Job 3 אִיּוֹב פרק ג׳

1. 1

   אַחֲרֵי־כֵןhereafterפָּתַחopenedאִיּוֹבJobאֶת־פִּיהוּhis mouthוַיְקַלֵּלand cursedאֶת־יוֹמוֹ׃his day

   After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.

2. 2

   וַיַּעַןand he answeredאִיּוֹבJobוַיֹּאמַר׃and said

   And Job spake, and said,

   יֹאבַדshall perishיוֹםdayאִוָּלֶדI was bornבּוֹin itוְהַלַּיְלָהand the nightאָמַרsaidהֹרָהis conceivedגָבֶר׃a man child

   Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.

4. 4

   הַיּוֹםthe dayהַהוּאthatיְהִי־חֹשֶׁךְlet it be darknessאַל־יִדְרְשֵׁהוּlet not regard itאֱלוֹהַּGodמִמַּעַלaboveוְאַל־תּוֹפַעneither let shineעָלָיוupon himנְהָרָה׃the light

   Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.

   יִגְאָלֻהוּlet stain itחֹשֶׁךְdarknessוְצַלְמָוֶתand shadow of deathתִּשְׁכׇּן־עָלָיוlet it dwell upon itעֲנָנָהcloudיְבַעֲתֻהוּlet terrify itכִּמְרִירֵיthe blackness ofיוֹם׃day

   Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.

   הַלַּיְלָהthe nightהַהוּאthatיִקָּחֵהוּlet seize upon itאֹפֶלdarknessאַל־יִחַדְּlet it not be joinedבִּימֵיin the days ofשָׁנָהyearבְּמִסְפַּרin the number ofיְרָחִיםmoonsאַל־יָבֹא׃let it not come

   As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months.

   הִנֵּהbeholdהַלַּיְלָהthe nightהַהוּאthatיְהִיlet beגַלְמוּדsolitaryאַל־תָּבוֹאlet not comeרְנָנָהjoyful voiceבוֹ׃in him

   Lo, let that night be solitary, let no joyful voice come therein.

8. 8

   יִקְּבֻהוּlet them curse itאֹרְרֵי־יוֹםcursers of dayהָעֲתִידִיםwho are readyעֹרֵרto raise upלִוְיָתָן׃Leviathan

   Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to raise up their mourning.

9. 9

   יֶחְשְׁכוּlet them grow darkכּוֹכְבֵיthe stars ofנִשְׁפּוֹits twilightיְקַו־לְאוֹרlet it look for lightוָאַיִןbut have noneוְאַל־יִרְאֶהneither let it seeבְּעַפְעַפֵּי־שָׁחַר׃the eyelids of the morning

   Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:

    כִּיbecauseלֹאnotסָגַרhe closedדַּלְתֵיthe doors ofבִטְנִיmy wombוַיַּסְתֵּרand hidעָמָלsorrowמֵעֵינָי׃from my eyes

    Because it shut not up the doors of my mother's womb, nor hid sorrow from mine eyes.

11. 11

    לָמָּהwhyלֹּאnotמֵרֶחֶםfrom the womb ofאָמוּתI shall dieמִבֶּטֶןfrom the wombיָצָאתִיI came outוְאֶגְוָע׃and give up the ghost

    Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly?

12. 12

    מַדּוּעַwhyקִדְּמוּנִיdid prevent meבִרְכָּיִםkneesוּמַה־שָּׁדַיִםor why the breastsכִּיthatאִינָק׃I should suck

    Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should suck?

13. 13

    כִּי־עַתָּהbecause nowשָׁכַבְתִּיI had lain stillוְאֶשְׁקוֹטand I may be at peaceיָשַׁנְתִּיI sleptאָזthenיָנוּחַhad I been at restלִי׃to me

    For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest,

14. 14

    עִם־מְלָכִיםwith kingsוְיֹעֲצֵיand counselors ofאָרֶץthe earthהַבֹּנִיםwho builtחֳרָבוֹתdesolate placesלָמוֹ׃for them

    With kings and counsellors of the earth, which built desolate places for themselves;

15. 15

    אוֹorעִם־שָׂרִיםwith princesזָהָבgoldלָהֶםto themהַמְמַלְאִיםthose who filledבָּתֵּיהֶםtheir own housesכָּסֶף׃silver

    Or with princes that had gold, who filled their houses with silver:

16. 16

    אוֹorכְנֵפֶלlike a miscarriageטָמוּןhiddenלֹאnotאֶהְיֶהI may beכְּעֹלְלִיםas infantsלֹא־רָאוּnot sawאוֹר׃light

    Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light.

17. 17

    שָׁםthereרְשָׁעִיםwicked menחָדְלוּcease fromרֹגֶזturmoilוְשָׁםand thereיָנוּחוּthey might restיְגִיעֵיthe wearyכֹחַ׃in strength

    There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest.

18. 18

    יַחַדtogetherאֲסִירִיםthe prisonersשַׁאֲנָנוּthey are at easeלֹאnotשָׁמְעוּthey heardקוֹלthe voice ofנֹגֵשׂ׃the oppressor

    There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor.

19. 19

    קָטֹןthe smallוְגָדוֹלand greatשָׁםthereהוּאheוְעֶבֶדand the servant ofחׇפְשִׁיfreeמֵאֲדֹנָיו׃from his master

    The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master.

20. 20

    לָמָּהwhyיִתֵּןshall giveלְעָמֵלto him that is in miseryאוֹרlightוְחַיִּיםand lifeלְמָרֵיto people bitter ofנָפֶשׁ׃souls

    Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul;

21. 21

    הַמְחַכִּיםthose who longלַמָּוֶתthe deathוְאֵינֶנּוּand it is notוַיַּחְפְּרֻהוּand dig for itמִמַּטְמוֹנִים׃more than hidden treasures

    Which long for death, but it cometh not; and dig for it more than for hid treasures;

22. 22

    הַשְּׂמֵחִיםwho rejoiceאֱלֵי־גִילexceedinglyיָשִׂישׂוּshall they rejoiceכִּיbecauseיִמְצְאוּ־קָבֶר׃they might find a burial site

    Which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?

23. 23

    לְגֶבֶרto a manאֲשֶׁר־דַּרְכּוֹwhich his wayנִסְתָּרָהit is hiddenוַיָּסֶךְand has hedged inאֱלוֹהַּGodבַּעֲדוֹ׃about him

    Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom God hath hedged in?

24. 24

    כִּי־לִפְנֵיbecause beforeלַחְמִיmy foodאַנְחָתִיmy groaningתָבֹאcomeוַיִּתְּכוּand are poured outכַמַּיִםlike the waterשַׁאֲגֹתָי׃my roarings

    For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters.

25. 25

    כִּיforפַחַדthe fearפָּחַדְתִּיI fearedוַיֶּאֱתָיֵנִיand it is come upon meוַאֲשֶׁרand whichיָגֹרְתִּיI was afraidיָבֹאshall comeלִי׃to me

    For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.

26. 26

    לֹאnotשָׁלַוְתִּיI am at easeוְלֹאand notשָׁקַטְתִּיI am at peaceוְלֹא־נָחְתִּיand not I am at restוַיָּבֹאand cameרֹגֶז׃turmoil

    I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.
