   Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahיַעֲלֶהya/a/LEshall go upהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdנָתַתִּיna/TAT/tiI have deliveredאֶת־הָאָרֶץet-ha/A/retsthe landבְּיָדוֹ׃be/ya/DOinto his hand

   And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahלְשִׁמְעוֹןle/Shim/ONto Simeonאָחִיוa/CHIVhis brotherעֲלֵהa/LEgo upאִתִּיit/TIwith meבְגֹרָלִיve/go/ra/LIinto my lotוְנִלָּחֲמָהve/nil/la/cha/MAthat we may fightבַּכְּנַעֲנִיbak/Ke/na/a/NIagainst the Canaanitesוְהָלַכְתִּיve/ha/lakh/TIand I will goגַם־אֲנִיgam-a/NII alsoאִתְּךָit/te/KHAwith youבְּגוֹרָלֶךָbe/go/ra/LE/khainto your lotוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentאִתּוֹit/TOwith himשִׁמְעוֹן׃Shim/ONSimeon

   And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

   And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

   And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

   וַיָּנׇסvay/YA/nosbut fledאֲדֹנִיA/do/NIAdoni-בֶזֶקVE/zekbezekוַיִּרְדְּפוּvay/yir/de/FUand they pursuedאַחֲרָיוa/cha/RAYVafter himוַיֹּאחֲזוּvay/yo/cha/ZUand caughtאוֹתוֹo/TOhimוַיְקַצְּצוּvay/kats/tse/TSUand they cut offאֶת־בְּהֹנוֹתet-be/ho/NOTthe thumbs ofיָדָיוya/DAYVhis handsוְרַגְלָיו׃ve/rag/LAYVand his feet

   But Adoni-bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.

   And Adoni-bezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

   וַיִּלָּחֲמוּvay/yil/la/cha/MUnow foughtבְנֵי־יְהוּדָהve/NE-ye/hu/DAthe children of Judahבִּירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםbI/ru/sha/LA/yimagainst Jerusalemוַיִּלְכְּדוּvay/yil/ke/DUand tookאוֹתָהּo/TAitוַיַּכּוּהָvay/yak/KU/haand they struck itלְפִי־חָרֶבle/FI-CHA/revwith the edge of the swordוְאֶת־הָעִירve/ET-ha/IRand the cityשִׁלְּחוּshil/le/CHUthey setבָאֵשׁ׃va/ESHon fire

   Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.

   וְאַחַרve/a/CHARand afterwardיָרְדוּya/re/DUwent downבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahלְהִלָּחֵםle/hil/la/CHEMto fightבַּכְּנַעֲנִיbak/Ke/na/a/NIagainst the Canaanitesיוֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVwho dwelt inהָהָרha/HARthe hill countryוְהַנֶּגֶבve/han/NE/gevand the Negevוְהַשְּׁפֵלָה׃ve/hash/She/fe/LAand the Shephelah

   And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.

    And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-arba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

    וַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereאֶל־יוֹשְׁבֵיel-yosh/VEagainst the inhabitants ofדְּבִירDe/VIRDebirוְשֵׁם־דְּבִירve/SHEM-de/VIRnow the name of Debirלְפָנִיםle/fa/NIMbefore wasקִרְיַת־סֵפֶר׃Kir/YAT-SE/ferKiriath-sepher

    And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher:

12. 12

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidכָּלֵבKa/LEVCalebאֲשֶׁר־יַכֶּהa/SHER-yak/KEhe who strikesאֶת־קִרְיַת־סֵפֶרet-Kir/YAT-SE/ferKiriath-sepherוּלְכָדָהּu/le/kha/DAand takes itוְנָתַתִּיve/na/tat/TII will giveלוֹloto himאֶת־עַכְסָהet-Akh/SAAchsahבִתִּיvit/TImy daughterלְאִשָּׁה׃le/ish/SHAas wife

    And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.

    וַיִּלְכְּדָהּvay/yil/ke/DAand took itעׇתְנִיאֵלOt/ni/ELOthnielבֶּן־קְנַזben-Ke/NAZthe son of Kenazאֲחִיa/CHIthe brother ofכָלֵבKha/LEVCalebהַקָּטֹןhak/ka/TONyoungerמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nuthan heוַיִּתֶּן־לוֹvay/YIT/ten-loand he gave himאֶת־עַכְסָהet-Akh/SAAchsahבִתּוֹvit/TOhis daughterלְאִשָּׁה׃le/ish/SHAas wife

    And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבְּבוֹאָהּbe/vo/Awhen she cameוַתְּסִיתֵהוּvat/te/si/TE/huthat she urged himלִשְׁאֹלlish/OLto askמֵאֵת־אָבִיהָme/ET-a/VI/hafrom her fatherהַשָּׂדֶהhas/sa/DEa fieldוַתִּצְנַחvat/tits/NACHand she got downמֵעַלme/ALfromהַחֲמוֹרha/cha/MORthe donkeyוַיֹּאמֶר־לָהּvay/YO/mer-laand he said to herכָּלֵבKa/LEVCalebמַה־לָּךְ׃ma-lakhwhat do you wish

    And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?

    And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

    וּבְנֵיu/ve/NEand the children ofקֵינִיKe/NIthe Keniteחֹתֵןcho/TENthe father-in-law ofמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesעָלוּa/LUwent upמֵעִירme/IRfrom the city ofהַתְּמָרִיםhat/te/ma/RIMthe palm treesאֶת־בְּנֵיet-be/NEwith the children ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahמִדְבַּרmid/BARinto the wilderness ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhich isבְּנֶגֶבbe/NE/gevin the Negev ofעֲרָדA/RADAradוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand they wentוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevand dweltאֶת־הָעָם׃et-ha/AMamong the people

    And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.

    וַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahאֶת־שִׁמְעוֹןet-Shim/ONwith Simeonאָחִיוa/CHIVhis brotherוַיַּכּוּvay/yak/KUand they struckאֶת־הַכְּנַעֲנִיet-Hak/ke/na/a/NIthe Canaaniteיוֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVwho inhabitedצְפַתTse/FATZephathוַיַּחֲרִימוּvay/ya/cha/RI/muand utterly destroyedאוֹתָהּo/TAitוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand was calledאֶת־שֵׁם־הָעִירet-shem-ha/IRthe name of the cityחׇרְמָה׃Chor/MAHormah

    And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.

    וַיִּלְכֹּדvay/yil/KODalso tookיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahאֶת־עַזָּהet-Az/ZAGazaוְאֶת־גְּבוּלָהּve/ET-ge/vu/LAwith its territoryוְאֶת־אַשְׁקְלוֹןve/ET-ash/ke/LONand Ashkelonוְאֶת־גְּבוּלָהּve/ET-ge/vu/LAwith its territoryוְאֶת־עֶקְרוֹןve/ET-ek/RONand Ekronוְאֶת־גְּבוּלָהּ׃ve/ET-ge/vu/LAwith its territory

    Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.

19. 19

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand wasיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶת־יְהוּדָהet-Ye/hu/DAwith Judahוַיֹּרֶשׁvay/YO/reshand he drove outאֶת־הָהָרet-ha/HARthe hill countryכִּיkibutלֹאlonotלְהוֹרִישׁle/ho/RISHto drive outאֶת־יֹשְׁבֵיet-yosh/VEthe inhabitants ofהָעֵמֶקha/E/mekthe valleyכִּי־רֶכֶבki-RE/khevfor chariots ofבַּרְזֶלbar/ZELironלָהֶם׃la/HEMthey had

    And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.

20. 20

    וַיִּתְּנוּvay/yit/te/NUand they gaveלְכָלֵבle/Kha/LEVto Calebאֶת־חֶבְרוֹןet-Chev/RONHebronכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasדִּבֶּרdib/BERhad saidמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesוַיּוֹרֶשׁvay/YO/reshand he drove outמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereאֶת־שְׁלֹשָׁהet-she/lo/SHAthreeבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofהָעֲנָק׃Ha/a/NAKAnak

    And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.

21. 21

    וְאֶת־הַיְבוּסִיve/ET-hay/vu/SIand the Jebusiteיֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVwho dwelt inיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalemלֹאlonotהוֹרִישׁוּho/RI/shudid drive outבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofבִנְיָמִןVin/ya/MINBenjaminוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevbut dwellהַיְבוּסִיHay/vu/SIthe Jebusiteאֶת־בְּנֵיet-be/NEwith the children ofבִנְיָמִןVin/ya/MINBenjaminבִּירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםbI/ru/sha/LA/yimin Jerusalemעַדadtoהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.

22. 22

    וַיַּעֲלוּvay/ya/a/LUand went upבֵית־יוֹסֵףvet-Yo/SEFthe house of Josephגַּם־הֵםgam-hemthey alsoבֵּית־אֵלbet-Elagainst Beth-elוַיהֹוָהve-Adonaiand the LORDעִמָּם׃im/MAMwas with them

    And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Beth-el: and the LORD was with them.

23. 23

    וַיָּתִירוּvay/ya/TI/ruand sent to spy outבֵית־יוֹסֵףvet-Yo/SEFthe house of Josephבְּבֵית־אֵלBe/VET-elBeth-elוְשֵׁם־הָעִירve/SHEM-ha/IRnow the name of the cityלְפָנִיםle/fa/NIMbefore wasלוּז׃LuzLuz

    And the house of Joseph sent to descry Beth-el. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)

24. 24

    וַיִּרְאוּvay/yir/Uand they sawהַשֹּׁמְרִיםhash/shom/RIMthe watchersאִישׁisha manיוֹצֵאyo/TSEcoming outמִן־הָעִירmin-ha/IRfrom the cityוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidלוֹloto himהַרְאֵנוּhar/E/nushow usנָאnapleaseאֶת־מְבוֹאet-me/VOthe entrance ofהָעִירha/IRthe cityוְעָשִׂינוּve/a/SI/nuand we will showעִמְּךָim/me/KHAwith youחָסֶד׃CHA/sedkindness

    And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.

25. 25

    וַיַּרְאֵםvay/yar/EMand he showed themאֶת־מְבוֹאet-me/VOthe entrance ofהָעִירha/IRthe cityוַיַּכּוּvay/yak/KUand struckאֶת־הָעִירet-ha/IRthe cityלְפִי־חָרֶבle/FI-CHA/revby the edge of the swordוְאֶת־הָאִישׁve/ET-ha/ISHand the manוְאֶת־כׇּל־מִשְׁפַּחְתּוֹve/ET-kol-mish/pach/TOand all his familyשִׁלֵּחוּ׃shil/LE/chuthey let go

    And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.

    וַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manאֶרֶץE/retsthe land ofהַחִתִּיםha/Chit/TIMthe Hittitesוַיִּבֶןvay/YI/venand builtעִירira cityוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledשְׁמָהּshe/MAits nameלוּזLuzLuzהוּאhuthat isשְׁמָהּshe/MAits nameעַדadtoהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.

    Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּי־חָזַקki-cha/ZAKwhen was strongיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיָּשֶׂםvay/YA/semthat they putאֶת־הַכְּנַעֲנִיet-Hak/ke/na/a/NIthe Canaaniteלָמַסla/MASto forced laborוְהוֹרֵישׁve/ho/RESHbut drive outלֹאlonotהוֹרִישׁוֹ׃ho/ri/SHOdid drive them out

    And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.

    וְאֶפְרַיִםve/Ef/RA/yimand Ephraimלֹאlonotהוֹרִישׁho/RISHdid drive outאֶת־הַכְּנַעֲנִיet-Hak/ke/na/a/NIthe Canaaniteהַיּוֹשֵׁבhay/yo/SHEVwho dweltבְּגָזֶרbe/GA/zerin Gezerוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevbut dweltהַכְּנַעֲנִיhak/Ke/na/a/NIthe Canaaniteבְּקִרְבּוֹbe/kir/BOamong themבְּגָזֶר׃be/GA/zerin Gezer

    Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.

    זְבוּלֻןZe/vu/LUNZebulunלֹאlonotהוֹרִישׁho/RISHdid drive outאֶת־יוֹשְׁבֵיet-yosh/VEthe inhabitants ofקִטְרוֹןKit/RONKitronוְאֶת־יוֹשְׁבֵיve/ET-yosh/VEnor the inhabitants ofנַהֲלֹלNa/ha/LOLNahalolוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevbut dweltהַכְּנַעֲנִיhak/Ke/na/a/NIthe Canaaniteבְּקִרְבּוֹbe/kir/BOamong themוַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand becameלָמַס׃la/MASforced laborers

    Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.

    Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:

32. 32

    וַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevbut dweltהָאָשֵׁרִיha/A/she/RIthe Asheritesבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revamongהַכְּנַעֲנִיhak/Ke/na/a/NIthe Canaanitesיֹשְׁבֵיyosh/VEthe inhabitants ofהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landכִּיkiforלֹאlonotהוֹרִישׁוֹ׃ho/ri/SHOdid they drive them out

    But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.

33. 33

    נַפְתָּלִיNaf/ta/LINaphtaliלֹא־הוֹרִישׁlo-ho/RISHdid not drive outאֶת־יֹשְׁבֵיet-yosh/VEthe inhabitants ofבֵית־שֶׁמֶשׁVet-SHE/meshBeth-shemeshוְאֶת־יֹשְׁבֵיve/ET-yosh/VEnor the inhabitants ofבֵית־עֲנָתVet-a/NATBeth-anathוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevbut he dweltבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revamongהַכְּנַעֲנִיhak/Ke/na/a/NIthe Canaanitesיֹשְׁבֵיyosh/VEthe inhabitants ofהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landוְיֹשְׁבֵיve/yosh/VEnevertheless the inhabitants ofבֵית־שֶׁמֶשׁVet-SHE/meshBeth-shemeshוּבֵיתu/VETand Beth-עֲנָתa/NATanathהָיוּha/YUbecameלָהֶםla/HEMfor themלָמַס׃la/MASforced laborers

    Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became tributaries unto them.

34. 34

    וַיִּלְחֲצוּvay/yil/cha/TSUand forcedהָאֱמֹרִיha/E/mo/RIthe Amoritesאֶת־בְּנֵי־דָןet-Be/NE-danthe children of Danהָהָרָהha/HA/rainto the hill countryכִּי־לֹאki-lofor notנְתָנוֹne/ta/NOdid they allow themלָרֶדֶתla/RE/detto come downלָעֵמֶק׃la/E/mekinto the valley

    And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:

35. 35

    וַיּוֹאֶלvay/YO/elbut were determinedהָאֱמֹרִיha/E/mo/RIthe Amoritesלָשֶׁבֶתla/SHE/vetto dwellבְּהַר־חֶרֶסbe/HAR-CHE/resin Mount Heresבְּאַיָּלוֹןbe/Ay/ya/LONin Aijalonוּבְשַׁעַלְבִיםu/ve/Sha/al/VIMand in Shaalbimוַתִּכְבַּדvat/tikh/BADand grew heavyיַדyadthe hand ofבֵּית־יוֹסֵףbet-Yo/SEFthe house of Josephוַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand they becameלָמַס׃la/MASforced laborers

    But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.

36. 36

    וּגְבוּלu/ge/VULand the border ofהָאֱמֹרִיha/E/mo/RIthe Amoritesמִמַּעֲלֵהmim/ma/a/LEwas from the ascent ofעַקְרַבִּיםAk/rab/BIMAkrabbimמֵהַסֶּלַעme/has/SE/lafrom the rockוָמָעְלָה׃va/MA/laand upward

    And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
