Job 14 אִיּוֹב פרק י״ד

1. 1

   אָדָםmanיְלוּדborn ofאִשָּׁהa womanקְצַרis of fewיָמִיםdaysוּשְׂבַע־רֹגֶז׃and full of trouble

   Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.

2. 2

   כְּצִיץlike a flowerיָצָאhe went forthוַיִּמָּלand is cut downוַיִּבְרַחand he fledכַּצֵּלas a shadowוְלֹאand notיַעֲמוֹד׃continues

   He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.

   אַף־עַל־זֶהyea upon thisפָּקַחְתָּdo you openעֵינֶךָyour eyesוְאֹתִיand meתָבִיאyou will bringבְמִשְׁפָּטin judgmentעִמָּךְ׃with you

   And dost thou open thine eyes upon such an one, and bringest me into judgment with thee?

   מִי־יִתֵּןwho can bringטָהוֹרcleanמִטָּמֵאfrom an unclean thingלֹאnotאֶחָד׃one

   Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.

5. 5

   אִם־חֲרוּצִיםseeing are determinedיָמָיוhis daysמִסְפַּר־חֳדָשָׁיוthe number of his monthsאִתָּךְwith youחֻקָּוhis boundsעָשִׂיתָyou didוְלֹאand notיַעֲבֹר׃he cannot pass

   Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;

   שְׁעֵהturnמֵעָלָיוfrom with himוְיֶחְדָּלthat he may restעַד־יִרְצֶהtill he shall accomplishכְּשָׂכִירlike a hired laborerיוֹמוֹ׃his day

   Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hireling, his day.

   כִּיforיֵשׁthere isלָעֵץunto the treeתִּקְוָהhopeאִם־יִכָּרֵתif it be cut downוְעוֹדand againיַחֲלִיףit will sproutוְיֹנַקְתּוֹand the tender branch thereofלֹאnotתֶחְדָּל׃shall not cease

   For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

   אִם־יַזְקִיןif it will grow oldבָּאָרֶץin the landשׇׁרְשׁוֹthe root thereofוּבֶעָפָרand in the dustיָמוּתhe shall dieגִּזְעוֹ׃the stock thereof

   Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;

   מֵרֵיחַfrom the scent ofמַיִםwaterיַפְרִחַit will budוְעָשָׂהand bring forthקָצִירboughsכְּמוֹ־נָטַע׃like a plant

   Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

10. 10

    וְגֶבֶרand a manיָמוּתhe shall dieוַיֶּחֱלָשׁand wastes awayוַיִּגְוַעand he gave up the ghostאָדָםmanוְאַיּוֹ׃and where is he

    But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?

11. 11

    אָזְלוּ־מַיִםthe waters failמִנִּי־יָםfrom the seaוְנָהָרand a riverיֶחֱרַבdecaysוְיָבֵשׁ׃and it is dry

    As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:

12. 12

    וְאִישׁand a manשָׁכַבlayוְלֹא־יָקוּםand not he shall riseעַד־בִּלְתִּיtill be no moreשָׁמַיִםthe heavensלֹאnotיָקִיצוּthey shall awakenוְלֹא־יֵעֹרוּand not they will be rousedמִשְּׁנָתָם׃from their sleep

    So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

13. 13

    מִיwhoיִתֵּןthat you wouldבִּשְׁאוֹלin Sheolתַּצְפִּנֵנִיyou will hide meתַּסְתִּירֵנִיyou will conceal meעַד־שׁוּבuntil be pastאַפֶּךָyour wrathתָּשִׁית־לִיyou will set to meחֹקan appointed timeוְתִזְכְּרֵנִי׃and you will remember me

    O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!

14. 14

    אִם־יָמוּתif he shall dieגֶּבֶרa manהֲיִחְיֶהwill he liveכׇּל־יְמֵיall days ofצְבָאִיmy appointed timeאֲיַחֵלI will waitעַד־בּוֹאuntil the coming ofחֲלִיפָתִי׃my change

    If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

15. 15

    תִּקְרָאyou callוְאָנֹכִיyet IאֶעֱנֶךָּI will answer youלְמַעֲשֵׂהunto the work ofיָדֶיךָyour handsתִכְסֹף׃you will have a desire

    Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.

16. 16

    כִּי־עַתָּהbecause nowצְעָדַיmy stepsתִּסְפּוֹרyou will countלֹא־תִשְׁמֹרdo you not watchעַל־חַטָּאתִי׃over my sin

    For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin?

17. 17

    חָתֻםsealed upבִּצְרוֹרin the bundle ofפִּשְׁעִיmy transgressionוַתִּטְפֹּלand you sew upעַל־עֲוֺנִי׃my iniquity

    My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up mine iniquity.

18. 18

    וְאוּלָםneverthelessהַר־נוֹפֵלthe mountain fallingיִבּוֹלcomes to noughtוְצוּרand the rock ofיֶעְתַּקis removedמִמְּקֹמוֹ׃from his place

    And surely the mountain falling cometh to nought, and the rock is removed out of his place.

19. 19

    אֲבָנִיםstonesשָׁחֲקוּwearמַיִםwaterתִּשְׁטֹף־סְפִיחֶיהָyou wash away the things which growעֲפַר־אָרֶץthe dust of the earthוְתִקְוַתand hope ofאֱנוֹשׁmanהֶאֱבַדְתָּ׃you destroy

    The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.

20. 20

    תִּתְקְפֵהוּyou overpower himלָנֶצַחforeverוַיַּהֲלֹךְand he passesמְשַׁנֶּהyou changeפָנָיוhis faceוַתְּשַׁלְּחֵהוּ׃and you sent away him

    Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.

21. 21

    יִכְבְּדוּthey are honoredבָנָיוhis sonsוְלֹאand notיֵדָעhe knows it notוְיִצְעֲרוּand they are brought lowוְלֹא־יָבִיןand not understandלָמוֹ׃for them

    His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them.

22. 22

    אַךְ־בְּשָׂרוֹbut his fleshעָלָיוupon himיִכְאָבshall have painוְנַפְשׁוֹand his soulעָלָיוupon himתֶּאֱבָל׃it mourns

    But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.
