   וַיַּעַןand he answeredאֱלִיהוּElihuוַיֹּאמַר׃and said

   Elihu spake moreover, and said,

   הֲזֹאתthink you thisחָשַׁבְתָּyou thoughtלְמִשְׁפָּטto be rightאָמַרְתָּhave saidצִדְקִיmy righteousnessמֵאֵל׃is more than God's

   Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God's?

3. 3

   כִּי־תֹאמַרthat you sayמַה־יִּסְכׇּן־לָךְwhat advantage will it be unto youמָה־אֹעִילwhat profit shall I haveמֵחַטָּאתִי׃if I be cleansed from my sin

   For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

   אֲנִיIאֲשִׁיבְךָI will answer youמִלִּיןwordsוְאֶת־רֵעֶיךָand your companionsעִמָּךְ׃with you

   I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.

   הַבֵּטlookשָׁמַיִםthe heavensוּרְאֵהand beholdוְשׁוּרand beholdשְׁחָקִיםcloudsגָּבְהוּwhich are higherמִמֶּךָּ׃from you

   Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than thou.

   אִם־חָטָאתָif sinnedמַה־תִּפְעׇל־בּוֹwhat do you against himוְרַבּוּor if be multipliedפְשָׁעֶיךָyour transgressionsמַה־תַּעֲשֶׂה־לּוֹ׃what do you unto him

   If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

   אִם־צָדַקְתָּif you are in the rightמַה־תִּתֶּן־לוֹwhat give you himאוֹorמַה־מִּיָּדְךָor what of your handיִקָּח׃receives he

   If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?

8. 8

   לְאִישׁ־כָּמוֹךָfor a man like youרִשְׁעֶךָyour wickedness may hurtוּלְבֶן־אָדָםand to the son of manצִדְקָתֶךָ׃your righteousness

   Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.

   מֵרֹבfrom the multitude ofעֲשׁוּקִיםoppressionיַזְעִיקוּthey make to cryיְשַׁוְּעוּthey cry for helpמִזְּרוֹעַby reason of the arm ofרַבִּים׃many

   By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.

    וְלֹא־אָמַרand not saidאַיֵּהwhere isאֱלוֹהַּGodעֹשָׂיmy makerנֹתֵןwho givesזְמִרוֹתthe songs ofבַּלָּיְלָה׃by the night

    But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;

    מַלְּפֵנוּwho teaches usמִבַּהֲמוֹתmore than the beasts ofאָרֶץthe earthוּמֵעוֹףand from the birds ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe heavensיְחַכְּמֵנוּ׃he makes wise us

    Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

12. 12

    שָׁםthereיִצְעֲקוּthey cryוְלֹאand notיַעֲנֶהnone gives answerמִפְּנֵיbecause ofגְּאוֹןthe pride ofרָעִים׃evil

    There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.

13. 13

    אַךְ־שָׁוְאsurely vanityלֹא־יִשְׁמַעwill not hearאֵלGodוְשַׁדַּיand the Almightyלֹאnotיְשׁוּרֶנָּה׃will regard it

    Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

14. 14

    אַףmoreoverכִּי־תֹאמַרthat you sayלֹאnotתְשׁוּרֶנּוּyou shall not see himדִּיןcauseלְפָנָיוbefore himוּתְחוֹלֵלtherefore trust youלוֹ׃to him

    Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, yet judgment is before him; therefore trust thou in him.

15. 15

    וְעַתָּהand nowכִּי־אַיִןbecause it is not soפָּקַדhe has visitedאַפּוֹhis angerוְלֹא־יָדַעand not he knewבַּפַּשׁin great extremityמְאֹד׃exceedingly

    But now, because it is not so, he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth it not in great extremity:

16. 16

    וְאִיּוֹבand Jobהֶבֶלin vainיִפְצֶה־פִּיהוּhe opens his mouthבִּבְלִי־דַעַתwith no knowledgeמִלִּיןwordsיַכְבִּר׃he multiplies

    Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.
