   בְּרִיתbe/RITa covenantכָּרַתִּיka/RAT/tiI madeלְעֵינָיle/e/NAYwith my eyesוּמָהu/MAhow thenאֶתְבּוֹנֵןet/bo/NENcould I lookעַל־בְּתוּלָה׃al-be/tu/LAon a virgin

   I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

2. 2

   וּמֶהu/MEand what isחֵלֶקCHE/lekthe portion ofאֱלוֹהַּe/LO/ahGodמִמָּעַלmim/MA/alfrom aboveוְנַחֲלַתve/na/cha/LATand the inheritance ofשַׁדַּיShad/DAYthe Almightyמִמְּרֹמִים׃mim/me/ro/MIMfrom on high

   For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

   הֲלֹא־אֵידha/LO-edis it not calamityלְעַוָּלle/av/VALfor the unrighteousוְנֵכֶרve/NE/kherand disasterלְפֹעֲלֵיle/FO/a/leto the workers ofאָוֶן׃A/veniniquity

   Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

   הֲלֹא־הוּאha/LO-hudoes not Heיִרְאֶהyir/Eseeדְרָכָיde/ra/KHAYmy waysוְכׇל־צְעָדַיve/KHOL-tse/a/DAYand all my stepsיִסְפּוֹר׃yis/PORnumber

   Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

   אִם־הָלַכְתִּיim-ha/LAKH/tiif I have walkedעִם־שָׁוְאim-shavwith falsehoodוַתַּחַשׁvat/TA/chashand has hurriedעַל־מִרְמָהal-mir/MAto deceitרַגְלִי׃rag/LImy foot

   If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;

   יִשְׁקְלֵנִיyish/ke/LE/nilet Him weigh meבְמֹאזְנֵי־צֶדֶקve/mo/ze/NE-TSE/dekin a just balanceוְיֵדַעve/ye/DAand let knowאֱלוֹהַּe/LO/ahGodתֻּמָּתִי׃tum/ma/TImy integrity

   Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity.

   אִם־תִּטֶּהim-tit/TEif has turnedאַשֻּׁרִיash/shu/RImy stepמִנִּיmin/NIfromהַדָּרֶךְhad/DA/rekhthe wayוְאַחַרve/a/CHARand afterעֵינַיe/NAYmy eyesהָלַךְha/LAKHhas goneלִבִּיlib/BImy heartוּבְכַפַּיu/ve/khap/PAYand to my handsדָּבַקda/VAKhas cleavedמאוּם׃mumany spot

   If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;

   אֶזְרְעָהez/re/Alet me sowוְאַחֵרve/a/CHERand anotherיֹאכֵלyo/KHELeatוְצֶאֱצָאַיve/tse/e/tsa/AYand my produceיְשֹׁרָשׁוּ׃ye/sho/RA/shulet be uprooted

   Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.

9. 9

   אִם־נִפְתָּהim-nif/TAif has been enticedלִבִּיlib/BImy heartעַל־אִשָּׁהal-ish/SHAby a womanוְעַל־פֶּתַחve/AL-PE/tachand at the door ofרֵעִיre/Imy neighborאָרָבְתִּי׃a/RAV/tiI have lain in wait

   If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour's door;

    תִּטְחַןtit/CHANlet her grindלְאַחֵרle/a/CHERfor anotherאִשְׁתִּיish/TImy wifeוְעָלֶיהָve/a/LE/haand over herיִכְרְעוּןyikh/re/UNlet bow downאֲחֵרִין׃a/che/RINothers

    Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.

11. 11

    כִּי־[הִיא]ki-hifor that would be(הוא)havזִמָּהzim/MAlewdness(והיא)vahay[וְהוּא]ve/HUand thatעָוֺןa/VONan iniquityפְּלִילִים׃pe/li/LIMfor the judges

    For this is an heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges.

12. 12

    כִּיkiforאֵשׁeshfireהִיאhithat isעַד־אֲבַדּוֹןad-a/vad/DONto destructionתֹּאכֵלto/KHELthat consumesוּבְכׇל־תְּבוּאָתִיu/ve/KHOL-te/vu/a/TIand all my increaseתְשָׁרֵשׁ׃te/sha/RESHit would uproot

    For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.

13. 13

    אִם־אֶמְאַסim-em/ASif I rejectמִשְׁפַּטmish/PATthe cause ofעַבְדִּיav/DImy servantוַאֲמָתִיva/a/ma/TIor my maidservantבְּרִבָםbe/ri/VAMwhen they contendedעִמָּדִי׃im/ma/DIwith me

    If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;

14. 14

    וּמָהu/MAthen whatאֶעֱשֶׂהe/e/SEshall I doכִּי־יָקוּםki-ya/KUMwhen rises upאֵלelGodוְכִי־יִפְקֹדve/KHI-yif/KODand when He calls to accountמָהmawhatאֲשִׁיבֶנּוּ׃a/shi/VEN/nushall I answer Him

    What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

15. 15

    הֲלֹא־בַבֶּטֶןha/LO-vab/BE/tendid not in the wombעֹשֵׂנִיo/SE/niHe who made meעָשָׂהוּa/SA/humake himוַיְכֻנֶנּוּvay/khu/NEN/nuand form usבָּרֶחֶםba/RE/chemin the wombאֶחָד׃E/CHADOne

    Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

16. 16

    אִם־אֶמְנַעim-em/NAif I have withheldמֵחֵפֶץme/CHE/fetswhat desiredדַּלִּיםdal/LIMthe poorוְעֵינֵיve/e/NEor the eyes ofאַלְמָנָהal/ma/NAa widowאֲכַלֶּה׃a/khal/LEcaused to fail

    If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

17. 17

    וְאֹכַלve/o/KHALor have eatenפִּתִּיpit/TImy morselלְבַדִּיle/vad/DIaloneוְלֹא־אָכַלve/LO-a/KHALand has not eatenיָתוֹםya/TOMthe fatherlessמִמֶּנָּה׃mim/MEN/naof it

    Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;

18. 18

    כִּיkiforמִנְּעוּרַיmin/ne/u/RAYfrom my youthגְּדֵלַנִיge/de/LA/nihe grew up with meכְאָבkhe/AVlike a fatherוּמִבֶּטֶןu/mib/BE/tenand from the womb ofאִמִּיim/MImy motherאַנְחֶנָּה׃an/CHEN/naI guided her

    (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;)

19. 19

    אִם־אֶרְאֶהim-er/Eif I have seenאוֹבֵדo/VEDanyone perishingמִבְּלִיmib/be/LIwithoutלְבוּשׁle/VUSHclothingוְאֵיןve/ENor withoutכְּסוּתke/SUTcoveringלָאֶבְיוֹן׃la/ev/YONthe needy

    If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;

20. 20

    אִם־לֹאim-loif have notבֵרְכוּנִיver/KHU/niblessed meחֲלָצָוcha/la/TSAVhis loinsוּמִגֵּזu/mig/GEZand from the fleece ofכְּבָשַׂיke/va/SAYmy lambsיִתְחַמָּם׃yit/cham/MAMwas warmed

    If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

21. 21

    אִם־הֲנִיפוֹתִיim-ha/ni/FO/tiif I have raisedעַל־יָתוֹםal-ya/TOMagainst the fatherlessיָדִיya/DImy handכִּי־אֶרְאֶהki-er/Ebecause I sawבַשַּׁעַרvash/SHA/arin the gateעֶזְרָתִי׃ez/ra/TImy help

    If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:

22. 22

    כְּתֵפִיke/te/FImy shoulderמִשִּׁכְמָהֿmish/shikh/MAfrom the shoulder bladeתִפּוֹלtip/POLlet it fallוְאֶזְרֹעִיve/ez/ro/Iand my armמִקָּנָהֿmik/ka/NAfrom the jointתִשָּׁבֵר׃tish/sha/VERlet it be broken

    Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.

23. 23

    כִּיkiforפַחַדFA/chada terrorאֵלַיe/LAYto meאֵידedwas calamity fromאֵלelGodוּמִשְּׂאֵתוֹu/mis/se/e/TOand because of His majestyלֹאlonotאוּכָל׃u/KHALI could do it

    For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

24. 24

    אִם־שַׂמְתִּיim-SAM/tiif I have madeזָהָבza/HAVgoldכִּסְלִיkis/LImy trustוְלַכֶּתֶםve/lak/KE/temor to fine goldאָמַרְתִּיa/MAR/tiI saidמִבְטַחִי׃miv/ta/CHImy confidence

    If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;

25. 25

    אִם־אֶשְׂמַחim-es/MACHif I have rejoicedכִּי־רַבki-ravbecause greatחֵילִיche/LImy wealth wasוְכִי־כַבִּירve/KHI-khab/BIRor because muchמָצְאָהma/tse/Ahad foundיָדִי׃ya/DImy hand

    If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;

26. 26

    אִם־אֶרְאֶהim-er/Eif I have looked atאוֹרorthe sunכִּיkiwhenיָהֵלya/HELit shoneוְיָרֵחַve/ya/RE/achor the moonיָקָרya/KARin splendorהֹלֵךְ׃ho/LEKHmoving

    If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;

27. 27

    וַיִּפְתְּvay/YIFTand has been enticedבַּסֵּתֶרbas/SE/tersecretlyלִבִּיlib/BImy heartוַתִּשַּׁקvat/tish/SHAKand has kissedיָדִיya/DImy handלְפִי׃le/FImy mouth

    And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand:

28. 28

    גַּם־הוּאgam-huthis also would beעָוֺןa/VONan iniquityפְּלִילִיpe/li/LIfor the judgeכִּי־כִחַשְׁתִּיki-khi/CHASH/tifor I would have deniedלָאֵלla/ELGodמִמָּעַל׃mim/MA/alfrom above

    This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.

29. 29

    אִם־אֶשְׂמַחim-es/MACHif I have rejoicedבְּפִידbe/FIDin the disaster ofמְשַׂנְאִיme/san/Ihim who hated meוְהִתְעֹרַרְתִּיve/hit/o/RAR/tior exultedכִּי־מְצָאוֹki-me/TSA/owhen found himרָע׃raevil

    If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

30. 30

    וְלֹא־נָתַתִּיve/LO-na/TAT/tino I have not allowedלַחֲטֹאla/cha/TOto sinחִכִּיchik/KImy mouthלִשְׁאֹלlish/OLby askingבְּאָלָהbe/a/LAwith a curseנַפְשׁוֹ׃naf/SHOhis life

    Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.

31. 31

    אִם־לֹאim-loif have notאָמְרוּa/me/RUsaidמְתֵיme/TEthe men ofאׇהֳלִיo/ho/LImy tentמִי־יִתֵּןmi-yit/TENwho can find oneמִבְּשָׂרוֹmib/be/sa/ROwith his meatלֹאlonotנִשְׂבָּע׃nis/BAsatisfied

    If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

32. 32

    בַּחוּץba/CHUTSin the streetלֹא־יָלִיןlo-ya/LINdid not lodgeגֵּרgerthe strangerדְּלָתַיde/la/TAYmy doorsלָאֹרַחla/O/rachto the travelerאֶפְתָּח׃ef/TACHI opened

    The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller.

33. 33

    אִם־כִּסִּיתִיim-kis/SI/tiif I have coveredכְאָדָםkhe/A/DAMlike Adamפְּשָׁעָיpe/sha/AYmy transgressionsלִטְמוֹןlit/MONby hidingבְּחֻבִּיbe/chub/BIin my bosomעֲוֺנִי׃a/vo/NImy iniquity

    If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom:

34. 34

    כִּיkibecauseאֶעֱרוֹץe/e/ROTSI fearedהָמוֹןha/MONthe multitudeרַבָּהrab/BAgreatוּבוּז־מִשְׁפָּחוֹתu/VUZ-mish/pa/CHOTand the contempt of familiesיְחִתֵּנִיye/chit/TE/niterrified meוָאֶדֹּםva/ed/DOMso that I kept silentלֹא־אֵצֵאlo-E/tseand did not go out ofפָתַח׃fa/TACHthe door

    Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door?

35. 35

    מִיmiohיִתֶּן־לִיyit/TEN-lithat I hadשֹׁמֵעַsho/ME/aone to hearלִיlimeהֶן־תָּוִיhen-ta/VIbehold my signatureשַׁדַּיShad/DAYlet the Almightyיַעֲנֵנִיya/a/NE/nianswer meוְסֵפֶרve/SE/ferand the documentכָּתַבka/TAVwrittenאִישׁishthe man ofרִיבִי׃ri/VImy dispute

    Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book.

36. 36

    אִם־לֹאim-losurelyעַל־שִׁכְמִיal-shikh/MIupon my shoulderאֶשָּׂאֶנּוּes/sa/EN/nuI would carry itאֶעֶנְדֶנּוּe/en/DEN/nuI would bind itעֲטָרוֹתa/ta/ROTas a crownלִי׃lion me

    Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me.

37. 37

    מִסְפַּרmis/PARthe number ofצְעָדַיtse/a/DAYmy stepsאַגִּידֶנּוּag/gi/DEN/nuI would declare to Himכְּמוֹ־נָגִידke/MO-na/GIDlike a princeאֲקָרְבֶנּוּ׃a/ka/re/ven/NUI would approach Him

    I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.

38. 38

    אִם־עָלַיim-a/LAYif against meאַדְמָתִיad/ma/TImy landתִזְעָקtiz/AKcries outוְיַחַדve/YA/chadand togetherתְּלָמֶיהָte/la/ME/haits furrowsיִבְכָּיוּן׃yiv/ka/YUNweep

    If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof complain;

39. 39

    אִם־כֹּחָהּim-ko/CHAif its yieldאָכַלְתִּיa/KHAL/tiI ateבְלִי־כָסֶףve/LI-KHA/sefwithout moneyוְנֶפֶשׁve/NE/feshor the life ofבְּעָלֶיהָbe/a/LE/haits ownersהִפָּחְתִּי׃hip/PACH/tiI have caused to breathe out

    If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life:

40. 40

    תַּחַתTA/chatinstead ofחִטָּהchit/TAwheatיֵצֵאye/TSElet growחוֹחַCHO/achthistlesוְתַחַת־שְׂעֹרָהve/TA/chat-se/o/RAand instead of barleyבׇאְשָׁהvo/SHAfoul weedsתַּמּוּTAM/muare endedדִּבְרֵיdiv/REthe words ofאִיּוֹב׃Iy/YOVJob

    Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.
