Job 16 אִיּוֹב פרק ט״ז

   וַיַּעַןand he answeredאִיּוֹבJobוַיֹּאמַר׃and said

   Then Job answered and said,

   שָׁמַעְתִּיheardכְאֵלֶּהlike these thingsרַבּוֹתmanyמְנַחֲמֵיcomforters ofעָמָלtroubleכֻּלְּכֶם׃all you

   I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.

3. 3

   הֲקֵץshall have an endלְדִבְרֵי־רוּחַvain wordsאוֹorמַה־יַּמְרִיצְךָwhat emboldens youכִּיthatתַעֲנֶה׃that you answer

   Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?

4. 4

   גַּםalsoאָנֹכִיIכָּכֶםas youאֲדַבֵּרָהI will speakלוּifיֵשׁwereנַפְשְׁכֶםyour soulתַּחַתunderנַפְשִׁיmy lifeאַחְבִּירָהI could heap upעֲלֵיכֶםover youבְּמִלִּיםin wordsוְאָנִיעָהand shakeעֲלֵיכֶםover youבְּמוֹwithרֹאשִׁי׃my head

   I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.

   אֲאַמִּצְכֶםI will strengthen youבְּמוֹ־פִיwith my mouthוְנִידand the moving ofשְׂפָתַיmy lipsיַחְשֹׂךְ׃should assuage your grief

   But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.

   אִם־אֲדַבְּרָהif let me speakלֹא־יֵחָשֵׂךְis not assuagedכְּאֵבִיmy painוְאַחְדְּלָהand though I forbearמַה־מִּנִּיwhat am I easedיַהֲלֹךְ׃goes from me

   Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and though I forbear, what am I eased?

   אַךְ־עַתָּהbut nowהֶלְאָנִיhe has made me wearyהֲשִׁמּוֹתָyou have made desolateכׇּל־עֲדָתִי׃all my company

   But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company.

8. 8

   וַתִּקְמְטֵנִיand you have filled me with wrinklesלְעֵדwhich is a witnessהָיָהwasוַיָּקׇםand he aroseבִּיagainst meכַחֲשִׁיmy leannessבְּפָנַיin my faceיַעֲנֶה׃bears witness

   And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.

   אַפּוֹhis wrathטָרַףit has torn meוַיִּשְׂטְמֵנִיwho hates meחָרַקhe has gnashedעָלַיupon meבְּשִׁנָּיוwith his teethצָרִיmy enemyיִלְטֹשׁsharpensעֵינָיוhis eyesלִי׃to me

   He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.

    פָּעֲרוּthey have gapedעָלַיupon meבְּפִיהֶםin their mouthsבְּחֶרְפָּהin scornהִכּוּthey have smittenלְחָיָיupon the cheekיַחַדtogetherעָלַיupon meיִתְמַלָּאוּן׃they have gathered themselves

    They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.

11. 11

    יַסְגִּירֵנִיdelivers up meאֵלGodאֶלtoעֲוִילthe ungodlyוְעַל־יְדֵיand upon the hands ofרְשָׁעִיםwicked menיִרְטֵנִי׃turned me over

    God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.

12. 12

    שָׁלֵוat easeהָיִיתִיI wasוַיְפַרְפְּרֵנִיbut he has broken me asunderוְאָחַזand he took holdבְּעׇרְפִּיon my neckוַיְפַצְפְּצֵנִיand he shattered meוַיְקִימֵנִיand he set up meלוֹto himלְמַטָּרָה׃to a target

    I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.

13. 13

    יָסֹבּוּthey surroundעָלַיupon meרַבָּיוhis archersיְפַלַּחhe splits openכִּלְיוֹתַיmy kidneysוְלֹאand notיַחְמֹלdoes not spareיִשְׁפֹּךְhe shall pour outלָאָרֶץto the groundמְרֵרָתִי׃my gall

    His archers compass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.

14. 14

    יִפְרְצֵנִיhe breaks through meפֶרֶץwith breachעַל־פְּנֵי־פָרֶץupon breachיָרֻץhe runsעָלַיupon meכְּגִבּוֹר׃like a giant

    He breaketh me with breach upon breach, he runneth upon me like a giant.

15. 15

    שַׂקsackclothתָּפַרְתִּיI have sewedעֲלֵיonגִלְדִּיmy skinוְעֹלַלְתִּיand defiledבֶעָפָרin the dustקַרְנִי׃my horn

    I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust.

16. 16

    פָּנַיmy face[חֳמַרְמְרוּ]they are in turmoilמִנִּי־בֶכִיwith weepingוְעַלand uponעַפְעַפַּיmy eyelidsצַלְמָוֶת׃the shadow of death

    My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;

17. 17

    עַלnot forלֹא־חָמָסnot violenceבְּכַפָּיin my handsוּתְפִלָּתִיand my prayerזַכָּה׃pure

    Not for any injustice in mine hands: also my prayer is pure.

18. 18

    אֶרֶץthe land ofאַל־תְּכַסִּיcover notדָמִיmy bloodוְאַל־יְהִיand do not let this beמָקוֹםa placeלְזַעֲקָתִי׃to my outcry

    O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.

19. 19

    גַּם־עַתָּהalso nowהִנֵּה־בַשָּׁמַיִםbehold in heavenעֵדִיmy witnessוְשָׂהֲדִיand my recordבַּמְּרֹמִים׃in the high places

    Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high.

20. 20

    מְלִיצַיscorn meרֵעָיmy friendsאֶל־אֱלוֹהַּto Godדָּלְפָהpours out tearsעֵינִי׃my eye

    My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God.

21. 21

    וְיוֹכַחoh that one might pleadלְגֶבֶרto a manעִם־אֱלוֹהַּwith Godוּבֶן־אָדָםand the son of manלְרֵעֵהוּ׃to his neighbor

    O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour!

22. 22

    כִּי־שְׁנוֹתbecause the years ofמִסְפָּרnumberיֶאֱתָיוּthey will comeוְאֹרַחthen the wayלֹא־אָשׁוּבnot I returnאֶהֱלֹךְ׃I shall go

    When a few years are come, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.
