Joshua 6 יְהוֹשֻׁעַ פרק ו׳

1. 1

   וִירִיחוֹand Jerichoסֹגֶרֶתwas shut upוּמְסֻגֶּרֶתand barredמִפְּנֵיbecause ofבְּנֵיthe sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelאֵיןthere is noיוֹצֵאgoing outוְאֵיןand there is noבָּא׃coming in

   Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.

2. 2

   וַיֹּאמֶרand saidיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶל־יְהוֹשֻׁעַto JoshuaרְאֵהbeholdנָתַתִּיI have givenבְיָדְךָin your handאֶת־יְרִיחוֹJerichoוְאֶת־מַלְכָּהּand its kingגִּבּוֹרֵיthe mighty men ofהֶחָיִל׃the valor

   And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.

3. 3

   וְסַבֹּתֶםand you will go aroundאֶת־הָעִירthe cityכֹּלallאַנְשֵׁיthe men ofהַמִּלְחָמָהthe battleהַקֵּיףgoing aroundאֶת־הָעִירthe cityפַּעַםtimeאֶחָתoneכֹּהthusתַעֲשֶׂהyou shall doשֵׁשֶׁתsixיָמִים׃days

   And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.

4. 4

   וְשִׁבְעָהand sevenכֹהֲנִיםpriestsיִשְׂאוּshall lift upשִׁבְעָהsevenשׁוֹפְרוֹתtrumpets ofהַיּוֹבְלִיםthe rams' hornsלִפְנֵיbeforeהָאָרוֹןthe arkוּבַיּוֹםand in the dayהַשְּׁבִיעִיthe seventhתָּסֹבּוּyou will go roundאֶת־הָעִירthe cityשֶׁבַעsevenפְּעָמִיםtimesוְהַכֹּהֲנִיםand the priestsיִתְקְעוּthey will give a blastבַּשּׁוֹפָרוֹת׃on the trumpets

   And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.

5. 5

   וְהָיָהand it shall beבִּמְשֹׁךְwhen soundsבְּקֶרֶןwith the horn ofהַיּוֹבֵלthe jubilee[כְּשׇׁמְעֲכֶם]when heard youאֶת־קוֹלthe voice ofהַשּׁוֹפָרthe shofarיָרִיעוּthey will shoutכׇל־הָעָםall the peopleתְּרוּעָהa shoutגְדוֹלָהgreatוְנָפְלָהand shall fallחוֹמַתthe wall ofהָעִירthe cityתַּחְתֶּיהָin its placeוְעָלוּand shall go upהָעָםthe peopleאִישׁeach manנֶגְדּוֹ׃straight before him

   And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.

   וַיִּקְרָאand calledיְהוֹשֻׁעַJoshuaבִּן־נוּןson of Nunאֶל־הַכֹּהֲנִיםto the priestsוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֲלֵהֶםunto themשְׂאוּtake upאֶת־אֲרוֹןthe ark ofהַבְּרִיתthe covenantוְשִׁבְעָהand sevenכֹהֲנִיםpriestsיִשְׂאוּshall lift upשִׁבְעָהsevenשׁוֹפְרוֹתtrumpets ofיוֹבְלִיםrams' hornsלִפְנֵיbeforeאֲרוֹןthe ark ofיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

   And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD.

7. 7

   (ויאמרו)[וַיֹּאמֶר]and saidאֶל־הָעָםto the peopleעִבְרוּpass overוְסֹבּוּand go roundאֶת־הָעִירthe cityוְהֶחָלוּץand the armed menיַעֲבֹרshall pass onלִפְנֵיbeforeאֲרוֹןthe ark ofיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

   And he said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the LORD.

8. 8

   וַיְהִיand it came to passכֶּאֱמֹרwhen had saidיְהוֹשֻׁעַJoshuaאֶל־הָעָםto the peopleוְשִׁבְעָהand sevenהַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsנֹשְׂאִיםbearingשִׁבְעָהsevenשׁוֹפְרוֹתtrumpets ofהַיּוֹבְלִיםthe rams' hornsלִפְנֵיbeforeיְהֹוָהthe LORDעָבְרוּpassedוְתָקְעוּand blewבַּשּׁוֹפָרוֹתon the trumpetsוַאֲרוֹןand the ark ofבְּרִיתcovenant ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDהֹלֵךְgoingאַחֲרֵיהֶם׃after them

   And it came to pass, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns passed on before the LORD, and blew with the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them.

9. 9

   וְהֶחָלוּץand the armed menהֹלֵךְgoingלִפְנֵיbeforeהַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priests(תקעו)[תֹּקְעֵי]blowers ofהַשּׁוֹפָרוֹתthe trumpetsוְהַמְאַסֵּףand the rearguardהֹלֵךְgoingאַחֲרֵיafterהָאָרוֹןthe arkהָלוֹךְgoing onוְתָקוֹעַand blowingבַּשּׁוֹפָרוֹת׃on the trumpets

   And the armed men went before the priests that blew with the trumpets, and the rereward came after the ark, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.

10. 10

    וְאֶת־הָעָםand the peopleצִוָּהcommandedיְהוֹשֻׁעַJoshuaלֵאמֹרsayingלֹאnotתָרִיעוּyou will give an alarmוְלֹא־תַשְׁמִיעוּand not you shall make heardאֶת־קוֹלְכֶםyour voiceוְלֹא־יֵצֵאand shall not go outמִפִּיכֶםfrom your mouthדָּבָרa wordעַדuntilיוֹםdayאׇמְרִיmy sayingאֲלֵיכֶםunto youהָרִיעוּshoutוַהֲרִיעֹתֶם׃and you will shout

    And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.

11. 11

    וַיַּסֵּבand he caused to go aroundאֲרוֹן־יְהֹוָהthe ark of the LORDאֶת־הָעִירthe cityהַקֵּףgoing aroundפַּעַםtimeאֶחָתoneוַיָּבֹאוּand they came intoהַמַּחֲנֶהthe campוַיָּלִינוּand they lodgedבַּמַּחֲנֶה׃in the camp

    So the ark of the LORD compassed the city, going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.

12. 12

    וַיַּשְׁכֵּםand rose earlyיְהוֹשֻׁעַJoshuaבַּבֹּקֶרin the morningוַיִּשְׂאוּand liftedהַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsאֶת־אֲרוֹןthe ark ofיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

    And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the LORD.

13. 13

    וְשִׁבְעָהand sevenהַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsנֹשְׂאִיםbearingשִׁבְעָהsevenשׁוֹפְרוֹתtrumpets ofהַיֹּבְלִיםthe rams' hornsלִפְנֵיbeforeאֲרוֹןthe ark ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDהֹלְכִיםgoingהָלוֹךְgoing onוְתָקְעוּand blowingבַּשּׁוֹפָרוֹתon the trumpetsוְהֶחָלוּץand the armed menהֹלֵךְgoingלִפְנֵיהֶםbefore themוְהַמְאַסֵּףand the rearguardהֹלֵךְgoingאַחֲרֵיafterאֲרוֹןthe ark ofיְהֹוָהthe LORD(הולך)[הָלוֹךְ]going onוְתָקוֹעַand blowingבַּשּׁוֹפָרוֹת׃on the trumpets

    And seven priests bearing seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD went on continually, and blew with the trumpets: and the armed men went before them; but the rereward came after the ark of the LORD, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.

14. 14

    וַיָּסֹבּוּand they surroundedאֶת־הָעִירthe cityבַּיּוֹםin the dayהַשֵּׁנִיthe secondפַּעַםtimeאַחַתoneוַיָּשֻׁבוּand they returnedהַמַּחֲנֶהthe campכֹּהthusעָשׂוּthey didשֵׁשֶׁתsixיָמִים׃days

    And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days.

15. 15

    וַיְהִיand it came to passבַּיּוֹםin the dayהַשְּׁבִיעִיthe seventhוַיַּשְׁכִּמוּand they rose earlyכַּעֲלוֹתat the ascending ofהַשַּׁחַרthe dawnוַיָּסֹבּוּand they surroundedאֶת־הָעִירthe cityכַּמִּשְׁפָּטaccording to the mannerהַזֶּהthisשֶׁבַעsevenפְּעָמִיםtimesרַקonlyבַּיּוֹםin the dayהַהוּאthatסָבְבוּthey surroundedאֶת־הָעִירthe cityשֶׁבַעsevenפְּעָמִים׃times

    And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times.

16. 16

    וַיְהִיand it came to passבַּפַּעַםat the timeהַשְּׁבִיעִיתthe seventhתָּקְעוּthey gave a blastהַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsבַּשּׁוֹפָרוֹתon the trumpetsוַיֹּאמֶרand saidיְהוֹשֻׁעַJoshuaאֶל־הָעָםto the peopleהָרִיעוּshoutכִּי־נָתַןfor has givenיְהֹוָהthe LORDלָכֶםto youאֶת־הָעִיר׃the city

    And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city.

17. 17

    וְהָיְתָהand shall beהָעִירthe cityחֵרֶםa devoted thingהִיאitוְכׇל־אֲשֶׁר־בָּהּand all that was in itלַיהֹוָהto the LORDרַקonlyרָחָבRahabהַזּוֹנָהthe harlotתִּחְיֶהshall liveהִיאitוְכׇל־אֲשֶׁרand all whichאִתָּהּwith herבַּבַּיִתin the houseכִּיbecauseהֶחְבְּאַתָהshe hidאֶת־הַמַּלְאָכִיםthe messengersאֲשֶׁרwhichשָׁלָחְנוּ׃we sent

    And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.

18. 18

    וְרַק־אַתֶּםand only youשִׁמְרוּkeep yourselvesמִן־הַחֵרֶםfrom the devoted thingפֶּן־תַּחֲרִימוּlest you should totally destroyוּלְקַחְתֶּםand you will takeמִן־הַחֵרֶםfrom the devoted thingוְשַׂמְתֶּםand you makeאֶת־מַחֲנֵהthe camp ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelלְחֵרֶםinto a devoted thingוַעֲכַרְתֶּםand you will troubleאוֹתוֹ׃it

    And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.

19. 19

    וְכֹלand allכֶּסֶףsilverוְזָהָבand goldוּכְלֵיand vessels ofנְחֹשֶׁתbrassוּבַרְזֶלand ironקֹדֶשׁholyהוּאit isלַיהֹוָהto the LORDאוֹצַרinto the treasury ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDיָבוֹא׃shall come

    But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD.

20. 20

    וַיָּרַעand shoutedהָעָםthe peopleוַיִּתְקְעוּand they gave a blastבַּשֹּׁפָרוֹתon the trumpetsוַיְהִיand it came to passכִשְׁמֹעַwhen heardהָעָםthe peopleאֶת־קוֹלthe voice ofהַשּׁוֹפָרthe shofarוַיָּרִיעוּand shoutedהָעָםthe peopleתְּרוּעָהa shoutגְדוֹלָהgreatוַתִּפֹּלand fellהַחוֹמָהthe wallתַּחְתֶּיהָin its placeוַיַּעַלand went upהָעָםthe peopleהָעִירָהinto the cityאִישׁeach manנֶגְדּוֹstraight before himוַיִּלְכְּדוּand they capturedאֶת־הָעִיר׃the city

    So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

21. 21

    וַיַּחֲרִימוּand they totally destroyedאֶת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁרall whichבָּעִירin the cityמֵאִישׁfrom manוְעַד־אִשָּׁהand unto a womanמִנַּעַרfrom youngוְעַד־זָקֵןand unto oldוְעַדand untoשׁוֹרan oxוָשֶׂהand a sheepוַחֲמוֹרand donkeyלְפִי־חָרֶב׃by the edge of the sword

    And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.

22. 22

    וְלִשְׁנַיִםand to twoהָאֲנָשִׁיםthe menהַמְרַגְּלִיםwho had spied outאֶת־הָאָרֶץthe landאָמַרsaidיְהוֹשֻׁעַJoshuaבֹּאוּcomeבֵּית־הָאִשָּׁהhouse of the womanהַזּוֹנָהthe harlotוְהוֹצִיאוּand bring outמִשָּׁםfrom thereאֶת־הָאִשָּׁהthe womanוְאֶת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר־לָהּand all that was hersכַּאֲשֶׁרasנִשְׁבַּעְתֶּםyou sworeלָהּ׃to her

    But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot's house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.

23. 23

    וַיָּבֹאוּand they cameהַנְּעָרִיםthe young menהַמְרַגְּלִיםwho had spied outוַיֹּצִיאוּand they brought outאֶת־רָחָבRahabוְאֶת־אָבִיהָand her fatherוְאֶת־אִמָּהּand her motherוְאֶת־אַחֶיהָand her brothersוְאֶת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר־לָהּand all that was hersוְאֵתandכׇּל־מִשְׁפְּחוֹתֶיהָall her familiesהוֹצִיאוּthey brought outוַיַּנִּיחוּםand they left themמִחוּץoutside ofלְמַחֲנֵהthe camp ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Israel

    And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.

24. 24

    וְהָעִירand the cityשָׂרְפוּthey burnedבָאֵשׁin fireוְכׇל־אֲשֶׁר־בָּהּand all that was in itרַקonlyהַכֶּסֶףthe silverוְהַזָּהָבand the goldוּכְלֵיand vessels ofהַנְּחֹשֶׁתthe brassוְהַבַּרְזֶלand the ironנָתְנוּthey gaveאוֹצַרinto the treasury ofבֵּית־יְהֹוָה׃the house of the LORD

    And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD.

25. 25

    וְאֶת־רָחָבand Rahabהַזּוֹנָהthe harlotוְאֶת־בֵּיתand the house ofאָבִיהָher fatherוְאֶת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר־לָהּand all that was hersהֶחֱיָהkept aliveיְהוֹשֻׁעַJoshuaוַתֵּשֶׁבand she dweltבְּקֶרֶבamongיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelעַדuntilהַיּוֹםthe dayהַזֶּהthisכִּיbecauseהֶחְבִּיאָהshe hidאֶת־הַמַּלְאָכִיםthe messengersאֲשֶׁר־שָׁלַחthat sentיְהוֹשֻׁעַJoshuaלְרַגֵּלto spy outאֶת־יְרִיחוֹ׃Jericho

    And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father's household, and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

26. 26

    וַיַּשְׁבַּעand adjuredיְהוֹשֻׁעַJoshuaבָּעֵתat the timeהַהִיאthatלֵאמֹרsayingאָרוּרcursed isהָאִישׁthe manלִפְנֵיbeforeיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֲשֶׁרwhichיָקוּםhe shall riseוּבָנָהand he will rebuildאֶת־הָעִירthe cityהַזֹּאתthisאֶת־יְרִיחוֹJerichoבִּבְכֹרוֹwith his firstbornיְיַסְּדֶנָּהhe will found itוּבִצְעִירוֹand with his youngestיַצִּיבhe will set upדְּלָתֶיהָ׃its gates

    And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.

27. 27

    וַיְהִיand wasיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶת־יְהוֹשֻׁעַwith Joshuaוַיְהִיand wasשׇׁמְעוֹhis fameבְּכׇל־הָאָרֶץ׃in all the land

    So the LORD was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.
