimבִּגְבוּלbig/VULin the territory ofנַחֲלָתוֹna/cha/la/TOhis inheritanceבְּתִמְנַת־חֶרֶסbe/Tim/NAT-CHE/resin Timnath-heresבְּהַרbe/HARin the hill country ofאֶפְרָיִםEf/RA/yimEphraimמִצְּפוֹןmits/tse/FONon the north ofלְהַר־גָּעַשׁ׃le/HAR-GA/ashof Mount Gaash

   And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash.

10. 10

    וְגַםve/GAMand alsoכׇּל־הַדּוֹרkol-had/DORall generationהַהוּאha/HUthatנֶאֶסְפוּne/es/FUwere gatheredאֶל־אֲבוֹתָיוel-a/vo/TAYVto their fathersוַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand there aroseדּוֹרdora generationאַחֵרa/CHERanotherאַחֲרֵיהֶםa/cha/re/HEMafter themאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoלֹא־יָדְעוּlo-ya/de/Udid not knowאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDוְגַםve/GAMnor yetאֶת־הַמַּעֲשֶׂהet-ham/ma/a/SEthe workאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשָׂהa/SAHe had doneלְיִשְׂרָאֵל׃le/Yis/ra/ELfor Israel

    And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.

11. 11

    וַיַּעֲשׂוּvay/ya/a/SUand they didבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelאֶת־הָרַעet-ha/RAevilבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַיַּעַבְדוּvay/ya/av/DUand they servedאֶת־הַבְּעָלִים׃et-Hab/be/a/LIMthe Baalim

    And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim:

12. 12

    וַיַּעַזְבוּvay/ya/az/VUand they forsookאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofאֲבוֹתָםa/vo/TAMtheir fathersהַמּוֹצִיאham/mo/TSIwho brought outאוֹתָםo/TAMthemמֵאֶרֶץme/E/retsfrom the land ofמִצְרַיִםMits/RA/yimEgyptוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterאֱלֹהִים־אֲחֵרִיםe/lo/HIM-a/che/RIMother godsמֵאֱלֹהֵיme/e/lo/HEof the gods ofהָעַמִּיםha/am/MIMthe peoplesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat wereסְבִיבוֹתֵיהֶםse/vi/vo/te/HEMaround themוַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּvay/yish/ta/cha/VUand bowed downלָהֶםla/HEMto themוַיַּכְעִסוּvay/yakh/I/suand provoked to angerאֶת־יְהֹוָה׃et-Adonaithe LORD

    And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger.

13. 13

    וַיַּעַזְבוּvay/ya/az/VUand they forsookאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDוַיַּעַבְדוּvay/ya/av/DUand they servedלַבַּעַלLab/BA/alBaalוְלָעַשְׁתָּרוֹת׃ve/La/ash/ta/ROTand the Ashtaroth

    And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.

14. 14

    וַיִּחַר־אַףvay/YI/char-afand was kindled the anger ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלbe/Yis/ra/ELagainst Israelוַיִּתְּנֵםvay/yit/te/NEMand He delivered themבְּיַד־שֹׁסִיםbe/YAD-sho/SIMinto the hands of plunderersוַיָּשֹׁסּוּvay/ya/SHOS/suwho plunderedאוֹתָםo/TAMthemוַיִּמְכְּרֵםvay/yim/ke/REMand He sold themבְּיַדbe/YADinto the hands ofאוֹיְבֵיהֶםoy/ve/HEMtheir enemiesמִסָּבִיבmis/sa/VIVall aroundוְלֹא־יָכְלוּve/LO-ya/khe/LUso that they could notעוֹדodany longerלַעֲמֹדla/a/MODto standלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeאוֹיְבֵיהֶם׃oy/ve/HEMtheir enemies

    And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.

15. 15

    בְּכֹלbe/KHOLwhereverאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיָצְאוּya/tse/Uthey went outיַד־יְהֹוָהyad-Adonaithe hand of the LORDהָיְתָה־בָּםha/ye/TA-bamwas against themלְרָעָהle/ra/Afor evilכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasדִּבֶּרdib/BERhad saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוְכַאֲשֶׁרve/kha/a/SHERand asנִשְׁבַּעnish/BAhad swornיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלָהֶםla/HEMto themוַיֵּצֶרvay/YE/tserand it was distressingלָהֶםla/HEMfor themמְאֹד׃me/ODgreatly

    Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.

16. 16

    וַיָּקֶםvay/YA/kemnevertheless raised upיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDשֹׁפְטִיםshof/TIMjudgesוַיּוֹשִׁיעוּםvay/yo/shi/UMwho saved themמִיַּדmiy/YADout of the hand ofשֹׁסֵיהֶם׃sho/se/HEMtheir plunderers

    Nevertheless the LORD raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them.

17. 17

    וְגַםve/GAMand yetאֶל־שֹׁפְטֵיהֶםel-shof/te/HEMto their judgesלֹאlonotשָׁמֵעוּsha/ME/udid they hearkenכִּיkibutזָנוּza/NUthey played the harlotאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterאֱלֹהִים־אֲחֵרִיםe/lo/HIM-a/che/RIMother godsוַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּvay/yish/ta/cha/VUand bowed downלָהֶםla/HEMto themסָרוּSA/ruthey turnedמַהֵרma/HERquicklyמִן־הַדֶּרֶךְmin-had/DE/rekhfrom the wayאֲשֶׁרa/SHERin whichהָלְכוּha/le/KHUwentאֲבוֹתָםa/vo/TAMtheir fathersלִשְׁמֹעַlish/MO/aobeyingמִצְוֺת־יְהֹוָהmits/VOT-Adonaithe commandments of the LORDלֹא־עָשׂוּlo-a/SUthey did not doכֵן׃khenso

    And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so.

18. 18

    וְכִי־הֵקִיםve/KHI-he/KIMand when raised upיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלָהֶםla/HEMfor themשֹׁפְטִיםshof/TIMjudgesוְהָיָהve/ha/YAthen wasיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDעִם־הַשֹּׁפֵטim-hash/sho/FETwith the judgeוְהוֹשִׁיעָםve/ho/shi/AMand saved themמִיַּדmiy/YADfrom the hand ofאֹיְבֵיהֶםoy/ve/HEMtheir enemiesכֹּלkolallיְמֵיye/MEthe days ofהַשּׁוֹפֵטhash/sho/FETthe judgeכִּי־יִנָּחֵםki-yin/na/CHEMfor relentedיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDמִנַּאֲקָתָםmin/na/a/ka/TAMbecause of their groaningמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofלֹחֲצֵיהֶםlo/cha/tse/HEMthose who oppressed themוְדֹחֲקֵיהֶם׃ve/do/cha/ke/HEMand afflicted them

    And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented the LORD because of their groanings by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.

19. 19

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it came to passבְּמוֹתbe/MOTwhen diedהַשּׁוֹפֵטhash/sho/FETthe judgeיָשֻׁבוּya/SHU/vuthey turned backוְהִשְׁחִיתוּve/hish/CHI/tuand acted more corruptlyמֵאֲבוֹתָםme/a/vo/TAMthan their fathersלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetin goingאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterאֱלֹהִים־אֲחֵרִיםe/lo/HIM-a/che/RIMother godsלְעׇבְדָםle/ov/DAMserving themוּלְהִשְׁתַּחֲוֺתu/le/hish/ta/cha/VOTand bowing downלָהֶםla/HEMto themלֹאlonotהִפִּילוּhip/PI/ludid they ceaseמִמַּעַלְלֵיהֶםmim/ma/al/le/HEMfrom their practicesוּמִדַּרְכָּםu/mid/dar/KAMor from their wayהַקָּשָׁה׃hak/ka/SHAstubborn

    And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.

20. 20

    וַיִּחַר־אַףvay/YI/char-afand was kindled the anger ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלbe/Yis/ra/ELagainst Israelוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיַעַןYA/anbecauseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָבְרוּa/ve/RUhas transgressedהַגּוֹיhag/GOYthe nationהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאֶת־בְּרִיתִיet-be/ri/TIMy covenantאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichצִוִּיתִיtsiv/VI/tiI commandedאֶת־אֲבוֹתָםet-a/vo/TAMtheir fathersוְלֹאve/LOand notשָׁמְעוּsha/me/Uhearkenedלְקוֹלִי׃le/ko/LIto My voice

    And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;

21. 21

    גַּם־אֲנִיgam-a/NII alsoלֹאlonotאוֹסִיףo/SIFwill henceforthלְהוֹרִישׁle/ho/RISHto drive outאִישׁishanyמִפְּנֵיהֶםmip/pe/ne/HEMfrom before themמִן־הַגּוֹיִםmin-hag/go/YIMof the nationsאֲשֶׁר־עָזַבa/SHER-a/ZAVwhich leftיְהוֹשֻׁעַYe/ho/SHU/aJoshuaוַיָּמֹת׃vay/ya/MOTwhen he died

    I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:

22. 22

    לְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatנַסּוֹתnas/SOTI may testבָּםbamthrough themאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Yis/ra/ELIsraelהֲשֹׁמְרִיםha/shom/RIMwhether will keepהֵםhemtheyאֶת־דֶּרֶךְet-DE/rekhthe way ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto walkבָּםbamin itכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasשָׁמְרוּsha/me/RUkept itאֲבוֹתָםa/vo/TAMtheir fathersאִם־לֹא׃im-loor not

    That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.

23. 23

    וַיַּנַּחvay/yan/NACHso leftיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶת־הַגּוֹיִםet-hag/go/YIMthe nationsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseלְבִלְתִּיle/vil/TIwithoutהוֹרִישָׁםho/ri/SHAMdriving them outמַהֵרma/HERquicklyוְלֹאve/LOneitherנְתָנָםne/ta/NAMdid He deliver themבְּיַד־יְהוֹשֻׁעַ׃be/YAD-ye/ho/SHU/ainto the hand of Joshua

    Therefore the LORD left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.
