Job 19 אִיּוֹב פרק י״ט

   וַיַּעַןand he answeredאִיּוֹבJobוַיֹּאמַר׃and said

   Then Job answered and said,

2. 2

   עַד־אָנָהhow longתּוֹגְיוּןwill you vexנַפְשִׁיmy lifeוּתְדַכּאוּנַנִיand break me in piecesבְמִלִּים׃with words

   How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?

3. 3

   זֶהthisעֶשֶׂרtenפְּעָמִיםtimesתַּכְלִימוּנִיyou have insulted meלֹא־תֵבֹשׁוּnot you have been ashamedתַּהְכְּרוּ־לִי׃you make yourselves strange to me

   These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me.

   וְאַף־אׇמְנָםand yet verilyשָׁגִיתִיI erredאִתִּיwith meתָּלִיןremainsמְשׁוּגָתִי׃my error

   And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself.

5. 5

   אִם־אׇמְנָםif verilyעָלַיupon meתַּגְדִּילוּyou will magnify yourselvesוְתוֹכִיחוּand pleadעָלַיagainst meחֶרְפָּתִי׃my reproach

   If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach:

   דְּעוּ־אֵפוֹknow thenכִּי־אֱלוֹהַּbecause Godעִוְּתָנִיhas overthrown meוּמְצוּדוֹand his netעָלַיupon meהִקִּיף׃has compassed

   Know now that God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net.

   הֵןbeholdאֶצְעַקI cry out ofחָמָסwrongוְלֹאand notאֵעָנֶהI am not heardאֲשַׁוַּעI cry aloudוְאֵיןand there is noמִשְׁפָּט׃judgment

   Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.

8. 8

   אׇרְחִיmy pathגָדַרhe has fenced upוְלֹאand notאֶעֱבוֹרI cannot passוְעַלand uponנְתִיבוֹתַיmy pathsחֹשֶׁךְdarknessיָשִׂים׃he has set

   He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.

9. 9

   כְּבוֹדִיmy gloryמֵעָלַיfrom meהִפְשִׁיטhe has stripped offוַיָּסַרand he has takenעֲטֶרֶתcrown ofרֹאשִׁי׃my head

   He hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.

10. 10

    יִתְּצֵנִיhe has destroyed meסָבִיבall aroundוָאֵלַךְand I have goneוַיַּסַּעand has removedכָּעֵץlike the treeתִּקְוָתִי׃my hope

    He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and mine hope hath he removed like a tree.

11. 11

    וַיַּחַרand he has kindledעָלַיupon meאַפּוֹhis wrathוַיַּחְשְׁבֵנִיand he counts meלוֹto himכְצָרָיו׃as one of his enemies

    He hath also kindled his wrath against me, and he counteth me unto him as one of his enemies.

12. 12

    יַחַדtogetherיָבֹאוּcomeגְדוּדָיוhis troopsוַיָּסֹלּוּand raise upעָלַיupon meדַּרְכָּםtheir wayוַיַּחֲנוּand they encampedסָבִיבall aroundלְאׇהֳלִי׃the tent of my

    His troops come together, and raise up their way against me, and encamp round about my tabernacle.

13. 13

    אַחַיmy brothersמֵעָלַיfrom meהִרְחִיקhe has put far awayוְיֹדְעַיand my acquaintanceאַךְ־זָרוּbut they have become estrangedמִמֶּנִּי׃from me

    He hath put my brethren far from me, and mine acquaintance are verily estranged from me.

14. 14

    חָדְלוּceasedקְרוֹבָיmy kinsfolkוּמְיֻדָּעַיand my familiar friendsשְׁכֵחוּנִי׃they have forgotten me

    My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me.

15. 15

    גָּרֵיthey that dwell inבֵיתִיmy houseוְאַמְהֹתַיand my maidsלְזָרto a strangerתַּחְשְׁבֻנִיthey consider meנׇכְרִיan alienהָיִיתִיI wasבְעֵינֵיהֶם׃in their sight

    They that dwell in mine house, and my maids, count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their sight.

16. 16

    לְעַבְדִּיmy servantקָרָאתִיcalledוְלֹאand notיַעֲנֶהhe gave no answerבְּמוֹ־פִיwith my mouthאֶתְחַנֶּן־לוֹ׃I entreated him

    I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I intreated him with my mouth.

17. 17

    רוּחִיmy breathזָרָהstrangeלְאִשְׁתִּיto my wifeוְחַנֹּתִיthough I entreatedלִבְנֵיunto the sons ofבִטְנִי׃my womb

    My breath is strange to my wife, though I intreated for the children's sake of mine own body.

18. 18

    גַּם־עֲוִילִיםyea young childrenמָאֲסוּrejectedבִיmeאָקוּמָהlet me ariseוַיְדַבְּרוּ־בִי׃and they spoke against me

    Yea, young children despised me; I arose, and they spake against me.

19. 19

    תִּעֲבוּנִיthey abhor meכׇּל־מְתֵיall the men ofסוֹדִיmy inward friendsוְזֶה־אָהַבְתִּיand they whom I lovedנֶהְפְּכוּ־בִי׃are turned against me

    All my inward friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved are turned against me.

20. 20

    בְּעוֹרִיon my skinוּבִבְשָׂרִיand on my fleshדָּבְקָהcleavesעַצְמִיmy boneוָאֶתְמַלְּטָהand I have escapedבְּעוֹרwith the skin ofשִׁנָּי׃my teeth

    My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.

21. 21

    חׇנֻּנִיbe gracious to meחׇנֻּנִיbe gracious to meאַתֶּםyou areרֵעָיO my friendsכִּיforיַד־אֱלוֹהַּhand of Godנָגְעָהit had touchedבִּי׃me

    Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me.

22. 22

    לָמָּהwhyתִּרְדְּפֻנִיare you persecuting meכְמוֹ־אֵלlike Godוּמִבְּשָׂרִיand from my fleshלֹאnotתִשְׂבָּעוּ׃you will be satisfied

    Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?

23. 23

    מִי־יִתֵּןoh thatאֵפוֹthenוְיִכָּתְבוּןand they will be written downמִלָּיmy wordsמִי־יִתֵּןoh thatבַּסֵּפֶרin the bookוְיֻחָקוּ׃so they may be inscribed

    Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!

24. 24

    בְּעֵט־בַּרְזֶלwith a stylus of ironוְעֹפָרֶתand leadלָעַדforeverבַּצּוּרin the rockיֵחָצְבוּן׃they will be engraved

    That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever!

25. 25

    וַאֲנִיand IיָדַעְתִּיI knowגֹּאֲלִיmy redeemerחָיlivesוְאַחֲרוֹןand at the latter dayעַל־עָפָרupon the earthיָקוּם׃he shall rise

    For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

26. 26

    וְאַחַרand thenעוֹרִיmy skinנִקְּפוּ־זֹאתworms destroy this bodyוּמִבְּשָׂרִיand from my fleshאֶחֱזֶהI will seeאֱלוֹהַּ׃God

    And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:

27. 27

    אֲשֶׁרwhichאֲנִיIאֶחֱזֶה־לִּיI shall see for myselfוְעֵינַיand my own eyesרָאוּsawוְלֹא־זָרand not anotherכָּלוּare consumedכִלְיֹתַיmy kidneysבְּחֵקִי׃in my bosom

    Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.

28. 28

    כִּיbecauseתֹאמְרוּyou sayמַה־נִּרְדׇּף־לוֹwhy persecute we himוְשֹׁרֶשׁand the root ofדָּבָרa thingנִמְצָא־בִי׃is found in me

    But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me?

29. 29

    גּוּרוּbe afraidלָכֶםto youמִפְּנֵי־חֶרֶבbecause of the sword ofכִּי־חֵמָהbecause wrathעֲוֺנוֹתthe punishments ofחָרֶבa swordלְמַעַןin order thatתֵּדְעוּןyou may know[שַׁדּוּן]׃there is a judgment

    Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment.
