Job 20 אִיּוֹב פרק כ׳

1. 1

   וַיַּעַןand he answeredצֹפַרZopharהַנַּעֲמָתִיthe Naamathiteוַיֹּאמַר׃and said

   Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

   לָכֵןthereforeשְׂעִפַּיmy disquieting thoughtsיְשִׁיבוּנִיcause me to answerוּבַעֲבוּרand becauseחוּשִׁיI make hasteבִי׃in me

   Therefore do my thoughts cause me to answer, and for this I make haste.

3. 3

   מוּסַרthe discipline ofכְּלִמָּתִיmy insultאֶשְׁמָעI heardוְרוּחַand the spirit ofמִבִּינָתִיfrom my understandingיַעֲנֵנִי׃causes me to answer

   I have heard the check of my reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causeth me to answer.

   הֲזֹאתthisיָדַעְתָּyou knowמִנִּי־עַדof oldמִנִּיsinceשִׂיםwas placedאָדָםmanעֲלֵי־אָרֶץ׃on the earth

   Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth,

5. 5

   כִּיforרִנְנַתthe triumphing ofרְשָׁעִיםwicked menמִקָּרוֹבis shortוְשִׂמְחַתand the joy ofחָנֵףa hypocriteעֲדֵי־רָגַע׃but for a moment

   That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

6. 6

   אִם־יַעֲלֶהthough mount upלַשָּׁמַיִםto the heavensשִׂיאוֹhis excellencyוְרֹאשׁוֹand his headלָעָבto the cloudsיַגִּיעַ׃reach

   Though his excellency mount up to the heavens, and his head reach unto the clouds;

   כְּגֶלְלוֹlike his own dungלָנֶצַחforeverיֹאבֵדdoes perishרֹאָיוthey which have seen himיֹאמְרוּshall sayאַיּוֹ׃where is he

   Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they which have seen him shall say, Where is he?

8. 8

   כַּחֲלוֹםas if a dreamיָעוּףhe shall fly awayוְלֹאand notיִמְצָאוּהוּthey will find himוְיֻדַּדyea he shall be chased awayכְּחֶזְיוֹןlike a vision ofלָיְלָה׃night

   He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night.

9. 9

   עַיִןeyeשְׁזָפַתּוּwhich saw himוְלֹאand notתוֹסִיףshall do so againוְלֹא־עוֹדand not any moreתְּשׁוּרֶנּוּit will see himמְקוֹמוֹ׃its own place

   The eye also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him.

10. 10

    בָּנָיוhis sonsיְרַצּוּthey will seek the favor ofדַלִּיםthe poorוְיָדָיוand his handsתָּשֵׁבְנָהthey will give backאוֹנוֹ׃their goods

    His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.

11. 11

    עַצְמוֹתָיוhis bonesמָלְאוּare full ofעֲלוּמָוthe sin of his youthוְעִמּוֹwhich with himעַל־עָפָרupon the earthתִּשְׁכָּב׃you will lie down

    His bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust.

12. 12

    אִם־תַּמְתִּיקif it is sweetבְּפִיוin his mouthרָעָהevilיַכְחִידֶנָּהthough he hide itתַּחַתunderלְשֹׁנוֹ׃his tongue

    Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue;

13. 13

    יַחְמֹלthough he spare itעָלֶיהָupon itוְלֹאand notיַעַזְבֶנָּהforsake itוְיִמְנָעֶנָּהbut keep it stillבְּתוֹךְamongחִכּוֹ׃his mouth

    Though he spare it, and forsake it not; but keep it still within his mouth:

14. 14

    לַחְמוֹhis breadבְּמֵעָיוin his bowelsנֶהְפָּךְis turnedמְרוֹרַתthe gall ofפְּתָנִיםcobrasבְּקִרְבּוֹ׃in the midst of him

    Yet his meat in his bowels is turned, it is the gall of asps within him.

15. 15

    חַיִלrichesבָּלַעhe has swallowed downוַיְקִאֶנּוּand he has vomited up itמִבִּטְנוֹfrom his bellyיֹרִשֶׁנּוּshall cast them outאֵל׃God

    He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.

16. 16

    רֹאשׁ־פְּתָנִיםthe poison of aspsיִינָקhe shall suckתַּהַרְגֵהוּit slays himלְשׁוֹןthe language ofאֶפְעֶה׃the viper

    He shall suck the poison of asps: the viper's tongue shall slay him.

17. 17

    אַל־יֵרֶאdo not let him seeבִפְלַגּוֹתthe riversנַהֲרֵיthe floodsנַחֲלֵיbrooks ofדְּבַשׁhoneyוְחֶמְאָה׃and butter

    He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of honey and butter.

18. 18

    מֵשִׁיבreturningיָגָעthat which he labored forוְלֹאand notיִבְלָעshall he swallow it downכְּחֵילaccording to his substanceתְּמוּרָתוֹshall the restitution beוְלֹאand notיַעֲלֹס׃shall he rejoice

    That which he laboured for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: according to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice therein.

19. 19

    כִּי־רִצַּץbecause he has oppressedעָזַבand has forsakenדַּלִּיםthe poorבַּיִתhouseגָּזַלhe has violently taken awayוְלֹאand notיִבְנֵהוּ׃which he built not

    Because he hath oppressed and hath forsaken the poor; because he hath violently taken away an house which he builded not;

20. 20

    כִּיbecauseלֹא־יָדַעhe shall not feelשָׁלֵוquietnessבְּבִטְנוֹin his bellyבַּחֲמוּדוֹof that which he desiredלֹאnotיְמַלֵּט׃he shall not save

    Surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired.

21. 21

    אֵין־שָׂרִידthere is no a survivorלְאׇכְלוֹof his meatעַל־כֵּןthereforeלֹא־יָחִילshall no man look forטוּבוֹ׃his goods

    There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods.

22. 22

    בִּמְלֹאותin the fulness ofשִׂפְקוֹhis sufficiencyיֵצֶרhe shall be in straitsלוֹto himכׇּל־יַדall hand ofעָמֵלof the wickedתְּבֹאֶנּוּ׃shall come upon him

    In the fulness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come upon him.

23. 23

    יְהִיwhen he is aboutלְמַלֵּאto fillבִטְנוֹhis bellyיְשַׁלַּח־בּוֹGod shall cast upon himחֲרוֹןfierceאַפּוֹhis wrathוְיַמְטֵרand shall rain itעָלֵימוֹon themבִּלְחוּמוֹ׃while he is eating

    When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him, and shall rain it upon him while he is eating.

24. 24

    יִבְרַחhe shall fleeמִנֵּשֶׁקfrom a weapon ofבַּרְזֶלironתַּחְלְפֵהוּshall strike him throughקֶשֶׁתa bowנְחוּשָׁה׃of steel

    He shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steel shall strike him through.

25. 25

    שָׁלַףit is drawnוַיֵּצֵאand went outמִגֵּוָהout of the bodyוּבָרָקand the glittering swordמִמְּרֹרָתוֹfrom his gall bladderיַהֲלֹךְcomesעָלָיוupon himאֵמִים׃terrors

    It is drawn, and cometh out of the body; yea, the glittering sword cometh out of his gall: terrors are upon him.

26. 26

    כׇּל־חֹשֶׁךְall darknessטָמוּןis containedלִצְפּוּנָיוin his secret placesתְּאׇכְלֵהוּit will consume himאֵשׁfireלֹא־נֻפָּחnot blownיֵרַעit shall go ill withשָׂרִידhim that is leftבְּאׇהֳלוֹ׃in his tent

    All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: a fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle.

27. 27

    יְגַלּוּthey revealשָׁמַיִםthe heavensעֲוֺנוֹhis iniquityוְאֶרֶץand land ofמִתְקוֹמָמָהshall rise upלוֹ׃to him

    The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him.

28. 28

    יִגֶלshall departיְבוּלthe produce ofבֵּיתוֹhis houseנִגָּרוֹתshall flow awayבְּיוֹםin the day ofאַפּוֹ׃his wrath

    The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.

29. 29

    זֶהthisחֵלֶק־אָדָםthe portion of a manרָשָׁעwickedמֵאֱלֹהִיםby Godוְנַחֲלַתand the inheritance ofאִמְרוֹappointed unto himמֵאֵל׃from God

    This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed unto him by God.
