   וַיְהִיand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁר־תַּמּוּwhen had endedכׇל־הַגּוֹיall the nationלַעֲבוֹרto pass overאֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּןthe Jordanוַיֹּאמֶרand saidיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶל־יְהוֹשֻׁעַto Joshuaלֵאמֹר׃saying

   And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over Jordan, that the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,

   קְחוּtakeלָכֶםto youמִן־הָעָםfrom the peopleשְׁנֵים־עָשָׂרtwelveאֲנָשִׁיםmenאִישׁ־אֶחָדone manאִישׁ־אֶחָדone manמִשָּׁבֶט׃from every tribe

   Take you twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,

   וְצַוּוּand commandאוֹתָםthemלֵאמֹרsayingשְׂאוּ־לָכֶםlift up to youמִזֶּהon this sideמִתּוֹךְfrom the midst ofהַיַּרְדֵּןthe Jordanמִמַּצַּבfrom the standing place ofרַגְלֵיfeet ofהַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsהָכִיןfirmשְׁתֵּים־עֶשְׂרֵהtwelveאֲבָנִיםstonesוְהַעֲבַרְתֶּםand you will make pass overאוֹתָםthemעִמָּכֶםwith youוְהִנַּחְתֶּםand you will set downאוֹתָםthemבַּמָּלוֹןat the lodging placeאֲשֶׁר־תָּלִינוּwhich you will stayבוֹin itהַלָּיְלָה׃the night

   And command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge this night.

   וַיִּקְרָאand calledיְהוֹשֻׁעַJoshuaאֶל־שְׁנֵים־הֶעָשָׂרto the twelveאִישׁmenאֲשֶׁרwhichהֵכִיןhad preparedמִבְּנֵיthe sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelאִישׁ־אֶחָדone manאִישׁ־אֶחָדone manמִשָּׁבֶט׃from every tribe

   Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man:

   וַיֹּאמֶרand saidלָהֶםto themיְהוֹשֻׁעַJoshuaעִבְרוּpass overלִפְנֵיbeforeאֲרוֹןthe ark ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיכֶםyour Godאֶל־תּוֹךְdown intoהַיַּרְדֵּןthe Jordanוְהָרִימוּand take upלָכֶםto youאִישׁeach manאֶבֶןstoneאַחַתoneעַל־שִׁכְמוֹupon his shoulderלְמִסְפַּרto the number ofשִׁבְטֵיtribes ofבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃sons of Israel

   And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of Jordan, and take ye up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel:

   לְמַעַןin order thatתִּהְיֶהshall beזֹאתthisאוֹתa signבְּקִרְבְּכֶםamong youכִּי־יִשְׁאָלוּןwhen they will askבְּנֵיכֶםyour sonsמָחָרon the morrowלֵאמֹרsayingמָהwhatהָאֲבָנִיםthe stonesהָאֵלֶּהtheseלָכֶם׃to you

   That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?

   וַאֲמַרְתֶּםand you shall sayלָהֶםto themאֲשֶׁרwhichנִכְרְתוּthey were cut offמֵימֵיthe waters ofהַיַּרְדֵּןthe Jordanמִפְּנֵיbecause ofאֲרוֹןthe ark ofבְּרִית־יְהֹוָהcovenant of the LORDבְּעׇבְרוֹwhen it crossed overבַּיַּרְדֵּןin the Jordanנִכְרְתוּthey were cut offמֵיthe waters ofהַיַּרְדֵּןthe Jordanוְהָיוּthen they shall beהָאֲבָנִיםthe stonesהָאֵלֶּהtheseלְזִכָּרוֹןin remembranceלִבְנֵיunto the sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelעַד־עוֹלָם׃forever

   Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.

   וַיַּעֲשׂוּ־כֵןand they did thusבְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלsons of IsraelכַּאֲשֶׁרasצִוָּהcommandedיְהוֹשֻׁעַJoshuaוַיִּשְׂאוּand liftedשְׁתֵּי־עֶשְׂרֵהtwelveאֲבָנִיםstonesמִתּוֹךְfrom the midst ofהַיַּרְדֵּןthe Jordanכַּאֲשֶׁרasדִּבֶּרspokeיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶל־יְהוֹשֻׁעַto Joshuaלְמִסְפַּרto the number ofשִׁבְטֵיtribes ofבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלsons of Israelוַיַּעֲבִרוּםand they took over themעִמָּםwith themאֶל־הַמָּלוֹןto the lodging placeוַיַּנִּחוּםand they set down themשָׁם׃there

   And the children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of Jordan, as the LORD spake unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

9. 9

   וּשְׁתֵּים־עֶשְׂרֵהand twelveאֲבָנִיםstonesהֵקִיםset upיְהוֹשֻׁעַJoshuaבְּתוֹךְamongהַיַּרְדֵּןthe Jordanתַּחַתunderמַצַּבstanding place ofרַגְלֵיfeet ofהַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsנֹשְׂאֵיbearers ofאֲרוֹןthe ark ofהַבְּרִיתthe covenantוַיִּהְיוּand they wereשָׁםthereעַדuntilהַיּוֹםthe dayהַזֶּה׃this

   And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests which bare the ark of the covenant stood: and they are there unto this day.

10. 10

    וְהַכֹּהֲנִיםand the priestsנֹשְׂאֵיbearers ofהָאָרוֹןthe arkעֹמְדִיםstandingבְּתוֹךְamongהַיַּרְדֵּןthe Jordanעַדuntilתֹּםwas finishedכׇּל־הַדָּבָרeverythingאֲשֶׁר־צִוָּהthat commandedיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶת־יְהוֹשֻׁעַJoshuaלְדַבֵּרto speakאֶל־הָעָםto the peopleכְּכֹלaccording to allאֲשֶׁר־צִוָּהthat commandedמֹשֶׁהMosesאֶת־יְהוֹשֻׁעַJoshuaוַיְמַהֲרוּand hurriedהָעָםthe peopleוַיַּעֲבֹרוּ׃and they passed over

    For the priests which bare the ark stood in the midst of Jordan, until every thing was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua: and the people hasted and passed over.

11. 11

    וַיְהִיand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁר־תַּםas endedכׇּל־הָעָםall the peopleלַעֲבוֹרto pass overוַיַּעֲבֹרand crossed overאֲרוֹן־יְהֹוָהthe ark of the LORDוְהַכֹּהֲנִיםand the priestsלִפְנֵיbeforeהָעָם׃the people

    And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of the LORD passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.

12. 12

    וַיַּעַבְרוּand they crossed overבְּנֵי־רְאוּבֵןsons of Reubenוּבְנֵי־גָדand sons of Gadוַחֲצִיand one half ofשֵׁבֶטtribe ofהַמְנַשֶּׁהManassehחֲמֻשִׁיםarrayed for battleלִפְנֵיbeforeבְּנֵיthe sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelכַּאֲשֶׁרasדִּבֶּרspokeאֲלֵיהֶםto themמֹשֶׁה׃Moses

    And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spake unto them:

13. 13

    כְּאַרְבָּעִיםabout fortyאֶלֶףthousandחֲלוּצֵיarmed men ofהַצָּבָאthe armyעָבְרוּpassedלִפְנֵיbeforeיְהֹוָהthe LORDלַמִּלְחָמָהto the warאֶלtoעַרְבוֹתthe plains ofיְרִיחוֹ׃Jericho

    About forty thousand prepared for war passed over before the LORD unto battle, to the plains of Jericho.

14. 14

    בַּיּוֹםin the dayהַהוּאthatגִּדַּלmade greatיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶת־יְהוֹשֻׁעַJoshuaבְּעֵינֵיin the eyes ofכׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵלall Israelוַיִּרְאוּand they sawאֹתוֹhimכַּאֲשֶׁרasיָרְאוּthey fearedאֶת־מֹשֶׁהMosesכׇּל־יְמֵיall days ofחַיָּיו׃his life

    On that day the LORD magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.

15. 15

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶל־יְהוֹשֻׁעַto Joshuaלֵאמֹר׃saying

    And the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,

16. 16

    צַוֵּהcommandאֶת־הַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsנֹשְׂאֵיbearers ofאֲרוֹןthe ark ofהָעֵדוּתthe testimonyוְיַעֲלוּand they go upמִן־הַיַּרְדֵּן׃from the Jordan

    Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of Jordan.

17. 17

    וַיְצַוand commandedיְהוֹשֻׁעַJoshuaאֶת־הַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsלֵאמֹרsayingעֲלוּgo upמִן־הַיַּרְדֵּן׃from the Jordan

    Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up out of Jordan.

18. 18

    וַיְהִיand it came to pass(בעלות)[כַּעֲלוֹת]when came upהַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsנֹשְׂאֵיbearers ofאֲרוֹןthe ark ofבְּרִית־יְהֹוָהcovenant of the LORDמִתּוֹךְfrom the midst ofהַיַּרְדֵּןthe Jordanנִתְּקוּwere lifted upכַּפּוֹתthe solesרַגְלֵיfeet ofהַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsאֶלtoהֶחָרָבָהthe dry groundוַיָּשֻׁבוּand they returnedמֵי־הַיַּרְדֵּןthe waters of the Jordanלִמְקוֹמָםto their placeוַיֵּלְכוּand they wentכִתְמוֹל־שִׁלְשׁוֹםas yesterday three days agoעַל־כׇּל־גְּדוֹתָיו׃upon all its banks

    And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.

19. 19

    וְהָעָםand the peopleעָלוּthey ascendedמִן־הַיַּרְדֵּןfrom the Jordanבֶּעָשׂוֹרin the tenthלַחֹדֶשׁof the monthהָרִאשׁוֹןthe firstוַיַּחֲנוּand they encampedבַּגִּלְגָּלin Gilgalבִּקְצֵהin the border ofמִזְרַחthe rising ofיְרִיחוֹ׃Jericho

    And the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho.

20. 20

    וְאֵתandשְׁתֵּים־עֶשְׂרֵהtwelveהָאֲבָנִיםthe stonesהָאֵלֶּהtheseאֲשֶׁרwhichלָקְחוּthey tookמִן־הַיַּרְדֵּןfrom the Jordanהֵקִיםset upיְהוֹשֻׁעַJoshuaבַּגִּלְגָּל׃in Gilgal

    And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal.

21. 21

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֶל־בְּנֵיunto the sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelלֵאמֹרsayingאֲשֶׁרwhenיִשְׁאָלוּןthey will askבְּנֵיכֶםyour sonsמָחָרon the morrowאֶת־אֲבוֹתָםtheir fathersלֵאמֹרsayingמָהwhatהָאֲבָנִיםthe stonesהָאֵלֶּה׃these

    And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?

22. 22

    וְהוֹדַעְתֶּםand you will make known toאֶת־בְּנֵיכֶםyour sonsלֵאמֹרsayingבַּיַּבָּשָׁהon the dry groundעָבַרpassedיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelאֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּןthe Jordanהַזֶּה׃this

    Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

23. 23

    אֲשֶׁר־הוֹבִישׁthat dried upיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיכֶםyour Godאֶת־מֵיthe waters ofהַיַּרְדֵּןthe Jordanמִפְּנֵיכֶםbecause of youעַד־עׇבְרְכֶםuntil you passed overכַּאֲשֶׁרasעָשָׂהdidיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיכֶםyour Godלְיַם־סוּףto the Red Seaאֲשֶׁר־הוֹבִישׁthat He dried upמִפָּנֵינוּfrom our faceעַד־עׇבְרֵנוּ׃until we passed over

    For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:

24. 24

    לְמַעַןin order thatדַּעַתmight knowכׇּל־עַמֵּיall the peoples ofהָאָרֶץthe earthאֶת־יַדhand ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDכִּיthatחֲזָקָהmightyהִיאit isלְמַעַןin order thatיְרָאתֶםyou may fearאֶת־יְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיכֶםyour Godכׇּל־הַיָּמִים׃all the days

    That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.
