1. 1

   וַיַּעַןand he answeredאֱלִיהוּאElihuוַיֹּאמַר׃and said

   Furthermore Elihu answered and said,

   שִׁמְעוּhearחֲכָמִיםwiseמִלָּיmy wordsוְיֹדְעִיםand those who knowהַאֲזִינוּgive earלִי׃to me

   Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

3. 3

   כִּי־אֹזֶןbecause an earמִלִּיןwordsתִּבְחָןdoes it testוְחֵךְand a palateיִטְעַםtastesלֶאֱכֹל׃meat

   For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.

4. 4

   מִשְׁפָּטjudgmentנִבְחֲרָה־לָּנוּlet us choose to usנֵדְעָהlet us knowבֵינֵינוּbetween usמַה־טּוֹב׃what is good

   Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good.

5. 5

   כִּי־אָמַרthat saidאִיּוֹבJobצָדַקְתִּיI am righteousוְאֵלand Godהֵסִירhe removedמִשְׁפָּטִי׃my judgment

   For Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.

6. 6

   עַל־מִשְׁפָּטִיupon my judgmentאֲכַזֵּבshould I lieאָנוּשׁis incurableחִצִּיmy woundבְלִי־פָשַׁע׃without transgression

   Should I lie against my right? my wound is incurable without transgression.

7. 7

   מִי־גֶבֶרwho a manכְּאִיּוֹבlike Jobיִשְׁתֶּה־לַּעַגwho drinks up scorningכַּמָּיִם׃like the water

   What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?

8. 8

   וְאָרַחwhich goesלְחֶבְרָהin companyעִם־פֹּעֲלֵיwith workers ofאָוֶןiniquityוְלָלֶכֶתand to goעִם־אַנְשֵׁי־רֶשַׁע׃with the men of wickedness

   Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.

9. 9

   כִּי־אָמַרthat saidלֹאnotיִסְכׇּן־גָּבֶרshall a man profitבִּרְצֹתוֹthat he should delight himselfעִם־אֱלֹהִים׃with God

   For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.

10. 10

    לָכֵןthereforeאַנְשֵׁיthe men ofלֵבָבunderstandingשִׁמְעוּ־לִיhear to meחָלִלָהfar be itלָאֵלto the Godמֵרֶשַׁעthat he should do wickednessוְשַׁדַּיand the Almightyמֵעָוֶל׃from iniquity

    Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

11. 11

    כִּיforפֹעַלthe work ofאָדָםmanיְשַׁלֶּם־לוֹhe repays himוּכְאֹרַחand according to his waysאִישׁa manיַמְצִאֶנּוּ׃cause to find

    For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.

12. 12

    אַף־אׇמְנָםyea verilyאֵלGodלֹא־יַרְשִׁיעַwill not do wickedlyוְשַׁדַּיand the Almightyלֹא־יְעַוֵּתneither will pervertמִשְׁפָּט׃judgment

    Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.

13. 13

    מִי־פָקַדwho has given a chargeעָלָיוupon himאָרְצָהover the earthוּמִיand whosoשָׂםhas disposedתֵּבֵלthe worldכֻּלָּהּ׃all of it

    Who hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?

14. 14

    אִם־יָשִׂיםif he setאֵלָיוto himלִבּוֹhis heartרוּחוֹhis spiritוְנִשְׁמָתוֹand his breathאֵלָיוto himיֶאֱסֹף׃gather unto himself

    If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;

15. 15

    יִגְוַעshall perishכׇּל־בָּשָׂרall the fleshיָחַדtogetherוְאָדָםand manעַל־עָפָרupon the earthיָשׁוּב׃shall turn again

    All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.

16. 16

    וְאִם־בִּינָהif now you have understandingשִׁמְעָה־זֹּאתhear thisהַאֲזִינָהgive earלְקוֹלthe voice ofמִלָּי׃my words

    If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.

17. 17

    הַאַףshall even heשׂוֹנֵאone who hatesמִשְׁפָּטjudgmentיַחֲבוֹשׁgovernוְאִם־צַדִּיקand if righteousכַּבִּירhim that is most justתַּרְשִׁיעַ׃will you condemn

    Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?

18. 18

    הַאֲמֹרis it fit to sayלְמֶלֶךְkingבְּלִיָּעַלyou are worthlessרָשָׁעwickedאֶל־נְדִיבִים׃to the nobles

    Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?

19. 19

    אֲשֶׁרwhichלֹא־נָשָׂאnot boreפְּנֵיface ofשָׂרִיםprincesוְלֹאand notנִכַּר־שׁוֹעַnor regards the richלִפְנֵי־דָלmore than the poorכִּי־מַעֲשֵׂהbecause work ofיָדָיוhis handsכֻּלָּם׃all of them

    How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.

20. 20

    רֶגַעa momentיָמֻתוּthey will dieוַחֲצוֹתand the middle ofלָיְלָהnightיְגֹעֲשׁוּshall be troubledעָםa peopleוְיַעֲבֹרוּso they may pass awayוְיָסִירוּand shall be removedאַבִּירthe mightyלֹאnotבְיָד׃without hand

    In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.

21. 21

    כִּי־עֵינָיוfor his eyesעַל־דַּרְכֵי־אִישׁupon the ways of man ofוְכׇל־צְעָדָיוand all his stepsיִרְאֶה׃shall see

    For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.

22. 22

    אֵין־חֹשֶׁךְthere is no darknessוְאֵיןand there is noצַלְמָוֶתthe shadow of deathלְהִסָּתֶרto hide themselvesשָׁםthereפֹּעֲלֵיworkers ofאָוֶן׃iniquity

    There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

23. 23

    כִּיforלֹאnotעַל־אִישׁupon a manיָשִׂיםwill he layעוֹדany moreלַהֲלֹךְto goאֶל־אֵלunto Godבַּמִּשְׁפָּט׃in the judgment

    For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.

24. 24

    יָרֹעַhe shall break in piecesכַּבִּירִיםthe mighty onesלֹא־חֵקֶרwithout numberוַיַּעֲמֵדand setאֲחֵרִיםothersתַּחְתָּם׃in their stead

    He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.

25. 25

    לָכֵןthereforeיַכִּירhe will acknowledgeמַעְבָּדֵיהֶםtheir worksוְהָפַךְand he overturns themלַיְלָהnightוְיִדַּכָּאוּ׃so they may be crushed

    Therefore he knoweth their works, and he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

26. 26

    תַּחַת־רְשָׁעִיםas wicked menסְפָקָםhe strikes themבִּמְקוֹםat the place ofרֹאִים׃of others

    He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;

27. 27

    אֲשֶׁרwhichעַל־כֵּןthereforeסָרוּthey turned backמֵאַחֲרָיוfrom behind himוְכׇל־דְּרָכָיוand all his waysלֹאnotהִשְׂכִּילוּ׃would not consider

    Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:

28. 28

    לְהָבִיאso that they cause to comeעָלָיוupon himצַעֲקַת־דָּלthe cry of the poorוְצַעֲקַתand the outcry ofעֲנִיִּיםthe poorיִשְׁמָע׃he hears

    So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.

29. 29

    וְהוּאand heיַשְׁקִטgives quietnessוּמִיand whosoיַרְשִׁעַcan make troubleוְיַסְתֵּרand he may hideפָּנִיםfaceוּמִיand whosoיְשׁוּרֶנּוּcan behold himוְעַל־גּוֹיand upon nationוְעַל־אָדָםand upon manיָחַד׃together

    When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:

30. 30

    מִמְּלֹךְthat reign notאָדָםmanחָנֵףa hypocriteמִמֹּקְשֵׁיlest be ensnaredעָם׃a people

    That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.

31. 31

    כִּי־אֶל־אֵלbecause to Godהֶאָמַרit is meet to be saidנָשָׂאתִיI have borne chastisementלֹאnotאֶחְבֹּל׃I will not offend

    Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:

32. 32

    בִּלְעֲדֵיbesides whatאֶחֱזֶהI seeאַתָּהyouהֹרֵנִיteach meאִם־עָוֶלif iniquityפָּעַלְתִּיI have doneלֹאnotאֹסִיף׃I will do no more

    That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.

33. 33

    הֲמֵעִמְּךָshould it be according to your mindיְשַׁלְּמֶנָּהhe will repay itכִּי־מָאַסְתָּwhether you refuseכִּי־אַתָּהthat youתִבְחַרwhether you chooseוְלֹא־אָנִיand not Iוּמַה־יָּדַעְתָּyea and what do you knowדַבֵּר׃speak

    Should it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.

34. 34

    אַנְשֵׁיthe men ofלֵבָבunderstandingיֹאמְרוּlet tell meלִיto meוְגֶבֶרand a manחָכָםwiseשֹׁמֵעַwho hearsלִי׃to me

    Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.

35. 35

    אִיּוֹבJobלֹא־בְדַעַתwithout knowledgeיְדַבֵּרspeaksוּדְבָרָיוand his wordsלֹאnotבְהַשְׂכֵּיל׃without wisdom

    Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.

36. 36

    אָבִיmy desire isיִבָּחֵןhe will be testedאִיּוֹבJobעַד־נֶצַחunto the endעַל־תְּשֻׁבֹתbecause of his answersבְּאַנְשֵׁי־אָוֶן׃for wicked men

    My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.

37. 37

    כִּי־יֹסִיףbecause he will increaseעַל־חַטָּאתוֹupon his sinפֶשַׁעtransgressionבֵּינֵינוּamong usיִשְׂפּוֹקhe claps his handsוְיֶרֶבand multipliesאֲמָרָיוhis wordsלָאֵל׃to the God

    For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.
