Job 9 אִיּוֹב פרק ט׳

   וַיַּעַןand he answeredאִיּוֹבJobוַיֹּאמַר׃and said

   Then Job answered and said,

   אׇמְנָםverilyיָדַעְתִּיI knowכִי־כֵןthat thusוּמַה־יִּצְדַּקand how should be justאֱנוֹשׁmanעִם־אֵל׃with God

   I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?

3. 3

   אִם־יַחְפֹּץif he desiresלָרִיבto contendעִמּוֹwith himלֹא־יַעֲנֶנּוּhe cannot answer himאַחַתoneמִנִּי־אָלֶף׃of a thousand

   If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.

   חֲכַםwise inלֵבָבheartוְאַמִּיץand mighty inכֹּחַpowerמִי־הִקְשָׁהwho has hardened himselfאֵלָיוto himוַיִּשְׁלָם׃and has prospered

   He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?

   הַמַּעְתִּיקthe one who removesהָרִיםmountainsוְלֹאand notיָדָעוּthey knowאֲשֶׁרwhichהֲפָכָםhe overturns themבְּאַפּוֹ׃in His anger

   Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.

   הַמַּרְגִּיזthe one who shakesאֶרֶץthe land ofמִמְּקוֹמָהּout of her placeוְעַמּוּדֶיהָand its pillarsיִתְפַּלָּצוּן׃they tremble

   Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.

   הָאֹמֵרwho commandsלַחֶרֶסto the sunוְלֹאand notיִזְרָחit shinesוּבְעַדand forכּוֹכָבִיםstarsיַחְתֹּם׃seals up

   Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.

8. 8

   נֹטֶהwho spreads outשָׁמַיִםthe heavensלְבַדּוֹaloneוְדוֹרֵךְand one who treadsעַל־בׇּמֳתֵיupon the waves ofיָם׃the sea

   Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.

9. 9

   עֹשֶׂה־עָשׁwho makes ArcturusכְּסִילOrionוְכִימָהand Pleiadesוְחַדְרֵיand the chambers ofתֵמָן׃the south

   Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.

10. 10

    עֹשֶׂהdoגְדֹלוֹתgreat thingsעַד־אֵיןuntil there is noחֵקֶרfinding outוְנִפְלָאוֹתand wondersעַד־אֵיןuntil there is noמִסְפָּר׃number

    Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.

11. 11

    הֵןbeholdיַעֲבֹרhe goes byעָלַיupon meוְלֹאand notאֶרְאֶהI shall seeוְיַחֲלֹףhe passes on alsoוְלֹא־אָבִיןand not I will perceiveלוֹ׃to him

    Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.

12. 12

    הֵןbeholdיַחְתֹּףhe takes awayמִיwhoיְשִׁיבֶנּוּcan hinder himמִי־יֹאמַרwho will sayאֵלָיוto himמַה־תַּעֲשֶׂה׃what you make

    Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?

13. 13

    אֱלוֹהַּGodלֹא־יָשִׁיבwill not withdrawאַפּוֹHis angerתַּחְתָּוunder himשָׁחֲחוּthey lay prostrateעֹזְרֵיthe helpers ofרָהַב׃Rahab

    If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.

14. 14

    אַףmoreoverכִּי־אָנֹכִיbecause IאֶעֱנֶנּוּI will answer himאֶבְחֲרָהand choose outדְבָרַיmy wordsעִמּוֹ׃with him

    How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?

15. 15

    אֲשֶׁרwhichאִם־צָדַקְתִּיif I am righteousלֹאnotאֶעֱנֶהwould I answerלִמְשֹׁפְטִיto my judgeאֶתְחַנָּן׃I will seek favor

    Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.

16. 16

    אִם־קָרָאתִיif calledוַיַּעֲנֵנִיand he answered meלֹא־אַאֲמִיןwould I not believeכִּי־יַאֲזִיןthat he had hearkenedקוֹלִי׃my voice

    If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he had hearkened unto my voice.

17. 17

    אֲשֶׁר־בִּשְׂעָרָהfor with a tempestיְשׁוּפֵנִיhe breaks meוְהִרְבָּהand he increasesפְצָעַיmy woundsחִנָּם׃without cause

    For he breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause.

18. 18

    לֹא־יִתְּנֵנִיhe will not suffer meהָשֵׁבto takeרוּחִיmy spiritכִּיbecauseיַשְׂבִּעַנִיhe fills meמַמְּרֹרִים׃with bitterness

    He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.

19. 19

    אִם־לְכֹחַif of strengthאַמִּיץlo he is strongהִנֵּהbeholdוְאִם־לְמִשְׁפָּטand if to judgmentמִיwhoיוֹעִידֵנִי׃shall set me a time

    If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?

20. 20

    אִם־אֶצְדָּקif I justify myselfפִּיthe mouth ofיַרְשִׁיעֵנִיit will condemn as guilty meתׇּם־אָנִיI am perfectוַיַּעְקְשֵׁנִי׃it shall prove me perverse

    If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.

21. 21

    תׇּם־אָנִיthough I were perfectלֹא־אֵדַעnot I shall knowנַפְשִׁיmy lifeאֶמְאַסI would despiseחַיָּי׃my life

    Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.

22. 22

    אַחַתoneהִיאit isעַל־כֵּןthereforeאָמַרְתִּיI saidתָּםthe perfectוְרָשָׁעand the wickedהוּאheמְכַלֶּה׃he destroys

    This is one thing, therefore I said it, He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.

23. 23

    אִם־שׁוֹטif a scourgeיָמִיתshall he slayפִּתְאֹםsuddenlyלְמַסַּתat the trial ofנְקִיִּםinnocentיִלְעָג׃he will laugh

    If the scourge slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.

24. 24

    אֶרֶץthe land ofנִתְּנָהwas givenבְיַד־רָשָׁעby the hand of wickedפְּנֵי־שֹׁפְטֶיהָthe faces of the judges thereofיְכַסֶּהhe coveredאִם־לֹאif notאֵפוֹאthenמִי־הוּא׃where and who is he

    The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?

25. 25

    וְיָמַיand my daysקַלּוּthey were abatedמִנִּי־רָץthan a postבָּרְחוּthey flee awayלֹא־רָאוּnot sawטוֹבָה׃good

    Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.

26. 26

    חָלְפוּpassed awayעִם־אֳנִיּוֹתas the ships ofאֵבֶהswiftכְּנֶשֶׁרlike an eagleיָטוּשׂthat hastensעֲלֵי־אֹכֶל׃to the prey

    They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hasteth to the prey.

27. 27

    אִם־אׇמְרִיif I sayאֶשְׁכְּחָהI will forgetשִׂיחִיmy complaintאֶעֶזְבָהI will leave offפָנַיmy heavinessוְאַבְלִיגָה׃and I will be cheerful

    If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself:

28. 28

    יָגֹרְתִּיI am afraid ofכׇל־עַצְּבֹתָיall my sorrowsיָדַעְתִּיI knowכִּי־לֹאthat notתְנַקֵּנִי׃you will acquit me

    I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.

29. 29

    אָנֹכִיIאֶרְשָׁעif I be wickedלָמָּה־זֶּהwhy thisהֶבֶלin vainאִיגָע׃will I labor

    If I be wicked, why then labour I in vain?

30. 30

    אִם־הִתְרָחַצְתִּיif I washed myself(במו)[בְמֵי־]שָׁלֶגin water of snowוַהֲזִכּוֹתִיand make never so cleanבְּבֹרwith lyeכַּפָּי׃my hands

    If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;

31. 31

    אָזthenבַּשַּׁחַתin the pitתִּטְבְּלֵנִיshall you plunge meוְתִעֲבוּנִיand they will abhor meשַׂלְמוֹתָי׃my own clothes

    Yet shalt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me.

32. 32

    כִּי־לֹא־אִישׁfor he is not a manכָּמוֹנִיlike unto meאֶעֱנֶנּוּI will answer himנָבוֹאwe should comeיַחְדָּוtogetherבַּמִּשְׁפָּט׃in the judgment

    For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.

33. 33

    לֹאnotיֵשׁ־בֵּינֵינוּthere is among usמוֹכִיחַany daysmanיָשֵׁתthat might layיָדוֹhis handעַל־שְׁנֵינוּ׃upon the two of us

    Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both.

34. 34

    יָסֵרlet him removeמֵעָלַיfrom meשִׁבְטוֹhis rodוְאֵמָתוֹand his fearאַל־תְּבַעֲתַנִּי׃let not terrify me

    Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me:

35. 35

    אֲדַבְּרָהlet me speakוְלֹאand notאִירָאֶנּוּI will fear himכִּיbecauseלֹא־כֵןit is not soאָנֹכִיIעִמָּדִי׃with me

    Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.
