Job 2 אִיּוֹב פרק ב׳

   וַיְהִיvay/HIagain there wasהַיּוֹםhay/YOMa day whenוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/ucameבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodלְהִתְיַצֵּבle/hit/yats/TSEVto present themselvesעַל־יְהֹוָהal-Adonaibefore the LORDוַיָּבוֹאvay/ya/VOand cameגַם־הַשָּׂטָןgam-Has/sa/TANalso the Adversaryבְּתֹכָםbe/to/KHAMamong themלְהִתְיַצֵּבle/hit/yats/TSEVto present themselvesעַל־יְהֹוָה׃al-Adonaibefore the LORD

   Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־הַשָּׂטָןel-Has/sa/TANto the Adversaryאֵיewhereמִזֶּהmiz/ZEfrom thisתָּבֹאta/VOdo you comeוַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredהַשָּׂטָןhas/Sa/TANthe Adversaryאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidמִשֻּׁטmish/SHUTfrom going to and froבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the earthוּמֵהִתְהַלֵּךְu/me/hit/hal/LEKHand from walking back and forthבָּהּ׃bain it

   And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־הַשָּׂטָןel-Has/sa/TANto the Adversaryהֲשַׂמְתָּha/SAM/tahave you setלִבְּךָlib/be/KHAyour heartאֶל־עַבְדִּיel-av/DIon My servantאִיּוֹבIy/YOVJobכִּיkithatאֵיןenthere is noneכָּמֹהוּka/MO/hulike himבָּאָרֶץba/A/retson the earthאִישׁisha manתָּםtamblamelessוְיָשָׁרve/ya/SHARand uprightיְרֵאye/REone who fearsאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוְסָרve/SARand turns awayמֵרָעme/RAfrom evilוְעֹדֶנּוּve/o/DEN/nuand still heמַחֲזִיקma/cha/ZIKholds fastבְּתֻמָּתוֹbe/tum/ma/TOto his integrityוַתְּסִיתֵנִיvat/te/si/TE/nithough you incited Meבוֹvoagainst himלְבַלְּעוֹle/val/le/Oto ruin himחִנָּם׃chin/NAMwithout cause

   And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.

4. 4

   וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredהַשָּׂטָןhas/Sa/TANthe Adversaryאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidעוֹרorskinבְּעַד־עוֹרbe/AD-orfor skinוְכֹלve/KHOLyes allאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatלָאִישׁla/ISHa man hasיִתֵּןyit/TENhe will giveבְּעַדbe/ADforנַפְשׁוֹ׃naf/SHOhis life

   And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.

5. 5

   אוּלָםu/LAMbutשְׁלַח־נָאshe/LACH-nastretch out nowיָדְךָya/de/KHAYour handוְגַעve/GAand touchאֶל־עַצְמוֹel-ats/MOhis boneוְאֶל־בְּשָׂרוֹve/EL-be/sa/ROand his fleshאִם־לֹאim-loif notאֶל־פָּנֶיךָel-pa/NE/khato Your faceיְבָרְכֶךָּ׃ye/va/re/khek/KAhe will curse You

   But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־הַשָּׂטָןel-Has/sa/TANto the Adversaryהִנּוֹhin/NObehold he isבְיָדֶךָve/ya/DE/khain your handאַךְakhonlyאֶת־נַפְשׁוֹet-naf/SHOhis lifeשְׁמֹר׃she/MORspare

   And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.

7. 7

   וַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outהַשָּׂטָןhas/Sa/TANthe Adversaryמֵאֵתme/ETfromפְּנֵיpe/NEthe presence ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַיַּךְvay/YAKHand he struckאֶת־אִיּוֹבet-Iy/YOVJobבִּשְׁחִיןbish/CHINwith boilsרָעrapainfulמִכַּףmik/KAFfrom the sole ofרַגְלוֹrag/LOhis foot(עד)d[וְעַד]ve/ADtoקׇדְקֳדוֹ׃kod/ko/DOthe crown of his head

   So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

8. 8

   וַיִּקַּח־לוֹvay/yik/KACH-loand he took for himselfחֶרֶשׂCHE/resa potsherdלְהִתְגָּרֵדle/hit/ga/REDto scrape himselfבּוֹbowith itוְהוּאve/HUand heיֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVsatבְּתוֹךְ־הָאֵפֶר׃be/TOKH-ha/E/feramong the ashes

   And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.

9. 9

   וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidלוֹloto himאִשְׁתּוֹish/TOhis wifeעֹדְךָod/KHAdo you stillמַחֲזִיקma/cha/ZIKhold fastבְּתֻמָּתֶךָbe/tum/ma/TE/khato your integrityבָּרֵךְba/REKHcurseאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוָמֻת׃va/MUTand die

   Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלֶיהָe/LE/hato herכְּדַבֵּרke/dab/BERas speaksאַחַתa/CHATone ofהַנְּבָלוֹתhan/ne/va/LOTthe foolish womenתְּדַבֵּרִיte/dab/BE/riyou speakגַּםgamshallאֶת־הַטּוֹבet-hat/TOVthe goodנְקַבֵּלne/kab/BELwe receiveמֵאֵתme/ETfromהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodוְאֶת־הָרָעve/ET-ha/RAand the evilלֹאlonotנְקַבֵּלne/kab/BELshall we receiveבְּכׇל־זֹאתbe/KHOL-zotin all thisלֹא־חָטָאlo-cha/TAdid not sinאִיּוֹבIy/YOVJobבִּשְׂפָתָיו׃bis/fa/TAYVwith his lips

    But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

    Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.

    וַיִּשְׂאוּvay/yis/Uand when they lifted upאֶת־עֵינֵיהֶםet-e/ne/HEMtheir eyesמֵרָחוֹקme/ra/CHOKfrom afarוְלֹאve/LOand notהִכִּירֻהוּhik/ki/RU/hudid they recognize himוַיִּשְׂאוּvay/yis/Uand they lifted upקוֹלָםko/LAMtheir voicesוַיִּבְכּוּvay/yiv/KUand they weptוַיִּקְרְעוּvay/yik/re/Uand they toreאִישׁisheachמְעִלוֹme/i/LOhis robeוַיִּזְרְקוּvay/yiz/re/KUand sprinkledעָפָרa/FARdustעַל־רָאשֵׁיהֶםal-ra/she/HEMon their headsהַשָּׁמָיְמָה׃hash/sha/MAY/matoward heaven

    And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.

    וַיֵּשְׁבוּvay/yesh/VUand they satאִתּוֹit/TOwith himלָאָרֶץla/A/retson the groundשִׁבְעַתshiv/ATsevenיָמִיםya/MIMdaysוְשִׁבְעַתve/shiv/ATand sevenלֵילוֹתle/LOTnightsוְאֵין־דֹּבֵרve/EN-do/VERand no one spokeאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himדָּבָרda/VARa wordכִּיkiforרָאוּra/Uthey sawכִּי־גָדַלki-ga/DALthat was greatהַכְּאֵבhak/ke/EVthe griefמְאֹד׃me/ODvery

    So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great.
