    וַיִּגְּשׁוּand they approachedכׇּל־שָׂרֵיall captains ofהַחֲיָלִיםthe armiesוְיוֹחָנָןand Johananבֶּן־קָרֵחַson of Kareahוִיזַנְיָהand Jezaniahבֶּן־הוֹשַׁעְיָהson of Hoshaiahוְכׇל־הָעָםand all the peopleמִקָּטֹןfrom smallוְעַד־גָּדוֹל׃and unto great

    Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,

    וַיֹּאמְרוּand they saidאֶל־יִרְמְיָהוּto Jeremiahהַנָּבִיאthe prophetתִּפׇּל־נָאlet fall I prayתְחִנָּתֵנוּour supplicationלְפָנֶיךָbefore youוְהִתְפַּלֵּלand prayבַּעֲדֵנוּfor usאֶל־יְהֹוָהto the LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godבְּעַדthroughכׇּל־הַשְּׁאֵרִיתall the remnantהַזֹּאתthisכִּי־נִשְׁאַרְנוּbecause we had remainedמְעַטa fewמֵהַרְבֵּהfrom manyכַּאֲשֶׁרasעֵינֶיךָyour eyesרֹאוֹתare seeingאֹתָנוּ׃us

    And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)

    וְיַגֶּד־לָנוּso may he tell usיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godאֶת־הַדֶּרֶךְthe wayאֲשֶׁרwhichנֵלֶךְ־בָּהּwe will go in itוְאֶת־הַדָּבָרand the thingאֲשֶׁרwhichנַעֲשֶׂה׃we may do

    That the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do.

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֲלֵיהֶםto themיִרְמְיָהוּJeremiahהַנָּבִיאthe prophetשָׁמַעְתִּיI have heardהִנְנִיbehold Iמִתְפַּלֵּלprayingאֶל־יְהֹוָהto the LORDאֱלֹהֵיכֶםyour Godכְּדִבְרֵיכֶםaccording to your wordsוְהָיָהand beכׇּל־הַדָּבָרevery wordאֲשֶׁר־יַעֲנֶהwhich will answerיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶתְכֶםyouאַגִּידI tellלָכֶםto youלֹא־אֶמְנַעnot I will withholdמִכֶּםfrom youדָּבָר׃a word

    Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.

    וְהֵמָּהand theyאָמְרוּthey saidאֶל־יִרְמְיָהוּto Jeremiahיְהִיlet beיְהֹוָהthe LORDבָּנוּin usלְעֵדfor a witnessאֱמֶתtruthוְנֶאֱמָןand steadfastאִם־לֹאif notכְּכׇל־הַדָּבָרas all the thingאֲשֶׁרwhichיִשְׁלָחֲךָwill send youיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godאֵלֵינוּunto usכֵּןthusנַעֲשֶׂה׃we will do

    Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the LORD thy God shall send thee to us.

    אִם־טוֹבif goodוְאִם־רָעand if evilבְּקוֹלthe voice ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּour Godאֲשֶׁרwhich(אנו)[אֲנַחְנוּ]weשֹׁלְחִיםare sendingאֹתְךָyouאֵלָיוto himנִשְׁמָעwe will listenלְמַעַןin order thatאֲשֶׁרwhichיִיטַב־לָנוּit shall be well with usכִּיthatנִשְׁמַעwe obeyבְּקוֹלthe voice ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּ׃our God

    Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.

    וַיְהִיand it came to passמִקֵּץat the end ofעֲשֶׂרֶתtenיָמִיםdaysוַיְהִיand it came to passדְבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDאֶל־יִרְמְיָהוּ׃to Jeremiah

    And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah.

    וַיִּקְרָאand calledאֶל־יוֹחָנָןto Johananבֶּן־קָרֵחַson of Kareahוְאֶלandכׇּל־שָׂרֵיall captains ofהַחֲיָלִיםthe armiesאֲשֶׁרwhichאִתּוֹwith himוּלְכׇל־הָעָםand to all the peopleלְמִקָּטֹןfrom the smallוְעַד־גָּדוֹל׃and unto great

    Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces which were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֲלֵיהֶםto themכֹּה־אָמַרthus saysיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelאֲשֶׁרwhichשְׁלַחְתֶּםyou sentאֹתִיmeאֵלָיוto himלְהַפִּילto let fallתְּחִנַּתְכֶםyour supplicationלְפָנָיו׃before him

    And said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him;

  10. 10

    אִם־שׁוֹבif certainlyתֵּשְׁבוּyou shall dwellבָּאָרֶץin the landהַזֹּאתthisוּבָנִיתִיand I will buildאֶתְכֶםyouוְלֹאand notאֶהֱרֹסI will pull downוְנָטַעְתִּיand I will plantאֶתְכֶםyouוְלֹאand notאֶתּוֹשׁI will pluck upכִּיforנִחַמְתִּיI regretאֶל־הָרָעָהto the evilאֲשֶׁרwhichעָשִׂיתִיI have doneלָכֶם׃to you

    If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up: for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you.

    אַל־תִּירְאוּfear notמִפְּנֵיbecause ofמֶלֶךְthe king ofבָּבֶלBabylonאֲשֶׁר־אַתֶּםwhich you areיְרֵאִיםfearedמִפָּנָיוfrom before himאַל־תִּירְאוּfear notמִמֶּנּוּfrom himנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהsays the LORDכִּי־אִתְּכֶםbecause with youאָנִיIלְהוֹשִׁיעַto saveאֶתְכֶםyouוּלְהַצִּילand to deliverאֶתְכֶםyouמִיָּדוֹ׃from his hand

    Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

  12. 12

    וְאֶתֵּןand I shall giveלָכֶםto youרַחֲמִיםmercyוְרִחַםand he will have compassion onאֶתְכֶםyouוְהֵשִׁיבand shall bring backאֶתְכֶםyouאֶל־אַדְמַתְכֶם׃to your land

    And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.

    וְאִם־אֹמְרִיםand if sayingאַתֶּםyouלֹאnotנֵשֵׁבwe will dwellבָּאָרֶץin the landהַזֹּאתthisלְבִלְתִּיto notשְׁמֹעַhearingבְּקוֹלthe voice ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיכֶם׃your God

    But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, neither obey the voice of the LORD your God,

    לֵאמֹרsayingלֹאnotכִּיforאֶרֶץthe land ofמִצְרַיִםEgyptנָבוֹאwe will comeאֲשֶׁרwhichלֹא־נִרְאֶהnot we seeמִלְחָמָהwarוְקוֹלand the sound ofשׁוֹפָרa ram's hornלֹאnotנִשְׁמָעwe will hearוְלַלֶּחֶםand for the breadלֹא־נִרְעָבnot we will be hungryוְשָׁםand thereנֵשֵׁב׃we will dwell

    Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell:

  15. 15

    וְעַתָּהand nowלָכֵןthereforeשִׁמְעוּhearדְבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDשְׁאֵרִיתremnant ofיְהוּדָהJudahכֹּה־אָמַרthus saysיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹתof Hostsאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelאִם־אַתֶּםif youשׂוֹםindeedתְּשִׂמוּןyou will setפְּנֵיכֶםyour facesלָבֹאto comeמִצְרַיִםEgyptוּבָאתֶםand you have comeלָגוּרto sojournשָׁם׃there

    And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;

    וְהָיְתָהand it beהַחֶרֶבthe swordאֲשֶׁרwhichאַתֶּםyouיְרֵאִיםfearedמִמֶּנָּהfrom itשָׁםthereתַּשִּׂיגit will reachאֶתְכֶםyouבְּאֶרֶץin the land ofמִצְרָיִםEgyptוְהָרָעָבand the famineאֲשֶׁר־אַתֶּםwhich you areדֹּאֲגִיםare anxiousמִמֶּנּוּfrom himשָׁםthereיִדְבַּקit will clingאַחֲרֵיכֶםafter youמִצְרַיִםEgyptוְשָׁםand thereתָּמֻתוּ׃you shall die

    Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.

    וְיִהְיוּand they shall beכׇל־הָאֲנָשִׁיםall the menאֲשֶׁר־שָׂמוּwhich setאֶת־פְּנֵיהֶםtheir facesלָבוֹאto comeמִצְרַיִםEgyptלָגוּרto sojournשָׁםthereיָמוּתוּshall dieבַּחֶרֶבwith the swordבָּרָעָבby the famineוּבַדָּבֶרand by the pestilenceוְלֹא־יִהְיֶהand shall have no moreלָהֶםto themשָׂרִידa survivorוּפָלִיטand a fugitiveמִפְּנֵיbecause ofהָרָעָהthe evilאֲשֶׁרwhichאֲנִיIמֵבִיאbringingעֲלֵיהֶם׃upon them

    So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.

    כִּיforכֹהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹתof Hostsאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelכַּאֲשֶׁרasנִתַּךְwas poured outאַפִּיMy-angerוַחֲמָתִיand my rageעַל־יֹשְׁבֵיupon inhabitants ofיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםJerusalemכֵּןthusתִּתַּךְit will pour outחֲמָתִיMy-furyעֲלֵיכֶםover youבְּבֹאֲכֶםwhen you enterמִצְרָיִםEgyptוִהְיִיתֶםand you becomeלְאָלָהinto an oathוּלְשַׁמָּהand into a wasteוְלִקְלָלָהand a curseוּלְחֶרְפָּהand into a reproachוְלֹא־תִרְאוּand not you shall seeעוֹדany moreאֶת־הַמָּקוֹםthe placeהַזֶּה׃this

    For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.

  19. 19

    דִּבֶּרspokeיְהֹוָהthe LORDעֲלֵיכֶםover youשְׁאֵרִיתremnant ofיְהוּדָהJudahאַל־תָּבֹאוּdo not enterמִצְרָיִםEgyptיָדֹעַsurelyתֵּדְעוּyou shall knowכִּי־הַעִידֹתִיbecause I have warnedבָכֶםover youהַיּוֹם׃today

    The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day.

  20. 20

    כִּיbecause[הִתְעֵיתֶם]you have gone astrayבְּנַפְשׁוֹתֵיכֶםin your soulsכִּי־אַתֶּםbecause youשְׁלַחְתֶּםyou sentאֹתִיmeאֶל־יְהֹוָהto the LORDאֱלֹהֵיכֶםyour Godלֵאמֹרsayingהִתְפַּלֵּלprayבַּעֲדֵנוּfor usאֶל־יְהֹוָהto the LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּour Godוּכְכֹלand according to allאֲשֶׁרwhichיֹאמַרsaysיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּour Godכֵּןthusהַגֶּד־לָנוּtell usוְעָשִׂינוּ׃and we will do it

    For ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.

    וָאַגִּדand I have toldלָכֶםto youהַיּוֹםtodayוְלֹאand notשְׁמַעְתֶּםyou have heardבְּקוֹלthe voice ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיכֶםyour Godוּלְכֹלand to everyאֲשֶׁר־שְׁלָחַנִיwhich sent meאֲלֵיכֶם׃unto you

    And now I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God, nor any thing for the which he hath sent me unto you.

  22. 22

    וְעַתָּהand nowיָדֹעַsurelyתֵּדְעוּyou shall knowכִּיthatבַּחֶרֶבwith the swordבָּרָעָבby the famineוּבַדֶּבֶרand by the pestilenceתָּמוּתוּyou will dieבַּמָּקוֹםin the placeאֲשֶׁרwhichחֲפַצְתֶּםyou desiredלָבוֹאto comeלָגוּרto sojournשָׁם׃there

    Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go and to sojourn.
