Job 29 אִיּוֹב פרק כ״ט

   וַיֹּסֶףand continuedאִיּוֹבJobשְׂאֵתto take upמְשָׁלוֹhis oracleוַיֹּאמַר׃and said

   Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,

2. 2

   מִי־יִתְּנֵנִיoh that I wereכְיַרְחֵי־קֶדֶםlike months of oldכִּימֵיas days ofאֱלוֹהַּGodיִשְׁמְרֵנִי׃preserved me

   Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;

3. 3

   בְּהִלּוֹwhen shinedנֵרוֹhis lampעֲלֵיonרֹאשִׁיmy headלְאוֹרוֹby his lightאֵלֶךְI walkedחֹשֶׁךְ׃darkness

   When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

   כַּאֲשֶׁרasהָיִיתִיI wasבִּימֵיin the days ofחׇרְפִּיmy youthבְּסוֹדwhen the secret ofאֱלוֹהַּGodעֲלֵיonאׇהֳלִי׃the tent of my

   As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;

   בְּעוֹדin yetשַׁדַּיAlmightyעִמָּדִיwith meסְבִיבוֹתַיwere around meנְעָרָי׃my children

   When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;

6. 6

   בִּרְחֹץwhen I washedהֲלִיכַיmy stepsבְּחֵמָהwith butterוְצוּרand the rock ofיָצוּקpoured me outעִמָּדִיwith meפַּלְגֵי־שָׁמֶן׃rivers of oil

   When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;

   בְּצֵאתִיwhen I went outשַׁעַרthe gate ofעֲלֵי־קָרֶתthrough the cityבָּרְחוֹבin the open squareאָכִיןI preparedמוֹשָׁבִי׃my seat

   When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!

   רָאוּנִיthey saw meנְעָרִיםthe young menוְנֶחְבָּאוּand they hid themselvesוִישִׁישִׁיםand old menקָמוּaroseעָמָדוּ׃and stood up

   The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.

9. 9

   שָׂרִיםprincesעָצְרוּrefrainedבְמִלִּיםtalkingוְכַףand their handיָשִׂימוּlaidלְפִיהֶם׃to their mouth

   The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.

10. 10

    קוֹל־נְגִידִיםthe noblesנֶחְבָּאוּheld their peaceוּלְשׁוֹנָםand their tongueלְחִכָּםto the roof of their mouthדָּבֵקָה׃it stuck

    The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.

    כִּיbecauseאֹזֶןan earשָׁמְעָהshe heardוַתְּאַשְּׁרֵנִיand it called blessed meוְעַיִןand when the eyeרָאֲתָהshe sawוַתְּעִידֵנִי׃it gave witness to me

    When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me:

    כִּי־אֲמַלֵּטbecause I deliveredעָנִיpoorמְשַׁוֵּעַwho cried for helpוְיָתוֹםand a fatherless oneוְלֹא־עֹזֵרand him that had none to helpלוֹ׃to him

    Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.

13. 13

    בִּרְכַּתblessing ofאֹבֵדhim that was ready to perishעָלַיupon meתָּבֹאcomesוְלֵבand heartאַלְמָנָהa widowאַרְנִן׃I caused to sing for joy

    The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.

14. 14

    צֶדֶקrighteousnessלָבַשְׁתִּיI put onוַיִּלְבָּשֵׁנִיand it clothed meכִּמְעִילas a robeוְצָנִיףand a diademמִשְׁפָּטִי׃my judgment

    I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.

15. 15

    עֵינַיִםeyesהָיִיתִיI wasלַעִוֵּרto the blindוְרַגְלַיִםand feetלַפִּסֵּחַto the lameאָנִי׃I

    I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame.

16. 16

    אָבfatherאָנֹכִיIלָאֶבְיוֹנִיםto the needyוְרִבand the cause whichלֹא־יָדַעְתִּיnot I knowאֶחְקְרֵהוּ׃I searched out

    I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.

17. 17

    וָאֲשַׁבְּרָהand I brakeמְתַלְּעוֹתthe jaws ofעַוָּלof the wickedוּמִשִּׁנָּיוand from his teethאַשְׁלִיךְI pluckedטָרֶף׃the spoil

    And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.

18. 18

    וָאֹמַרand I saidעִם־קִנִּיwith my nestאֶגְוָעI shall dieוְכַחוֹלand like the sandאַרְבֶּהI shall multiplyיָמִים׃days

    Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.

19. 19

    שׇׁרְשִׁיmy rootפָתוּחַwas spread outאֱלֵי־מָיִםto waterוְטַלand dewיָלִיןlay all nightבִּקְצִירִי׃upon my branch

    My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.

20. 20

    כְּבוֹדִיmy gloryחָדָשׁwas freshעִמָּדִיwith meוְקַשְׁתִּיand my bowבְּיָדִיby my handתַחֲלִיף׃was renewed

    My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.

21. 21

    לִי־שָׁמְעוּunto me men gave earוְיִחֵלּוּand waitedוְיִדְּמוּand kept silenceלְמוֹatעֲצָתִי׃my counsel

    Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.

22. 22

    אַחֲרֵיafterדְבָרִיmy wordsלֹאnotיִשְׁנוּthey spoke not againוְעָלֵימוֹand on themתִּטֹּףdroppedמִלָּתִי׃my speech

    After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.

23. 23

    וְיִחֲלוּand they waited for meכַמָּטָרlike the rainלִיto meוּפִיהֶםand their mouthפָּעֲרוּthey opened wideלְמַלְקוֹשׁ׃for spring rain

    And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.

24. 24

    אֶשְׂחַקI laughedאֲלֵהֶםunto themלֹאnotיַאֲמִינוּthey believed it notוְאוֹרand lightפָּנַיmy faceלֹאnotיַפִּילוּן׃they cast not down

    If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.

25. 25

    אֶבְחַרI chose outדַּרְכָּםtheir wayוְאֵשֵׁבand satרֹאשׁchiefוְאֶשְׁכּוֹןand dweltכְּמֶלֶךְas a kingבַּגְּדוּדin the armyכַּאֲשֶׁרasאֲבֵלִיםmournersיְנַחֵם׃comforts

    I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforteth the mourners.
