Jeremiah 6 יִרְמְיָהוּ פרק ו׳

1. 1

   הָעִזוּflee for refugeבְּנֵיthe sons ofבִנְיָמִןBenjaminמִקֶּרֶבfrom the midst ofיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםJerusalemוּבִתְקוֹעַand in Tekoaתִּקְעוּblowשׁוֹפָרa ram's hornוְעַל־בֵּיתand upon Beth-הַכֶּרֶםhacceremשְׂאוּlift upמַשְׂאֵתa beaconכִּיbecauseרָעָהevilנִשְׁקְפָהshe looked downמִצָּפוֹןfrom the northוְשֶׁבֶרand destructionגָּדוֹל׃great

   O ye children of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Beth-haccerem: for evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction.

2. 2

   הַנָּוָהthe beautiful oneוְהַמְּעֻנָּגָהand the dainty oneדָּמִיתִיI am likeבַּת־צִיּוֹן׃the daughter of Zion

   I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman.

3. 3

   אֵלֶיהָto herיָבֹאוּcomeרֹעִיםpasturingוְעֶדְרֵיהֶםand their flocksתָּקְעוּthey shall pitchעָלֶיהָupon itאֹהָלִיםtentsסָבִיבall aroundרָעוּthey will grazeאִישׁeach oneאֶת־יָדוֹ׃his place

   The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place.

4. 4

   קַדְּשׁוּconsecrateעָלֶיהָupon itמִלְחָמָהwarקוּמוּariseוְנַעֲלֶהand let us go upבַצׇּהֳרָיִםat the noonאוֹיwoe beלָנוּto usכִּי־פָנָהbecause it has turnedהַיּוֹםthe dayכִּיbecauseיִנָּטוּthey are stretched outצִלְלֵי־עָרֶב׃the shadows of evening

   Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for the day goeth away, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.

   קוּמוּariseוְנַעֲלֶהand let us go upבַלָּיְלָהin the nightוְנַשְׁחִיתָהand let us destroyאַרְמְנוֹתֶיהָ׃its palaces

   Arise, and let us go by night, and let us destroy her palaces.

6. 6

   כִּיforכֹהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹתof Hostsכִּרְתוּhew downעֵצָהֿtreesוְשִׁפְכוּand pour outעַל־יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםupon Jerusalemסֹלְלָהa moundהִיאit isהָעִירthe cityהׇפְקַדto be punishedכֻּלָּהּall of itעֹשֶׁקoppressionבְּקִרְבָּהּ׃in her midst

   For thus hath the LORD of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and cast a mount against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her.

7. 7

   כְּהָקִירas keeps cool(בור)[בַּיִר]a wellמֵימֶיהָits waterכֵּןthusהֵקֵרָהit has kept coolרָעָתָהּits evilחָמָסviolenceוָשֹׁדand havocיִשָּׁמַעit will be heardבָּהּin itעַל־פָּנַיbefore meתָּמִידcontinuallyחֳלִיsicknessוּמַכָּה׃and wounds

   As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and spoil is heard in her; before me continually is grief and wounds.

8. 8

   הִוָּסְרִיlet yourself be instructedיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםJerusalemפֶּן־תֵּקַעlest it should be alienatedנַפְשִׁיmy soulמִמֵּךְfrom youפֶּן־אֲשִׂימֵךְlest I should make youשְׁמָמָהdesolateאֶרֶץthe land ofלוֹאnotנוֹשָׁבָה׃it is inhabited

   Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited.

9. 9

   כֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹתof Hostsעוֹלֵלthoroughlyיְעוֹלְלוּthey will gleanכַגֶּפֶןlike the vineשְׁאֵרִיתremnant ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelהָשֵׁבturn backיָדְךָyour handכְּבוֹצֵרlike a grape gathererעַל־סַלְסִלּוֹת׃into the baskets

   Thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall throughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.

10. 10

    עַל־מִיto whomאֲדַבְּרָהlet me speakוְאָעִידָהand testifyוְיִשְׁמָעוּand they may listenהִנֵּהbeholdעֲרֵלָהis uncircumcisedאׇזְנָםtheir earוְלֹאand notיוּכְלוּcould theyלְהַקְשִׁיבto give heedהִנֵּהbeholdדְבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDהָיָהwasלָהֶםto themלְחֶרְפָּהfor reproachלֹאnotיַחְפְּצוּ־בוֹ׃shall they delight in it

    To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

11. 11

    וְאֵתandחֲמַתthe wrath ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDמָלֵאתִיI am full ofנִלְאֵיתִיI am wearyהָכִילto hold it inשְׁפֹךְpour outעַל־עוֹלָלupon childrenבַּחוּץabroadוְעַלand uponסוֹדcounsels ofבַּחוּרִיםyoung menיַחְדָּוtogetherכִּי־גַם־אִישׁbecause even the manעִם־אִשָּׁהwith a womanיִלָּכֵדוּthey are caughtזָקֵןoldעִם־מְלֵאwith him that is full ofיָמִים׃days

    Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD; I am weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.

12. 12

    וְנָסַבּוּand they will surroundבָתֵּיהֶםtheir housesלַאֲחֵרִיםto othersשָׂדוֹתfieldsוְנָשִׁיםand womenיַחְדָּוtogetherכִּי־אַטֶּהbecause I will inclineאֶת־יָדִיmy handעַל־יֹשְׁבֵיupon inhabitants ofהָאָרֶץthe landנְאֻם־יְהֹוָה׃says the LORD

    And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.

13. 13

    כִּיbecauseמִקְּטַנָּםfrom their littleוְעַד־גְּדוֹלָםand unto their greatכֻּלּוֹentirelyבּוֹצֵעַone who gains unjustlyבָּצַעunjust gainוּמִנָּבִיאand from prophetוְעַד־כֹּהֵןand unto a priestכֻּלּוֹentirelyעֹשֶׂהdealsשָּׁקֶר׃falsehood

    For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.

14. 14

    וַיְרַפְּאוּand they have healedאֶת־שֶׁבֶרthe hurt ofעַמִּיmy peopleעַל־נְקַלָּהslightlyלֵאמֹרsayingשָׁלוֹםpeaceשָׁלוֹםpeaceוְאֵיןand there is noשָׁלוֹם׃peace

    They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.

15. 15

    הֹבִישׁוּthey have been put to shameכִּיthatתוֹעֵבָהabominableעָשׂוּthey didגַּם־בּוֹשׁalso were ashamedלֹא־יֵבוֹשׁוּnot be confoundedגַּם־הַכְלִיםalso to exhibit shameלֹאnotיָדָעוּthey knowלָכֵןthereforeיִפְּלוּshall fallבַנֹּפְלִיםamong the ones who fallבְּעֵת־פְּקַדְתִּיםin time when I have visited themיִכָּשְׁלוּthey might stumbleאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

    Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.

16. 16

    כֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDעִמְדוּstandעַל־דְּרָכִיםupon the waysוּרְאוּand seeוְשַׁאֲלוּand askלִנְתִבוֹתfor the pathsעוֹלָםof oldאֵי־זֶהwhere thisדֶרֶךְthe wayהַטּוֹבthe goodוּלְכוּ־בָהּand walk in itוּמִצְאוּand findמַרְגּוֹעַrestלְנַפְשְׁכֶםfor your soulsוַיֹּאמְרוּand they saidלֹאnotנֵלֵךְ׃we should go

    Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

17. 17

    וַהֲקִמֹתִיand I will establishעֲלֵיכֶםover youצֹפִיםwatchmenהַקְשִׁיבוּhearkenלְקוֹלthe voice ofשׁוֹפָרa ram's hornוַיֹּאמְרוּand they saidלֹאnotנַקְשִׁיב׃we will pay attention

    Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.

18. 18

    לָכֵןthereforeשִׁמְעוּhearהַגּוֹיִםthe nationsוּדְעִיand knowעֵדָהcongregationאֶת־אֲשֶׁר־בָּם׃that which in them

    Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is among them.

19. 19

    שִׁמְעִיhearהָאָרֶץO earthהִנֵּהbeholdאָנֹכִיIמֵבִיאbringsרָעָהevilאֶל־הָעָםto the peopleהַזֶּהthisפְּרִיfruitמַחְשְׁבוֹתָםtheir own schemesכִּיbecauseעַל־דְּבָרַיupon my wordsלֹאnotהִקְשִׁיבוּhearken untoוְתוֹרָתִיand my instructionוַיִּמְאֲסוּ־בָהּ׃and rejected in her

    Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.

20. 20

    לָמָּה־זֶּהwhy thisלִיto meלְבוֹנָהfrankincenseמִשְּׁבָאfrom Shebaתָבוֹאcomeוְקָנֶהand the caneהַטּוֹבthe goodמֵאֶרֶץfrom the land ofמֶרְחָקfarעֹלוֹתֵיכֶםyour burnt offeringsלֹאnotלְרָצוֹןfor acceptanceוְזִבְחֵיכֶםand your sacrificesלֹא־עָרְבוּnot are they sweetלִי׃to me

    To what purpose cometh there to me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.

21. 21

    לָכֵןthereforeכֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDהִנְנִיbehold Iנֹתֵןgivingאֶל־הָעָםto the peopleהַזֶּהthisמִכְשֹׁלִיםstumbling blocksוְכָשְׁלוּand shall stumbleבָםin themאָבוֹתthe fathersוּבָנִיםand sonsיַחְדָּוtogetherשָׁכֵןhe dwellsוְרֵעוֹand his friend(יאבדו)[וְאָבָדוּ]׃and they will perish

    Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.

22. 22

    כֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDהִנֵּהbeholdעַםpeopleבָּאcameמֵאֶרֶץfrom the land ofצָפוֹןthe northוְגוֹיand nationגָּדוֹלgreatיֵעוֹרit will be rousedמִיַּרְכְּתֵי־אָרֶץ׃from the innermost parts of the earth

    Thus saith the LORD, Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.

23. 23

    קֶשֶׁתa bowוְכִידוֹןand javelinיַחֲזִיקוּthey hold outאַכְזָרִיcruelהוּאheוְלֹאand notיְרַחֵמוּshall they have pity onקוֹלָםtheir voicesכַּיָּםare like the seaיֶהֱמֶהwhich it roarsוְעַל־סוּסִיםand upon horsesיִרְכָּבוּthey rideעָרוּךְis arrangedכְּאִישׁas a manלַמִּלְחָמָהto the warעָלַיִךְupon youבַּת־צִיּוֹן׃the daughter of Zion

    They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea; and they ride upon horses, set in array as men for war against thee, O daughter of Zion.

24. 24

    שָׁמַעְנוּwe heardאֶת־שׇׁמְעוֹhis hearingרָפוּweakened areיָדֵינוּour handsצָרָהafflictionהֶחֱזִקַתְנוּhas taken hold of usחִילanguishכַּיּוֹלֵדָה׃as the woman in travail

    We have heard the fame thereof: our hands wax feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, and pain, as of a woman in travail.

25. 25

    אַל־[תֵּצְאוּ]do not you shall go out(תצאי)הַשָּׂדֶהthe fieldוּבַדֶּרֶךְand after the mannerאַל־[תֵּלֵכוּ]do not you will go(תלכי)כִּיforחֶרֶבthe sword ofלְאֹיֵבto the enemyמָגוֹרterrorמִסָּבִיב׃all around

    Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and fear is on every side.

26. 26

    בַּת־עַמִּיdaughter of my peopleחִגְרִי־שָׂקgird yourself sackclothוְהִתְפַּלְּשִׁיand rollבָאֵפֶרin ashesאֵבֶלa great mourningיָחִידam solitaryעֲשִׂיdoלָךְto youמִסְפַּדwailing ofתַּמְרוּרִיםbitternessכִּיbecauseפִתְאֹםsuddenlyיָבֹאshall comeהַשֹּׁדֵדthe destroyerעָלֵינוּ׃over us

    O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation: for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us.

27. 27

    בָּחוֹןan assayerנְתַתִּיךָI give youבְעַמִּיin my peopleמִבְצָרfortificationוְתֵדַעso you may observeוּבָחַנְתָּand you will testאֶת־דַּרְכָּם׃their journey

    I have set thee for a tower and a fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their way.

28. 28

    כֻּלָּםall of themסָרֵיthose who turn aside ofסוֹרְרִיםrebellious peopleהֹלְכֵיthose who go about ofרָכִילa slandererנְחֹשֶׁתbrassוּבַרְזֶלand ironכֻּלָּםall of themמַשְׁחִיתִיםwere destroyingהֵמָּה׃they

    They are all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters.

29. 29

    נָחַרit puffsמַפֻּחַthe bellows(מאשתם)[מֵאֵשׁfrom a fireתַּם]the endעֹפָרֶתleadלַשָּׁוְאin vainצָרַףhe refinedצָרוֹףsteadfastlyוְרָעִיםand displeasingלֹאnotנִתָּקוּ׃they have been separated

    The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melteth in vain: for the wicked are not plucked away.

30. 30

    כֶּסֶףmoneyנִמְאָסa rejected personקָרְאוּcalled uponלָהֶםto themכִּי־מָאַסbecause has refusedיְהֹוָהthe LORDבָּהֶם׃in them

    Reprobate silver shall men call them, because the LORD hath rejected them.
