מַדּוּעַwhyמִשַּׁדַּיfrom the Almightyלֹא־נִצְפְּנוּare not hiddenעִתִּיםtimesוְיֹדְעָוand they that know himלֹא־חָזוּdo not seeיָמָיו׃his days
Why, seeing times are not hidden from the Almighty, do they that know him not see his days?

גְּבֻלוֹתthe landmarksיַשִּׂיגוּsome removeעֵדֶרflocksגָּזְלוּthey violently take awayוַיִּרְעוּ׃and feed thereof
Some remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and feed thereof.

חֲמוֹרa donkeyיְתוֹמִיםfatherless onesיִנְהָגוּthey drive awayיַחְבְּלוּthey take for a pledgeשׁוֹרan oxאַלְמָנָה׃a widow
They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow's ox for a pledge.

יַטּוּthey turn outאֶבְיֹנִיםthe needyמִדָּרֶךְfrom the pathיַחַדtogetherחֻבְּאוּhide themselvesעֲנִיֵּי־אָרֶץ׃the poor of the earth
They turn the needy out of the way: the poor of the earth hide themselves together.

הֵןbeholdפְּרָאִיםwild assesבַּמִּדְבָּרin the wildernessיָצְאוּwent forthבְּפׇעֳלָםto their workמְשַׁחֲרֵיrising betimesלַטָּרֶףfor a preyעֲרָבָהthe wildernessלוֹyieldsלֶחֶםbreadלַנְּעָרִים׃for their children
Behold, as wild asses in the desert, go they forth to their work; rising betimes for a prey: the wilderness yieldeth food for them and for their children.

בַּשָּׂדֶהin the fieldבְּלִילוֹhis corn[יִקְצוֹרוּ]they harvestוְכֶרֶםand the vineyard ofרָשָׁעwickedיְלַקֵּשׁוּ׃they gather the vintage
They reap every one his corn in the field: and they gather the vintage of the wicked.

עָרוֹםthe nakedיָלִינוּthey cause to lodgeמִבְּלִיwithoutלְבוּשׁclothingוְאֵיןand there is noכְּסוּתa covering ofבַּקָּרָה׃in the cold
They cause the naked to lodge without clothing, that they have no covering in the cold.

מִזֶּרֶםwith the showers ofהָרִיםmountainsיִרְטָבוּthey are wetוּמִבְּלִיand for want ofמַחְסֶהshelterחִבְּקוּ־צוּר׃they embrace the rock
They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for want of a shelter.

יִגְזְלוּthey shall robמִשֹּׁדfrom the breastיָתוֹםa fatherless oneוְעַל־עָנִיand upon poorיַחְבֹּלוּ׃and take a pledge
They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor.

עָרוֹםnakedהִלְּכוּthey cause him to goבְּלִיwithoutלְבוּשׁclothingוּרְעֵבִיםand hungryנָשְׂאוּtookעֹמֶר׃a sheaf of
They cause him to go naked without clothing, and they take away the sheaf from the hungry;

בֵּין־שׁוּרֹתָםwithin their wallsיַצְהִירוּthey press out oilיְקָבִיםwine pressesדָּרְכוּand treadוַיִּצְמָאוּ׃and suffer thirst
Which make oil within their walls, and tread their winepresses, and suffer thirst.

מֵעִירfrom out of the cityמְתִיםmenיִנְאָקוּthey groanוְנֶפֶשׁ־חֲלָלִיםand soul those slainתְּשַׁוֵּעַit cries for helpוֶאֱלוֹהַּand Godלֹא־יָשִׂיםlays notתִּפְלָה׃folly
Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded crieth out: yet God layeth not folly to them.

הֵמָּהtheyהָיוּwereבְּמֹרְדֵי־אוֹרamong those who rebel against lightלֹא־הִכִּירוּnot they recognizedדְרָכָיוthe ways thereofוְלֹאand notיָשְׁבוּabideבִּנְתִיבֹתָיו׃in its paths
They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof.

לָאוֹרto lightיָקוּםhe shall riseרוֹצֵחַa manslayerיִקְטׇל־עָנִיkills the poorוְאֶבְיוֹןand needyוּבַלַּיְלָהand in the nightיְהִיisכַגַּנָּב׃like the thief
The murderer rising with the light killeth the poor and needy, and in the night is as a thief.

וְעֵיןand the eye ofנֹאֵףan adultererשָׁמְרָה־נֶשֶׁףwaits for the twilightלֵאמֹרsayingלֹא־תְשׁוּרֵנִיnot it will observe meעָיִןeyeוְסֵתֶרand disguisesפָּנִיםhis faceיָשִׂים׃he appointed
The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguiseth his face.

חָתַרhe digs intoבַּחֹשֶׁךְin the darknessבָּתִּיםhousesיוֹמָםby dayחִתְּמוּ־לָמוֹwhich they had marked for themselvesלֹא־יָדְעוּknow notאוֹר׃light
In the dark they dig through houses, which they had marked for themselves in the daytime: they know not the light.

כִּיbecauseיַחְדָּוtogetherבֹּקֶרmorningלָמוֹfor themצַלְמָוֶתthe shadow of deathכִּי־יַכִּירif one know themבַּלְהוֹתin the terrors ofצַלְמָוֶת׃the shadow of death
For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one know them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death.

קַל־הוּאhe is swiftעַל־פְּנֵי־מַיִםupon the face of waterתְּקֻלַּלis cursedחֶלְקָתָםtheir portionבָּאָרֶץin the landלֹא־יִפְנֶהhe beholds notדֶּרֶךְthe way ofכְּרָמִים׃vineyards
He is swift as the waters; their portion is cursed in the earth: he beholdeth not the way of the vineyards.

צִיָּהdroughtגַם־חֹםalso heatיִגְזְלוּconsumeמֵימֵי־שֶׁלֶגthe waters of snowשְׁאוֹלSheolחָטָאוּ׃those which have sinned
Drought and heat consume the snow waters: so doth the grave those which have sinned.

יִשְׁכָּחֵהוּit forgets himרֶחֶםwombמְתָקוֹshall feed sweetly on himרִמָּהthe wormעוֹדany moreלֹא־יִזָּכֵרnot to be rememberedוַתִּשָּׁבֵרand shall be brokenכָּעֵץlike the treeעַוְלָה׃wickedness
The womb shall forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree.

רֹעֶהhe evil entreatsעֲקָרָהbarrenלֹאnotתֵלֵדshe will bearוְאַלְמָנָהand a widowלֹאnotיְיֵטִיב׃he does good to
He evil entreateth the barren that beareth not: and doeth not good to the widow.

וּמָשַׁךְand draw awayאַבִּירִיםmighty onesבְּכֹחוֹwith his powerיָקוּםhe shall riseוְלֹא־יַאֲמִיןand no man is sureבַּחַיִּין׃of life
He draweth also the mighty with his power: he riseth up, and no man is sure of life.

יִתֶּן־לוֹhe will give himלָבֶטַחin safetyוְיִשָּׁעֵןwhereon he restsוְעֵינֵיהוּand his eyesעַל־דַּרְכֵיהֶם׃upon their ways
Though it be given him to be in safety, whereon he resteth; yet his eyes are upon their ways.

רוֹמּוּthey are exaltedמְּעַטa littleוְאֵינֶנּוּand it is notוְהֻמְּכוּand they are brought lowכַּכֹּלlike all otherיִקָּפְצוּןthey are taken out of the wayוּכְרֹאשׁand like a head ofשִׁבֹּלֶתan ear of cornיִמָּלוּ׃shall be cut off
They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other, and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn.

וְאִם־לֹאand if notאֵפוֹthenמִיwhoיַכְזִיבֵנִיwill make me a liarוְיָשֵׂםand setלְאַלnothing worthמִלָּתִי׃my speech
And if it be not so now, who will make me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth?
