Job 7 אִיּוֹב פרק ז׳

1. 1

   הֲלֹא־צָבָאis there not an appointed timeלֶאֱנוֹשׁto man(על)[עֲלֵי־]אָרֶץupon earthוְכִימֵיand like the days ofשָׂכִירa hired workerיָמָיו׃his days

   Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of an hireling?

2. 2

   כְּעֶבֶדlike a slaveיִשְׁאַף־צֵלearnestly desires the shadowוּכְשָׂכִירand like a hired laborerיְקַוֶּהhopesפׇעֳלוֹ׃the reward of his work

   As a servant earnestly desireth the shadow, and as an hireling looketh for the reward of his work:

   כֵּןthusהׇנְחַלְתִּיam I made to possessלִיto meיַרְחֵי־שָׁוְאmonths of vanityוְלֵילוֹתand nights ofעָמָלwearisomeמִנּוּ־לִי׃are appointed to me

   So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.

   אִם־שָׁכַבְתִּיif I lay withוְאָמַרְתִּיand I will sayמָתַיwhenאָקוּםwill I ariseוּמִדַּד־עָרֶבand the night be goneוְשָׂבַעְתִּיand I am full ofנְדֻדִיםtossings to and froעֲדֵי־נָשֶׁף׃unto the dawning of the day

   When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? and I am full of tossings to and fro unto the dawning of the day.

   לָבַשׁis clothedבְּשָׂרִיmy fleshרִמָּהthe worm[וְגוּשׁ]and clods ofעָפָרdustעוֹרִיmy skinרָגַעis brokenוַיִּמָּאֵס׃and become loathsome

   My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust; my skin is broken, and become loathsome.

6. 6

   יָמַיmy daysקַלּוּare swifterמִנִּי־אָרֶגthan a weaver's shuttleוַיִּכְלוּand are spentבְּאֶפֶסwithoutתִּקְוָה׃hope

   My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope.

7. 7

   זְכֹרrememberכִּי־רוּחַthat is windחַיָּיmy lifeלֹא־תָשׁוּבshall no moreעֵינִיmy eyeלִרְאוֹתto seeטוֹב׃good

   O remember that my life is wind: mine eye shall no more see good.

8. 8

   לֹא־תְשׁוּרֵנִיshall see me no moreעֵיןthe eye ofרֹאִיthe one who sees meעֵינֶיךָyour eyesבִּיupon meוְאֵינֶנִּי׃and I am not

   The eye of him that hath seen me shall see me no more: thine eyes are upon me, and I am not.

9. 9

   כָּלָהis consumedעָנָןa cloudוַיֵּלַךְand vanishes awayכֵּןthusיוֹרֵדhe that goes downשְׁאוֹלSheolלֹאnotיַעֲלֶה׃shall come up

   As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more.

10. 10

    לֹא־יָשׁוּבnot returnעוֹדany moreלְבֵיתוֹto his houseוְלֹא־יַכִּירֶנּוּneither shall know himעוֹדany moreמְקֹמוֹ׃its place

    He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.

11. 11

    גַּם־אֲנִיalso Iלֹאnotאֶחֱשׇׂךְ־פִּיI will refrain my mouthאֲדַבְּרָהlet me speakבְּצַרin the anguish ofרוּחִיmy spiritאָשִׂיחָהI will complainבְּמַרin the bitterness ofנַפְשִׁי׃my life

    Therefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

12. 12

    הֲיָם־אָנִיam I a seaאִם־תַּנִּיןor a whaleכִּי־תָשִׂיםthat you will putעָלַיupon meמִשְׁמָר׃a watch

    Am I a sea, or a whale, that thou settest a watch over me?

13. 13

    כִּי־אָמַרְתִּיbecause I saidתְּנַחֲמֵנִיshall comfort meעַרְשִׂיmy couchיִשָּׂאshall easeבְשִׂיחִיin my complaintמִשְׁכָּבִי׃my bed

    When I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaint;

14. 14

    וְחִתַּתַּנִיand you will dismay meבַחֲלֹמוֹתby dreamsוּמֵחֶזְיֹנוֹתand from visionsתְּבַעֲתַנִּי׃you will terrify me

    Then thou scarest me with dreams, and terrifiest me through visions:

15. 15

    וַתִּבְחַרchoosesמַחֲנָקstranglingנַפְשִׁיmy lifeמָוֶתdeathמֵעַצְמוֹתָי׃rather than my life

    So that my soul chooseth strangling, and death rather than my life.

16. 16

    מָאַסְתִּיI loathe itלֹא־לְעֹלָםnot for everאֶחְיֶהI will liveחֲדַלceaseמִמֶּנִּיfrom meכִּי־הֶבֶלfor are vanityיָמָי׃my days

    I loathe it; I would not live alway: let me alone; for my days are vanity.

17. 17

    מָה־אֱנוֹשׁwhat is manכִּיthatתְגַדְּלֶנּוּyou will make great himוְכִי־תָשִׁיתand that you will setאֵלָיוto himלִבֶּךָ׃your heart

    What is man, that thou shouldest magnify him? and that thou shouldest set thine heart upon him?

18. 18

    וַתִּפְקְדֶנּוּand you have visited himלִבְקָרִיםevery morningלִרְגָעִיםevery momentתִּבְחָנֶנּוּ׃you test him

    And that thou shouldest visit him every morning, and try him every moment?

19. 19

    כַּמָּהhow longלֹא־תִשְׁעֶהwill you not departמִמֶּנִּיfrom meלֹא־תַרְפֵּנִיnor let me aloneעַד־בִּלְעִיuntil swallow Iרֻקִּי׃my spittle

    How long wilt thou not depart from me, nor let me alone till I swallow down my spittle?

20. 20

    חָטָאתִיhave I sinnedמָהwhatאֶפְעַלshall I doלָךְto youנֹצֵרO preserver ofהָאָדָםmenלָמָהwhyשַׂמְתַּנִיhave you set meלְמִפְגָּעas a markלָךְto youוָאֶהְיֶהand I have beenעָלַיupon meלְמַשָּׂא׃a burden

    I have sinned; what shall I do unto thee, O thou preserver of men? why hast thou set me as a mark against thee, so that I am a burden to myself?

21. 21

    וּמֶהand whatלֹא־תִשָּׂאnot takeפִשְׁעִיmy transgressionוְתַעֲבִירand take awayאֶת־עֲוֺנִיmy iniquityכִּי־עַתָּהbecause nowלֶעָפָרto the dustאֶשְׁכָּבshall I sleepוְשִׁחַרְתַּנִיand you shall seek meוְאֵינֶנִּי׃and I am not

    And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away mine iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt seek me in the morning, but I shall not be.
