Job 40 אִיּוֹב פרק מ׳

   וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶת־אִיּוֹבet-Iy/YOVJobוַיֹּאמַר׃vay/yo/MARand said

   Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said,

   הֲרֹבha/ROVshall contendעִם־שַׁדַּיim-Shad/DAYwith the Almightyיִסּוֹרyis/SORa faultfinderמוֹכִיחַmo/KHI/achhe who argues withאֱלוֹהַּe/LO/ahGodיַעֲנֶנָּה׃ya/a/NEN/nalet him answer it

   Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.

   וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredאִיּוֹבIy/YOVJobאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDוַיֹּאמַר׃vay/yo/MARand said

   Then Job answered the LORD, and said,

   הֵןhenbeholdקַלֹּתִיkal/lo/TII am smallמָהmawhatאֲשִׁיבֶךָּa/shi/VEK/kashall I answer Youיָדִיya/DImy handשַׂמְתִּיSAM/tiI layלְמוֹ־פִי׃le/MO-fion my mouth

   Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.

5. 5

   אַחַתa/CHATonceדִּבַּרְתִּיdib/BAR/tiI have spokenוְלֹאve/LOand notאֶעֱנֶהe/e/NEI will answerוּשְׁתַּיִםush/TA/yimand twiceוְלֹאve/LOand notאוֹסִיף׃o/SIFI will add

   Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.

   וַיַּעַן־יְהֹוָהvay/YA/an-Adonaithen answered the LORDאֶת־אִיּוֹבet-Iy/YOVJob[מִןminout ofסְעָרָה]se/a/RAthe whirlwindוַיֹּאמַר׃vay/yo/MARand said

   Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

   אֱזׇר־נָאe/ZOR-nagird up nowכְגֶבֶרkhe/GE/verlike a manחֲלָצֶיךָcha/la/TSE/khayour loinsאֶשְׁאָלְךָesh/a/le/KHAI will ask youוְהוֹדִיעֵנִי׃ve/ho/di/E/niand you make Me know

   Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

8. 8

   הַאַףha/AFwill you evenתָּפֵרta/FERannulמִשְׁפָּטִיmish/pa/TIMy justiceתַּרְשִׁיעֵנִיtar/shi/E/niwill you condemn Meלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatתִּצְדָּק׃tits/DAKyou may be righteous

   Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?

9. 9

   וְאִם־זְרוֹעַve/IM-ze/RO/aor have an armכָּאֵלka/ELlike Godלָךְlakhyouוּבְקוֹלu/ve/KOLand with a voiceכָּמֹהוּka/MO/hulike Himתַרְעֵם׃tar/EMcan you thunder

   Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

10. 10

    עֲדֵהa/DEadorn yourselfנָאnanowגָאוֹןga/ONwith majestyוָגֹבַהּva/GO/vaand dignityוְהוֹדve/HODand gloryוְהָדָרve/ha/DARand splendorתִּלְבָּשׁ׃til/BASHclothe yourself

    Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.

11. 11

    הָפֵץha/FETSpour outעֶבְרוֹתev/ROTthe overflowings ofאַפֶּךָap/PE/khayour angerוּרְאֵהu/re/Eand look atכׇל־גֵּאֶהkhol-ge/Eeveryone proudוְהַשְׁפִּילֵהוּ׃ve/hash/pi/LE/huand abase him

    Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him.

12. 12

    רְאֵהre/Elook atכׇל־גֵּאֶהkhol-ge/Eeveryone proudהַכְנִיעֵהוּhakh/ni/E/hubring him lowוַהֲדֹךְva/ha/DOKHand tread downרְשָׁעִיםre/sha/IMthe wickedתַּחְתָּם׃tach/TAMwhere they stand

    Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.

13. 13

    טׇמְנֵםtom/NEMhide themבֶּעָפָרbe/a/FARin the dustיָחַדYA/chadtogetherפְּנֵיהֶםpe/ne/HEMtheir facesחֲבֹשׁcha/VOSHbindבַּטָּמוּן׃bat/ta/MUNin the hidden place

    Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.

14. 14

    וְגַם־אֲנִיve/GAM-a/NIthen I alsoאוֹדֶךָּo/DEK/kawill acknowledge youכִּי־תוֹשִׁעַki-to/SHI/athat can saveלְךָle/KHAyouיְמִינֶךָ׃ye/mi/NE/khayour right hand

    Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.

15. 15

    הִנֵּה־נָאhin/NE-nabehold nowבְהֵמוֹתVe/he/MOTBehemothאֲשֶׁר־עָשִׂיתִיa/SHER-a/SI/tiwhich I madeעִמָּךְim/MAKHwith youחָצִירcha/TSIRgrassכַּבָּקָרkab/ba/KARas the oxיֹאכֵל׃yo/KHELhe eats

    Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.

16. 16

    הִנֵּה־נָאhin/NE-nabehold nowכֹחוֹkho/CHOhis strengthבְמׇתְנָיוve/mot/NAYVin his loinsוְאוֹנוֹve/o/NOand his powerבִּשְׁרִירֵיbish/ri/REin the muscles ofבִטְנוֹ׃vit/NOhis belly

    Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.

17. 17

    יַחְפֹּץyach/POTShe stiffensזְנָבוֹze/na/VOhis tailכְמוֹ־אָרֶזkhe/MO-A/rezlike a cedarגִּידֵיgi/DEthe sinews ofפַחֲדָוfa/cha/DAVhis thighsיְשֹׂרָגוּ׃ye/so/RA/guare knit together

    He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.

18. 18

    עֲצָמָיוa/tsa/MAYVhis bonesאֲפִיקֵיa/fi/KEare tubes ofנְחֻשָׁהne/chu/SHAbronzeגְּרָמָיוge/ra/MAYVhis limbsכִּמְטִילkim/TILlike bars ofבַּרְזֶל׃bar/ZELiron

    His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.

19. 19

    הוּאhuhe isרֵאשִׁיתre/SHITthe first ofדַּרְכֵי־אֵלdar/KHE-elthe ways of Godהָעֹשׂוֹha/o/SOHe who made himיַגֵּשׁyag/GESHcan bring nearחַרְבּוֹ׃char/BOHis sword

    He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.

20. 20

    כִּי־בוּלki-vulfor the produce ofהָרִיםha/RIMthe mountainsיִשְׂאוּ־לוֹyis/U-lobring to himוְכׇל־חַיַּתve/KHOL-chay/YATwhere all the beasts ofהַשָּׂדֶהhas/sa/DEthe fieldיְשַׂחֲקוּ־שָׁם׃ye/sa/cha/KU-shamplay there

    Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.

21. 21

    תַּחַת־צֶאֱלִיםTA/chat-tse/e/LIMunder the lotus treesיִשְׁכָּבyish/KAVhe liesבְּסֵתֶרbe/SE/terin the covert ofקָנֶהka/NEreedsוּבִצָּה׃u/vits/TSAand marsh

    He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.

22. 22

    יְסֻכֻּהוּye/suk/KU/hucover himצֶאֱלִיםtse/e/LIMthe lotus treesצִלְלוֹtsil/LOwith their shadeיְסֻבּוּהוּye/sub/BU/husurround himעַרְבֵי־נָחַל׃ar/VE-NA/chalthe willows of the brook

    The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.

23. 23

    הֵןhenbeholdיַעֲשֹׁקya/a/SHOKragesנָהָרna/HARthe riverלֹאlonotיַחְפּוֹזyach/POZhe is alarmedיִבְטַחyiv/TACHhe is confidentכִּי־יָגִיחַki-ya/GI/achthough bursts forthיַרְדֵּןYar/DENJordanאֶל־פִּיהוּ׃el-PI/huagainst his mouth

    Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.

24. 24

    בְּעֵינָיוbe/e/NAYVby his eyesיִקָּחֶנּוּyik/ka/CHEN/nucan one take himבְּמוֹקְשִׁיםbe/mok/SHIMwith snaresיִנְקׇב־אָף׃yin/KOV-afpierce his nose

    He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.

25. 25

    תִּמְשֹׁךְtim/SHOKHcan you draw outלִוְיָתָןLiv/ya/TANLeviathanבְּחַכָּהbe/chak/KAwith a fish hookוּבְחֶבֶלu/ve/CHE/veland with a cordתַּשְׁקִיעַtash/KI/acan you press downלְשֹׁנוֹ׃le/sho/NOhis tongue

    Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?

26. 26

    הֲתָשִׂיםha/ta/SIMcan you putאַגְמֹןag/MONa ropeבְּאַפּוֹbe/ap/POinto his noseוּבְחוֹחַu/ve/CHO/achor with a hookתִּקֹּבtik/KOVpierceלֶחֱיוֹ׃LE/che/yohis jaw

    Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?

27. 27

    הֲיַרְבֶּהha/yar/BEwill he multiplyאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato youתַּחֲנוּנִיםta/cha/nu/NIMsupplicationsאִם־יְדַבֵּרim-ye/dab/BERor will he speakאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato youרַכּוֹת׃rak/KOTsoft words

    Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?

28. 28

    הֲיִכְרֹתha/yikh/ROTwill he makeבְּרִיתbe/RITa covenantעִמָּךְim/MAKHwith youתִּקָּחֶנּוּtik/ka/CHEN/nuthat you should take himלְעֶבֶדle/E/vedas a servantעוֹלָם׃o/LAMforever

    Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?

29. 29

    הַתְשַׂחֶק־בּוֹhat/sa/CHEK-bowill you play with himכַּצִּפּוֹרkats/tsip/PORas with a birdוְתִקְשְׁרֶנּוּve/tik/she/REN/nuor will you leash himלְנַעֲרוֹתֶיךָ׃le/na/a/ro/TE/khafor your girls

    Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?

30. 30

    יִכְרוּyikh/RUwill bargain overעָלָיוa/LAYVhimחַבָּרִיםchab/ba/RIMtradersיֶחֱצוּהוּye/che/TSU/huwill they divide himבֵּיןbenamongכְּנַעֲנִים׃ke/na/a/NIMthe merchants

    Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?

31. 31

    הַתְמַלֵּאhat/mal/LEcan you fillבְשֻׂכּוֹתve/suk/KOTwith barbed ironsעוֹרוֹo/ROhis skinוּבְצִלְצַלu/ve/tsil/TSALor with spears forדָּגִיםda/GIMfishרֹאשׁוֹ׃ro/SHOhis head

    Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?

32. 32

    שִׂים־עָלָיוsim-a/LAYVlay on himכַּפֶּךָkap/PE/khayour handזְכֹרze/KHORrememberמִלְחָמָהmil/cha/MAthe battleאַל־תּוֹסַף׃al-to/SAFyou will not do it again

    Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
