הֵן־תֹּחַלְתּוֹbehold the hope of himנִכְזָבָהis in vainהֲגַםshall not evenאֶל־מַרְאָיוat the sight of himיֻטָל׃one be cast down
Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?

לֹא־אַכְזָרnone is so fierceכִּיthatיְעוּרֶנּוּthat dare stir him upוּמִיand whosoהוּאheלְפָנַיbefore Meיִתְיַצָּב׃is able to stand
None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?

מִיwhoהִקְדִּימַנִיhas given Me beforehandוַאֲשַׁלֵּםthat I should repay himתַּחַתunderכׇּל־הַשָּׁמַיִםall the heavensלִי־הוּא׃is Mine
Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.

(לא)[לוֹ־]אַחֲרִישׁwould I keep silence concerning himבַּדָּיוhis boastingsוּדְבַר־גְּבוּרוֹתor his proud talkוְחִיןor the grace ofעֶרְכּוֹ׃his array
I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.

מִי־גִלָּהwho can uncoverפְּנֵיface ofלְבוּשׁוֹhis garmentבְּכֶפֶלwithin the double ofרִסְנוֹhis bridleמִיwhoיָבוֹא׃shall come
Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double bridle?

דַּלְתֵיthe doors ofפָנָיוhis faceמִיwhoפִתֵּחַcan openסְבִיבוֹתround aboutשִׁנָּיוhis teethאֵימָה׃is terror
Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.

גַּאֲוָהhis prideאֲפִיקֵיrows ofמָגִנִּיםshieldsסָגוּרshut up togetherחוֹתָםas with a sealצָר׃close
His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.

אֶחָדoneבְּאֶחָדin oneיִגַּשׁוּis so nearוְרוּחַthat no airלֹא־יָבֹאcan comeבֵינֵיהֶם׃among them
One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.

אִישׁ־בְּאָחִיהוּone to anotherיְדֻבָּקוּthey are joined togetherיִתְלַכְּדוּthey stick togetherוְלֹאand notיִתְפָּרָדוּ׃they cannot be sundered
They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.

עֲטִישֹׁתָיוhis sneezingsתָּהֶלflash forthאוֹרlightוְעֵינָיוand his eyesכְּעַפְעַפֵּי־שָׁחַר׃like the eyelids of the morning
By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.

מִפִּיוfrom his mouthלַפִּידִיםburning torchesיַהֲלֹכוּgoכִּידוֹדֵיsparks ofאֵשׁfireיִתְמַלָּטוּ׃leap forth
Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.

מִנְּחִירָיוout of his nostrilsיֵצֵאgoesעָשָׁןsmokeכְּדוּדas out of a potנָפוּחַseethingוְאַגְמֹן׃and burning rushes
Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.

נַפְשׁוֹhis breathגֶּחָלִיםcoalsתְּלַהֵטkindlesוְלַהַבand a flameמִפִּיוfrom his mouthיֵצֵא׃goes out
His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.

בְּצַוָּארוֹin its neckיָלִיןabidesעֹזstrengthוּלְפָנָיוand before himתָּדוּץdancesדְּאָבָה׃dismay
In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.

מַפְּלֵיthe flakes ofבְשָׂרוֹhis fleshדָבֵקוּare joined togetherיָצוּקthey are firmעָלָיוupon himבַּל־יִמּוֹט׃not it is moved
The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.

לִבּוֹhis heartיָצוּקis as firmכְּמוֹ־אָבֶןlike a stoneוְיָצוּקyea firmכְּפֶלַחas the millstoneתַּחְתִּית׃nether
His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone.

מִשֵּׂתוֹwhen he raises himself upיָגוּרוּare afraidאֵלִיםthe mightyמִשְּׁבָרִיםby reason of the crashingsיִתְחַטָּאוּ׃they are beside themselves
When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.

מַשִּׂיגֵהוּthough the sword reaches himחֶרֶבthe swordבְּלִיit does notתָקוּםavailחֲנִיתthe spearמַסָּעthe dartוְשִׁרְיָה׃and a javelin
The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.

יַחְשֹׁבhe esteemsלְתֶבֶןto strawבַּרְזֶלironלְעֵץas wood ofרִקָּבוֹןrottennessנְחוּשָׁה׃brass
He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.

לֹא־יַבְרִיחֶנּוּcannot make him fleeבֶן־קָשֶׁתthe arrowלְקַשׁinto chaffנֶהְפְּכוּ־לוֹare turned with himאַבְנֵי־קָלַע׃sling stones
The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble.

כְּקַשׁas stubbleנֶחְשְׁבוּare accountedתוֹתָחclubsוְיִשְׂחַקhe laughsלְרַעַשׁat the rattling ofכִּידוֹן׃javelin
Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.

תַּחְתָּיוunder himחַדּוּדֵיsharpestחָרֶשׂpotsherdsיִרְפַּדhe spreadsחָרוּץa threshing-sledgeעֲלֵי־טִיט׃upon the mire
Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire.

יַרְתִּיחַhe makes to boilכַּסִּירlike the potמְצוּלָהthe deepיָםthe seaיָשִׂיםhe makesכַּמֶּרְקָחָה׃like a seething mixture
He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.

אַחֲרָיוafter himיָאִירhe makes to shineנָתִיבa pathיַחְשֹׁבone would thinkתְּהוֹםthe deepלְשֵׂיבָה׃to be hoary
He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary.

אֵין־עַל־עָפָרupon earth there is notמׇשְׁלוֹhis likeהֶעָשׂוּwho is madeלִבְלִי־חָת׃to be fearless
Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.

אֵת־כׇּל־גָּבֹהַּall high thingsיִרְאֶהhe looks atהוּאhe isמֶלֶךְkingעַל־כׇּל־בְּנֵי־שָׁחַץ׃over all the proud beasts
He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.
