   וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredאֱלִיהוּE/li/HUElihuוַיֹּאמַר׃vay/yo/MARand said

   Elihu spake moreover, and said,

   הֲזֹאתha/ZOTthisחָשַׁבְתָּcha/SHAV/tado you thinkלְמִשְׁפָּטle/mish/PATto be justאָמַרְתָּa/MAR/tayou sayצִדְקִיtsid/KImy righteousnessמֵאֵל׃me/ELis more than God's

   Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God's?

3. 3

   כִּי־תֹאמַרki-to/MARthat you sayמַה־יִּסְכׇּן־לָךְma-yis/KON-lakhwhat advantage is it to youמָה־אֹעִילma-o/ILwhat do I gainמֵחַטָּאתִי׃me/chat/ta/TImore than if I had sinned

   For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

   אֲנִיa/NIIאֲשִׁיבְךָa/shi/ve/KHAwill answer youמִלִּיןmil/LINwith wordsוְאֶת־רֵעֶיךָve/ET-re/E/khaand your friendsעִמָּךְ׃im/MAKHwith you

   I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.

   הַבֵּטhab/BETlook atשָׁמַיִםsha/MA/yimthe heavensוּרְאֵהu/re/Eand seeוְשׁוּרve/SHURand regardשְׁחָקִיםshe/cha/KIMthe cloudsגָּבְהוּga/ve/HUthat are higherמִמֶּךָּ׃mim/MEK/kathan you

   Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than thou.

   אִם־חָטָאתָim-cha/TA/taif you have sinnedמַה־תִּפְעׇל־בּוֹma-tif/OL-bowhat do you do against Himוְרַבּוּve/rab/BUand if are multipliedפְשָׁעֶיךָfe/sha/E/khayour transgressionsמַה־תַּעֲשֶׂה־לּוֹ׃ma-ta/a/SE-lowhat do you do to Him

   If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

   אִם־צָדַקְתָּim-tsa/DAK/taif you are righteousמַה־תִּתֶּן־לוֹma-tit/TEN-lowhat do you give Himאוֹoorמַה־מִּיָּדְךָma-miy/ya/de/KHAwhat from your handיִקָּח׃yik/KACHdoes He receive

   If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?

   לְאִישׁ־כָּמוֹךָle/ISH-ka/MO/khaa man like yourselfרִשְׁעֶךָrish/E/khayour wickedness affectsוּלְבֶן־אָדָםu/le/VEN-a/DAMand a son of manצִדְקָתֶךָ׃tsid/ka/TE/khayour righteousness

   Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.

   מֵרֹבme/ROVfrom the multitude ofעֲשׁוּקִיםa/shu/KIMoppressionsיַזְעִיקוּyaz/I/kuthey cry outיְשַׁוְּעוּye/shav/ve/Uthey call for helpמִזְּרוֹעַmiz/ze/RO/abecause of the arm ofרַבִּים׃rab/BIMthe mighty

   By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.

    וְלֹא־אָמַרve/LO-a/MARbut none saysאַיֵּהay/YEwhere isאֱלוֹהַּe/LO/ahGodעֹשָׂיO/SAYmy Makerנֹתֵןno/TENwho givesזְמִרוֹתze/mi/ROTsongsבַּלָּיְלָה׃bal/LAY/lain the night

    But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;

    מַלְּפֵנוּmal/le/fe/NUwho teaches usמִבַּהֲמוֹתmib/ba/ha/MOTmore than the beasts ofאָרֶץA/retsthe earthוּמֵעוֹףu/me/OFand than the birds ofהַשָּׁמַיִםhash/sha/MA/yimthe heavensיְחַכְּמֵנוּ׃ye/chak/ke/ME/numakes us wise

    Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

12. 12

    שָׁםshamthereיִצְעֲקוּyits/a/KUthey cry outוְלֹאve/LOand notיַעֲנֶהya/a/NEHe answersמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofגְּאוֹןge/ONthe pride ofרָעִים׃ra/IMevil men

    There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.

13. 13

    אַךְ־שָׁוְאakh-shavsurely emptinessלֹא־יִשְׁמַעlo-yish/MAdoes not hearאֵלelGodוְשַׁדַּיve/Shad/DAYand the Almightyלֹאlonotיְשׁוּרֶנָּה׃ye/shu/REN/naregard it

    Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

14. 14

    אַףafhow muchכִּי־תֹאמַרki-to/MARless when you sayלֹאlonotתְשׁוּרֶנּוּte/shu/REN/nuyou see Himדִּיןdinthe case isלְפָנָיוle/fa/NAYVbefore Himוּתְחוֹלֵלu/te/CHO/leland you waitלוֹ׃lofor Him

    Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, yet judgment is before him; therefore trust thou in him.

15. 15

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowכִּי־אַיִןki-A/yinbecause notפָּקַדpa/KADhas punishedאַפּוֹap/POHis angerוְלֹא־יָדַעve/LO-ya/DAand He does not knowבַּפַּשׁbap/PASHthe follyמְאֹד׃me/ODgreatly

    But now, because it is not so, he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth it not in great extremity:

16. 16

    וְאִיּוֹבve/Iy/YOVand JobהֶבֶלHE/velin vainיִפְצֶה־פִּיהוּyif/TSE-PI/huopens his mouthבִּבְלִי־דַעַתbiv/LI-DA/atwithout knowledgeמִלִּיןmil/LINwordsיַכְבִּר׃yakh/BIRhe multiplies

    Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.
