   הֲיָדַעְתָּknow youעֵתtimeלֶדֶתthe bringing forth ofיַעֲלֵי־סָלַעthe wild goats of the rockחֹלֵלwhen do calveאַיָּלוֹתthe hindsתִּשְׁמֹר׃can you mark

   Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?

   תִּסְפֹּרcan you numberיְרָחִיםmoonsתְּמַלֶּאנָהthat they fulfilוְיָדַעְתָּor know youעֵתtimeלִדְתָּנָה׃when they bring forth

   Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?

   תִּכְרַעְנָהthey bow themselvesיַלְדֵיהֶןtheir young onesתְּפַלַּחְנָהthey bring forthחֶבְלֵיהֶםtheir fruitתְּשַׁלַּחְנָה׃they cast out

   They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.

   יַחְלְמוּwax strongבְנֵיהֶםtheir sonsיִרְבּוּthey grow upבַבָּרin the open fieldיָצְאוּwent forthוְלֹא־שָׁבוּand return not againלָמוֹ׃for them

   Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.

   מִי־שִׁלַּחwho sentפֶּרֶאthe wild assחׇפְשִׁיfreeוּמֹסְרוֹתor the bands ofעָרוֹדthe wild assמִיwhoפִתֵּחַ׃has loosed

   Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?

   אֲשֶׁר־שַׂמְתִּיwhich have I setעֲרָבָהthe wildernessבֵיתוֹwhose houseוּמִשְׁכְּנוֹתָיוhis dwelling-placeמְלֵחָה׃the salt land

   Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.

7. 7

   יִשְׂחַקhe scornsלַהֲמוֹןto the tumult ofקִרְיָהa townתְּשֻׁאוֹתthe shoutings ofנֹגֵשׂthe driverלֹאnotיִשְׁמָע׃hears he

   He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.

8. 8

   יְתוּרthe range ofהָרִיםmountainsמִרְעֵהוּis his pastureוְאַחַרand thenכׇּל־יָרוֹקevery green thingיִדְרוֹשׁ׃he searches after

   The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.

9. 9

   הֲיֹאבֶהwill be willingרֵּיםthe wild-oxעׇבְדֶךָto serve youאִם־יָלִיןor will he abideעַל־אֲבוּסֶךָ׃by your crib

   Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?

10. 10

    הֲתִקְשׇׁר־רֵיםcan you bind the wild-oxבְּתֶלֶםin a furrowעֲבֹתוֹwith his bandאִם־יְשַׂדֵּדor will he harrowעֲמָקִיםthe valleysאַחֲרֶיךָ׃after you

    Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?

11. 11

    הֲתִבְטַח־בּוֹwill you trust himכִּי־רַבbecause greatכֹּחוֹhis strengthוְתַעֲזֹבor will you leaveאֵלָיוto himיְגִיעֶךָ׃your labor

    Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?

12. 12

    הֲתַאֲמִיןwill you relyבּוֹin itכִּי־[יָשִׁיב]that he will bring home(ישוב)זַרְעֶךָyour seedוְגׇרְנְךָand the corn of your threshing-floorיֶאֱסֹף׃and gather

    Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?

13. 13

    כְּנַף־רְנָנִיםthe wing of the ostrichנֶעֱלָסָהbeats joyouslyאִם־אֶבְרָהbut are her pinionsחֲסִידָהthe kindly stork'sוְנֹצָה׃and feathers

    Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?

14. 14

    כִּי־תַעֲזֹבfor she leavesלָאָרֶץto the groundבֵּצֶיהָits eggsוְעַל־עָפָרand in dustתְּחַמֵּם׃warms them

    Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,

15. 15

    וַתִּשְׁכַּחand forgetsכִּי־רֶגֶלbecause a footתְּזוּרֶהָmay crush themוְחַיַּתor the wild beastהַשָּׂדֶהthe fieldתְדוּשֶׁהָ׃may trample them

    And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.

16. 16

    הִקְשִׁיחַshe is hardened againstבָּנֶיהָher sonsלְּלֹא־לָהּas if they were not hersלְרִיקin vainיְגִיעָהּher laborבְּלִי־פָחַד׃without fear

    She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;

17. 17

    כִּי־הִשָּׁהּbecause has deprived herאֱלוֹהַּGodחׇכְמָהwisdomוְלֹא־חָלַקneither has He impartedלָהּto herבַּבִּינָה׃understanding

    Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.

18. 18

    כָּעֵתwhen the time comesבַּמָּרוֹםon the heightתַּמְרִיאshe raises her wingsתִּשְׂחַקand scornsלַסּוּסto the horseוּלְרֹכְבוֹ׃and to its rider

    What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.

19. 19

    הֲתִתֵּןhave you givenלַסּוּסto the horseגְּבוּרָהhis strengthהֲתַלְבִּישׁhave you clothedצַוָּארוֹhis neckרַעְמָה׃with fierceness

    Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?

20. 20

    הֲתַרְעִישֶׁנּוּhave you made him to leapכָּאַרְבֶּהlike locustsהוֹדthe glory ofנַחְרוֹhis snortingאֵימָה׃is terrible

    Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.

21. 21

    יַחְפְּרוּhe pawsבָעֵמֶקin the valleyוְיָשִׂישׂand rejoicesבְּכֹחַwith powerיֵצֵאhe go forthלִקְרַאת־נָשֶׁק׃to meet the clash of arms

    He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.

22. 22

    יִשְׂחַקhe mocksלְפַחַדto fearוְלֹאand notיֵחָתis not affrightedוְלֹא־יָשׁוּבneither turns he backמִפְּנֵי־חָרֶב׃because of a sword

    He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.

23. 23

    עָלָיוupon himתִּרְנֶהrattlesאַשְׁפָּהa quiverלַהַבthe glitteringחֲנִיתspearוְכִידוֹן׃and javelin

    The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.

24. 24

    בְּרַעַשׁwith stormוְרֹגֶזand rageיְגַמֶּא־אָרֶץhe swallows the groundוְלֹא־יַאֲמִיןand not shall believeכִּי־קוֹלthat it is the voice ofשׁוֹפָר׃the horn

    He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.

25. 25

    בְּדֵיas oft as he hearsשֹׁפָרthe hornיֹאמַרhe saysהֶאָחha haוּמֵרָחוֹקand from a distanceיָרִיחַhe smellsמִלְחָמָהwarרַעַםthe thunder ofשָׂרִיםprincesוּתְרוּעָה׃and the shouting

    He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

26. 26

    הֲמִבִּינָתְךָby your wisdomיַאֲבֶר־נֵץdoes the hawk soarיִפְרֹשׂand stretchכְּנָפָוher wingsלְתֵימָן׃to the south

    Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?

27. 27

    אִם־עַל־פִּיךָat your commandיַגְבִּיהַּdoes mount upנָשֶׁרthe vultureוְכִיand thatיָרִיםand make on highקִנּוֹ׃her nest

    Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?

28. 28

    סֶלַעthe rockיִשְׁכֹּןshe dwellsוְיִתְלֹנָןand abidesעַלuponשֶׁן־סֶלַעthe crag of the rockוּמְצוּדָה׃and a stronghold

    She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.

29. 29

    מִשָּׁםfrom thereחָפַר־אֹכֶלshe spies out the preyלְמֵרָחוֹקafar offעֵינָיוher eyesיַבִּיטוּ׃behold it

    From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.

30. 30

    וְאֶפְרֹחָוand her young onesיְעַלְעוּ־דָםsuck up bloodוּבַאֲשֶׁרand inasmuch asחֲלָלִיםthose slainשָׁםthereהוּא׃is she

    Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.
