1. 1

   וְאוּלָםneverthelessשְׁמַע־נָאhearken I prayאִיּוֹבJobמִלָּיmy wordsוְכׇל־דְּבָרַיand all my wordsהַאֲזִינָה׃give ear

   Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.

2. 2

   הִנֵּה־נָאbehold I prayפָּתַחְתִּיI openפִיmy mouthדִּבְּרָהhas spokenלְשׁוֹנִיmy tongueבְחִכִּי׃in my mouth

   Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.

3. 3

   יֹשֶׁר־לִבִּיthe uprightness of my heartאֲמָרָיmy wordsוְדַעַתand knowledgeשְׂפָתַיmy lipsבָּרוּרclearlyמִלֵּלוּ׃shall utter

   My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.

   רוּחַ־אֵלthe Spirit of Godעָשָׂתְנִיhas made meוְנִשְׁמַתand the breath ofשַׁדַּיAlmightyתְּחַיֵּנִי׃has given me life

   The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

5. 5

   אִם־תּוּכַלif you canהֲשִׁיבֵנִיrespond to meעֶרְכָהֿset in orderלְפָנַיbefore meהִתְיַצָּבָה׃take your stand

   If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.

6. 6

   הֵן־אֲנִיyea Iכְפִיךָaccording to your wishלָאֵלin God's steadמֵחֹמֶרfrom clayקֹרַצְתִּיam formedגַם־אָנִי׃also I

   Behold, I am according to thy wish in God's stead: I also am formed out of the clay.

7. 7

   הִנֵּהbeholdאֵמָתִיdread of meלֹאnotתְבַעֲתֶךָּit will terrify youוְאַכְפִּיneither my handעָלֶיךָupon youלֹא־יִכְבָּד׃not it will be heavy

   Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.

8. 8

   אַךְbutאָמַרְתָּhave saidבְאׇזְנָיin my earsוְקוֹלand the voice ofמִלִּיןwordsאֶשְׁמָע׃I heard

   Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,

9. 9

   זַךְare pureאֲנִיIבְּלִי־פָשַׁעwithout transgressionחַףI am innocentאָנֹכִיIוְלֹאand notעָוֺןiniquityלִי׃to me

   I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.

10. 10

    הֵןbeholdתְּנוּאוֹתoccasionsעָלַיupon meיִמְצָאhe findsיַחְשְׁבֵנִיhe counts meלְאוֹיֵבfor his enemyלוֹ׃to him

    Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,

11. 11

    יָשֵׂםhe putsבַּסַּדin the stocksרַגְלָיmy feetיִשְׁמֹרhe marksכׇּל־אׇרְחֹתָי׃all my paths

    He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.

12. 12

    הֶן־זֹאתbehold thisלֹא־צָדַקְתָּyou are not justאֶעֱנֶךָּI will answer youכִּי־יִרְבֶּהthat is greaterאֱלוֹהַּGodמֵאֱנוֹשׁ׃than man

    Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.

13. 13

    מַדּוּעַwhyאֵלָיוto himרִיבוֹתָdo you striveכִּיthatכׇל־דְּבָרָיוof any of his mattersלֹאnotיַעֲנֶה׃he gives not account

    Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.

14. 14

    כִּי־בְאַחַתfor onceיְדַבֶּר־אֵלGod speaksוּבִשְׁתַּיִםyea twiceלֹאnotיְשׁוּרֶנָּה׃yet man perceives it not

    For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.

15. 15

    בַּחֲלוֹםin a dreamחֶזְיוֹןin a vision ofלַיְלָהnightבִּנְפֹלin fellתַּרְדֵּמָהdeep sleepעַל־אֲנָשִׁיםupon menבִּתְנוּמוֹתin slumberעֲלֵיonמִשְׁכָּב׃beds

    In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;

16. 16

    אָזthenיִגְלֶהhe opensאֹזֶןan earאֲנָשִׁיםmenוּבְמֹסָרָםand their instructionיַחְתֹּם׃and seals

    Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,

17. 17

    לְהָסִירthat he may withdrawאָדָםmanמַעֲשֶׂהfrom his purposeוְגֵוָהand prideמִגֶּבֶרfrom a manיְכַסֶּה׃he hides

    That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.

18. 18

    יַחְשֹׂךְhe keeps backנַפְשׁוֹhis soulמִנִּי־שָׁחַתfrom the pitוְחַיָּתוֹand his lifeמֵעֲבֹרfrom perishingבַּשָּׁלַח׃by the sword

    He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.

19. 19

    וְהוּכַחand he is chastenedבְּמַכְאוֹבwith painעַל־מִשְׁכָּבוֹupon his bed(וריב)[וְרוֹב]and the multitude ofעֲצָמָיוhis bonesאֵתָן׃with strong pain

    He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:

20. 20

    וְזִהֲמַתּוּso that abhorsחַיָּתוֹhis lifeלָחֶםbreadוְנַפְשׁוֹand his soulמַאֲכַלdaintyתַּאֲוָה׃meat

    So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.

21. 21

    יִכֶלis consumed awayבְּשָׂרוֹhis fleshמֵרֹאִיthat it cannot be seen[וְשֻׁפּוּ]and stick outעַצְמֹתָיוhis bonesלֹאnotרֻאּוּ׃that were not seen

    His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.

22. 22

    וַתִּקְרַבyea draws nearלַשַּׁחַתunto the graveנַפְשׁוֹhis soulוְחַיָּתוֹand his lifeלַמְמִתִים׃to the destroyers

    Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.

23. 23

    אִם־יֵשׁif there isעָלָיוupon himמַלְאָךְa messengerמֵלִיץan interpreterאֶחָדoneמִנִּי־אָלֶףamong a thousandלְהַגִּידto declareלְאָדָםto manיׇשְׁרוֹ׃his uprightness

    If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:

24. 24

    וַיְחֻנֶּנּוּthen he is gracious unto himוַיֹּאמֶרand saidפְּדָעֵהוּdeliver himמֵרֶדֶתfrom going downשָׁחַתto the pitמָצָאתִיI foundכֹפֶר׃a ransom

    Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.

25. 25

    רֻטְפַשׁshall be fresherבְּשָׂרוֹhis fleshמִנֹּעַרthan a child'sיָשׁוּבhe shall returnלִימֵיto the days ofעֲלוּמָיו׃his youth

    His flesh shall be fresher than a child's: he shall return to the days of his youth:

26. 26

    יֶעְתַּרhe shall prayאֶל־אֱלוֹהַּto Godוַיִּרְצֵהוּand he will be favorable unto himוַיַּרְאand sawפָּנָיוhis faceבִּתְרוּעָהwith joyוַיָּשֶׁבfor he will renderלֶאֱנוֹשׁunto manצִדְקָתוֹ׃his righteousness

    He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.

27. 27

    יָשֹׁרhe looksעַל־אֲנָשִׁיםupon menוַיֹּאמֶרand saidחָטָאתִיhave I sinnedוְיָשָׁרand that which was rightהֶעֱוֵיתִיand pervertedוְלֹא־שָׁוָהand it profited notלִי׃to me

    He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;

28. 28

    פָּדָהredeemed(נפשי)[נַפְשׁוֹ]his soulמֵעֲבֹרfrom passing ofבַּשָּׁחַתinto the pit[וְחַיָּתוֹ]and his lifeבָּאוֹרon the lightתִּרְאֶה׃shall see

    He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

29. 29

    הֶן־כׇּל־אֵלֶּהbehold all theseיִפְעַל־אֵלworks Godפַּעֲמַיִםoftentimesשָׁלוֹשׁthreeעִם־גָּבֶר׃with a man

    Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,

30. 30

    לְהָשִׁיבto bring backנַפְשׁוֹhis soulמִנִּי־שָׁחַתfrom the pitלֵאוֹרto be enlightenedבְּאוֹרin the light ofהַחַיִּים׃the living

    To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.

31. 31

    הַקְשֵׁבhearkenאִיּוֹבJobשְׁמַע־לִיhearken to meהַחֲרֵשׁhold your peaceוְאָנֹכִיyet Iאֲדַבֵּר׃I speak

    Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.

32. 32

    אִם־יֵשׁ־מִלִּיןif you have any thing to sayהֲשִׁיבֵנִיrespond to meדַּבֵּרspeakכִּי־חָפַצְתִּיbecause I desireצַדְּקֶךָּ׃to justify you

    If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.

33. 33

    אִם־אַיִןif notאַתָּהyouשְׁמַע־לִיhearken to meהַחֲרֵשׁhold your peaceוַאֲאַלֶּפְךָand I will teach youחׇכְמָה׃wisdom

    If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.
