Job 8 אִיּוֹב פרק ח׳

1. 1

   וַיַּעַןand he answeredבִּלְדַּדBildadהַשּׁוּחִיthe Shuhiteוַיֹּאמַר׃and said

   Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

   עַד־אָןhow longתְּמַלֶּל־אֵלֶּהwill you speak these thingsוְרוּחַand a windכַּבִּירstrongאִמְרֵי־פִיךָ׃the words of your mouth

   How long wilt thou speak these things? and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind?

3. 3

   הַאֵלdoes Godיְעַוֵּתpervertמִשְׁפָּטjudgmentוְאִם־שַׁדַּיor the Almightyיְעַוֵּת־צֶדֶק׃pervert justice

   Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice?

4. 4

   אִם־בָּנֶיךָif your sonsחָטְאוּ־לוֹhave sinned against himוַיְשַׁלְּחֵםand he sent away themבְּיַד־פִּשְׁעָם׃in the hand of their transgression

   If thy children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression;

5. 5

   אִם־אַתָּהif youתְּשַׁחֵרwould seek betimesאֶל־אֵלunto Godוְאֶל־שַׁדַּיand to the Almightyתִּתְחַנָּן׃make your supplication

   If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty;

6. 6

   אִם־זַךְif are pureוְיָשָׁרand uprightאָתָּהyou areכִּי־עַתָּהbecause nowיָעִירHe would awakeעָלֶיךָupon youוְשִׁלַּםand he will repayנְוַתthe habitation ofצִדְקֶךָ׃your righteousness

   If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.

7. 7

   וְהָיָהthough wasרֵאשִׁיתְךָyour beginningמִצְעָרsmallוְאַחֲרִיתְךָand your latter endיִשְׂגֶּהshould increaseמְאֹד׃exceedingly

   Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.

8. 8

   כִּי־שְׁאַל־נָאbecause ask I prayלְדֹרof the ageרִישׁוֹןformerוְכוֹנֵןand prepare yourselfלְחֵקֶרto the searching ofאֲבוֹתָם׃their fathers

   For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers:

   כִּי־תְמוֹלfor we are but of yesterdayאֲנַחְנוּweוְלֹאand notנֵדָעknow nothingכִּיbecauseצֵלa shadow ofיָמֵינוּour daysעֲלֵי־אָרֶץ׃on the earth

   (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)

10. 10

    הֲלֹא־הֵםis it not theyיוֹרוּךָshall they teach youיֹאמְרוּshall sayלָךְto youוּמִלִּבָּםand from their heartיוֹצִאוּand utterמִלִּים׃words

    Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?

11. 11

    הֲיִגְאֶה־גֹּמֶאcan the rush grow upבְּלֹאwithoutבִצָּהmireיִשְׂגֶּה־אָחוּcan the flag growבְלִי־מָיִם׃without water

    Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water?

12. 12

    עֹדֶנּוּstill itבְאִבּוֹin its greennessלֹאnotיִקָּטֵףcut downוְלִפְנֵיand beforeכׇל־חָצִירany other herbיִיבָשׁ׃it withers

    Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb.

13. 13

    כֵּןthusאׇרְחוֹתthe paths ofכׇּל־שֹׁכְחֵיall those who forgetאֵלGodוְתִקְוַתand hope ofחָנֵףa hypocriteתֹּאבֵד׃shall perish

    So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish:

14. 14

    אֲשֶׁר־יָקוֹטwhose shall be cut offכִּסְלוֹhis confidenceוּבֵיתand house ofעַכָּבִישׁa spiderמִבְטַחוֹ׃his trust

    Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web.

15. 15

    יִשָּׁעֵןhe shall leanעַל־בֵּיתוֹupon his householdוְלֹאand notיַעֲמֹדshall standיַחֲזִיקhe shall hold it fastבּוֹin itוְלֹאand notיָקוּם׃he shall rise

    He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.

16. 16

    רָטֹבhe is greenהוּאheלִפְנֵי־שָׁמֶשׁbefore the sunוְעַלand uponגַּנָּתוֹits gardenיֹנַקְתּוֹhis branchתֵצֵא׃shoots forth

    He is green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden.

17. 17

    עַל־גַּלabout the heapשׇׁרָשָׁיוits rootsיְסֻבָּכוּare wrappedבֵּיתthe place ofאֲבָנִיםstonesיֶחֱזֶה׃and sees

    His roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones.

18. 18

    אִם־יְבַלְּעֶנּוּif he destroy himמִמְּקֹמוֹfrom his placeוְכִחֶשׁthen it shall denyבּוֹin itלֹאnotרְאִיתִיךָ׃I have not seen you

    If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee.

19. 19

    הֶן־הוּאbehold it isמְשׂוֹשׂthe joy ofדַּרְכּוֹhis wayוּמֵעָפָרand from the dustאַחֵרotherיִצְמָחוּ׃they may grow

    Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.

20. 20

    הֶן־אֵלbehold Godלֹאnotיִמְאַס־תָּםcast away a perfect manוְלֹא־יַחֲזִיקneither will he helpבְּיַד־מְרֵעִים׃in the hand of evildoers

    Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers:

21. 21

    עַד־יְמַלֵּהuntil he will fillשְׂחוֹקlaughterפִּיךָyour mouthוּשְׂפָתֶיךָand your lipsתְרוּעָה׃a shout of joy

    Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing.

22. 22

    שֹׂנְאֶיךָthose who hate youיִלְבְּשׁוּ־בֹשֶׁתshall be clothed with shameוְאֹהֶלand the dwelling place ofרְשָׁעִיםwicked menאֵינֶנּוּ׃shall come to nought

    They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.
