   The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.

   שִׁמְעוּ־זֹאתshim/U-zothear thisהַזְּקֵנִיםhaz/ze/ke/NIMO old menוְהַאֲזִינוּve/ha/a/ZI/nuand give earכֹּלkolallיוֹשְׁבֵיyosh/VEthe inhabitants ofהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landהֶהָיְתָהhe/HAY/tahas beenזֹּאתzotthisבִּימֵיכֶםbi/me/KHEMin your daysוְאִםve/IMorבִּימֵיbi/MEin the days ofאֲבֹתֵיכֶם׃a/vo/te/KHEMyour fathers

   Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?

   Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.

   That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.

   הָקִיצוּha/KI/tsuawakeשִׁכּוֹרִיםshik/ko/RIMO drunkardsוּבְכוּu/ve/KHUand weepוְהֵילִלוּve/he/LI/luand howlכׇּל־שֹׁתֵיkol-SHO/teall you drinkers ofיָיִןYA/yinwineעַל־עָסִיסal-a/SISfor the new wineכִּיkiforנִכְרַתnikh/RATit is cut offמִפִּיכֶם׃mip/pi/KHEMfrom your mouth

   Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.

   כִּי־גוֹיki-goyfor a nationעָלָהa/LAhas come upעַל־אַרְצִיal-ar/TSIupon my landעָצוּםa/TSUMstrongוְאֵיןve/ENand there is noמִסְפָּרmis/PARnumberשִׁנָּיוshin/NAYVhis teethשִׁנֵּיshin/NEthe teeth ofאַרְיֵהar/YEa lionוּמְתַלְּעוֹתu/me/tal/le/OTand the cheek teeth ofלָבִיאla/VIa great lionלוֹ׃lohe has

   For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.

   שָׂםsamhe has laidגַּפְנִיgaf/NImy vineלְשַׁמָּהle/sham/MAwasteוּתְאֵנָתִיu/te/e/na/TIand my fig treeלִקְצָפָהlik/tsa/FAinto splintersחָשֹׂףcha/SOFstripחֲשָׂפָהּcha/sa/FAhe has stripped itוְהִשְׁלִיךְve/hish/LIKHand cast it awayהִלְבִּינוּhil/BI/nuare made whiteשָׂרִיגֶיהָ׃sa/ri/GE/haits branches

   He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.

   אֱלִיe/LIlamentכִּבְתוּלָהkiv/tu/LAlike a virginחֲגֻרַת־שַׂקcha/gu/RAT-sakgirded with sackclothעַל־בַּעַלal-BA/alfor the husband ofנְעוּרֶיהָ׃ne/u/RE/haher youth

   Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

   הׇכְרַתhokh/RATis cut offמִנְחָהmin/CHAthe meal offeringוָנֶסֶךְva/NE/sekhand the drink offeringמִבֵּיתmib/BETfrom the house ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאָבְלוּa/ve/LUmournהַכֹּהֲנִיםhak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsמְשָׁרְתֵיme/sha/re/TEthe ministers ofיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

   The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD's ministers, mourn.

    שֻׁדַּדshud/DADis wastedשָׂדֶהsa/DEthe fieldאָבְלָהa/ve/LAmournsאֲדָמָהa/da/MAthe groundכִּיkiforשֻׁדַּדshud/DADis wastedדָּגָןda/GANthe grainהוֹבִישׁho/VISHis dried upתִּירוֹשׁti/ROSHthe new wineאֻמְלַלum/LALlanguishesיִצְהָר׃yits/HARthe oil

    The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.

    הֹבִישׁוּho/VI/shube ashamedאִכָּרִיםik/ka/RIMO husbandmenהֵילִילוּhe/LI/luhowlכֹּרְמִיםkor/MIMO vinedressersעַל־חִטָּהal-chit/TAfor the wheatוְעַל־שְׂעֹרָהve/AL-se/o/RAand for the barleyכִּיkiforאָבַדa/VADhas perishedקְצִירke/TSIRthe harvest ofשָׂדֶה׃sa/DEthe field

    Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.

    The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.

    Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.

    קַדְּשׁוּ־צוֹםkad/de/SHU-tsomsanctify a fastקִרְאוּkir/Ucallעֲצָרָהa/tsa/RAa solemn assemblyאִסְפוּis/FUgatherזְקֵנִיםze/ke/NIMthe eldersכֹּלkolallיֹשְׁבֵיyosh/VEthe inhabitants ofהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landבֵּיתbetinto the house ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיכֶםe/lo/he/KHEMyour Godוְזַעֲקוּve/za/a/KUand cry outאֶל־יְהֹוָה׃el-Adonaito the LORD

    Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,

15. 15

    אֲהָהּa/HAalasלַיּוֹםlay/YOMfor the dayכִּיkiforקָרוֹבka/ROVnearיוֹםyomthe day ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוּכְשֹׁדu/khe/SHODand as destructionמִשַּׁדַּיmish/Shad/DAYfrom the Almightyיָבוֹא׃ya/VOit comes

    Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

    הֲלוֹאha/LOis notנֶגֶדNE/gedbeforeעֵינֵינוּe/NE/nuour eyesאֹכֶלO/khelfoodנִכְרָתnikh/RATis cut offמִבֵּיתmib/BETfrom the house ofאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuour Godשִׂמְחָהsim/CHAjoyוָגִיל׃va/GILand rejoicing

    Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

17. 17

    עָבְשׁוּa/ve/SHUis rottenפְרֻדוֹתfe/ru/DOTthe seedsתַּחַתTA/chatunderמֶגְרְפֹתֵיהֶםmeg/re/fo/te/HEMtheir clodsנָשַׁמּוּna/SHAM/muare desolateאֹצָרוֹתo/tsa/ROTthe garnersנֶהֶרְסוּne/her/SUare broken downמַמְּגֻרוֹתmam/me/gu/ROTthe barnsכִּיkiforהֹבִישׁho/VISHis witheredדָּגָן׃da/GANthe grain

    The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.

    מַה־נֶּאֶנְחָהma-ne/en/CHAhow groanבְהֵמָהve/he/MAthe beastsנָבֹכוּna/VO/khuare perplexedעֶדְרֵיed/REthe herds ofבָקָרva/KARcattleכִּיkibecauseאֵיןenthere is noמִרְעֶהmir/Epastureלָהֶםla/HEMfor themגַּם־עֶדְרֵיgam-ed/REalso the flocks ofהַצֹּאןhats/TSONsheepנֶאְשָׁמוּ׃ne/SHA/muare made desolate

    How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.

    אֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato YouיְהֹוָהAdonaiO LORDאֶקְרָאek/RAI will cryכִּיkiforאֵשׁeshfireאָכְלָהa/khe/LAhas devouredנְאוֹתne/OTthe pastures ofמִדְבָּרmid/BARthe wildernessוְלֶהָבָהve/le/ha/VAand the flameלִהֲטָהli/ha/TAhas burnedכׇּל־עֲצֵיkol-a/TSEall the trees ofהַשָּׂדֶה׃has/sa/DEthe field

    O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.

    גַּם־בַּהֲמוֹתgam-ba/ha/MOTalso the beasts ofשָׂדֶהsa/DEthe fieldתַּעֲרוֹגta/a/ROGpantאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato Youכִּיkiforיָבְשׁוּya/ve/SHUare dried upאֲפִיקֵיa/fi/KEthe rivers ofמָיִםMA/yimwatersוְאֵשׁve/ESHand the fireאָכְלָהa/khe/LAhas devouredנְאוֹתne/OTthe pastures ofהַמִּדְבָּר׃ham/mid/BARthe wilderness

    The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
