Job 6 אִיּוֹב פרק ו׳

1. 1

   וַיַּעַןand he answeredאִיּוֹבJobוַיֹּאמַר׃and said

   But Job answered and said,

   לוּoh thatשָׁקוֹלweighedיִשָּׁקֵלit will be weighedכַּעְשִׂיmy grief[וְהַוָּתִי]and my calamityבְּמֹאזְנַיִםin the balancesיִשְׂאוּ־יָחַד׃laid together

   Oh that my grief were throughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together!

3. 3

   כִּי־עַתָּהbecause nowמֵחוֹלmore than the sand ofיַמִּיםseasיִכְבָּדit will be heavyעַל־כֵּןthereforeדְּבָרַיmy wordsלָעוּ׃are swallowed up

   For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: therefore my words are swallowed up.

   כִּיforחִצֵּיthe arrows ofשַׁדַּיAlmightyעִמָּדִיwith meאֲשֶׁרwhichחֲמָתָםthe poison whereofשֹׁתָהdrinks upרוּחִיmy spiritבִּעוּתֵיthe terrors ofאֱלוֹהַּGodיַעַרְכוּנִי׃set themselves against me

   For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof drinketh up my spirit: the terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

   הֲיִנְהַק־פֶּרֶאdoes the wild ass brayעֲלֵי־דֶשֶׁאon grassאִםifיִגְעֶה־שּׁוֹרdoes it low an oxעַל־בְּלִילוֹ׃upon its fodder

   Doth the wild ass bray when he hath grass? or loweth the ox over his fodder?

6. 6

   הֲיֵאָכֵלis it eatenתָּפֵלthat which is unsavoryמִבְּלִי־מֶלַחwithout saltאִם־יֶשׁ־טַעַםif has tasteבְּרִירin the white ofחַלָּמוּת׃an egg

   Can that which is unsavoury be eaten without salt? or is there any taste in the white of an egg?

7. 7

   מֵאֲנָהit refusesלִנְגּוֹעַto touchנַפְשִׁיmy lifeהֵמָּהtheyכִּדְוֵיas my sorrowfulלַחְמִי׃my food

   The things that my soul refused to touch are as my sorrowful meat.

8. 8

   מִי־יִתֵּןoh thatתָּבוֹאcome shallשֶׁאֱלָתִיmy petitionוְתִקְוָתִיand my hopeיִתֵּןshall giveאֱלוֹהַּ׃God

   Oh that I might have my request; and that God would grant me the thing that I long for!

9. 9

   וְיֹאֵלand may he be willingאֱלוֹהַּGodוִידַכְּאֵנִיand may he crush meיַתֵּרmay he loosenיָדוֹhis handוִיבַצְּעֵנִי׃and may he cut off me

   Even that it would please God to destroy me; that he would let loose his hand, and cut me off!

10. 10

    וּתְהִי־עוֹדthen should I yet haveנֶחָמָתִיmy comfortוַאֲסַלְּדָהand I would harden myselfבְחִילָהin sorrowלֹאnotיַחְמוֹלlet him not spareכִּי־לֹאthat notכִחַדְתִּיI have hiddenאִמְרֵיwords ofקָדוֹשׁ׃holy

    Then should I yet have comfort; yea, I would harden myself in sorrow: let him not spare; for I have not concealed the words of the Holy One.

11. 11

    מַה־כֹּחִיwhat my strengthכִי־אֲיַחֵלthat I will waitוּמַה־קִּצִּיand what is my endכִּי־אַאֲרִיךְthat I should prolongנַפְשִׁי׃my life

    What is my strength, that I should hope? and what is mine end, that I should prolong my life?

12. 12

    אִם־כֹּחַis the strength ofאֲבָנִיםstonesכֹּחִיmy strengthאִם־בְּשָׂרִיif my fleshנָחוּשׁ׃of brass

    Is my strength the strength of stones? or is my flesh of brass?

13. 13

    הַאִםis it thatאֵיןthere is noעֶזְרָתִיmy helpבִיin meוְתֻשִׁיָּהand sound wisdomנִדְּחָהis driven quiteמִמֶּנִּי׃from me

    Is not my help in me? and is wisdom driven quite from me?

14. 14

    לַמָּסto him that is afflictedמֵרֵעֵהוּfrom his friendחָסֶדpityוְיִרְאַתand of the fear ofשַׁדַּיAlmightyיַעֲזוֹב׃he will forsake

    To him that is afflicted pity should be shewed from his friend; but he forsaketh the fear of the Almighty.

15. 15

    אַחַיmy brothersבָּגְדוּthey have acted treacherouslyכְמוֹ־נָחַלlike a riverכַּאֲפִיקlike a stream bed ofנְחָלִיםstreamsיַעֲבֹרוּ׃they passed over

    My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks they pass away;

16. 16

    הַקֹּדְרִיםwhich are blackishמִנִּי־קָרַחby reason of the iceעָלֵימוֹon themיִתְעַלֶּם־שָׁלֶג׃it hides itself snow

    Which are blackish by reason of the ice, and wherein the snow is hid:

17. 17

    בְּעֵתin timeיְזֹרְבוּwhen they wax warmנִצְמָתוּthey vanishבְּחֻמּוֹin its heatנִדְעֲכוּthey are dried upמִמְּקוֹמָם׃from their place

    What time they wax warm, they vanish: when it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.

18. 18

    יִלָּפְתוּare turned asideאׇרְחוֹתthe paths ofדַּרְכָּםtheir wayיַעֲלוּthey go upבַתֹּהוּto nothingוְיֹאבֵדוּ׃and they shall perish

    The paths of their way are turned aside; they go to nothing, and perish.

19. 19

    הִבִּיטוּthey regardedאׇרְחוֹתthe troops ofתֵּמָאTemaהֲלִיכֹתthe companies ofשְׁבָאShebaקִוּוּ־לָמוֹ׃waited for them

    The troops of Tema looked, the companies of Sheba waited for them.

20. 20

    בֹּשׁוּthey are disappointedכִי־בָטָחbecause they had hopedבָּאוּcameעָדֶיהָto itוַיֶּחְפָּרוּ׃and they were disappointed

    They were confounded because they had hoped; they came thither, and were ashamed.

21. 21

    כִּי־עַתָּהbecause nowהֱיִיתֶםyou areלֹאnothingתִּרְאוּyou shall witnessחֲתַתmy casting downוַתִּירָאוּ׃and you were afraid

    For now ye are nothing; ye see my casting down, and are afraid.

22. 22

    הֲכִי־אָמַרְתִּיindeed I saidהָבוּgiveלִיto meוּמִכֹּחֲכֶםand of your substanceשִׁחֲדוּgive a rewardבַעֲדִי׃for me

    Did I say, Bring unto me? or, Give a reward for me of your substance?

23. 23

    וּמַלְּטוּנִיand rescue meמִיַּד־צָרfrom the enemy's handוּמִיַּדor out of the hands ofעָרִיצִיםthe mightyתִּפְדּוּנִי׃you will ransom me

    Or, Deliver me from the enemy's hand? or, Redeem me from the hand of the mighty?

24. 24

    הוֹרוּנִיteach meוַאֲנִיand IאַחֲרִישׁI will keep silentוּמַה־שָּׁגִיתִיyea and what have I erredהָבִינוּcause me to understandלִי׃to me

    Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand wherein I have erred.

25. 25

    מַה־נִּמְרְצוּhow forcible areאִמְרֵי־יֹשֶׁרwords of uprightnessוּמַה־יּוֹכִיחַbut what does reproveהוֹכֵחַyour arguingמִכֶּם׃from you

    How forcible are right words! but what doth your arguing reprove?

26. 26

    הַלְהוֹכַחto reproveמִלִּיםwordsתַּחְשֹׁבוּdo you imagineוּלְרוּחַwhich are as windאִמְרֵיwords ofנֹאָשׁ׃one who despairs

    Do ye imagine to reprove words, and the speeches of one that is desperate, which are as wind?

27. 27

    אַף־עַל־יָתוֹםyea upon a fatherless oneתַּפִּילוּyou will make fallוְתִכְרוּand you dig a pitעַל־רֵיעֲכֶם׃upon your friend

    Yea, ye overwhelm the fatherless, and ye dig a pit for your friend.

28. 28

    וְעַתָּהand nowהוֹאִילוּbe willingפְנוּ־בִיlook upon meוְעַל־פְּנֵיכֶםand it is evident to youאִם־אֲכַזֵּב׃if lie

    Now therefore be content, look upon me; for it is evident unto you if I lie.

29. 29

    שׁוּבוּ־נָאreturn I prayאַל־תְּהִיdo not beעַוְלָהinjustice(ושבי)[וְשׁוּבוּ]and returnעוֹדany moreצִדְקִי־בָהּ׃my righteousness is in it

    Return, I pray you, let it not be iniquity; yea, return again, my righteousness is in it.

30. 30

    הֲיֵשׁ־בִּלְשׁוֹנִיis there in my tongueעַוְלָהinjusticeאִם־חִכִּיif my palateלֹא־יָבִיןnot understandהַוּוֹת׃perverse things

    Is there iniquity in my tongue? cannot my taste discern perverse things?
