Job 9 אִיּוֹב פרק ט׳

   וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredאִיּוֹבIy/YOVJobוַיֹּאמַר׃vay/yo/MARand said

   Then Job answered and said,

   אׇמְנָםom/NAMtrulyיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiI knowכִי־כֵןkhi-khenthat it is soוּמַה־יִּצְדַּקu/MA-yits/DAKbut how can be righteousאֱנוֹשׁe/NOSHmanעִם־אֵל׃im-elbefore God

   I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?

3. 3

   אִם־יַחְפֹּץim-yach/POTSif one wishedלָרִיבla/RIVto contendעִמּוֹim/MOwith Himלֹא־יַעֲנֶנּוּlo-ya/a/NEN/nuhe could not answer Himאַחַתa/CHAToneמִנִּי־אָלֶף׃min/NI-A/lefof a thousand

   If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.

   חֲכַםcha/KHAMwise ofלֵבָבle/VAVheartוְאַמִּיץve/am/MITSand mighty inכֹּחַKO/achpowerמִי־הִקְשָׁהmi-hik/SHAwho has hardened himselfאֵלָיוe/LAYVagainst Himוַיִּשְׁלָם׃vay/yish/LAMand remained unharmed

   He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?

   הַמַּעְתִּיקham/ma/TIKwho removesהָרִיםha/RIMmountainsוְלֹאve/LOand notיָדָעוּya/DA/udo they knowאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhenהֲפָכָםha/fa/KHAMHe overturns themבְּאַפּוֹ׃be/ap/POin His anger

   Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.

   הַמַּרְגִּיזham/mar/GIZwho shakesאֶרֶץE/retsthe earthמִמְּקוֹמָהּmim/me/ko/MAout of its placeוְעַמּוּדֶיהָve/am/mu/DE/haand its pillarsיִתְפַּלָּצוּן׃yit/pal/la/TSUNtremble

   Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.

   הָאֹמֵרha/o/MERwho commandsלַחֶרֶסla/CHE/resthe sunוְלֹאve/LOand notיִזְרָחyiz/RACHit does riseוּבְעַדu/ve/ADand aroundכּוֹכָבִיםko/kha/VIMstarsיַחְתֹּם׃yach/TOMHe seals

   Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.

   נֹטֶהno/TEwho stretches outשָׁמַיִםsha/MA/yimthe heavensלְבַדּוֹle/vad/DOaloneוְדוֹרֵךְve/do/REKHand treadsעַל־בׇּמֳתֵיal-bo/mo/TEupon the waves ofיָם׃yamthe sea

   Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.

9. 9

   עֹשֶׂה־עָשׁo/SE-Ashwho makes ArcturusכְּסִילKe/SILOrionוְכִימָהve/Khi/MAand Pleiadesוְחַדְרֵיve/chad/REand the chambers ofתֵמָן׃te/MANthe south

   Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.

    עֹשֶׂהo/SEwho doesגְדֹלוֹתge/do/LOTgreat thingsעַד־אֵיןad-enwithoutחֵקֶרCHE/kersearchingוְנִפְלָאוֹתve/nif/la/OTand wondersעַד־אֵיןad-enwithoutמִסְפָּר׃mis/PARnumber

    Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.

11. 11

    הֵןhenbeholdיַעֲבֹרya/a/VORHe passesעָלַיa/LAYby meוְלֹאve/LOand notאֶרְאֶהer/Edo I see Himוְיַחֲלֹףve/ya/cha/LOFHe moves onוְלֹא־אָבִיןve/LO-a/VINbut I do not perceiveלוֹ׃loHim

    Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.

12. 12

    הֵןhenbeholdיַחְתֹּףyach/TOFHe snatches awayמִיmiwhoיְשִׁיבֶנּוּye/shi/VEN/nucan turn Him backמִי־יֹאמַרmi-yo/MARwho will sayאֵלָיוe/LAYVto Himמַה־תַּעֲשֶׂה׃ma-ta/a/SEwhat are You doing

    Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?

13. 13

    אֱלוֹהַּe/LO/ahGodלֹא־יָשִׁיבlo-ya/SHIVwill not turn backאַפּוֹap/POHis angerתַּחְתָּוtach/TAVbeneath Himשָׁחֲחוּsha/cha/CHUbowעֹזְרֵיOZ/rethe helpers ofרָהַב׃RA/havRahab

    If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.

14. 14

    אַףafhow much lessכִּי־אָנֹכִיki-a/no/KHIIאֶעֱנֶנּוּe/e/NEN/nushall answer Himאֶבְחֲרָהev/cha/RAchooseדְבָרַיde/va/RAYmy wordsעִמּוֹ׃im/MOwith Him

    How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?

15. 15

    אֲשֶׁרa/SHERthoughאִם־צָדַקְתִּיim-tsa/DAK/tiif I were righteousלֹאlonotאֶעֱנֶהe/e/NEcould I answerלִמְשֹׁפְטִיLim/shof/TImy Judgeאֶתְחַנָּן׃et/chan/NANI would plead for mercy

    Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.

16. 16

    אִם־קָרָאתִיim-ka/RA/tiif I calledוַיַּעֲנֵנִיvay/ya/a/NE/niand He answered meלֹא־אַאֲמִיןlo-a/a/MINI would not believeכִּי־יַאֲזִיןki-ya/a/ZINthat He had listened toקוֹלִי׃ko/LImy voice

    If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he had hearkened unto my voice.

17. 17

    אֲשֶׁר־בִּשְׂעָרָהa/SHER-bis/a/RAwho with a tempestיְשׁוּפֵנִיye/shu/FE/nicrushes meוְהִרְבָּהve/hir/BAand multipliesפְצָעַיfe/tsa/AYmy woundsחִנָּם׃chin/NAMwithout cause

    For he breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause.

18. 18

    לֹא־יִתְּנֵנִיlo-yit/te/NE/niHe will not let meהָשֵׁבha/SHEVcatchרוּחִיru/CHImy spiritכִּיkibutיַשְׂבִּעַנִיyas/bi/A/nifills meמַמְּרֹרִים׃mam/me/ro/RIMwith bitterness

    He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.

19. 19

    אִם־לְכֹחַim-le/KHO/achif of strengthאַמִּיץam/MITSHe is mightyהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdוְאִם־לְמִשְׁפָּטve/IM-le/mish/PATand if of judgmentמִיmiwhoיוֹעִידֵנִי׃yo/i/DE/niwill summon me

    If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?

20. 20

    אִם־אֶצְדָּקim-ets/DAKthough I were righteousפִּיpimy own mouthיַרְשִׁיעֵנִיyar/shi/E/niwould condemn meתׇּם־אָנִיtom-A/nithough I were blamelessוַיַּעְקְשֵׁנִי׃vay/ya/ke/SHE/niit would prove me perverse

    If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.

21. 21

    תׇּם־אָנִיtom-A/niI am blamelessלֹא־אֵדַעlo-e/DAI do not knowנַפְשִׁיnaf/SHImyselfאֶמְאַסem/ASI loatheחַיָּי׃chay/YAYmy life

    Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.

22. 22

    אַחַתa/CHATit is one thingהִיאhiit isעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeאָמַרְתִּיa/MAR/tiI saidתָּםtamthe blamelessוְרָשָׁעve/ra/SHAand the wickedהוּאhuHeמְכַלֶּה׃me/khal/LEdestroys

    This is one thing, therefore I said it, He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.

23. 23

    אִם־שׁוֹטim-shotif the scourgeיָמִיתya/MITkillsפִּתְאֹםpit/OMsuddenlyלְמַסַּתle/mas/SATat the despair ofנְקִיִּםne/kiy/YIMthe innocentיִלְעָג׃yil/AGhe will laugh

    If the scourge slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.

24. 24

    אֶרֶץE/retsthe earthנִתְּנָהnit/te/NAis givenבְיַד־רָשָׁעve/YAD-ra/SHAinto the hand of the wickedפְּנֵי־שֹׁפְטֶיהָpe/NE-shof/TE/hathe faces of its judgesיְכַסֶּהye/khas/SEHe coversאִם־לֹאim-loif notאֵפוֹאe/FOthenמִי־הוּא׃mi-huwho is it

    The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?

25. 25

    וְיָמַיve/ya/MAYnow my daysקַלּוּKAL/luare swifterמִנִּי־רָץmin/NI-ratsthan a runnerבָּרְחוּba/re/CHUthey fleeלֹא־רָאוּlo-ra/Uthey see noטוֹבָה׃to/VAgood

    Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.

26. 26

    חָלְפוּCHAL/futhey pass byעִם־אֳנִיּוֹתim-o/niy/YOTlike ships ofאֵבֶהe/VEreedכְּנֶשֶׁרke/NE/sherlike an eagleיָטוּשׂya/TUSthat swoopsעֲלֵי־אֹכֶל׃a/LE-O/khelon its prey

    They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hasteth to the prey.

27. 27

    אִם־אׇמְרִיim-om/RIif I sayאֶשְׁכְּחָהesh/ke/CHAI will forgetשִׂיחִיsi/CHImy complaintאֶעֶזְבָהe/ez/VAI will put offפָנַיfa/NAYmy sad faceוְאַבְלִיגָה׃ve/av/LI/gaand be of good cheer

    If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself:

    יָגֹרְתִּיya/GOR/tiI dreadכׇל־עַצְּבֹתָיkhol-ats/tse/vo/TAYall my sufferingsיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiI knowכִּי־לֹאki-lothat notתְנַקֵּנִי׃te/nak/KE/niYou will hold me innocent

    I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.

29. 29

    אָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIאֶרְשָׁעer/SHAshall be condemnedלָמָּה־זֶּהLAM/ma-zewhy thenהֶבֶלHE/velin vainאִיגָע׃i/GAdo I labor

    If I be wicked, why then labour I in vain?

30. 30

    אִם־הִתְרָחַצְתִּיim-hit/ra/CHATS/tiif I wash myself(במו)vamav[בְמֵי־]שָׁלֶגve/ME-SHA/legwith snow waterוַהֲזִכּוֹתִיva/ha/zik/KO/tiand cleanseבְּבֹרbe/VORwith lyeכַּפָּי׃kap/PAYmy hands

    If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;

31. 31

    אָזazthenבַּשַּׁחַתbash/SHA/chatin the pitתִּטְבְּלֵנִיtit/be/LE/niYou would plunge meוְתִעֲבוּנִיve/ti/a/VU/niand would abhor meשַׂלְמוֹתָי׃sal/mo/TAYmy own clothes

    Yet shalt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me.

32. 32

    כִּי־לֹא־אִישׁki-lo-ishfor He is not a manכָּמוֹנִיka/MO/nias I amאֶעֱנֶנּוּe/e/NEN/nuthat I should answer Himנָבוֹאna/VOthat we should comeיַחְדָּוyach/DAVtogetherבַּמִּשְׁפָּט׃bam/mish/PATto trial

    For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.

33. 33

    לֹאlothere is noיֵשׁ־בֵּינֵינוּyesh-be/NE/nubetween usמוֹכִיחַmo/KHI/acharbiterיָשֵׁתya/SHETwho might layיָדוֹya/DOhis handעַל־שְׁנֵינוּ׃al-she/NE/nuon us both

    Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both.

34. 34

    יָסֵרya/SERlet Him take awayמֵעָלַיme/a/LAYfrom meשִׁבְטוֹshiv/TOHis rodוְאֵמָתוֹve/e/ma/TOand His terrorאַל־תְּבַעֲתַנִּי׃al-te/va/a/TAN/nilet not terrify me

    Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me:

35. 35

    אֲדַבְּרָהa/dab/be/RAthen I would speakוְלֹאve/LOand notאִירָאֶנּוּi/ra/EN/nufear Himכִּיkiforלֹא־כֵןlo-khenit is not soאָנֹכִיa/no/KHII amעִמָּדִי׃im/ma/DIwith myself

    Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.
