Job 17 אִיּוֹב פרק י״ז

   רוּחִיmy spiritחֻבָּלָהis corruptיָמַיmy daysנִזְעָכוּare extinctקְבָרִיםthe gravesלִי׃to me

   My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are ready for me.

2. 2

   אִם־לֹאif notהֲתֻלִיםmockersעִמָּדִיwith meוּבְהַמְּרוֹתָםand in their provocationתָּלַןdoes continueעֵינִי׃my eye

   Are there not mockers with me? and doth not mine eye continue in their provocation?

3. 3

   שִׂימָה־נָּאlay down nowעׇרְבֵנִיput me in a suretyעִמָּךְwith youמִיwhoהוּאheלְיָדִיto my handיִתָּקֵעַ׃will strike hands

   Lay down now, put me in a surety with thee; who is he that will strike hands with me?

4. 4

   כִּי־לִבָּםbecause their heartsצָפַנְתָּyou hidמִשָּׂכֶלfrom understandingעַל־כֵּןthereforeלֹאnotתְרֹמֵם׃you will exalt them

   For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not exalt them.

   לְחֵלֶקflatteryיַגִּידhe that speaksרֵעִיםto his friendsוְעֵינֵיeven the eyes ofבָנָיוhis sonsתִּכְלֶנָה׃they will fail

   He that speaketh flattery to his friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.

6. 6

   וְהִצִּיגַנִיand he has made meלִמְשֹׁלa byword ofעַמִּיםpeoplesוְתֹפֶתand as a tabretלְפָנִיםaforetimeאֶהְיֶה׃I may be

   He hath made me also a byword of the people; and aforetime I was as a tabret.

7. 7

   וַתֵּכַהּand it has grown dimמִכַּעַשׂby reason of sorrowעֵינִיmy eyeוִיצֻרַיand my membersכַּצֵּלas a shadowכֻּלָּם׃all of them

   Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow, and all my members are as a shadow.

8. 8

   יָשֹׁמּוּshall be astoniedיְשָׁרִיםupright menעַל־זֹאתupon thisוְנָקִיand an innocent personעַל־חָנֵףupon a hypocriteיִתְעֹרָר׃shall stir up himself

   Upright men shall be astonied at this, and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite.

9. 9

   וְיֹאחֵזshall hold onצַדִּיקrighteousדַּרְכּוֹhis wayוּטְהׇר־יָדַיִםand he that has clean handsיֹסִיףshall be strongerאֹמֶץ׃and stronger

   The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.

    וְאוּלָםneverthelessכֻּלָּםall of themתָּשֻׁבוּdo you returnוּבֹאוּand comeנָאI prayוְלֹא־אֶמְצָאfor I cannot findבָכֶםover youחָכָם׃wise

    But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.

11. 11

    יָמַיmy daysעָבְרוּpassedזִמֹּתַיmy purposesנִתְּקוּare broken offמוֹרָשֵׁיeven the thoughts ofלְבָבִי׃my heart

    My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart.

12. 12

    לַיְלָהnightלְיוֹםto dayיָשִׂימוּthey changeאוֹרlightקָרוֹבis shortמִפְּנֵי־חֹשֶׁךְ׃because of darkness

    They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness.

13. 13

    אִם־אֲקַוֶּהif I waitשְׁאוֹלSheolבֵּיתִיmy houseבַּחֹשֶׁךְin the darknessרִפַּדְתִּיI have spread outיְצוּעָי׃my beds

    If I wait, the grave is mine house: I have made my bed in the darkness.

14. 14

    לַשַּׁחַתto corruptionקָרָאתִיI have saidאָבִיmy fatherאָתָּהyou areאִמִּיmy motherוַאֲחֹתִיand my sisterלָרִמָּה׃to the maggot

    I have said to corruption, Thou art my father: to the worm, Thou art my mother, and my sister.

15. 15

    וְאַיֵּהand where isאֵפוֹnowתִקְוָתִיmy hopeוְתִקְוָתִיand my hopeמִיwhoיְשׁוּרֶנָּה׃shall see it

    And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?

16. 16

    בַּדֵּיthe bars ofשְׁאֹלSheolתֵּרַדְנָהthey shall go downאִם־יַחַדwhen togetherעַל־עָפָרupon the earthנָחַת׃is our rest

    They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.
