   O ye children of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Beth-haccerem: for evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction.

   הַנָּוָהhan/na/VAthe comelyוְהַמְּעֻנָּגָהve/ham/me/un/na/GAand delicate oneדָּמִיתִיda/MI/tiI have likenedבַּת־צִיּוֹן׃bat-Tsiy/YONthe daughter of Zion

   I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman.

   אֵלֶיהָe/LE/hato herיָבֹאוּya/VO/uwill comeרֹעִיםro/IMshepherdsוְעֶדְרֵיהֶםve/ed/re/HEMand their flocksתָּקְעוּta/ke/Uthey will pitchעָלֶיהָa/LE/haagainst herאֹהָלִיםo/ha/LIMtentsסָבִיבsa/VIVall aroundרָעוּra/Uthey will feedאִישׁisheachאֶת־יָדוֹ׃et-ya/DOin his place

   The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place.

   Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for the day goeth away, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.

   קוּמוּKU/muariseוְנַעֲלֶהve/na/a/LEand let us go upבַלָּיְלָהval/LAY/lain the nightוְנַשְׁחִיתָהve/nash/CHI/taand let us destroyאַרְמְנוֹתֶיהָ׃ar/me/no/TE/haits palaces

   Arise, and let us go by night, and let us destroy her palaces.

   כִּיkiforכֹהkhothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsכִּרְתוּkir/TUhew downעֵצָהֿe/TSAher treesוְשִׁפְכוּve/shif/KHUand cast upעַל־יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםal-Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimagainst Jerusalemסֹלְלָהsol/LAa siege moundהִיאhithis isהָעִירha/IRthe cityהׇפְקַדhof/KADto be punishedכֻּלָּהּkul/LAshe is whollyעֹשֶׁקO/shekoppressionבְּקִרְבָּהּ׃be/kir/BAin her midst

   For thus hath the LORD of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and cast a mount against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her.

   As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and spoil is heard in her; before me continually is grief and wounds.

   Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited.

   כֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsעוֹלֵלo/LELgleanיְעוֹלְלוּye/ol/LUthey will gleanכַגֶּפֶןkhag/GE/fenlike the vineשְׁאֵרִיתshe/e/RITthe remnant ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelהָשֵׁבha/SHEVturn backיָדְךָya/de/KHAyour handכְּבוֹצֵרke/vo/TSERlike a grape gathererעַל־סַלְסִלּוֹת׃al-sal/sil/LOTinto the baskets

   Thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall throughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.

    עַל־מִיal-mito whomאֲדַבְּרָהa/dab/be/RAshall I speakוְאָעִידָהve/a/I/daand give warningוְיִשְׁמָעוּve/yish/MA/uthat they may hearהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdעֲרֵלָהa/re/LAuncircumcised isאׇזְנָםoz/NAMtheir earוְלֹאve/LOand notיוּכְלוּyukh/LUthey cannotלְהַקְשִׁיבle/hak/SHIVlistenהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdדְבַר־יְהֹוָהde/VAR-Adonaithe word of the LORDהָיָהha/YAhas becomeלָהֶםla/HEMto themלְחֶרְפָּהle/cher/PAa reproachלֹאlonoיַחְפְּצוּ־בוֹ׃yach/pe/TSU-vothey take delight in it

    To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

    וְאֵתve/ETbutחֲמַתcha/MATthe wrath ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDמָלֵאתִיma/LE/tiI am full ofנִלְאֵיתִיnil/E/tiI am weary ofהָכִילha/KHILholding it inשְׁפֹךְshe/FOKHpour it outעַל־עוֹלָלal-o/LALon the childrenבַּחוּץba/CHUTSin the streetוְעַלve/ALand onסוֹדsodthe assembly ofבַּחוּרִיםba/chu/RIMyoung menיַחְדָּוyach/DAVtogetherכִּי־גַם־אִישׁki-gam-ishfor both the husbandעִם־אִשָּׁהim-ish/SHAwith the wifeיִלָּכֵדוּyil/la/KHE/duwill be takenזָקֵןza/KENthe oldעִם־מְלֵאim-me/LEwith him that is full ofיָמִים׃ya/MIMdays

    Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD; I am weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.

    וְנָסַבּוּve/na/SAB/buand will be turned overבָתֵּיהֶםvat/te/HEMtheir housesלַאֲחֵרִיםla/a/che/RIMto othersשָׂדוֹתsa/DOTfieldsוְנָשִׁיםve/na/SHIMand wivesיַחְדָּוyach/DAVtogetherכִּי־אַטֶּהki-at/TEfor I will stretch outאֶת־יָדִיet-ya/DImy handעַל־יֹשְׁבֵיal-yosh/VEagainst the inhabitants ofהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landנְאֻם־יְהֹוָה׃ne/UM-Adonaisays the LORD

    And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.

13. 13

    כִּיkiforמִקְּטַנָּםmik/ke/tan/NAMfrom the least of themוְעַד־גְּדוֹלָםve/AD-ge/do/LAMto the greatest of themכֻּלּוֹkul/LOeveryoneבּוֹצֵעַbo/TSE/ais greedy forבָּצַעBA/tsagainוּמִנָּבִיאu/min/na/VIand from the prophetוְעַד־כֹּהֵןve/AD-ko/HENto the priestכֻּלּוֹkul/LOeveryoneעֹשֶׂהo/SEdealsשָּׁקֶר׃SHA/kerfalsehood

    For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.

14. 14

    וַיְרַפְּאוּvay/rap/pe/Uthey have healedאֶת־שֶׁבֶרet-SHE/verthe wound ofעַמִּיam/MImy peopleעַל־נְקַלָּהal-ne/kal/LAlightlyלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMpeaceשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMpeaceוְאֵיןve/ENand there is noשָׁלוֹם׃sha/LOMpeace

    They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.

15. 15

    הֹבִישׁוּho/VI/shuwere they ashamedכִּיkiwhenתוֹעֵבָהto/e/VAabominationעָשׂוּa/SUthey committedגַּם־בּוֹשׁgam-bosheven be ashamedלֹא־יֵבוֹשׁוּlo-ye/VO/shuthey were not ashamedגַּם־הַכְלִיםgam-hakh/LIMnor to blushלֹאlonotיָדָעוּya/DA/udid they knowלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeיִפְּלוּyip/pe/LUthey will fallבַנֹּפְלִיםvan/nof/LIMamong those who fallבְּעֵת־פְּקַדְתִּיםbe/ET-pe/kad/TIMat the time I punish themיִכָּשְׁלוּyik/ka/she/LUthey will stumbleאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.

16. 16

    כֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDעִמְדוּim/DUstandעַל־דְּרָכִיםal-de/ra/KHIMby the waysוּרְאוּu/re/Uand seeוְשַׁאֲלוּve/sha/a/LUand askלִנְתִבוֹתlin/ti/VOTfor the paths ofעוֹלָםo/LAMoldאֵי־זֶהe-zewhere isדֶרֶךְDE/rekhthe wayהַטּוֹבhat/TOVgoodוּלְכוּ־בָהּu/le/KHU-vaand walk in itוּמִצְאוּu/mits/Uand you will findמַרְגּוֹעַmar/GO/arestלְנַפְשְׁכֶםle/naf/she/KHEMfor your soulsוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidלֹאlonotנֵלֵךְ׃ne/LEKHwill we walk

    Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

17. 17

    וַהֲקִמֹתִיva/ha/ki/mo/TIand I setעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMover youצֹפִיםtso/FIMwatchmenהַקְשִׁיבוּhak/SHI/vulisten toלְקוֹלle/KOLthe voice ofשׁוֹפָרsho/FARthe trumpetוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidלֹאlonotנַקְשִׁיב׃nak/SHIVwill we listen

    Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.

18. 18

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeשִׁמְעוּshim/Uhearהַגּוֹיִםhag/go/YIMthe nationsוּדְעִיu/de/Iand knowעֵדָהe/DAO congregationאֶת־אֲשֶׁר־בָּם׃et-a/SHER-bamwhat is among them

    Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is among them.

19. 19

    שִׁמְעִיshim/Ihearהָאָרֶץha/A/retsO earthהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIמֵבִיאme/VIwill bringרָעָהra/Aevilאֶל־הָעָםel-ha/AMto the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisפְּרִיpe/RIthe fruit ofמַחְשְׁבוֹתָםmach/she/vo/TAMtheir thoughtsכִּיkibecauseעַל־דְּבָרַיal-de/va/RAYto my wordsלֹאlonotהִקְשִׁיבוּhik/SHI/vuthey have listenedוְתוֹרָתִיve/to/ra/TIand my lawוַיִּמְאֲסוּ־בָהּ׃vay/yim/a/SU-vathey have rejected it

    Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.

20. 20

    לָמָּה־זֶּהLAM/ma-zeto what purposeלִיlito meלְבוֹנָהle/vo/NAfrankincenseמִשְּׁבָאmish/She/VAfrom Shebaתָבוֹאta/VOcomesוְקָנֶהve/ka/NEand caneהַטּוֹבhat/TOVsweetמֵאֶרֶץme/E/retsfrom a landמֶרְחָקmer/CHAKfarעֹלוֹתֵיכֶםo/lo/te/KHEMyour burnt offeringsלֹאloare notלְרָצוֹןle/ra/TSONacceptableוְזִבְחֵיכֶםve/ziv/che/KHEMand your sacrificesלֹא־עָרְבוּlo-AR/vuare not sweetלִי׃lito me

    To what purpose cometh there to me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.

21. 21

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeכֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהִנְנִיhin/NIbehold Iנֹתֵןno/TENwill layאֶל־הָעָםel-ha/AMbefore the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisמִכְשֹׁלִיםmikh/sho/LIMstumbling blocksוְכָשְׁלוּve/kha/she/LUand will stumbleבָםvamin themאָבוֹתa/VOTthe fathersוּבָנִיםu/va/NIMand the sonsיַחְדָּוyach/DAVtogetherשָׁכֵןsha/KHENthe neighborוְרֵעוֹve/re/Oand his friend(יאבדו)yvadav[וְאָבָדוּ]׃ve/a/VA/duand they will perish

    Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.

22. 22

    כֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdעַםama peopleבָּאbais comingמֵאֶרֶץme/E/retsfrom the land ofצָפוֹןtsa/FONthe northוְגוֹיve/GOYand a nationגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatיֵעוֹרye/ORwill be stirred upמִיַּרְכְּתֵי־אָרֶץ׃miy/yar/ke/TE-A/retsfrom the innermost parts of the earth

    Thus saith the LORD, Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.

23. 23

    קֶשֶׁתKE/sheta bowוְכִידוֹןve/khi/DONand spearיַחֲזִיקוּya/cha/ZI/kuthey lay hold onאַכְזָרִיakh/za/RIcruelהוּאhuthey areוְלֹאve/LOand notיְרַחֵמוּye/ra/CHE/muhave mercyקוֹלָםko/LAMtheir voiceכַּיָּםkay/YAMlike the seaיֶהֱמֶהye/he/MEroarsוְעַל־סוּסִיםve/AL-su/SIMand upon horsesיִרְכָּבוּyir/KA/vuthey rideעָרוּךְa/RUKHset in arrayכְּאִישׁke/ISHas menלַמִּלְחָמָהlam/mil/cha/MAfor battleעָלַיִךְa/LA/yikhagainst youבַּת־צִיּוֹן׃bat-Tsiy/YONO daughter of Zion

    They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea; and they ride upon horses, set in array as men for war against thee, O daughter of Zion.

    שָׁמַעְנוּsha/MA/nuwe heardאֶת־שׇׁמְעוֹet-shom/Othe report of itרָפוּra/FUgrow feebleיָדֵינוּya/DE/nuour handsצָרָהtsa/RAanguishהֶחֱזִקַתְנוּhe/che/zi/KAT/nuhas taken hold of usחִילchilpainכַּיּוֹלֵדָה׃kay/yo/le/DAas of a woman in labor

    We have heard the fame thereof: our hands wax feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, and pain, as of a woman in travail.

25. 25

    אַל־[תֵּצְאוּ]al-tets/Udo not go out(תצאי)tatsyהַשָּׂדֶהhas/sa/DEinto the fieldוּבַדֶּרֶךְu/vad/DE/rekhand by the wayאַל־[תֵּלֵכוּ]al-te/LE/khudo not walk(תלכי)talakhayכִּיkiforחֶרֶבCHE/revthe sword ofלְאֹיֵבle/o/YEVof the enemyמָגוֹרma/GORterror isמִסָּבִיב׃mis/sa/VIVall around

    Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and fear is on every side.

26. 26

    בַּת־עַמִּיbat-am/MIO daughter of my peopleחִגְרִי־שָׂקchig/RI-sakgird on sackclothוְהִתְפַּלְּשִׁיve/hit/pal/le/SHIand rollבָאֵפֶרva/E/ferin ashesאֵבֶלE/velmourning forיָחִידya/CHIDan only sonעֲשִׂיa/SImakeלָךְlakhfor yourselfמִסְפַּדmis/PADa lamentation ofתַּמְרוּרִיםtam/ru/RIMbitternessכִּיkiforפִתְאֹםfit/OMsuddenlyיָבֹאya/VOshall comeהַשֹּׁדֵדhash/sho/DEDthe destroyerעָלֵינוּ׃a/LE/nuon us

    O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation: for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us.

27. 27

    בָּחוֹןba/CHONan assayerנְתַתִּיךָne/tat/TI/khaI have made youבְעַמִּיve/am/MIin my peopleמִבְצָרmiv/TSARa fortressוְתֵדַעve/te/DAthat you may knowוּבָחַנְתָּu/va/chan/TAand you will testאֶת־דַּרְכָּם׃et-dar/KAMtheir way

    I have set thee for a tower and a fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their way.

28. 28

    כֻּלָּםkul/LAMall of themסָרֵיsa/REare grievousסוֹרְרִיםsor/RIMrebelsהֹלְכֵיhol/KHEgoing about withרָכִילra/KHILslanderנְחֹשֶׁתne/CHO/shetbronzeוּבַרְזֶלu/var/ZELand ironכֻּלָּםkul/LAMall of themמַשְׁחִיתִיםmash/chi/TIMdeal corruptlyהֵמָּה׃HEM/mathey

    They are all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters.

29. 29

    נָחַרna/CHARblow fiercelyמַפֻּחַmap/PU/achthe bellows(מאשתם)mshatam[מֵאֵשׁme/ESHby the fireתַּם]tamconsumedעֹפָרֶתo/FA/retthe lead isלַשָּׁוְאlash/SHAVin vainצָרַףtsa/RAFrefinesצָרוֹףtsa/ROFrefineוְרָעִיםve/ra/IMfor the wickedלֹאloare notנִתָּקוּ׃nit/TA/kudrawn off

    The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melteth in vain: for the wicked are not plucked away.

30. 30

    כֶּסֶףKE/sefsilverנִמְאָסnim/ASrejectedקָרְאוּka/re/Uthey will callלָהֶםla/HEMthemכִּי־מָאַסki-ma/ASfor has rejectedיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבָּהֶם׃ba/HEMthem

    Reprobate silver shall men call them, because the LORD hath rejected them.
