Joshua 17 יְהוֹשֻׁעַ פרק י״ז

   There was also a lot for the tribe of Manasseh; for he was the firstborn of Joseph; to wit, for Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead: because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilead and Bashan.

   There was also a lot for the rest of the children of Manasseh by their families; for the children of Abiezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of Shechem, and for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida: these were the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph by their families.

   But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters: and these are the names of his daughters, Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

   And they came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren. Therefore according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father.

   וַיִּפְּלוּvay/yip/pe/LUand fellחַבְלֵי־מְנַשֶּׁהchav/LE-Me/nash/SHEportions to Manassehעֲשָׂרָהa/sa/RAtenלְבַדle/VADbesidesמֵאֶרֶץme/E/retsthe land ofהַגִּלְעָדHag/gil/ADGileadוְהַבָּשָׁןve/hab/Ba/SHANand Bashanאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhich areמֵעֵבֶרme/E/verbeyondלַיַּרְדֵּן׃lay/Yar/DENthe Jordan

   And there fell ten portions to Manasseh, beside the land of Gilead and Bashan, which were on the other side Jordan;

   כִּיkibecauseבְּנוֹתbe/NOTthe daughters ofמְנַשֶּׁהMe/nash/SHEManassehנָחֲלוּna/cha/LUreceivedנַחֲלָהna/cha/LAan inheritanceבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHamongבָּנָיוba/NAYVhis sonsוְאֶרֶץve/E/retsand the land ofהַגִּלְעָדHag/gil/ADGileadהָיְתָהha/ye/TAbelongedלִבְנֵי־מְנַשֶּׁהliv/NE-Me/nash/SHEto the children of Manassehהַנּוֹתָרִים׃han/no/ta/RIMthe rest

   Because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons: and the rest of Manasseh's sons had the land of Gilead.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand wasגְבוּל־מְנַשֶּׁהge/VUL-Me/nash/SHEthe border of Manassehמֵאָשֵׁרme/A/SHERfrom Asherהַמִּכְמְתָתham/Mikh/me/TATto Michmethahאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhich isעַל־פְּנֵיal-pe/NEbeforeשְׁכֶםShe/KHEMShechemוְהָלַךְve/ha/LAKHand wentהַגְּבוּלhag/ge/VULthe borderאֶל־הַיָּמִיןel-hay/ya/MINto the rightאֶל־יֹשְׁבֵיel-yosh/VEto the inhabitants ofעֵיןEnEn-תַּפּוּחַ׃tap/PU/achtappuah

   And the coast of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethah, that lieth before Shechem; and the border went along on the right hand unto the inhabitants of En-tappuah.

   לִמְנַשֶּׁהLim/nash/SHEto Manassehהָיְתָהha/ye/TAbelongedאֶרֶץE/retsthe land ofתַּפּוּחַTap/PU/achTappuahוְתַפּוּחַve/Tap/PU/achbut Tappuahאֶל־גְּבוּלel-ge/VULon the border ofמְנַשֶּׁהMe/nash/SHEManassehלִבְנֵיliv/NEto the children ofאֶפְרָיִם׃Ef/RA/yimEphraim

   Now Manasseh had the land of Tappuah: but Tappuah on the border of Manasseh belonged to the children of Ephraim;

   וְיָרַדve/ya/RADand went downהַגְּבוּלhag/ge/VULthe borderנַחַלNA/chalto the brookקָנָהKa/NAKanahנֶגְבָּהNEG/basouthwardלַנַּחַלlan/NA/chalof the brookעָרִיםa/RIMcitiesהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseלְאֶפְרַיִםle/Ef/RA/yimbelonged to Ephraimבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHamongעָרֵיa/REthe cities ofמְנַשֶּׁהMe/nash/SHEManassehוּגְבוּלu/ge/VULand the border ofמְנַשֶּׁהMe/nash/SHEManassehמִצְּפוֹןmits/tse/FONon the north side ofלַנַּחַלlan/NA/chalthe brookוַיְהִיvay/HIand wereתֹצְאֹתָיוtots/o/TAYVits goings outהַיָּמָּה׃hay/YAM/maat the sea

   And the coast descended unto the river Kanah, southward of the river: these cities of Ephraim are among the cities of Manasseh: the coast of Manasseh also was on the north side of the river, and the outgoings of it were at the sea:

    Southward it was Ephraim's, and northward it was Manasseh's, and the sea is his border; and they met together in Asher on the north, and in Issachar on the east.

    And Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher Beth-shean and her towns, and Ibleam and her towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Endor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and her towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns, even three countries.

12. 12

    וְלֹאve/LOyet notיָכְלוּya/khe/LUcouldבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofמְנַשֶּׁהMe/nash/SHEManassehלְהוֹרִישׁle/ho/RISHdrive outאֶת־הֶעָרִיםet-he/a/RIMthe citiesהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוַיּוֹאֶלvay/YO/elbut were determinedהַכְּנַעֲנִיhak/Ke/na/a/NIthe Canaaniteלָשֶׁבֶתla/SHE/vetto dwellבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landהַזֹּאת׃haz/ZOTthis

    Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

13. 13

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּיkiwhenחָזְקוּcha/ze/KUhad grown strongבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיִּתְּנוּvay/yit/te/NUthat they putאֶת־הַכְּנַעֲנִיet-Hak/ke/na/a/NIthe Canaaniteלָמַסla/MASto forced laborוְהוֹרֵשׁve/ho/RESHbut drive outלֹאlonotהוֹרִישׁוֹ׃ho/ri/SHOdid drive them out

    Yet it came to pass, when the children of Israel were waxen strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute; but did not utterly drive them out.

14. 14

    וַיְדַבְּרוּvay/dab/be/RUand spokeבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofיוֹסֵףYo/SEFJosephאֶת־יְהוֹשֻׁעַet-Ye/ho/SHU/ato Joshuaלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingמַדּוּעַmad/DU/awhyנָתַתָּהna/TAT/tahave you givenלִּיlimeנַחֲלָהna/cha/LAas an inheritanceגּוֹרָלgo/RALlotאֶחָדe/CHADoneוְחֶבֶלve/CHE/veland portionאֶחָדe/CHADoneוַאֲנִיva/a/NIseeing I amעַם־רָבam-rava great peopleעַדadforasmuchאֲשֶׁר־עַד־כֹּהa/SHER-ad-koas hithertoבֵּרְכַנִיber/KHA/nihas blessed meיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as the LORD hath blessed me hitherto?

15. 15

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themיְהוֹשֻׁעַYe/ho/SHU/aJoshuaאִם־עַם־רַבim-am-ravif a great peopleאַתָּהat/TAyou areעֲלֵהa/LEgo upלְךָle/KHAfor yourselfהַיַּעְרָהhay/YA/rato the forestוּבֵרֵאתָu/ve/re/TAand clearלְךָle/KHAfor yourselfשָׁםshamthereבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the land ofהַפְּרִזִּיhap/Pe/riz/ZIthe Perizzitesוְהָרְפָאִיםve/Ha/re/fa/IMand the Rephaimכִּי־אָץki-atssince is too narrowלְךָle/KHAfor youהַר־אֶפְרָיִם׃haR-ef/RA/yimthe hill country of Ephraim

    And Joshua answered them, If thou be a great people, then get thee up to the wood country, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the giants, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for thee.

16. 16

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofיוֹסֵףYo/SEFJosephלֹא־יִמָּצֵאlo-yim/MA/tseis not enoughלָנוּLA/nufor usהָהָרha/HARthe hill countryוְרֶכֶבve/RE/khevand chariots ofבַּרְזֶלbar/ZELironבְּכׇל־הַכְּנַעֲנִיbe/KHOL-hak/ke/na/a/NIhave all the Canaanitesהַיֹּשֵׁבhay/yo/SHEVwho dwellבְּאֶרֶץ־הָעֵמֶקbe/E/rets-ha/E/mekin the land of the valleyלַאֲשֶׁרla/a/SHERboth those who areבְּבֵית־שְׁאָןbe/VET-she/ANin Beth-sheanוּבְנוֹתֶיהָu/ve/no/TE/haand its townsוְלַאֲשֶׁרve/la/a/SHERand those who areבְּעֵמֶקbe/E/mekin the valley ofיִזְרְעֶאל׃Yiz/re/ELJezreel

    And the children of Joseph said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are of Beth-shean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of Jezreel.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהוֹשֻׁעַYe/ho/SHU/aJoshuaאֶל־בֵּיתel-betto the house ofיוֹסֵףYo/SEFJosephלְאֶפְרַיִםle/Ef/RA/yimto Ephraimוְלִמְנַשֶּׁהve/Lim/nash/SHEand to Manassehלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingעַם־רַבam-rava great peopleאַתָּהat/TAyou areוְכֹחַve/KHO/achand powerגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatלָךְlakhyou haveלֹא־יִהְיֶהlo-yih/YEshall not haveלְךָle/KHAyouגּוֹרָלgo/RALlotאֶחָד׃e/CHADone

    And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power: thou shalt not have one lot only:

18. 18

    כִּיkibecauseהַרharthe hill countryיִהְיֶה־לָּךְyih/YE-lakhshall be yoursכִּי־יַעַרki-YA/arfor a forestהוּאhuit isוּבֵרֵאתוֹu/ve/re/TOand you shall clear itוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand shall beלְךָle/KHAyoursתֹּצְאֹתָיוtots/o/TAYVits goings outכִּי־תוֹרִישׁki-to/RISHfor you shall drive outאֶת־הַכְּנַעֲנִיet-Hak/ke/na/a/NIthe CanaaniteכִּיkithoughרֶכֶבRE/khevchariots ofבַּרְזֶלbar/ZELironלוֹlothey haveכִּיkithoughחָזָקcha/ZAKstrongהוּא׃huthey are

    But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.
