Job 5 אִיּוֹב פרק ה׳

1. 1

   קְרָא־נָאcall now I prayהֲיֵשׁis thereעוֹנֶךָּone who answers youוְאֶל־מִיand to whichמִקְּדֹשִׁיםof the saintsתִּפְנֶה׃it will turn

   Call now, if there be any that will answer thee; and to which of the saints wilt thou turn?

2. 2

   כִּי־לֶאֱוִילfor the foolish manיַהֲרׇג־כָּעַשׂwrath killsוּפֹתֶהand the silly oneתָּמִיתslaysקִנְאָה׃jealousy

   For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one.

3. 3

   אֲנִי־רָאִיתִיI have seenאֱוִילfoolמַשְׁרִישׁtaking rootוָאֶקּוֹבand I cursedנָוֵהוּhis habitationפִתְאֹם׃suddenly

   I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.

   יִרְחֲקוּthey are distantבָנָיוhis sonsמִיֶּשַׁעfrom safetyוְיִדַּכְּאוּand they are crushedבַשַּׁעַרby the gateוְאֵיןand there is noמַצִּיל׃any to deliver

   His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them.

   אֲשֶׁרwhichקְצִירוֹhis harvestרָעֵבthe hungryיֹאכֵלeats upוְאֶל־מִצִּנִּיםand out of the thornsיִקָּחֵהוּtakes itוְשָׁאַףand swallows upצַמִּיםthe robberחֵילָם׃their substance

   Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the robber swalloweth up their substance.

   כִּיforלֹא־יֵצֵאcomes not forthמֵעָפָרfrom the dustאָוֶןafflictionוּמֵאֲדָמָהand from the groundלֹא־יִצְמַחnot it sproutsעָמָל׃trouble

   Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;

   כִּי־אָדָםbecause manלְעָמָלto troubleיוּלָּדhe is bornוּבְנֵי־רֶשֶׁףand the sparksיַגְבִּיהוּflyעוּף׃upward

   Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.

8. 8

   אוּלָםneverthelessאֲנִיIאֶדְרֹשׁwould seekאֶל־אֵלunto Godוְאֶל־אֱלֹהִיםand unto Godאָשִׂיםwould I commitדִּבְרָתִי׃my cause

   I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:

   עֹשֶׂהwho doesגְדֹלוֹתgreat thingsוְאֵיןand there is noחֵקֶרunsearchableנִפְלָאוֹתmarvelous thingsעַד־אֵיןuntil there is noמִסְפָּר׃number

   Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number:

10. 10

    הַנֹּתֵןthe one givingמָטָרrainעַל־פְּנֵי־אָרֶץupon the face of the earthוְשֹׁלֵחַand who sendsמַיִםwaterעַל־פְּנֵיupon the face ofחוּצוֹת׃the fields

    Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields:

11. 11

    לָשׂוּםto putשְׁפָלִיםthose that be lowלְמָרוֹםto a high placeוְקֹדְרִיםand those which mournשָׂגְבוּmay be exaltedיֶשַׁע׃safety

    To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.

12. 12

    מֵפֵרwho frustratesמַחְשְׁבוֹתthe devices ofעֲרוּמִיםthe craftyוְלֹא־תַעֲשֶׂנָהso that cannot performיְדֵיהֶםtheir handsתֻּשִׁיָּה׃their enterprise

    He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.

13. 13

    לֹכֵדhe takesחֲכָמִיםwiseבְּעׇרְמָםin their own craftinessוַעֲצַתand the plan ofנִפְתָּלִיםthe frowardנִמְהָרָה׃is carried headlong

    He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.

14. 14

    יוֹמָםby dayיְפַגְּשׁוּ־חֹשֶׁךְthey meet darknessוְכַלַּיְלָהas in the nightיְמַשְׁשׁוּthey gropeבַצׇּהֳרָיִם׃at the noon

    They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope in the noonday as in the night.

15. 15

    וַיֹּשַׁעbut he savesמֵחֶרֶבfrom the swordמִפִּיהֶםfrom their mouthוּמִיַּדand from the hand ofחָזָקthe mightyאֶבְיוֹן׃the poor

    But he saveth the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.

16. 16

    וַתְּהִיso hasלַדַּלto the poor personתִּקְוָהhopeוְעֹלָתָהand iniquityקָפְצָהstopsפִּיהָ׃its mouth

    So the poor hath hope, and iniquity stoppeth her mouth.

17. 17

    הִנֵּהbeholdאַשְׁרֵיblessed areאֱנוֹשׁthe manיוֹכִחֶנּוּwhom correctsאֱלוֹהַּGodוּמוּסַרand the discipline ofשַׁדַּיthe Almightyאַל־תִּמְאָס׃despise not

    Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:

18. 18

    כִּיforהוּאheיַכְאִיבmakes soreוְיֶחְבָּשׁand he may bind upיִמְחַץhe woundsוְיָדָוand his handsתִּרְפֶּינָה׃make whole

    For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.

19. 19

    בְּשֵׁשׁin sixצָרוֹתafflictionsיַצִּילֶךָּhe will deliver youוּבְשֶׁבַעand in sevenלֹא־יִגַּעnot he will touchבְּךָin youרָע׃evil

    He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.

20. 20

    בְּרָעָבin famineפָּדְךָhe will ransom youמִמָּוֶתfrom deathוּבְמִלְחָמָהand by battleמִידֵיfrom the power ofחָרֶב׃a sword

    In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword.

21. 21

    בְּשׁוֹטfrom the scourge ofלָשׁוֹןtongueתֵּחָבֵאyou will be hiddenוְלֹא־תִירָאand not you shall be afraidמִשֹּׁדfrom destructionכִּיbecauseיָבוֹא׃shall come

    Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.

22. 22

    לְשֹׁדto destructionוּלְכָפָןand to famineתִּשְׂחָקyou will laughוּמֵחַיַּתand from the animals ofהָאָרֶץthe earthאַל־תִּירָא׃be not afraid

    At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.

23. 23

    כִּיforעִם־אַבְנֵיwith the stones ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe fieldבְרִיתֶךָyour covenantוְחַיַּתand the beasts ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe fieldהׇשְׁלְמָה־לָּךְ׃shall be at peace with you

    For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field: and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.

24. 24

    וְיָדַעְתָּand you knowכִּי־שָׁלוֹםbecause peaceאׇהֳלֶךָyour tentוּפָקַדְתָּand you will visitנָוְךָyour habitationוְלֹאand notתֶחֱטָא׃you shall not sin

    And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall be in peace; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and shalt not sin.

25. 25

    וְיָדַעְתָּand you knowכִּי־רַבbecause greatזַרְעֶךָyour seedוְצֶאֱצָאֶיךָand your descendantsכְּעֵשֶׂבlike the vegetation ofהָאָרֶץ׃the earth

    Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.

26. 26

    תָּבוֹאcome shallבְכֶלַחin a full ageאֱלֵי־קָבֶרto a burial siteכַּעֲלוֹתlike as comes inגָּדִישׁa shock of cornבְּעִתּוֹ׃in its time

    Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season.

27. 27

    הִנֵּה־זֹאתbehold thisחֲקַרְנוּהָwe have searched itכֶּן־הִיאso it isשְׁמָעֶנָּהhear itוְאַתָּהand youדַע־לָךְ׃know it for your good

    Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.
